Just thought I'd point out that your guy's thumbnail is the cover art for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Sweet Leaf is from Master of Reality, one of the first albums I ever owned. Used to blast this song all the time back in the day, before I even knew what the 'leaf' was, lol
Yeah this track is an absolute classic, it's considered the first ever stoner metal song and is basically credited with starting the entire stoner metal/rock sub-genre. If you guys haven't checked it out already, ya'll need to hear either Hand Of Doom or Snowblind. Both are killer tracks and absolute classics as well. Keep it up ya'll
Absolutely- these three tracks are responsible for stoner/doom/sludge, along with Hole in the Sky. Sabbath aren't just responsible for heavy metal but also at least two sub-genres as well.
Hi there guys. do enjoy your reactions. With regards to Sabbath. I would go with any of Into The Void, Symptom of The Universe or Supernaut. All amazing and out there Sabbath tunes. USA also had an early hard rock/proto metal band called The Blue Cheer. Try their version of Summertime Blues. For really early noisy guitar music, (pre sabbath), The Witch by The Sonics (early punk). For really great 80s thrash go with Tribal Convictions by Voivod. For brilliant US punk listen to Hollywood Babylon by The Misfits or Garbage Man by The Cramps. I'm sure you've done Ministry, so try I Will Refuse by Pailhead. Can't go wrong with any of the above. Enjoy
That's the sound coming from my sons room every morning and last thing @ night. Him choking down a few bong hits. I always laugh 😄 😁 because he coughs until he almost pukes!! .. he's still a novice.
The members of sabbath were from a gritty, economically depressed industrial city in England. They did not feel in touch with the whole summer of love hippie, peace and love movement of the 60’s. They decided to make “scary” music instead. I for one am glad they went their own way.
What a way to start the week. Thanks guys. I rarely comment (older dude here)but just wanted to say I love chilling with you early in the morning. Makes getting up a little easier. Wish I could smoke one with you guys. Peace out be safe
Tony Iommi didn't invent distortion, or heavy riffs, but was the pioneer of heavy metal. His riffs came to define heavy metal. He injured his fingers in an industrial accident, and had plastic finger tips made for his left hand. Because of this, he down-tuned the guitar so the strings would be easier to play. It also made riffs that deeper and darker sounding, which was perfect for their sound.
Bill Ward on Drums and Geezer Butler on Bass are on of the most underrated rhythm sections in Rock....both are effin' monsters and are simply overlooked by many because of Ozzy's iconic vocals and Iomi's unique sound. Sabbath is the Godfather of Metal.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Sabbath play live a few times. Watching Tony Iommi play these iconic riffs is one of the best things I've ever seen Oh and suggestion- Ozzy - Killer of Giants
"THEY HAVE LEGENDARY RIFFS" Yessir BH6, they did indeed. SO legendary in fact, that the opening Riff to this tune got swiped by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to use at the end of "Give It Away". Good stuff. If you're going to steal Steal good stuff.
According to Geezer Butler (Bass Player) he was looking at a pack of cigarettes and the pack said 'The Sweetest of Leaf". Thats how the song came ot be. Everyone says weed but that is according to Black Sabbath's Bass Player
Black Sabbath is the first metal band. Oddly enough it was due to an accident that he down tuned his guitar. He worked in a factory and had the tips of 2 of his fingers on his fret hand chopped off. He made prosthetic fingertips and tuned his guitar differently to make playing easier and in the process created heavy metal.
No way, literally just listened to Masters of Reality thinking if people react to this. Good job guys! Please give Mad Season - Wake up a react. Layne stayley on vocals and a supergeoup made up from screaming trees, pearl jam and alice in chains
The album that this came from, Master of Reality, left me completely awestruck, summer between 8th and 9th grade, after my older brother brought it home when he came back from Navy boot camp. It sounded so ponderous and heavy that I could feel it in my bones, it was simply nothing at all like the am radio pop music that was playing all around me that summer. I still throw the album on at least once a year, and just let the experience wash over me all over again.
I saw the original lineup on their 1st reunion at Ozzfest '99 at The Gorge in WA. They were epic as well as most of the festival line up including Slayer, Primus, Deftones etc.
