In this video I'm demonstrating a different approach to recording acoustic instruments with the built-in Deluge microphone, and layering and combining them with electronic sounds and samples.

The best thing I've learned as a guitarist using the deluge is that the default keyboard mode is exactly the same layout as the top four strings on a guitar. Five half step distance between each row/string.
This really helps playing chords and improvising. Instant skill transfer.

A lil preface - the Wall of Sound is a technique by the crazy killer guy (Phil Spector) where a large ensemble of instruments play the same passage, but add enough variety so that when it comes to post-production.... they all blend together to create an atmosphere indistinguishable from the other.

Nice vid! I argue with my neighbor -- he has a Deluge and I am strictly DAW-based. Seeing this I just see how much more fiddling is necessary on a hardware unit to do relatively basic tasks that are much more straightforward in a DAW. I use Renoise which has crazy fast keyboard shortcuts to do much of what you did here. But hey, different strokes. The end result sounds great!
I use both. A DAW is obviously way more fully featured and convenient, but there's something special about making music without computers and screens too. Especially when it's just for fun!

Lol yeah his story is insane, but it's such a great recording trick. Apparently, he used to combine several different instruments and mix them together, too, which would create this larger-than-life sound. Thanks for watching!
Finally a video that shows a sequencer synth being used for guitar based tune as 99.9% of everything else on UA-cam is for techno dance.
Anyway, it's a real sweet tune and a great step by step video. I don't have a Deluge but after this vid I think I may get one 😊😊😊😊

I've owned this thing for 2 years, watched many sampling videos, read manual and never realized that double tapping the cut off marker for a sample deleted the extra measure(still not sure it deletes it from memory.) Thank you. Very cool tips, trucks and song

@@simon_jakobsson I saw your drum set in the background. I just saw a video where someone took Roland drum triggers to trigger the Deluge and got really realistic sounding drums out of it.

I love the guitar and drums, I wish I could play the guitar now, soooooo nice!! I would like to add a song to that. I love that simple style, super!! Love the drums sound too, samples??I liked the more simple version of the song in the beginning a lot, sometimes we want to add too much but I guess I like simple tunes and a nice voice across it all. Its a super nice song though

I will probably never be able to buy a Deluge, and my guitar playing is terrible, but you presented this all so neatly that I stil subcribed for more.
Lol thanks man! As for the guitar playing, there's only one thing that makes us better, and it's not even talent - it's dedicated practice. Fingers crossed you'll be able to find a Deluge one day, it's a fun machine. There are however a bunch of free apps and software that does just about every aspect of it as well if not better :)
@@simon_jakobsson I do use Reaper with VST's and have 2 hardware synthesizers but it feels like the Deluge would add something, namely being away from my desk and still work on ideas. And yes, practice is important, I tried it lots of times in my life but always give up too soon. Thanks for your reply.
If you play the guitar, practice a lot, you will never ever regret it, you will just love it more and more...
@@simon_jakobsson Any suggested apps or software? Talking about practice, I love to have something portable as it means I will practice a lot more, I love to sit at a cafe for hours and create.
Hey Simon, nice tutorial 🙌 I‘m playing guitar + Model:Samples at the Moment but for the future I hope to have an additional machine to extend my palette. Espacially the guitar line-input option seems very usable for me. Have you tried I with something like an Strymon Idridium or Helix?
Thanks! I haven't tried those particular pedals, but I've tried it with others (and it has worked great). The Deluge's line in and realtime input processing and added effects are great, I'm a big fan :)

@@Maxmachtmusik I have a Digitakt and I used to have an MPC1000 (an older, but good model). Deluge is my favorite by far and the Digitakt is mostly collecting dust. I really loved the Digitakt, too, but it's much more loop-focussed, whereas the Deluge is more versatile and can more easily be used for full songs. You can make excellent music with either of them, but I just have a big crush on my Deluge, I really love that machine (hence all these videos lol).

i stuck between this and the force. you think the deluge could be used for recording full songs and arranging parts? (say i record a verse, chorus, etc separately). i work in IT and want to make demos away from the computer to give my eyes a break. this has been years long struggle for me. once i have arrangement and demo then i'd like to take it into a daw (i dont care if i need to re-record)
Yes, you definitely can do that. Getting a break from screens is pretty much why got into the Deluge too. I have made a ton of videos where I use it for bigger arrangements, too, so have a look around :)
I love the videos! Though, getting white light blasted by the subtle screens is no fun.

I think it was easier to simply use the overdubbing feature. Sets the length of the consecutive clips automatically and you can layer in no time.
