This song was just recently voted the greatest guitar riff of all time. Zeppelin was more than just a band, they were on a level that nobody else could ever touch.
Just think that Robert Plant was just 19 when they recorded this.

Yeah, this song was naughty. We all know what it was about, but the band had 4 of the greatest you'll ever hear. They were so versatile, and so talented, it's almost impossible to even define them. Hope you enjoy discovering them
The sound of the three main instruments in volume, tone, and relation to each other is absolutely exquisite. The sound is so thick and chunky, yet clearly audible it’s amazing.

When this song came out it was a whole new sound in music.
The awesome thing about this song is that before it was released there was nothing else on the planet that sounded like this. Led Zeppelin didn't invent hard rock, but they did pioneer this particular sound. This song was literally the prototype of heavy metal to come. Listen to the song "Enter Sandman" by Metallica (1991) (also a great song to react to) and feel the influence: the combination of the rhythm guitar, bass and kick drum to create a pounding, repetitive groove that just makes you want to get down,.the relentless energy that hits you like a locomotive. Released on Led Zeppelin's 2nd album in 1969, yet it sounds just as fresh today.

By age sixteen I found my friends, a quart of beer, black light posters, Led Zeppelin associations depressing. Over years of hearing early country blues - 1920s - 30s - I rediscovered ‘Zep’. Guitarist Jimmie Page knows what he is doing. If you want blatant, sexy lyrics, hear “The Lemon Song”. And “Moby Dick” just because….

In the 1960's and 1970's when Zeppelin was writing lyrics the terms: "Back door man" and "Going down slow" did NOT mean what they mean today. Back door man meant that the boyfriend used the back door of the house not any other 'back door'. But yes this is one of the best songs ever done. Zeppelin has about 30 of those. Try "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Battle of Evermore" Enjoy.

Zeppelin broke up upon Bonham's death although the remaining three continue to perform independently.
Far and away the most influential rock group ever. All members are widely considered the best in their respective talents. They were basically the soundtrack of my youth in the 70's & 80's.
I recommend "Ten years gone", it's one of my favorite.
Pausing it right in the middle of a guitar solo like that is like coitus interruptus. It's something reactors do that drives listeners nuts.
If someone hasn't already told you, the strange sound you heard in ( hole lot of love) was gitarest playing gitar with a violin bow..

I was in college in the early 80s with long wavy hair half way down my back. Now I am retired and back to the long wavy hair. It’s just gray now.

I like how she slowly warmed to the tune, and by the end was a convert...Lots of great things about this tune, but one aspect of it that I think is underrated is its long fade out, after Plant does his thing with the "Love" call (which in concert almost always went from low to high, not high to low like in this studio version). It's a great fade, down to the last scream just at the end....

They symbolized the “drugs, sex, and Rock and Roll” culture of the 60’s-70’s. Definitely they were part of the Woodstock culture so prevalent of the time.
