That drum kit is gonna think about Dave everytime Lars plays it.
LMAO!
😅😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
LOL!
daymmm that's gonna leave a scar
It's a scientific fact that Dave Lombardo's drumming makes everything 812% better. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Fake news! No need to exaggerate, its 666%...
101% BETTER ...
@@oliverarceo6137 i don't think its even possible to go over 100%. Im going to ask my teacher.
I agree completely
I believe it's 813 actually
Kirk Hammett was under so much pressure from Lombardo being there that he NAILED THE SOLO DEAD ACCURATE ☠️ 😂
Lol. He didn't though. I mean, it was a solid solo, but parts of it were nothing like the original. He clearly improvised a few times.
Right from the moment i read the video title I knew the three of them were going to be pushed to get his pace😂 indeed
Not even close to accurate. He bullshitted a lot of it.
... Whether Kirk played it accurately or not who are we to complaint. That's his music..... It's upto him to play it exactly ....or to improvise it...
Not note by note, but he was more spot-on than usual.
4:38 It was at this moment James realizes he now has the rhythm section he's always wanted.
yeah it really goes into hyperspace there
YES thank you. I tell people/newer fans that gush over Lars and dogpile me when I say Lars isn’t good to go watch this from a guy who doesn’t even know the song lmao.
Pero hetfield y hammett van fuera de tiempo
the fucking laugh he does just makes it even clearer how much he loved it lol
Too fast for het, dave came to do the 80s version
The fact that Dave isn't fully aware of the breaks and timings somehow makes it more impressive - because it shows he really did wing it with no time to prepare. Even when he gets them wrong his ability to recover is inhuman. Absolute legend.
Lol everyone knows Battery
Mind you Dave is used to playing very fast tempos in the song with Slayer .
@@dog5696 knowing the song from listening isn’t the same as knowing the song from playing it.
@@MDK2_Radio No
Yeah, they do it different live....
Hearing Dave ultra confident double bass work on that was really something
🙏
По русскому
As a drummer his double bass kick pedal work has always been legend a percussion god🤘🤘
THAT BOY BAD
Lombardo is a master of doubble bass. Lars is not exercise doubble bass
You know Robert Trujillo was loving it. He's playing with Metallica and a member of Slayer. Dude must of been pumped!
They both play together in Infectious Groove anyway
Suicidal Tendencies - Punk!
@@Ryu_AkeRecently? Cuz Dave isn't the original drummer for I.G.
@@leopardcubpupkryky6940 recently
@@leopardcubpupkryky6940But he did get to play for Suicidal Tendencies though
Dave is a fucking machine. That double tapping at 4:38 was incredible. Listening to that and imagining James working out how to tell Lars he's fired
and then it gallops away like it's never done before
Dave brings a rickety wooden rollercoaster on a terrifying descent into hell kind of vibe to it
Sounds like it could be a buildup in a trance track
Battery with Dave Lombardo sounds much brutal!!!
Sound Like a true Drummer
Nailed
I love that Dave sits in for another band and then completely drives the tempo. "This song is mine now and it wasn't fast enough."
He ran away from the rhythm section at the end.
Crap, that was some of the best Metallica I’ve heard. Dave’s approach to drumming is natural and proficient. Man, that double-kick sounds even more ferocious on Metallica.
Sounds generic boring
@@dog5696 You repeating the same comment over and over again is boring.
@@yiannismargaritis3131 generic thrash drumming. No wonder every slayer album sounds the same
@@dog5696 like all trash metal albums
Yeah man, double bass was really accurate
That driving energy of Lombardo is just wild. The main beat comes so naturally.
Yep. Normally Hetfied is driving the tunes and Lars is meandering around them. Sometimes fast sometimes slow sometimes I. The pocket. This shows how Lombardo was driving Hetfields tempo…early on there is a really crisp slightly ahead of time cymbal hit that demonstrates this perfectly. The drumming at the end is all perfectly consistent in its timing despite all hell being unleashed on that kit. It’s Lars gig but you can’t deny they sound more metal with Lombardo
"If only I could play with this guy forever..." (Trujillo)
It's just back to Suicidal tendencies 😬
@@sgrul1 so true!
If only they had the privilege of playing with Robert Trujillo for the rest of their lives...
It's not every day you get a bassist capable of...oh, I don't know...
Everything????!!!!
didnt he play w infectious grooves only? ah no, hes on lights camera plus :)
+ James
I was there that night. It took Metallica to a whole new level for me with Dave on the drums, every hit of that snare felt like I was on the receiving end of a prime Mike Tyson right hand to the chest.
