Lars half wrote all these tunes - and I don't mean with the drums, he literally has musical ideas and tells the rest what to play for a significant part of all of their shit. Metallica wouldn't be half the band without him.

There's supposed to be a 7/8 bar there on purpose. Even on the album version it sounds messed up if you see that missing 1/8 as a mistake but they do it on purpose to make it feel extra rushed and trashy. In the studio they had all the time to make that sound how they want, so the 7/8 there is what it's supposed to be. Things like that make Metallica's drum controversial. And at the ending of this video the band isn't even tight anymore with Dave's drumming, I think it's because normally Hetfield is more like the timekeeper and Lars follows his rhythm guitar while Dave tries to take the lead and the band fails to play in sync at some parts because of it. Imo this is not a better version of the song and Lars won this battle.
