The best reaction to this song I've ever seen. You get it. The shocking thing is that this was all over the radio in '70's. They just pretended it was a love song. I was 11 when this came out, and I knew what it was about.💗
Wow! Great reaction. I was laughing my head off. Can you imagine that this song is now 53 years old! Still surprising people after all these years. You can't beat Zep.
I was too young and couldn't speak english yet. But I liked the song so much, so I asked my first english teacher and he was a really cool guy. He said: I can't translate that for you, but here you have the lyrics and an up-to-date dictionary - make up your own mind. Thank you so much Mr. Bartels you are my favorite teacher ever. Many greets @all from hamburg (germany)
You made me laugh! Because you got it right from the beginning before getting to the lyrics . Which while they may not be explicit make it very clear what this song is about . . It's hilarious Thank you !
I was a young man when this song was new. I was told by two maybe three female friends the tempo of the song was perfect for .... Which fits your reaction 50 years later. Backdoor man is an old blues term for the lover who exits the house though the back door when the husband arrives home. In one song Zeppelin singer Robert Plant laments he opens his front door and hears his back door slam. The live version of that song, Since I've Been Loving You from 1973 is a must for you.
@@giffysstiffy887 When you grow up you might understand that snickering school boy interpretations are invariably wrong. A Wankel rotary engine is a car engine, not an appliance on a school boy's wish list.
When this came out it was played on what was called "high rotation". This meant it was heard once at least every ninety minutes on the radio. And over that summer I know I never got sick of it.
Ah, Led Zep. Each of these guys were born gifted and, thankfully, found each other to form the greatest rock band to ever grace the earth. "Whole Lotta Love" was recorded and dropped in 1969 (album 2) when these guys were still very young adults. Robert Plant - singer (occasionally guitar and harmonica) - age 20 when this was recorded Jimmy Page - lead guitar (and producer) - age 24 John Paul Jones - bass, keys (and other instruments) - age 22 John Bonham - percussionist - age 20 Enjoyed your reaction and hope you take a real dive into LZ. You won't be disappointed. :) Edit: I won't recommend a "next song" because any of them are worth a listen. I will recommend, however, that you start at the beginning with album 1, track 1 and just keep going.
As the young fellas say today Robert is spitin' game and ready to prove it. No mixing of words, just pure in your face sexuality. btw dear, you're blushing! 🤣
@@inbedwithmusic2130 LOL. Actually, the term "back-door man" refers to the idea of a man with whom a woman is cheating on her husband. The husband comes home and "back-door man" has to sneak out the back door. =

Fair play to you. I have watched/listened to numerous 'first' reactions to this song and noone except you seems to get it. To me it's been as clear as day since 1969 what the song is about and I cannot believe how many people don't see it.
Hi Jess! Another fun reaction! I'm always surprised when someone is actually getting to hear this for the first time. While we know rock music has a direct line from blues music, Zeppelin wasn't shy about straight-up borrowing lyrics from blues songs. Someone else already explained the old meaning of the term "back door man". Blues legend Howlin' Wolf had a song called "Back Door Man", among other songs. The Doors did a cover of it, too. You can pick just about any Zeppelin song and not go wrong. "When the Levee Breaks", "Thank You", "Ramble On", "Achilles Last Stand", I can go on.
Now that reaction was fun! Greetings from Canada. But to GET Led Zep, you have to see them live. And a good one to see the Blues origins taken to swag max levels is "Since I've Been Loving You " Live MSG, NYC, 1973. Enjoy. Peace, love and bellbottoms.
I have watched many reactions to this song and you my dear were the first I have seen to react to the songs "meaning" properly. I am now 63 and I heard this for the first well over 50 years ago...still my favorite Zeppelin song
I was in fourth grade in 1969 and my teacher brought this album to school so we could listen during art class. This was her favorite tune on the album, but I'm sure she didn't realize the implications. None of the kids did, of course. But this was my intro to Led Zeppelin and I've been a huge fan ever since. "Bring it on Home" quickly became my favorite tune, but this album is chock full of amazing tunes.
You're reaction was great! But the surprised look on your face as you listened to it more was an even better reaction. lol You were talkinq about the echo's. Did you notice in the one part where Robert Plant was solo singing that the echo came before he sang the line. How cool was that! Being a musician and songwriter myself, one of the bands that I played in, this was one of the Led Zeppelin songs that we used to play.

Maybe the most primal guitar riff in all of rock, right here. Awesome rhythm, drumming, vocals and sound effects. Took a Willie Dixon song with extra lyrics to the next level, and then some.
