I mean it could be OP if by example his abilities inflicts stress and that the more they are stressed, the more their dodge chance is lowered because they are so stressed out it makes them having a hard time to dodge the more stressed they are but could be kinda OP tbh.
Bringing 2 of these guys and using run n gun is absolutely devastating My slayers were tweedle dum and Dee and they were inseparable, locking arms and spinning in a pinwheel of death throughout the entire dungeon
3:37 That backstory for the Slayer actually has an additional element in common with Doom. At least in the two newest games, we learn that the demonic invasion wasn't the result of a company dabbling in science that accidentally opened a gateway to hell. Rather, it was the result of the company discovering that there was a functionally-unlimited and absurdly high-yield energy source in hell, and they desperately wanted to exploit it. And, for a while, it was a phenomenal success that fueled meteoric rises in science and technology...right up until something went horribly, horribly wrong.
the ever changing of positions is actually accuarate, since in every doom game you have to move a lot to avoid enemy attacks, thus explaining his need to shuffle a lot.
He's pretty fun to play with his crimson court trinket which doubles dmg dealing and dmg received. You can oneshot most of size 1 enemy, but that 20 dmg crit from tempting goblet - the skeleton just crushed his face with a glass of wine!
I’ve been running the Slayer exclusively with his Crimson Court trinkets, and it is fucking orgasmic to blow away the entire enemy frontline with a Run & Gun and obliterate bosses with Bound For Glory. Shame if he takes two or three attacks, he’s done for. And you can’t guard him with the trinkets on.

I feel this guy would work wonders with the Fawn, Hood or Shieldbreaker, all of them being classes that can shuffle easily between rows without significant drawbacks.

It took me ten seconds loading the video and staring at the tumbnail to realise the homage here. Very well done. I do feel like the BFG should be tweaked to hit all foes, so it fits more with the source material. Plus it’s a big old laser, should just wipe through the team.
I mean, it can either do ridiculous damage or hit all party members. Darkest dungeon is balanced different than doom being able to room clear with a single attack isn't really a good idea.
I think slayer as a second fiddle to a mark team could prove to be quite effective. His debuff can be devastating on low prot enemies, multiplying the already big damage of mark profiting attacks. Stuns, pulls and prot shred are already available in base game mark teams, but the main thing i bring slayer for is the fact he has a lot of health. He is very survivable. Other heroes seem more feast or famine, they are excellent until they die in one turn. Slayers bulk smoothes out the curve from "doing fine" to "more dust. more ashes. more disappointment."
This game will never get old in my eyes I just hope it gets another huge expansion one day to keep the games heart pumping, good work keeping the players together man
Just a little quarrel of mine, but I think it would be better perspective wise to have the reviewed class shown at lvl 0 or lvl 6. Either show off the max or min of the class. Might just be me though. Love ya
I've been playing the Slayer for a while, and I've got a few tips: -Despite the power of *B*ound *F*or *G*lory, you don't necessarily need to have it in your kit. When ramped up and planned accordingly, yes, it can make for a big hit- but the damage received drawback can prove to be more trouble than it's worth, such as in the Farmstead where battles can last 15+ turns at a time; or in the Darkest Dungeon itself where enemy groups are frequently big and hit hard for significant bleeds; and don't even get me started on the Courtyard. Additionally, it can be hard to effectively ramp up the effectiveness of it when you want to use it against a boss if you also want/need to camp before facing it, and even then, some of of 'em won't make it easy. The Hag will likely chuck you into her pot, or you may need to waste the shot to save someone else; the Siren will likely Charm you; and the Drowned Crew will target you for magical drowning; the Brigand Pounder's armour outright blocks a chunk of damage; and while it can hit the Flesh hard, it can give itself decent chunk heals depending on its forms; and while you may know where the Courtyard bosses will be if you have a map, given the size of CC maps, how dangerous the enemies are, and how challenging and demanding the bosses are, I can't really say it's worth it. Really, it'd be most useful against the Prophet or the Necromancers. -The Slayer is a decent damage dealer on its own, but you don't need to rely on it as a primary damage dealer like you would a Highwayman, Barbarian, Leper, etc. Run and Gun is effective at dealing damage, and when paired with Reeling Reload, it can be used relatively frequently- but that messes with your party positioning, and that's two skill slots taken up just to regularly hit hard. Don't underestimate how useful it is as a supporting class. PROT reduction, increasing enemy damage received, stuns, mark synergy- it can be an effective team player. -Rip and Tear's healing and stresshealing also happens when used against corpses. This can be handy for those long treks in the Courtyard or Farmstead, or if you don't have any enemies in your range.
I heard about this class & seen someone talk about it but I like to hear your thoughts & explanation of the class. And I appreciate you explaining the skill & then demonstrating it in action. Thats very neat :,3
Two concepts for character classes, one of which is really just wild and probably would never work for a number of reasons: 1. An animal companion themed transformation class that utilizes some sort of mutating creature 2. Some form of class that actually gets bigger (takes up a second slot) and gets large buffs when another companion falls. Obviously this is the one that probably wouldn't work well, because for one I don't think it's even possible for a character to take up more than one slot on the player's team, but two because it relies on you permanently losing a character. (Or at least until you get the revival event)
Great video, just wanted to point out for future use that 'sabot' is a french word and as such the 't' isn't pronounced. Instead it would be just 'sabo'. Also useful if you end up talking about modern armored warfare I suppose.