Saw the original line up reunion a couple of times myself with a shedload of really famous bands too lol....Doesnt matter.....did you enjoy their music?
Part of the reason for Tony's guitar tone is he down tuned his guitar so he could bend the strings more easily because he chopped his finger tip off on a shear a day before starting Sabbath. Thus inadvertently inventing the metal 🤘🤘
Back in the early 70's when Led Zepplin was getting air time on the Radio, Black Sabbath would not until the early 80's . Sabbath however had more of an underground following during the 70's & earned its title as the grandfather of metal though some would disagree. Story has it that the band worked in construction in between gigs. A freak accident occurred one day when a piece of sheet metal fell & sliced off the finger tips of Tony Iommi . This forced him to wear finger tip prosthetics where he had to downtune the guitar to compensate.. This brought foward the beginning of the power riffs that Sabbath is known for.. Around that time Ozzy got hold of the black book & after reading it one night had an spirit aberition appear in his bedroom . Scared shytless he ran over to Geezers place where Geezer put to lyrics Ozzys experience-..."Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" became the finished product. Some say this was the flesh offering that brought to life a new art form called Heavy Metal....The Bands name was then changed to......"Black Sabbath"!..........."What is this that stands before me???? ....Spirit in black.".......🤘
Awesome reaction guys! Drummer Bill Ward is one of the most underrated drummers of this era. Thanks for showing him some love. Keep it up guys. And I’m going to request again and again and again, do a reaction to shotgun blues by Volbeat. Thanks guys
Now you’re talking! Black Sabbath! I have suggestions of songs by them if you guys want to check out. Black Sabbath N.I.B. Changes Fairies Wear Boots Paranoid Iron Man Into the Void Lord of This World Never Say Die Symptom of the Universe After Forever Sabbath, Bloody, Sabbath Psycho Man Selling My Soul God is Dead? That’s just off the top of my head. Like I say, no matter what you choose to jam out to I will be looking forward to seeing your reaction. Peace!
Great reaction. Here are a couple of comments. When you say "he said", it is probably Butler the Bass player who wrote most, if not all, the lyrics. Weed has been illegal mainly because it can be grown anywhere unlike tobacco or coffee. If corporations could have gotten a patent on it, it would have been legal years ago just like if the oil companies could have patented the Sun, we would have solar energy everywhere. The name Black Sabbath came from a movie title. I saw them twice in the early 70's while in college and they blew me away. I am so blessed to have been a youth during the Golden Age of Rock. One more thing. I think Ward is in my top 3 of greatest drummers of all time.
We used to smoke out playing this album! Not sure how they make cocaine but I know opium is made from poppy seeds ( which of course is natural ) and it's still illegal! My favorites by Black Sabbath are this one, Paranoid, War Pigs, and Iron Man!
Great song but I think you have the wrong album on your thumbnail. On a different note I feel that I have to say that I started watching music reaction videos on UA-cam around a year ago and it astounded me that young adults (20-30’s) did not know these songs that I have known and grew up with. Simply because they are so iconic. I’m now at a point where I appreciate them sooo much more and I’m extremely grateful to have had them influence my life all these years. I also want to sincerely thank people like you two who willingly opened your minds and explored this kind of music and others with an open mind and heart. I am confident in saying that I feel like you two and other reactors like you have benefited far beyond what you could have imagined by doing so. Thank you, guys for restoring a big piece of my faith in the human kind. ❤️
Awesome stuff! I'm *SURE* I remember the vid you mention because I remember you talking about the house on the cover for Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath. I ended up trying to find out who the person was on there because of your comments about it!!! Anyway... Love that you are doing more Sabbath videos. For more mental stuff with Bill Ward going off, check out "Black Sabbath War Pigs live 1970" (that's literally the title on youtube!). He used to have an oxygen bottle behind the stage for in between songs as he would go so damn hard!!! Also - Cocoa and Coca are VERY different species. Coffee is different too...
The original Coca Cola had cocaine in it, hence the name of the soda. It was drank for medicinal use until the effects of it were found out. Then the cocaine was removed from the recipe.
