And he is reason why all metalheads think extreme metal drummers are bashers. Just look how high he has to lift sticks to get any power at 200 bpm.
When they then see extreme metal drummer doing 240+ bpm most metalheads will say "that's just electric kit, no power required".

No disrespect to Jeff (God rest his soul) but Dave was the real talent of the band. Dave is one of the best drummers there is which is a lot more than I can say for Tom when it comes to singing and bass or Kerry when it comes to guitar. Tom and Kerry made a huge mistake fucking over Dave.

there are 100bpm, 220 bpm, and there's The Lombardo bpm. he just buries that click like there's no mañana
the feel on the fills (lol) ... phenomenal ... there's so much groove in what he does despite being so aggressive at the same time ... one of a kind

Phil Pearson Dave helped popularize double bass drumming, which influenced so many thrash and death metal bands. Just as Eddie Van Halen helped popularized two handed tapping which doesn't necessarily say that he invented it, it was Steve Hackett of Genesis who invented it.
so, in my opinion Dave is definitely the godfather of the double bass drumming

I've done my Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath, but never been finished with Slayer since Junior High...puuuufff what a cramps business you've got there Dave

Dave is not this fancy drummer. What makes dave so great is he so great with the basics just straight punishing drumming
The funny part is slayer did not record to a click most of the time. The producer Rick Rubin prefers not to use one. I get hes doing it as a demonstration but most of their music was free of the click. Hes a great player but I always found him to be more of a punk rock guy than pure metal. Take his feet out of the equation and listen to what he does with his hands and it's very similar to punk rock of the early seventies and eighties... No disrespect so all you Dave lovers.. calm down...lol!!!