Lombardo might be the cleanest drummer ever. The dude does not miss, zero mistakes even live.
He just forgot to stop but you are true
@@Schnumetaldead You can't stop a wild horse like you want...
@@vjulien68 exactly !
Back in the day, he would come into a session to do his live recordings for Slayer, play the entire album, no warm ups no practice and that was it, he did this over and over again for the albums, most famously south of heaven. 1 and done, the man is a drumming legend.
Zero mistakes? There were quite a lot of mistakes in this performance
3:40 gives me chills!
We were all waiting for it and it did not disappoint
У меня тоже!👍😃
and 4:35 Lars is thinking "WTF?" 🤣
What the fuck🤣
Question, how did this happen and how long did they keep Lars tied up
So *that's* what Metallica sounds like live when the drums are in time!
They even aren't you're just bias. Maybe they had some kind of agreement with Dave before that don't get too technical, otherwise Lars don't like.
@@mikek1274 Shite take. Nah, like most metal musicians, they are Metallica fans in one form or another. I'm sure Dave knew the song, but you're givin the man a few hours notice to play a legendary song all while he has his own set list to think of. All the drummers killed it that day, but just think what these songs could/would sound like if Lars actually gave a shit about bein a better drummer.
yea and it didn't even sound good 💀😂
Now we see that James ve got somerimes problem when the drums alk time on tempo and when he is a little in not time Rio early or After he have to try plays to bee on time not that Lars that they Wach other plays wrong and im time on feeling
kkkkkkkk!
Daves feel & power are second to none. Plus he can actually keep a tempo
LOL
4:35 the heaviest moment ever caught on tape
The sound of this tune with Lombardo is unreal and spectacular
If youre deaf then yeah..his fills were all over the place
@@ilyeshmusiclol troll
@@heresjohnny999 why troll ? It's reality
@@ilyeshmusic Lombardo had no time to prepare for this since Lars was rushed to hospital. Even so it's spectacular and you are a troll. Bye bye now
@@heresjohnny999 spectacular if you're deaf maybe
Super sick to hear them play it at late 80s speed again. Such a sick performance!
Agree, wheres the groove…
With Dave on the skins, even Kirk had to solo properly. If only James's voice was like it was in the old days. Perfect!
His voice is better wtf are you saying lmao
@@chrisbenj3819 san diego 92 and ofc seattle…
Lol bro...Dave Lombardo is very accustom to playing behind ultra shitty solos...you can't hate Kirk's leads in defense of slayers...slayers leads are trash lol
@@galsaksida8977 he means james sounds better today than how he sounded in 2004
No. I dont Like James voice anymore... His voice was best Till the late 80'...@@chrisbenj3819
James's smile is playing Battery at Album tempo for the first time in 30 years.
Relentless attack from Lombardo, really keeping the band on its toes. That double kick-drum is just next level, and yet it feels like he's barely pushing himself...Monster!
It's probably a warm up for Dave, tbh. Lots of metal bands consider Metallica to be classic rock at this point.
De hecho apura a todos! Van corriendo tras el , Trujillo parace que se hacer a a calmarlo un poco😂
I would like to see Lars trying to play Slayer's "Silent Scream"... 😄😄😄😄
He’s legs would fall off 😂
@@robertwalker3357 stop acting like Lars can't play fast or has never played fast yall must not have ever seen their 80s gigs.
Lars is lower then lombardos skid marked jock strap
Ja
I would not 😅
Dave wants Metallica to become even more metal.
In this video - they have the right drummer for it.
No
That would be their best move, right now. But James has to go back to vocal school and ditch that same ole "yeah-yeah"; vocals.
@@danieltucker8837 you mean dave mustaine needs vocal lessons
He was definitely going to fast for them but I think it made it sound better. They're all pros so the adjusted
I bet every member at this point in time said to themselves: dam I wish Dave was our guy full time behind the kit!!!!! You could tell they all really enjoyed the fullness Dave brings with his drumming style!!!!
Nope
Look how powerful the drums sound. You can easily feel the strength, the agression and the fullness of the drums because a real drummer is on the kit.
Different but Lars IS METALLICA. No Lars , no Metallica.
very true. lars ain't no drummer. he just happened to play drums for metallica but a drummer he is not. that being said, his clumsy drumlines somehow fitted very well with james' riffing
Sounds generic. Pass
K let's get this right I can understand Cliff and Jason sitting this one out but there is no excuse for Lars to not be there wtf is going on here!? Don't get me wrong... Dave sounded good on what looked to be Lars's set? Or did Dave bring his own? 2nd ly ... what happened to James's voice!? Omg! That singer can actually carry a good note James must have been lip syncing that's not what Metallica is supposed to sound like the Metallica I remember had some excellently distorted bass guitar even some slap going on from a complete genius in Cliff Burton Jason was an entirely different animal but one of the best ever in my opinion nuff said there James's singin is something totally different than what I grew up to and I'm not sure I like it why man...why did you do it?!
