Professional Musician Hears System Of A Down - B Y O B - Old Guy Reaction

- Wow, What a song...System of a Down in BYOB. This professional musician guest comes over and provides some amazing insight into the dynamics of the music itself. Then, just like every song I have reacted to by SOAD we have to discuss the message behind it. What an adrenaline rush in the message. So intense and so right in how they feel. The leaders we have are not leaders anymore. They are cowards who must rule over the people for their own pleasure and fulfilments of their egos and other greedy agendas. There is no more "HONOR". Mostly lies. Do you want to know how I really feel? Lol
Great Song!

"[The drumming] is like a machine gun dude!" That's a clever observation, I never put that together. The instrumentals themselves are meant to match the themes of warfare and violence.
The best part of System of a Down is that moment when you learn the Serj Tankian is a trained professional opera singer
That... actually makes so much sense
I don't know where do you all people get this myths from. It only takes a quick wikipedia research to learn that Serj is self-trained.
Fragment of an interview:
"I didn't consider myself a singer. I started out as a keyboardist and then I was thrown into it and I just started doing it. I never studied music either, and for me it was like the idea of singing was always a matter of making interesting noises as an instrument would."
@@ndujapepperoni3214 “Serj Tankian is an Armenian-American singer, musician, songwriter, record producer, political activist and trained opera singer.” I think he’s right
He’s self trained and not on the level of opera singers. You lied to get likes
Can this guy sit in on all your reactions? Great personality and interaction between you two. And guy is super smart and insightful…I’ve listened to and watched this song so many times but he immediately noticed things I never had.
As always great reaction! Great channel. :)
I liked him a lot too!
BYOB is bring your own bombs
Great reaction! Some people get so into the groove of the song that they miss what it's about.
bring your own bong for the guitarist
@@Jockuptown Me too. Me too. LOL Everybodies going to the party, gonna get stoned...
@@Jockuptown dude that made me laugh so much I almost dropped my pet duck
Yep, that was an anti-Iraq War song. A very rare sentiment in America at the time. I was in college, and even the campus hippies who looked like bearded hobbits had a war-inspired hard on.
@@marcustulliuscicero2676 Everyone did at first, we were all lied to. Now look at the state of the middle east
This video was a protest to George bush administration I believe. It was definitely a political song. They were talking about the Afghanistan war. One of my favs by rhem alone with chop suey
Nah man, they’re Armenian. They talking about the Armenian genocide by Turks
Iraq War*
@@mrdoughboy903 Just because they are Armenian doesn't mean they are just talking about that. Especially not in BYOB
@@Lennert2803 look into it. They represent Armenia more than anything
@@mrdoughboy903 Dude I know SOAD I follow them and I watched and red a lot about the armenian genocide, but they are just mainly doing it. In general they are against the corrupt structured society and government; there for the name System Of A Down. Especially they are against the war crimes that happened from the ottoman empire and the US government back than with president Bush.
This has to be one of the best reactions to this song. It's all about subversion and distracting the people at home with party themes and good vibes while overseas their family and friends die for a cause that doesn't benefit them in any way or form.
Does the other guy has an own channel? He is explaining things so well…
No, it is the first time he ever reacted. He is just a genius who happens to be a cool guy!
@@oldguyreactions Very cool company, I think you two compliment each other very well. You have an intensity and passion that is infectious, and your friend's calm intellectual vibe is a good contrast. In one video we get two sides of the same coin, enjoying a song from two different, but connected angles.Very cool!
Bring him back as often as possible
@@oldguyreactions Id love to see more videos with him. He was great!
the red flags have nothing to do with Brazil and poor people, but it's good that you bring some information even if it's half true
It's been said before here, but this guy is an absolute legend.
He knows what he's talking about.
Man I hate when I sit down and instead of getting food on my tablecloth, all I get is LIES
Wow he had the song figured out in the first few seconds. Impressive.
really cool insights, this guy is a great music communicator
Rick Ruben produced this album. He is basically the best in Rock and Rap.
Rick Rubin even produced a few Slayer albums and everything he did is like a Who is Who of the best artists around!
Its a protest song against the invasion of Iraq. The party is the Iraq War and everyone is coming to have a real good time!
“Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine”
(John Dolmayan is a machine. He is one of the most underrated drummers out there. He is absolutely phenomenal)
I'm glad he commented on how in the pocket they are. In my opinion SOAD don't get enough credit for how tight they are...like they're seriously excellent musicians in their genre.
