Geezer Butler (the most under rated bassists of all time) was the primary lyricist, Ozzy mostly came up with the vocal melodies. Keep up the good work chaps!
Exactly. Lots of people, reactors included, assume that the vocalist is always the lyricist. Another incorrect assumption is that all lyrics are autobiographical. Congrats on hitting 100K guys!
It went like this, They would get to gether for a jam. Toni would come up with a riff, Bill would provide the driving force Gezzer with the bass, and Ozzy would sing any rubbish. But what all the band menbers all say, Ozzy was'nt given enough credit. He would come up with these incredible melody lines. Geezer would change the lyrics, but maybe use one word or a line Ozzy sang. But the 1st melody lines Ozzy sang were always what the band went with. There's a great YT vid "BLACK SABBATH - The Story Behind "Planet Caravan" That explains most of this. ua-cam.com/video/zoQga3hMkyc/v-deo.html
Sabbath was always a bunch of hippies playing the blues, all their songs were about peace and love. They were leaving a horror movie theatre and saw all the people, and Iommi was like 'all these people paid money to be scared, let's scare people.'
As much as I love Geezer's bass and Tony's riffs in this song, the part that stands out most to me is Bill's drumming. If you're wearing headphones, you can hear it pan from ear to ear during the song.
Next time you guys check out Black Sabbath, I highly recommend checking out "Symptom Of The Universe". Trust me guys, there's a reason why that song is soo huge amongst the fans. Great reaction as usual guys, congrats on the 100k subscribers! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
And afterwards check out the Sepultura cover of "Symptom Of The Universe". And Pantera did a couple of Black Sabbath covers. They did "Hole In The Sky" and "Planet Caravan".
Symptom of the universe is very overrated, there's 40 hit songs off the first 5 albums without having to dive into that weak album. National Acrobat is my favorite sick Iommi riff, sick AF .
I just wanna highlight Bill Ward's amazing drumming in this song (every song lol), those extra roto toms add richness to the sound. Bill Ward goes under-recognized in conversations of greatest drummers in history, a lot of people talk about John Bonham (deservedly so), but I think Bill Ward is better than him. That might be a controversial statement, sorry not sorry lol 😝. 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Geezer (bass) was primary lyricist. Ozzy threw a few bits in here and there (according to Iommi's biography) Iommi's easily one of the most influential guitarists of all time and the only member to be on every Sabbath album.
You commented on Bill Ward's drumming... it's always superb... one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Check out WAR PIGS live in Paris 1970... he's hitting those drums like they owe him a LOTTA money... it's a wonder the drums survived.
You guys are on a roll today, too many bangers in one day! This is my favorite Black Sabbath song, just soo many great riffs and change-ups in one song, Tony Iommi spoils us!
This was from the third album in 1971, Master of Reality. Music by the great Tony Iommi (eye-OWE-me), who invented metal, and lyrics by the great bass player, Geezer Butler, who wrote all of the lyrics during the Ozzy era.
Check out "Lord Of This World" and "Into The Void" from the same record. Actually, you guys should do a whole album reaction to this,it's one of the greatest ever made.
Cool insight on the song guys. Would be cool if you guys checked out "Supernaut" from the Vol. 4 album and or "A National Acrobat" from the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album.
First use of term "Heavy Metal" in music was in Born to be Wild, Steppenwolf. The term was coined by Beat writer Willam Burroughs in his novel Naked Lunch..
My favorite Black Sabbath album with Ozzy is ''Sabotage'' the whole album keeps you interested and cool riffs everywhere, maybe some of their best songs are in it. I Recommend ''Megalomania'', ''The Thrill of it All'', and ''The Writ''
Hi Guys From various sources. Are there any Black Sabbath songs that Ozzy wrote the lyrics. Geezer Butler wrote about 90% of the lyrics to all black sabbath songs with Ozzy. That being said off the top of my head I know that (surprise surprise) the synthesizer driven “who are you” is an Ozzy creation as is the synthesizer driven “am I going insane” from sabotage. I know Ozzy and Geezer wrote the lyrics to fairies wear boots together when they were high. Ozzy never wrote any other lyrics as far as I know. Who wrote the music? That’s easy; Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. The only song Ozzy can truly call his own while in Black Sabbath is Changes from Vol. 4. Ozzy wrote the songs, wrote the lyrics and played the piano. Is the only song he did this whole with Black Sabbath. Children of the Grave (song) The song is about the threat of a nuclear war and that the youth needs to stand against the corrupt politicians and just spread peace and love, or the wars will put an end to the human race. White Zombie has covered the song for the cover album Nativity In Black. Tarot has also covered the song for their album "To Live Forever". The song has appeared on Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock as a playable song. The title of the song is referenced in League of Legends as the name of an ultimate attack of the character Mordekaiser. It's also used as the background music of the opening level of Brütal Legend.
