@@oldguyreactions Very cool company, I think you two compliment each other very well. 4:00 I did this kind of vocalization for 13 years live. You can't track it, like ya'll suggested, you have to actually do it. So, it's important to use the correct techniques that do not harm your vocal cords. If you were doing it in a way that you cannot repeat night after night on tour, you're doing it in an unhealthy way and even your limited use of it in the studio will damage your voice.
it's tricky. I figured it out recently-somewhat difficult with a lower baritone range like mine to hit it the same way! but what you said was just like any kind of vocals. either you're ruining it, or you're making sure to not shred it. in this way, it's more about sliding between the falsetto and the normal range, while staying high in each range. essentially, he's staying up there and controlling voice cracks. or that's how I've managed it. if you'd have any words of wisdom about it love to hear it! peace man.
I'm glad he commented on how in the pocket they are. In my opinion SOAD don't get enough credit for how tight they are...like they're seriously excellent musicians in their genre.
The contrast between the implied "Chill" of the people that just party vs the the ones forced to take part in the conflict represented in the music is another amazing thing about this song :D

System of a down's music kept me from going full republican. Some context on when this song came out - it’s a protest against the Iraq War. “Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time, dancin in the desert blowin up the sunshine.” The B in this BYOB stands for “bombs.”
I don't agree that Serj has to sing in an off-beat style, not locking down with the drums. I'm a percussionist and all I hear is a rhythm change in the drums (kind of syncopated) but Serj is on beat.
