I always interpreted that born in winter referred to life starting in the bitter cold of the vacuum of space. Especially with the Big Bang reference. And of course also referred to the harsh struggles and suffering of life. I always felt this song carried the spirit or “essence” of the will to live. Even before reading the lyrics and understanding context just the initial reaction to the sound of this song grabs you and you feel it in your soul. At least that was my experience.
Gotta say ive been listening to gojira since 2005, one of my absolute favorites, and watching yall experience it brings me back to the feeling i had first hearing them. It brings me genuine joy seeing you both enjoy it. Much love

Hey Ryan and Georges. I enjoy a lot your reactions. I'm a 47 years old metal fan (but not just metal 😉)and it's always a pleasure to see you discover new stuff. For this song I really would like to be able to hear it for the first time again. I'm French and it's a shame to see how underrated Gojira aree in their own country. I'll see them next month, can't wait 🤘. Greetings guys, keep it up.
Seems very weird, but my best friend since first grade, Billy, showed me this song and I fell in love with the band IMMEDIATELY. Then I got into the band and was at a loss for words. It’s such a weird song to get into them with but it happened and I do not regret it for a millisecond. Gojira needs to go back to the OG ways such as The Link/pre-2010 Gojira.
This was a first spin for me from Gojira and I loved it. Ryans reaction was how I was feelin haha. Think you guys would dig After The Burial-Pennyweight. Theres even a drum playthrough thats vocal less that I would be curious if George likes more or less than the original. Have a good one guys!
This is the song that really opened my eyes to Gojira, it led to loving the whole album and in a short space of time their whole catalogue. just such a wonderfully constructed song.
Red rock amphitheater is the outside venue in Colorado. Its designed to reverb perfectly so that at talk volume you can hear clearly at the very top/back
Y'all are 100% right on Red Rocks - the best outdoor venue around. They renamed the previous "Best Outdoor Venue" award to the "Red Rocks" award because Red Rocks won every year running. I saw Gojira and Opeth there a few years ago and it was incredible. I normally have a strong preference for small venues since that's what I grew up seeing metal bands in and playing in myself, but Red Rocks is my one exception. I've never seen a bad show there.
Probably my favorite overall song from them. It’s so emotional but in a downplayed way. It also reminds of the Viking show intro (singing style). The singing is very hypnotic.
I learned this on guitar and let me tell you! They are innovative as hell! Tapping is nothing new since EVH made it popular but the way they implement it by tapping octaves to create this echo effect is hypnotizing! Love it!
Gojira never disappoints. I've been listening to them for 20 years now, as a french metal lover i was lucky enough to see them live dozen times, in fact they are the band i've seen the most in concert. I'm glad they became one of the top tier band worldwide now, they really deserved it. Also very cool guys, i remember cheering a beer with Christian few weeks after they opened for Metallica back in 2012 and he told us that for them it was beyond their dreams to play on the same stage, while having sparkles in his eyes. For all of new the Gojira listeners reading me: you should definitly dig into their old stuffs, the first albums were ahead of their time! More dirty and complex with some Morbid Angel vibes and some crazy pockets of groove! Still on my playlist on a regular basis , for eternity.
I loved when you mentioned "EVOLUTION." That comment made so much sense... They are EnviroMetal! The way the Embrace Tribal Sounds with the most technical and Groovy shit!!!
One of my absolute favourite songs of all time. Wish there was a much longer version, and I wish they wrote more songs in this style Also, the venue discussed in the video is Red Rocks Amphitheater. Trust me, if there's someone there that you want to see, it's worth the ticket price

They have to do “Clone”. That song is insane and from their raw first album. One of Gojira’s best. LETS GET THEM TO DO IT.
Space time is my fave from that album. Clone is amazing as well.
This is the song that got me into Gojira. And still my favorite from them. It's totally unique and flows so naturally.
Thanks for posting this!
Yeah guys, I'm so happy you did Born in Winter, it's one of my favorite Gojira songs, I would call it "their ballad". There is an official video for this song, it's very nice! So rich in emotions, so calm yet intense and explosive. Love it, and loved your reaction
Gojira is intelligent and well crafted, embraced by spontaneity and honesty.
This was the first Gojira song I'd ever heard, and was my gateway into their music. Awesome to see you guys finally review it! :D
It’s been a real pleasure to see you guys grow into GOJIRA fans 🤘🏽🤘🏽 Rock on!
FINALLY! My favorite Gojira song!
Hilarious. My life long friend Billy has gotten me into a massive array of post hardcore and metal lol.
This was a first spin for me from Gojira and I loved it. Ryans reaction was how I was feelin haha. Think you guys would dig After The Burial-Pennyweight. Theres even a drum playthrough thats vocal less that I would be curious if George likes more or less than the original. Have a good one guys!
This is the song that introduced me to one of my favourite bands, guys. So amazing.
I still remember the first time I heard this song- GD it blew me away and left me in awe
Amazing choice, and another amazing reaction experience. Please consider "a sight to behold" to keep exploring Gojira's creativity.
This is the song that really opened my eyes to Gojira, it led to loving the whole album and in a short space of time their whole catalogue. just such a wonderfully constructed song.
Great song and reaction. Definitely a song that l will go back to and l was born in autumn!
Red rock amphitheater is the outside venue in Colorado. Its designed to reverb perfectly so that at talk volume you can hear clearly at the very top/back
Thanks for the reaction, hadn’t heard this before
Love listening to music with you guys... :)
MASTERPIECE
I agree that everything from Gojira is completely organic. They are their own genre of music.
If you guys could do "Pray" live at Red Rocks, that'd be just swell.
I Just saw Gojira along with Deftones at the Greek Theatre in LA, they are an amazing band and definitely deserve to be in the limelight
You guys should definitely listen to Vacuity or Oroborous. Both these tracks rip.
Good shout, Vacuity is what got me in to them 👍
Yes to both. Either studio or live is fine with both.
VACUITY
Y'all are 100% right on Red Rocks - the best outdoor venue around. They renamed the previous "Best Outdoor Venue" award to the "Red Rocks" award because Red Rocks won every year running.
I saw Gojira and Opeth there a few years ago and it was incredible. I normally have a strong preference for small venues since that's what I grew up seeing metal bands in and playing in myself, but Red Rocks is my one exception. I've never seen a bad show there.
Gojira is just straight up BADASS...PERIOD
Probably my favorite overall song from them. It’s so emotional but in a downplayed way. It also reminds of the Viking show intro (singing style). The singing is very hypnotic.
I learned this on guitar and let me tell you! They are innovative as hell! Tapping is nothing new since EVH made it popular but the way they implement it by tapping octaves to create this echo effect is hypnotizing! Love it!
This is by far my favorite Gojira track for my own personal taste. Such an amazing track.
Gotta get some old Gojira in the mix. REMEBRANCE
that song rips soo hard
The Link Alive version. They will lose their s.
The Link Alive is one of the greatest live Metal performances of all time. No debate.
Wish there was a much longer version, and I wish they wrote more songs in this style
Also, the venue discussed in the video is Red Rocks Amphitheater. Trust me, if there's someone there that you want to see, it's worth the ticket price