Sabbath singers...First Ozzy...then Dio...Ian Gillan(more famously known for singing for Deep Purple) for one album...Ray Gillan, Tony Martin...there were some singers who were temporarily with band but did not record on any albums...Ozzy and Dio had reunited with bands several times. The last time Dio reunited with band they went under another band name Heaven and Hell( title of first Sabbath album with Dio) just prior to Dio's death.
11:48 Precisely. The band's instrumental leads most people to think that Sabbath is a band focused on the macabre and the occult, but the truth is that if you weigh the whole body of work, you'll be surprised that they were one of the bands with the most content against the war, the system and all the evil that plagued everyday life at the time.
Geezer Butler (bass player) was the primary lyricist As for the guitar distortion sound, that was not on purpose. Tony lost 2 tips of his fingers and loosened the guitar strings to be able to play. The distortion came from that. It was never intentional.
Happy 100k day! Awesome to see you cover this track, I think I requested the White Zombie cover of this back in the day. But yeah, Black Sabbath started Metal. You nailed it about the message. The spirit of love at the core of darkness is the true spirit of Metal imo.
Love seeing the youth love the Classics...one of the Best Sabbath Songs Ever...Just perfect..and you guys got the message💚 Don't be Children of the Grave...
YUP! And there's a KILLER cover with Rob Halford singing. "Bullring Brummies" is the "supergroup" that does it. If the Rappers haven't heard "Faeries Wear Boots" and "War Pigs" (more great socially redeeming lyrics, lol!) they damn well SHOULD!
Happy 100k day Gentlemen 💕🤘🏼 so glad to have found you guys, this is well deserved and I’m guessing it’s going to only skyrocket from here, have a great rest of your day! For fun, check out Zakk Wylde playing Black Sabbath’s NIB on a Hello Kitty guitar, it’s pretty bad ass and hilarious at the same time😎✨👻 Also, you may appreciate Tori Amos Mary Jane ✌💚
Y’all need to give Planet Caravan a listen then give Pantera’s version a listen. Also congratulations on 100 K. Proud to be one of the MJK Maggot Talkers
When I was a kid no more tears was new and I was witching it on MTV (yes I'm old) and I said to my brother this guy is ripping off black sabbaths voice lol. He smacked the back of my head and called me a dumb ass it's the same guy. And yes smokey has a point. I started following the lyrics with some rap and I have to say a lot of rap songs lyrics are masterpieces. No all songs...... but a fair amount that I've listened to.
I mean I was in high school when No More Tears came out… and I’m not old 😩😆 Saw him back then on his No More Tours tour… which turned out to not be true haha. Thirty years ago he said he was done touring! And now he’s 470 years old like they said 😆
I watched a documentary about a run down housing estate in Wales with a big drug problem. They used this as the background music. I couldn’t get the riff out of my head.
Bill Ward is a Beast ! One of my all time favorite drummers. He beats those drums like they owe him money 🤣. Black Sabbath, Forever the Godfathers of Metal! \m/
From wikipedia, On his last day of work in a sheet metal factory, as a teenager, Iommi lost the tips of the middle and ring fingers of his right hand in an accident, an event which crucially impacted his playing style. He briefly left Black Sabbath (then known as Earth) in 1968 to join Jethro Tull, but did not record any material with the band, and subsequently returned to Black Sabbath in 1969. In 2000, he released his first solo album Iommi, followed by 2005's Fused, which featured his former bandmate Glenn Hughes. After releasing Fused, he formed Heaven & Hell, which disbanded after the death of Ronnie James Dio in 2010.
My first Black Sabbath show. Chicago’s International Amphitheater I was 19 years old in the second row. February 11, 1974 Set list: Tomorrow's Dream Sweet Leaf Killing Yourself to Live Snowblind Sabbra Cadabra Guitar Solo (including jams) Sometimes I'm Happy Drum Solo Supernaut (two verses) Iron Man Don't Start (Too Late) Black Sabbath (guitar solo continues into Sabbra Cadabra reprise) Embryo Children of the Grave Encore 1: War Pigs Encore 2: Paranoid Yeah, it was that good.
Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics, he's the bassist. Ozzy sometimes created the vocal melody, but his contribution is mainly his unique vocal tone. Sometimes despairing, sometimes distressed, sometimes demonic. These are the Gods of heavy rock
Ozzy's biggest solo hit was Crazy Train. Lyrics are.... Maybe it's not too late To learn how to love And forget how to hate So you're right. Ozzy spreads a positive message 🤘
Ozzy has long been known to his fans to be an extremely sweet guy. In the earlier years society went by perception and never bothered to listen to the words. Unfortunately not alot has changed.
The lyrics are from the bassist, Geezer Butler, not from Ozzy. However, the way Ozzy interprets them with his iconic voice!! I saw Black Sabbath in 1978 in San Diego when Van Halen opened, and then again in 2013 at Tinley Park, Illinois. Unbelievable!!
Someone else has said it, but Geezer Butler on bass was the lyricist, Ozzy just came up with some melodies. Geezer did approach his lyrics from a good place like you said, his lyrics are great.
THANK.YOU.SMOKEY!! I have been in awe of the bad rap Ozzy got when his music is probably one of the most positive messages in metal. I was born in 85 so I missed witnessing the heyday of Sabbath and Blizzard in person. Ozzy was my second music obsession after my love affair with Def Leppard was over. When I was 7, I "borrowed" my uncles copy of Tribute, put on the cans, and had my mind blown! I have been defending Ozzy's good name when it came to his music since that day. Keep slaying it Fellas, Horns up! \m/
When you guys were talking about Black Sabbath, basically the pioneers of metal, and Smokey mentioned psychedelic music being Sabbath’s influence to Tony Iommi’s guitar sound, if that was the comment ..well. The fact Tony had to use prosthetic tips on his fingers, it was a bit painful for him to play. So Tony down tuned his guitar to C standard tuning, therefore the sound, heavy sound of Black Sabbath. Can’t remember the name of the documentary, but Tony mentioned! Pretty cool!!
Iommie’s guitar tone actually involves much less gain/distortion than you think. The story I heard was that Who drummer Keith Moon created the appellation”Heavy Metal” when he said that Led Zeppelin’s music sounded “like heavy metal falling from the sky.”
Black Sabbaths song Black Sabbath is literally the first heavy metal song ever recorded. Y'all have to check it out, especially if y'all are true metalheads!
All of Black Sabbath's singers Ian Gillan (1982-84) Ronnie James Dio (1979-82, 1991-92, 2006-10) Glenn Hughes (1985-86) Tony Martin (1987-91, 1993-97) Rob Halford (1992, 2004) Ray Gillen (1986-87) Dave Walker (1977-78) Ron Keel (1984) David Donato (1984) Ozzy Osbourne (1968-1977, 1978-1979, 1985, 1997-2006, 2011-2017)
Ozzy and Dio were the ones that appeared on the most studio albums. Some of these, like Halford, were guest spots but weren't actually members of Black Sabbath.
Chunky. Smoking. Sludge. I mean that in the best way, lol! Lit the F up riff, AND enlightened lyrics--I was glad to see you guys picked up on the nature of the message here! I'm 57, so I can speak to what it was like to "live in the shadow of atomic fear," as Ozzy sings. Everyone sort of accepted IT could come at any second, but we sort of numbed ourselves to it. Now many think it is a Thing of the Past, but I hope ALL leaders keep in mind: In wartime, Mr. Escalation ALWAYS flirts with Miss Calculation.
I believe metal heads generally get a bad rep as evil devil worshipers etc. It may be true- but we’re also nerds, gamers, outcasts and all walks of life that bond over our love for heavy music. Music that makes us happiest! The metal community is so welcoming and free, and there’s something special there. 🤘🏻🖤love watching your videos

In which world is Geezer underrated?
Bang on the money Chris.
Sabbath was always a bunch of hippies playing the blues, all their songs were about peace and love. They were leaving a horror movie theatre and saw all the people, and Iommi was like 'all these people paid money to be scared, let's scare people.'
Geezer was into reading about the occult.
As much as I love Geezer's bass and Tony's riffs in this song, the part that stands out most to me is Bill's drumming. If you're wearing headphones, you can hear it pan from ear to ear during the song.

Amen!
Not better but Ward was incredible too
We can certainly talk about them in the same breath!
Not by me.
I have him alongside Moon and Ringo (yes,Ringo) as best of all time.
Underneath those 3,I have about 40!
