The album was “And Justice For All”, came out in ‘88. Hence the album art showing lady justice broken. Blackened was the first song on the album and was written by Jason Newsted. This was his “first” album with Metallica as the new bassist after Cliff Burton died

There may not be any Hetfield "yeeaaahh!"s on the studio version but in concert I'm sure its peppered with them. ...Justice is my favorite album from them, lots of hidden gems on there. It's a cold, bleak, dry album that was "oddly" engineered but features some of the most complex song structures they'll ever write, which is what speaks to me.

I started listening to Metallica when Ride the Lightning came out, but I consider "And Justice For All," to be "my" Metallica album, if that makes sense. I think there's only one song on the album I don't like, but the rest of it...chef's kiss. I also got to see it front row, just left of center on the opening night of the tour. Jason Newstead handed me a beer in a solo cup from the stage. I think I had just turned 17. So good.

'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' has the second best YEAH in their catalog (at least to me- 'Fuel' is first). There's also some 'Yeahs' in songs like 'Helpless' and 'Four Horsemen'. But you are right, the bulk of 'yeahs' didn't happen until the 90s. i think 'Load/ReLoad' has more 'yeahs', making up for the whole catalog!

My 1st time seeing Metallica was on the Monsters of Rock tour. Kingdom Come ,Dokken , Metallica , The Scorpions and Van Halen . You can ask anyone who saw that tour that it was Metallica's message to the world that they had arrived and in the mood to kick every ass they saw. They blew every band on the bill off the stage. This song was the preview to the new album that wasn't released yet. My friends and I looked at each other and said well if the rest of the album is like this we are in for a major ass kicking . We weren't disappointed . And Justice For All was probably the last true Metallica thrash album as The Black album only had moments of thrash.

I'm an old school Metallica fan. This is when Metallica was great. No disrespect to them in anyway. I still believe Metallica is a perfect entry level bend for those who don't listen to metal. My buddy who only listened to rap started listening to them and now he loves mainstream metal. It's a start lol. Thrash, nu, and industrial are still my absolute favorite genres of metal. Doom and black metal are the two genres I can listen to but I just can't get into. Also Lars isn't a strong drummer but he works perfect for Metallicas style. He's more of a pace keeper for the band.

Thrash metal at its finest, and best Metallica album. 7:54 one of my favorite riffs ever

This is the 1st song I ever heard that's heavier than Swingin' or Elvira. I was 15, saw the pic on a kid's shirt, cut grass, bought album, pushed play. Headbanger ever since. Cliff was the best. Metallica was best when they had Cliff, imo.

James has more of a tendency to throw in a YEAH in a live show than in studio fellas just an FYI
BLACKENED = And Justice For All Album
It’s also the name of their whiskey, which I highly suggest you guys try it’s damn good

The trademark of ...And Justice For All is an almost inhuman darkness, the riffs like steely bars full of spite, sorrow and anger. This is where Metallica was after the death of Cliff. This album is the first technical thrash album ever, with mathematical precision. No emotion, just heavy mathematically precise riffs. People say they don't like the mix on this album but I beg to differ. The clinical coldness is perfect!

The ya's started during the Black Album. Bob Rock, who was their producer at the times, wanted James to emphasize more while he sang. A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica will show the progress of this. During the recording of Enter Sandman, James uses the line "Woman" instead of Ya as a mock to what Bob Rock wanted him to do

@@amr4336 the major problem with the black album is as follows...
The band from the beginning swore up and down that they would NEVER be known as a commercial band and HATED any and all who were apart of it. This was why so many fans can't stand the black album because it is when they did go commercial and the fans like myself, from the beginning, felt betrayed in a way. They also said that they would never make a music video for any of their songs because it wasn't yeh way music should be lived, enjoyed, listened to. Low and behold, this album launched their first ever music video. Soooo fans prior to the black album lost all faith I'd you will in the band and didn't believe in the music anymore.

@@stevecoronado1103 I understand that but Black album is still a good album. Yes, it wasn’t thrash but it was still quite good but it helped metal gain more fans . I also understand why some fans were angry with them when they released the music video for One and whatever they did after the black album but them going mainstream was going to happen in one way or the other . Songs like Fade to black were the early signs that Metallica is not going to be Slayer who mostly remained the same .

I highly recommend listening to the "and justice for Jason" version of this album. A guy redid the bass lines and mixed it into the original album. (This was done because Jason's bass was turned ultra low on this album because lars is a douche)

As a (West)Berlin born human I can say for a fact that at the time the song was written the nuclear threat was not only real but also subject in many songs of that time. Not only Metallica ones.
But I never heard of that album "Blackened" 😁 I heard this song on "And justice for all". Funfact: It has the same cover as your "Blackened" album 🤣

I saw a interview with Kirk where he talks about sometimes he’ll forget how to play the old songs and he’ll have to have somebody download a lesson as a reminder to him how he played it all these years.