He's a wannabe.
Dave Lombardo always gives powerpacked performances. Every hot is great and knocks the audience. He completely changed the environment when he played the drums.
Lars' kit really took a beating that night. lol
Dave Lombardo.. my favorite drummer 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Dave winged that but still completely kicked its ass..those double kicks were so powerful and accurate..made the whole song sound way better!
Lombardo is a legend. Respect!
This is totally the right song to do with Dave on Drums.
Dyers Eve would have been more insane
The laugh at 4.42 is acknowledgement of real insane drumming.
Yes! I felt that too
I love Dave's take. I felt he made it hard for them to keep up!
Lars is experiencing his own music being played right.
Best drummer Metallica ever had !!!!
Yep
Joey was pretty cool too.
Big improvement on this song
i agree cuz Lombardo can make better everything with his inhuman style@@albertoroberto7705
I've seen this video everyday for the past month and I don't get tired of watching it...Dave gave this song life....
3:49 - incredible speed and power. Dave is a real beast!
Best Metallica drumming ever.
Dave is awesome but look at the small kit that Dave’s playing he’s playing Lars setup the drums aren’t set up for Dave
@@brianpatrickreddington1750 And still sounding like Dave Lombardo !!!!
yeah, double bass and accents,,,, wow
Joey jordison was by far the best one!
@@raminbohlouli1969 no. They are two different drummers with different styles. To be honest Jordison did a bit of "overplaying", Lombardo did exactly what was needed to play the song.
Such a technical drummer. There is a consistency in his playing that is really hard to define. It's especially notourious here where one is used to Lars' more raucous approach.
He simply put the effort to understand music.
Easy to define. In time.
The way Lars came to the table with a more punk rock approach to thrash drumming is what helped differentiate Metallica from the others.
He absolutely epically killed it. Dave is a beast
Just, wow. That’s proper drumming, as per other comments, you don’t realise what’s missing until it’s there
Lombardo : Patrimonio Metalero de la Humanidad.
Confirmo
Dave is really pushing the band hard sounds so much better
When that double bass kicked in James looked back at Dave like, "it's gonna be like that huh?"
It's such a joy seeing the rest of the band struggling to keep up with Dave : D
This is a much better version of this performance than other videos I’ve seen - you can see more of Dave. I can’t stop watching it. Thanks for uploading!
Dave getting things properly done! That double bass it's just obscene 😂 the day complete Metallica struggled to keep up
Same thought, they weren't used to this, I recall back when this happened it was like an inevitable life line for the band at that time cuz they were fucking baaaaad in the early aughts, like shitty bad,
The double bass is what Metallica would sound with a trully competent drummer: EVEN MORE LEGENDARY.
Now that's what I call a recharged battery! 😁
Metallica sounded metal again with Lombardo
This was awesome!
I like the old Metallica better
The song helped a bit lol
Yeah because dave adds the spark metallica needs.
...and then James' shitty vocals kicked in!!
With Dave Lombardo one can always expect really tight drumming. Those double bass drum parts gave me f'n goose bumps!! Hell yeah!!
I'm not even particularly a metal fan, a Metallica fan or a Slayer fan, but this is absolutely insane. Lombardo is incredible. It's like a steam train at full power. 4.35 is truly mental.
Go listen to Pink Floyd then
I was honored back in 2022 at Masters of Rock in Czechia. I witnessed Dave Lombardo's live performance with Exodus and was blown away instantly. Poor Lars
It was fascinating to watch the communication between Rob and Dave and also Dave looking at James for the cue to go into the solo part.
Near the end, it sounded like James was having trouble keeping up with Dave. Such a great performance overall.
it was kirk hehe :D, he is in right ear, in left is james and theres everything alright ofc, lol now i realized that james looks like hes not picking that palmuted 0 between powerchords
Having trouble keeping up LOL.
You mean Lombardo messed it up.
@@brettelder8023 it sounds weird cuz its off beat, maybe u dont know, maybe u know idk hehe
@@danielvician6339 he doesn't. He still does it but I think he made a smart choice here and skip it. Kirk was trying to play that notes in between but the speed was brutal. Specially if you haven't played like that in a while
Dave is by far the goat drummer of metal EVER!!!!!!