They released a new album and reunion in 2017. It was their third farewell tour 🤣 but without Bill Ward the drummer. I was lucky enough to see the Glasgow show which was their 3rd from final show. Ozzy is great but Tony Iommi is the MVP and only one to be there for every Sabbath album. Should check out a song when Dio was in Sabbath.
Hello from Chicago 👁. I have seen Black Sabbath 5 times. I was blessed to see there Final tour in 2016. I work for a ticket broker and had VIP meet and greet. Got to sit in his dressing room with 10 people and OZZY. We talked to him for 45 minutes. Coolest Rock Legend I have ever met! Super nice and funny. Have stories I can't repeat, lol. And as we we leaving his dressing room we were greeted by Sharon. A night I will Never Forget. Love you channel guys.
if im not mistaken, He was in a band called "Earth" and the band eventully changed there name to Black sabbeth ... but Earth was his first band "I think"
There were other bands that had 1-2 songs heavier, but none came close to black sabbath, they are the ones that kicked the bolder down the hill. To me black sabbath is the ultimate Metal band, everyne genre out there can be heard in the Black Sabbath discography, Toni Iommy to this day insists that black sabbath is a blues band, I call BS. P.S. the distinctive sound of Iommis riffs comes from a work accident he had while working in a steel factory that caused him to loose parts of his fingertips (the accident is real but I'm not so sure that it actually affected his playing style)
The bass player, geezer butler, tells the story of the origin of this song. Geezer ozzy and tony iommi were sitting at a kitchen table. Tony and geezer had their guitars and were working on some riffs when ozzy, who was siitting quietly rolling a big fat joint, began to sing to it. Geezer frantically started writing down what ozzy was saying, and the lyrics to this song were born.
Bill Ward was a beast! I used to play this song in a band as a drummer and I never really did it justice I don't think, but it was a lot of fun to play. There are parts in there where it sounds like reckless abandon, but actually, it's brilliant playing. The riff of this song, what it's about, Ozzy doing his thing, makes this one of my all time favorites. Great reaction.
I don’t remember if I was one of those that requested this song but I’m very happy y’all did it. I just got a guitar about 2 weeks ago and this was my first song that I learned to play except for the little gallop near the end but this is a great track
you guys must react to Gojira #1 Amazonia #2 Global Warming #3 In the forest This is some of their soft songs, if you guys react and like these songs, I'll give you 3 of their heaviest songs
Black Sabbath had two amazing singers; Ozzy Osborne and Ronnie James Dio. Both have many amazing songs both in and outside the group. You should check out Heaven and Hell with RJD on vocals.
Part 2 There were some other dings I should’ve listed and here are the ones I forgot (stupid me!): War Pigs Planet Caravan Children of the Grave The Wizard Snowblind Evil Woman Spiral Architect Hand of Doom Megalomania Okay, I think I gave you guys a list of songs to check out. Black Sabbath 101. Lol Peace!
The influence of this song is diverse, far and wide. The riff from this song was used by the Beastie Boys in 1986 on the track "Rhymin' and Stealin'". It was also used in a reconstructed cover version called "Sweat Loaf" by the Butthole Surfers in 1987. Black Sabbath influenced so many musicians across the globe. Not just in rock and metal, but other genres too. Even William Shatner has covered "Iron Man" in his time!
Yep, pretty much. Tony Iommi "invented" that sound due to an accident he had at work where he sliced off the tips of some of his fretting-hand fingers. That led to him having to wear thimble-like tips for his fingers in order to be able to properly finger the notes on his guitar neck, which in turn led to him deciding to tune his guitar lower than normal so that the strings were looser and easier to fret and bend given his situation. That resulted in the heavier-sounding riffs, which in turn influenced many later metal bands who explicitly acknowledge it, even if they play different genres of rock. For example, you can hear a clear Sabbath influence in the guitar sound of both Soundgarden and Alice in Chains even though they're not "traditional" metal bands. Both use a lot of Drop-D Tuning, which Tony Iommi popularized by necessity.
