At 3:14 you are not saving the synth, you are saving the project. You can tell right away as the name does not update to your custom one but stays as a generic “173” name… To save a synth the combination is “save” + “synth”, not just “save”.

Great. The more tips out there, the better for everyone 😀 whilst I’ve been concentrating purely on iOS music, I’m working on some hardware stuff (deluge, SP404 MKII, op-1 etc). Subbed. Cheers. Lee

Would you sample synth sounds that already have lots of effects on them? Or remove the effects before sampling?

I am not the guy in the video but my recommendation would say it depends on what you are going to use it for. A "wet" mix, one with the effects would be great if you want to capture the "vibe" of the entire synth, for example, you dialed in a solid reverb, bang on delay, some mod effects, and are getting a solid vibe. A wet mix is also useful on devices that have limitations say for example a tracker.
A "dry" mix, one without the effects, would be useful if you want to use the same synth between multiple tracks in a set. For example, you have two tracks one is a chill vibe the next is a hype. For the chill track, you have a low pass cuttoff, long reverb release and delay, slow attack. You may want to keep the synth between the two tracks so to transition into your next track, you increase cutoff, reduce reverb, decrease attack. The easiest way would be to use a dry version of your synth so you can adjust those things on the fly and slowly transition into one version from the other.
So in summary, if you plan on using the essence of the synth for multiple purposes and you don't know what that purpose will be, use a dry sample. If you want to keep the vibe and use the sample as the underlying vibe of a track or set of tracks in a set, then use a wet mix.