The bass line definition is stratospheric. Rob TRUJILLO you're a f***ing monster of a bass player man. Mean that with utmost respect though. Downright crazy
And when we think that Dave never took drum lessons and it s a self thought drummer .....the word genius is the most appropriate 🤟👍🤟👍🤟👍🤟❤❤❤
Como que no tomo clases?, el fue pupilo de Gene Hoglan
@@elguaperas4639 he took lessons but for a very short period of time ....
The self taught as always the best
I never saw Rob Trujillo headband so fast in my life, jeez...
Credit to Lars for writing the music and getting the band going and all that but this is another level in terms of live performance, which is nothing to be ashamed of.
I've been drinking this evening, and my liver performance right now is off the charts.
Yes, truly, I think I hear a beep.
Yep. No Metallica without Lars, but they would sound amazing live with a more powerful and consistent drummer. It's just a fact. Lars is legendary, but he's never been the tightest.
@@gringochucha this wasn’t tight at all, what?
@@Ibanez527 Of course this wasn't tight. I don't know if they even rehearsed and Dave was playing too fast for the rest of the band. Who said this was tight? Read my comment, dude.
Dave brought metallica back to the way they sounded back then, and then some. Dave is a beast of a drummer.
No Words Man... The Great Dave
I once saw James drum for Metallica back in September 1989. Am I Evil? was the song. Lars was singing, Kirk was playing bass, and Jason was guitarist. This was at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater.
Sin duda, Dave está en otro nivel , mucha pieza, mucho baterista el grande Lombardo ¡!!!!!
As a drummer myself,Dave Lombardo is the best double bass kick pedal genius and his technical work with Tom toms and cymbals is a absolutely joy to watch an absolute icon with any metal band👍👍🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Never ceases to bring a tear to my eye this video, pure joy with Dave behind the kit!
Dave Lombardo=genius. And one of Metallica's best songs
it's remarkable, every single hit on these drums sounds more powerful than with Lars playing

Esa velocidad del doble bombo es brutal..!!!🔥🔥🤟🏼, Dave un maestro, el mejor baterista, el padrino del doble bombo 🔥🔥👌🏻🇨🇱
Id love to hear a clear live version with dave when they perform Dyers Eve
That's the sound of a band struggling to keep up. Dave's roasting them here....
Yeah needed lars. This was boring
James should be singing whole song like he sings the word Battery. Lombardo Rulz.🤘🤘🤘
Lombardo es una bestia tocando! Que ejecución tan perfecta y thrashera se aventó 🤘🎸 Brutal versión de Battery! Yeah, gracias Dave 😎
They have never sounded that tight. The feeling when the whole band is locked in together is a beautiful thing.
I'm speechless, Lombardo killed it. Fuck yeah!
Suena potente , Gracias Dave.
Lars , go home
Back to tennis for lars 😂
Uma das músicas que fizeram eu me apaixonar eternamente pelo metal 🖤
That was some POWERFUL drumming!
Hetfield is up there with the best rhythm guitarists on the planet. This had to feel amazing with Dave on drums. For years people have said imagine Metallica with Lombardo on drums.
Ehhh
Imagine Metallica with Lombardo on drums/Imagine Megadeth with Hetfield on vocals.
It almost happened in 86 apparently. The rest of the band wanted to fire Lars but when cliff died it took that possibility out of the equation.
@@JayMayne-zo1qh Where did you read or hear this?

To all those in the crowd who had their minds blown from witnessing this, we salute you. There were no survivors... No way in hell Lars could have gone on after that lol.. \m/
Dave certainly blew us all away. However, Joey really stole the show. I remember having to wait well over an hour for the show to start and thinking we could of caught Slayer playing an earlier slot in the Snickers tent. Also, Ulrich’s drum tech done Fade to Black but was a bit out of his depth. I can’t Imagine having to play in front of 80,000 pissed of Metallica fans so props to the guy for giving a go! But Joey was the man!
No, a member of Slayer smashing a Metallica track
Lombardo has a swing in his playing thats always beautifull and his feel is unique. So much better than Lars..
Metallica finally got a good drummer !!
Finally a drummer with tempo and chops playing this live...
Dave is the greatest metal drummer everrrrrr
Insane!
I was there! It was absolutely class.
ferociuos.
Thanks Dave.
Metallica with a drummer at the same level as the whole band, it's quite strange and it really kicks asses! Holy shit 👊🤘
Dave is not a common drummer
Probably the fastest version ever. The double bass after the solo and during the outro must of made Lars cry.
"Fastest version ever"