Bill Ward really was a great drummer and doesn't get the credit that Bonham, Peart or Moon get. Bill and Geezer Butler was an amazing rhythm section.
From what I understand from interviews I've read, bassist Geezer Butler wrote most of the lyrics during the Ozzy era.
Cheers from Sweden 🤙
Yeah Geezer did indeed write most of the lyrics during the Ozzy era. It changed when Dio replaced him
That's correct.
Geezer (bass) was primary lyricist. Ozzy threw a few bits in here and there (according to Iommi's biography) Iommi's easily one of the most influential guitarists of all time and the only member to be on every Sabbath album.
‘Electric Funeral’ and ‘Into the Void’ are some of Ozzy’s best lyrics
I actually think Geezer wrote almost all the lyrics
You commented on Bill Ward's drumming... it's always superb... one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Check out WAR PIGS live in Paris 1970... he's hitting those drums like they owe him a LOTTA money... it's a wonder the drums survived.
Congrats Hollywood and Smokey on 100k! Every morning when I get off night shift I am headbanging along with you guys to some rocking tunes!
Geezer Butler is a criminally underrated, under appriciated bassist and lyricist. \m/
Spot on with yr comment bout Ozzie teaching love, life etc 🍻
THE SABBATH!!!!!!! On my Mount Rushmore
(Edit)
1. Black Sabbath
2. Megadeth
3. Judas Priest
4. Mercyful Fate
Embryo leading into Children of the Grave is magical.
You guys are on a roll today, too many bangers in one day! This is my favorite Black Sabbath song, just soo many great riffs and change-ups in one song, Tony Iommi spoils us!

Nice, 100k subs!!
Excuse me a minute while I go off to listen to the live version…. Back. Now that was the sauce!

Children of the Grave (song)
The song is about the threat of a nuclear war and that the youth needs to stand against the corrupt politicians and just spread peace and love, or the wars will put an end to the human race.
That ending gives me chills every time. A great contrast to the rest of the song.

You guys should react to an underrated band. Supertramp.
Love love love this song! I haven’t heard it in years thank you!!
This song comes from album #3 "Master Of Reality".
My favourite Sabbath track. The original metal headbanger track.
Geezer Butler (bass player) was the primary lyricist
As for the guitar distortion sound, that was not on purpose. Tony lost 2 tips of his fingers and loosened the guitar strings to be able to play. The distortion came from that. It was never intentional.
My favorite Sabbath song is National Acrobat, off Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, the riff is super sick, Geezer was the main lyricist of Sabbath.🤘
Keep in mind that the majority of the lyrics were written by Geezer, the bass player.
Happy 100k day! Awesome to see you cover this track, I think I requested the White Zombie cover of this back in the day. But yeah, Black Sabbath started Metal. You nailed it about the message. The spirit of love at the core of darkness is the true spirit of Metal imo.
100K Day!
🤘🏻😸✌🏻
Love seeing the youth love the Classics...one of the Best Sabbath Songs Ever...Just perfect..and you guys got the message💚 Don't be Children of the Grave...
YOU GUYS NEED TO SEE SABBATH PLAY WAR PIGS IN 1970 FROM PARIS! You may know the song but if you haven't seen this video, YOU MUST WATCH IT!
Another fun Black Sabbath song for you to check out is called " The Wizard" from 1970
Can you imagine hearing this song in the early 70s ??? It had to be revolutionary at the time heaviness wise !
The drumming on Symptom of the Universe is what happens when you give meth to Bill Ward, just bananas
Bassist Geezer Butler wrote most of the lyrics for Black Sabbath during the Ozzy years.
Happy 100k day Gentlemen 💕🤘🏼 so glad to have found you guys, this is well deserved and I’m guessing it’s going to only skyrocket from here, have a great rest of your day!
For fun, check out Zakk Wylde playing Black Sabbath’s NIB on a Hello Kitty guitar, it’s pretty bad ass and hilarious at the same time😎✨👻
Also, you may appreciate Tori Amos Mary Jane ✌💚
Hahaa I love Zakk playing the Hello Kitty guitar 😆
Y’all need to give Planet Caravan a listen then give Pantera’s version a listen. Also congratulations on 100 K. Proud to be one of the MJK Maggot Talkers
Oh HELL YES! Also, they should check out White Zombie's cover of Children of the Grave.
True bro planet caravan is a unique song and masterpiece
Bill Ward, one of the most underrated drummers EVER!!!