The name Sweet Leaf comes from an Irish brand of cigarettes, which Geezer brought back to England from a holiday, but of course it's the birth of stoner metal. Ozzy and Geezer used to be in a band called Rare Breed before Sabbath, but I don't think they recorded anything. Bill and Tony used to be in Mythology. Ice-T samples Sabs songs "Black Sabbath" on his songs "Shut Up, Be Happy" and "Midnight", and "War Pigs" on "Rhyme Pays". He guests on a Sabbath song too "The Illusion of Power".
In 67 he was in a band called Rare Breed and I believe also had Geezer Butler.... that band didn't last long. In 68 is when Black Sabbath was formed. I was born in 70 and grew up listening to Sabbath as well as Deep Purple.... my 2 favorites as a kid growing up, which was the beginning of my journey into metal. The last album with Ozzy Never Say Die, if I remember correctly, was fired due to Ozzy's excessive alcohol and drug use plus differences in some changes to style and sound of their music.... hence that album was considered the worst Sabbath album. Then Dio stepped in and Sabbath was reborn with Heaven and Hell 🤘😎🤘
Black Sabbath may be the first heavy metal band, but the 1968 song "In A Godda Da Vita" by Iron Butterfly is usually considered to be the first heavy metal song. There are lots of chunky riffs in that song.
The band that may not have been the first heavy band, but they were the most influential. They birthed the doom metal genre and this specific song birthed the stoner metal genre, as they would become known later in the future. Both genres have successful bands with their own long lasting legacies by now, like Sleep, you should check out "Dragonaut" as it's their most famous song.
Friday, April 30, 1982 Venue: Northlands Coliseum Location:Vinny Appice - Black Sabbath drummer 1980 to 1982 and on and off until 1997. Vinny and his older brother Carmine are widely known in a drumming community. Vinny played With Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio, Heaven and Hell, Joel Hoekstra and many others. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Ronnie James Dio was the singer seen them in person at this concert i was 16 it was great
First band that Ozzy was in went by the name of " EARTH " . They try to be a blues band , and were big fans of CREAM , Hendrix & blues. While in the band EARTH , you can already hear them building that Sabbath sound that they're known for .
Tony had distorted riffs because of accidentally cutting off 2 fingers and wearing plastic on those 2 fingers and the strings being different. He feels the strings differently which makes that distorted sound. Heavy Metal sounds came from working class factories in England which also influened the sound Black Sabbath. That and scary music. Ozzy figured if people loved horror movies, they would like horror/scary music as well.
Sabbath was their first big band, but they had probably all played in different little bands previously. Ozzy was actually kicked out of a blues band because he would clap and dance while performing, and the guitarist was mad at him.
The story goes that Black Sabbath were originally called Earth, (not to be confused with the present day band called Earth) and they used to rehearse in a space that was up the block from a theater that showed scary movies. Then one day it dawned on them to start making scary music. They got the name Black Sabbath from a poster for a Boris Karloff movie that had been playing at the theater. Additional Fun Fact: White Zombie also got their name from an old horror movie.
Of course guys I appreciate you checking out one of my favorite bands of all time but what I've noticed is you generally check out the well-known tracks it'd be nice to see a track that is great that's considered a less well-known track or a b side or something I suggest something from 1974 album possibly wheels of confusion really or any track off this album it's one of the greatest not well known albums that they have ever put out🗑️🗣️4️⃣🧬
Hand of Doom is ice cold, Warning from the self-titled is great, Ozzy RIPS on the harmonica in The Wizard and anyone who doubts Bill Ward's skill behind a kit needs to check out Rat Salad
@@mikethemotormouth of course most things on master of reality album are great and the original album are great wicked village behind the wall of sleep that's what I would like them to check out of course but they seem to only want to check out mainstream radio tunes that they've had hopefully they can get into some of the actual good Black Sabbath not just the radio bullshit

Holy shit how have I never noticed that before?!
Flashing back to Clambaking down by the river during High School to this one!
I never thought it would take this long either. Black Sabbath are the masters. Period.
According to Geezer Butler (Bass Player) he was looking at a pack of cigarettes and the pack said 'The Sweetest of Leaf". Thats how the song came ot be. Everyone says weed but that is according to Black Sabbath's Bass Player
I think a part of Black Sabbaths distinct sound, as well as metal in general, comes from the heavy use of power chords and palm muting.