4:00 I did this kind of vocalization for 13 years live. You can't track it, like ya'll suggested, you have to actually do it. So, it's important to use the correct techniques that do not harm your vocal cords. If you were doing it in a way that you cannot repeat night after night on tour, you're doing it in an unhealthy way and even your limited use of it in the studio will damage your voice.
If you can't track it, how was this song recorded?
@@MisterRagdoll meant that it can't be tracked live. In other words, it's not a playback live, it's actually screamed live.
@@Asherek ah, that makes sense
Wow... great reaction!! You two are awesome together!! Love the chemistry!!
Great reaction thank you! Your joy is contagious and both your analysis are great!
I love it that the two of you give a more mature reaction and insight to this song. It is deep and very important. It is amazing to see how you get this
You two have a great chemistry! Waiting for more reactions!
until watching a couple different reactions to it from musicians, i didn't even notice that the drummer is playing a triplet beat through the verses/bridges. This is why I love channels like this :) Pretty much everyone i know has already heard this song and just about any other I could throw at them, so it's always great to see and hear someone's first impressions. Especially when they have insight into things I've really just taken for granted for the many years I've been listening to a song!
Love the reactions.Bring Your Own Bombs. The song was protesting the Afghanistan war. The lie that was being told from the tablecloth was the lines "everybody come to the party, dancing in the desert, blowing up sunshine" making it sound not like a war but a party. Lying to the poor and sending them, the president never fighting himself.
Your reaction was great. The further it went, the more you both started groovin. I always want this song to just keep going and going. Why couldn't THIS be the song that never ends? Just let it go on and on my friends :)
Awesome reaction!! Love your energy and his comments
SO HAPPY YOURE REACTING TO SOAD! One of my favorite bands for sure !! :))
New to your channel, so far… You and this guy are great together!
This is the odd couple of reaction videos and I LOVE IT!!! Dudes are awesome together; they play off each other well, they show real interest in each other's observations and opinions. Excellent!
Excellent reaction and analysis. Really enjoyed your reaction
The contrast between the implied "Chill" of the people that just party vs the the ones forced to take part in the conflict represented in the music is another amazing thing about this song :D
Found your channel few days ago. I really like your reactions. Soad is the band many of us grew up with.
Great analysis, imediat sub!
Y'all definitely picked one of the best songs, System of a Down is one of my best rock/metal artists of all time. For the past 20 years, lol I'm 28 💯😁
i'm 40😊
Just came across your channel, enjoying your content, so I subbed. Cheers from Virginia
I really like your reactions and loved your friend's insights. He's cool.
Old Guy you’re so positive man
Really and I liked your reaction
SOAD IS THE BEST BAND EVER 🙏🏻
you two have amazing chemistry on camera, good everything!
Great reaction!!! Thank you both
love your reactions guys, i really enjoy this , congrats, i suscribe
Stupendous reaction and explanation of the musical arrangement. My absolute favourite SOAD song and I agree with your comments above. We have no leaders, we have greedy warmongers who have no regard for the poor, we're just cannon fodder for them in oh so many ways. Loud, aggressive, in your face, assaulting your ears and sensibilities and I love it because it tells it like it is. Great reactions guys!
What a amazing reaction! Well done, guys! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Karyta....it was an amazing song. Love it!
alright, I've seen a couple of your vids now - but that giggle after the "bring your own booze" explanation in the intro made me a subscriber :D
great reactions guys!
This bro is a great musician man...
Keep him on the videos
Great song, great guys! Thanks
First time here, I enjoyed this reaction.
Happy New Year!!!
Holiday song for you!
Diana Ankudinova - What a Wonderful World
The reaction bloggers have already called this cover the best performance of this legendary Louis Armstrong song!
You have hardly heard a voice of such rare beauty in your life. Enjoy!
She is called the queen of goosebumps, a unique voice - contralto with polyphonic overtones. Full vocal range - 4 octaves (E3-E7).
Best contralto voice in the world!
She has insane and unique vocals and great stage presence and her performances have over 10 thousand reactions (all of them are collected in my playlists).

LOVING THIS RV, MAN!!!
Great analysis !
Your buddy needs his own channel. Great reaction
finally, someone reacting trying to extract the meaning from the song. You should keep this kind of content coming
Great reaction!
Fantastic insight.