The lyrics were from Geezer Butler
One of my Fav Sabbath tunes! And NIB. Congrats for 100k bros!
Children Of The Grave is from Sabbath's third album "Master Of Reality", released in 1971.
Smokey was spot on, how heavy metal was created was exactly what he said.
And now he’s 470 years old like they said 😆
My favourite Sabbath song ! Long live Prince of Darkness !
I like to see you do a reaction to "Zero The Hero" by Black Sabbath featuring Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) on vocals.
Zero the Hero is amazing - they would LOVE it!
I was watching as your numbers were going up. Congrats on the 10K!!!!
Been quietly waiting for this one to come across the channel. Ty guys and congrats on 100K!
Love love love that drum overlay just makes this song
Geezer Butler (bassist) wrote most of the lyrics.
Don't Start (Too Late) Black Sabbath

Yeah, it was that good.
My favorite Black Sabbath song !!
CAKE'S cover of WAR PIGS need to be up on your channel. 🤞
You are so spot on about ozzy! It's great that you see him for what he is!
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate
So you're right. Ozzy spreads a positive message 🤘
the lyrics were written by the Great Bassist Geezer Butler as were 95 % of Black sabbath's lyrics
The whole band brings it with this song .Smokey nailed it about Ozzy. Some lyrics from Ozzy are almost Gospel when you look at them closely .
Third album, Master of Reality, was 1971. The first 2 albums were released in 1970.
Ozzy has long been known to his fans to be an extremely sweet guy. In the earlier years society went by perception and never bothered to listen to the words. Unfortunately not alot has changed.
One of my top three Ozzy (Black Sabbath) songs. The lyrics today are more relevant than ever.
Favorite black sabbath song
One song that nobody else will request , that I like , is The Warning !!
THANKS FOR SABBATH 👍 CAN'T GET ENOUGH
Someone else has said it, but Geezer Butler on bass was the lyricist, Ozzy just came up with some melodies. Geezer did approach his lyrics from a good place like you said, his lyrics are great.

MY FAVORITE FUCKING SABBATH SONG OF ALL TIME!!! ❤❤❤
just as an FYI , tune is about saving the planet b4 our kids become children of the grave ---- sabbath my all time fav band
They've had multiple singers. Ozzy, Dio, Martin, Gillan, Hughes. Rob Halford has even sang with them Live
Some of the best drumming I have ever heard
Most Sabbath lyrics were written by Geezer Butler, not Ozzy.
This song was from their third album Master of reality
Iommie’s guitar tone actually involves much less gain/distortion than you think.
The story I heard was that Who drummer Keith Moon created the appellation”Heavy Metal” when he said that Led Zeppelin’s music sounded “like heavy metal falling from the sky.”
The term "heavy metal" dates back at least as far as BORN TO BE WILD by Steppenwolf "I like smoke and lightening and heavy metal thunder"
When Zep was The New Yarbirds Moon said their sound sounded like a lead balloon and that's where Led Zeppelin came from.
I was lucky enough to see the original Black Sabbath play 2002 at Oz fest. They were on godly
White Zombie has an incredible cover of this song from the Nativity In Black Black Sabbath Tribute album.
Master of Reality.
Black Sabbaths song Black Sabbath is literally the first heavy metal song ever recorded. Y'all have to check it out, especially if y'all are true metalheads!
Cool how they made the feedback sound like a graveyard
All of Black Sabbath's singers
Ian Gillan (1982-84)
Ronnie James Dio (1979-82, 1991-92, 2006-10)
Glenn Hughes (1985-86)
Tony Martin (1987-91, 1993-97)
Rob Halford (1992, 2004)
Ray Gillen (1986-87)
Dave Walker (1977-78)
Ron Keel (1984)
David Donato (1984)
Ozzy Osbourne (1968-1977, 1978-1979, 1985, 1997-2006, 2011-2017)
Ozzy and Dio were the ones that appeared on the most studio albums. Some of these, like Halford, were guest spots but weren't actually members of Black Sabbath.
My favorite heavy Hippies!
Sabbath were actually always positive, they just sound like evil personified 🤘😝
Good job on 100K, I am enjoying the ride !
Great breakdown as always guys \m/
Congrats on 100k guys! Be careful and dont get too popular bc yt will start to block all your reactions for some reason!!
Chunky. Smoking.
Got to see them twice!!!!!
White Zombie did cover of Children of the Grave for the greatest hits album "Nativity in Black" that came out in 1994.