The lead guitar player lost the tops of his fingers in an accident and had to change the way he played
Black Sabbath is the first metal band. Oddly enough it was due to an accident that he down tuned his guitar. He worked in a factory and had the tips of 2 of his fingers on his fret hand chopped off.
Love the vibe you guys give out. Stay blessed and enjoy
Can't believe we were rocking to this 45 years ago - or more !! 🤘😎
You need to react to Monster Magnet ”Spacelord” and get your minds blown by great rock music.
Yo yo yo Black Sabbath great song
Tony Iommi = G.o.a.t / Godfather of metal
Riff Master
Black Sabbath was called Earth before Sabbath. They were Ozzy's first band that made it big. They met in college.
I’m having a puff right now actually on this sunny Sunday morning here in Cornwall.
Sabbath + sunshine + Mary Jane = bliss.
Dude, Smokey is so baked 🤣
And absolutely Me whenever I listen to Sweet Leaf high af 💚
I just got a guitar about 2 weeks ago and this was my first song that I learned to play except for the little gallop near the end but this is a great track
you guys must react to Gojira
#1 Amazonia
#2 Global Warming
#3 In the forest
This is some of their soft songs, if you guys react and like these songs, I'll give you 3 of their heaviest songs
Black Sabbath had two amazing singers; Ozzy Osborne and Ronnie James Dio. Both have many amazing songs both in and outside the group. You should check out Heaven and Hell with RJD on vocals.
How has “Smoke Diggety” not heard Sweet Leaf? In any case, a fitting introduction.
Rock on!
Happy happy Monday! When are ya'll gonna give Sabbath their own day too?? :D
Definitely do Helter Skelter! Iconic
Top 3 in my favorite Sabbath songs. It is EVERYTHING 🖤
That album cover always scared me as a kid. Great memories of my brother playing drums to this album

A National Acrobat should be next
Hey Fam! Let’s go! I do have a recommendation. H.T. From the Trigun soundtrack. Dudes. You’ll love it
They did their last album about 8 years ago with Ozzy singing and the last tour was in 2016
The influence of this song is diverse, far and wide.
Aww snap!! This brings back high school memories, have seen them a bunch including the reunion tour in 03 with Iron Maiden and Motorhead😎
Yes yes yes! Black Sabbath OG !!
Black Sabbath "The Wizard" Please!
INTO THE VOID
Black Sabbath may be the first heavy metal band, but the 1968 song "In A Godda Da Vita" by Iron Butterfly is usually considered to be the first heavy metal song. There are lots of chunky riffs in that song.
Reefs are fire 🔥 love the beat ozzy God of darkness!!
Sabbath was the first band where the name heavy metal was used. Tony also lost finger tips when he was younger.

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Ronnie James Dio was the singer seen them in person at this concert i was 16 it was great
Oh yeah & that pic with the house is the cover on their first album .
First band that Ozzy was in went by the name of " EARTH " . They try to be a blues band , and were big fans of CREAM , Hendrix & blues. While in the band EARTH , you can already hear them building that Sabbath sound that they're known for .
Then it was the Pulka Tulk Blues Band
Tony had distorted riffs because of accidentally cutting off 2 fingers and wearing plastic on those 2 fingers and the strings being different. He feels the strings differently which makes that distorted sound.
Heavy Metal sounds came from working class factories in England which also influened the sound Black Sabbath. That and scary music. Ozzy figured if people loved horror movies, they would like horror/scary music as well.
I think Ozzy's first band was called Rare Breed with Geezer Butler. Tony Iommi was in a band called Mythology with Bill Ward.
@@scottlefaivre2446 I think you're confusing Wicked World and Sleeping Village
A National Acrobat
Happy birhtday Mr.Hollywood 💖✌🤘🖤
"Let's hope this is reality"
Actually, it is Master Of Reality
I love you guys! More Ozzy and Sabbath for SURE!!! :D
I grew up on this since I was born because of my sister
The conversation at the end makes me think y'all were into a little sweet leaf yourselves. LOL.