Great reaction
Good analysis of the music and lyrics
The transitions in this song are insane!
Love that reaction 🤣❤️
This video earned my sub!
watching people listen to System, TOOL, and Linkin Park for the 1st time is my favorite youtube rabbit hole to dive down!
System of a down and rage against the machine are my top two fav bands of all time and they have things in common that make them my fav bands.
please bring this good friend to more reactions .. He is Sharp
Damned great!!
The musician is amazing. I love his input on the meaning behind the red flag.
Do some Dead Kennedys reactions with this guy! I will love to hear the analysis! Will be top!
Nice Live!
Damn, your friend is smart. I feel like i learned a lot here so like and sub xD
System of a down's music kept me from going full republican. I was raised in a very liberal appilachian household, i became apart of the American military industrial complex, i think allot of what most Americans believe is that war isn't justifiable in most cases. left or right, we can all agree that if we can keep our children from dieing for a war without principles or cause, we should. Nobody wants war. I was indoctrinated from 9/11, i grew up seeing the narrative. Today i stand in the middle politically. Serj's song Empty Walls sums up allot for us veterans.
I wish more people were thinkers like yourself. We'd all be better off as a society. Stay in the middle, it's where we're supposed to be.
not only that but everything around you is what it is to manipulate you so the corporations can make a profit off of you. just because the ceos and shareholders are human doesn’t mean they will treat you as a human.
Favorite song from SOAD, definitely
Hi, thanks for the video. I would like to see your reaction to the wonderful singer Diana Ankudinova. She is still young, but her performances amaze people from all over the world.
Cool dudes. Would love to see your thoughts on Bonethugs.
Serge is traind in the arts of the Opera, thats why he has lot of control in his music.
serj just sayin to be a bit annoyn soz mate
I always loved the end of the song, they end SOOOO suddenly.
Check "Empty Walls" from Serj Tankian (the lead singer)
It has a great message like this one.
Bring your own bombs
to the party in the desert
to blow up the sunshine.
This song came up during the second iraq war.
These 2 are great Go
I'm half way through this video and i'm impressed by your mate! Basicly spot on (i know i probably made spelling errors)
goddamn, solid fucking breakdown my guys.
got a 'scribe outta me
The musician's input actually made sense to an idiot like me.
You guys remind me of a couple of guys I used to hang out with when I was in the 257th Army band in Washington D.C. Fun times.
Sounds fun Justin....I appreciate you man!
Hey I would love to see you guys listen to primus. Or any les claypool. Would love to hear your insight into that!
Yes he can sing like that bcs that his voice he just have crazy range of voice and that don't hurt him or bother him like us when we try to imitate that voice like opera singers!
Perfect shirt for this reaction lol
This is a fun and crazy song. Recommend Opeth. Reverie / Harlequin Forest. Opeth are groovy but also have these crazy transitions
Serj is classically trained.
Great shirt for for the song.
The drums in this song are INSANE.
I've watched too many reaction videos I guess. Not too impressed with most of them, unfortunately. But i'll say this: the guy on the left is welcome to my house anytime, any way, for all the substances he wants to consume. what a breath of fresh air. thanks for making this.
Happy New Year) Please could you react to the amazing performance of young vocalist Diana Ankudinova with a cover - What a Wonderful World - Диана Анкудинова и Брендон Стоун с новогодним поздравлением.- (this video is from her official channel)
More SOAD!
You are great, you not only hear the music but listen and have something to say because you question what you heard, saw and felt.
Infant Annihilator - Cuntcrusher - Drum Playthrough is also worth checking out.
Sorry for the bad English, I'm from Germany, Greetings from here.
Thank you Florian, I appreciate you!
i am a hip-hop head but this song is golden love it
i love how hype this dude is on the right
Your guest is a technically sound musician so hard to find these days
Please tell me this man has his own reaction channel
He doesn't...I have been trying to get him back for more. He is super busy.
Hey I remember when I "Danced in the Desert", though I was communication so I didn't "Blow Up the Sunshine"...fuck war 😔
Amazing how he got so much information out of hearing just a few second of the song.
Happy different. Friends. Hang out. Made me tear
great reaction! i really recommend to you to react to Spiders too, such a great song!
this guy is something else...
WE NEED A JINJER- “Pisces” (Live Session) REACTION! 🤘🏼
On the screams - if it hurts, you’re doing it wrong. It Just takes a lot of training.