The Slayer was one of my first modded classes; the very first modded class- that I used in my modded run. It was very easy to decide what attacks I wanted to use and made a very fluid set that worked well with just about any team composition I created (currently my favorite is Occultist, Jester, Slayer and Flagellant) the way it could cleave apprentice level bosses/enemies in nearly any environment/dungeon was invaluable to me.
Though I never used BFG after my first time in the cove where my first Slayer almost died (same one ended up dying to riposte against a sleeping herald during my first fight against the Miller, which I unfortunately lost and have never went back to since 😅.) Only downside I noticed during (my play through with it and my decisions regarding how I used the class) was that due to my team comp (look in the first post) heavily relied on the slayer to well, slay/weaken the enemies so my weaker heroes (flagellant Jester Occultist) can do heavy damage. A majority of my encounters were dealt with in a very extreme and aggressive manner, highly offensive ‘get rid of them as swiftly and efficiently as possible’ tactic. I needed to make sure my team was able to sustain itself and keep itself fast, powerful and virtually stress/bleed/blight/etc free.
Run and Gun was useful for clearing out any Webbers/Skeletons/maggots/etc. anything that could be taken care of with ease. Due to the lack of range I had to focus primarily on reaching the back line does with my flagellant and occultist (especially if these enemies could cause stress, can’t have those guys lingering around for too long) whether it was in the Ruins or The Weald, getting rid of the back line enemies were important. Biting Blade was great for lowering the prot of the enemies in the Cove/Weald. Since once again, my other three heroes had fairly weak damage outputs, my second strongest being the Occultist. I wasn’t a big fan of Reeling Reload. It was good for getting the slayer back into P2 (where I usually had it) after using Run n Gun, and keeping my jester out of harms way (depending on the dungeon I would have my Jester in P3 to help spread bleed using its attack that hits ranks 2 and 3 on the enemies side.)
Rip n Tear was useful because of Healing/Stress heals. So I was thankful for that when I unlocked it. Spiked Sabbot was useful for stalling out the enemy but I never found too much use for it outside of that, the knock back was helpful as well. Especially if I needed to reach a certain backline enemy. The move that marks enemies is great for Musketeers and Arbalest (any heroes that capitalizes on marks, honestly) and allowed them to finish their opponents off swiftly.
Speed was one of the bigger downsides as any negative quirks affecting speed could make the (my) slayer fairly weak and useless, often waiting an extra round for it to finally make its move. Thankfully, my jester was there to boost speed for the entire party. That’s basically it lmao, I really like this class and its made my DD experience very- hmm I’d like to say ‘easy’ but I feel like that would be debatable depending on others’ experiences with the class. As soon as I used the Slayer however, I didn’t have *too* many problems with figuring out which position it should be in and how it should be used, which move sets work the best, etc. It works alright-ish with the Riftwatcher and Good Girl (which are two other modded classes I used). Sooo yeah. Just felt like I needed to rant to myself about how cool the class was since it’s a personal favorite of mine. And both these reviews (this one and another by someone else who I no longer remember the name of) really helped me get a better grasp on how I should probably use the class.
This character's biggest drawback other than speed is that it lacks backline damage outside of BFG, and while powerful, BFG's debuffs and self damage are really, really problematic if you don't have something to Guard him, even if you spam the self heal. Other than that, total powerhouse
Great review I hope you consider doing s-purple Omen seeker and you should look into his newest one called the countess he's also currently working on a like boss 4 darkest dungeon as well
The appearance gave me a more Warhammer feeling to me at first admittedly. Like there's no way you can blame for thinking he looks like he belongs in the Death Korps of Krieg, right?
"A Warrior who's wholly good Warrior who's wholly evil Made of clay both good and bad Don't know what is less Who fight with evil for good Who fight with good for evil Who fight with evil for good Who fight with good for evil" Now I want to create my own DD modded class, or two. but I doubt I will manage alone... Maybe I could pass my ideas to the forum?
I play him without BFG but thats because I have the double damage CC trinket so the self-damage+debuff feelslike a huge liability. That decent health pool drops fast when you deal 21 self-damage.
What I did with the character was I completely ignored the Bound for Glory and focused on two of his main damage abilities and that one trinket that only Slayer can use. I can't remember the name of the trinket but it gave "+100% Damage Increase, +100% Damage Recieved, Cannot be guarded and increased the healing recieved". I put Slayer in a party with Witch Doctor and Occultist (or Vestal), buffing and healing the Slayer endlessly and watched as Slayer took away almost half of the bosses health with only one usage of "Biting Blade" (Also using his tag ability for damage take nerf).
It’s a great design and idea, but Darkest Dungeon is the opposite of a power fantasy and Doom is a power fantasy at it’s core so I can imagine him being much to overpowered for a game like this
The +100% damage received from the BFG is all damage not just from the potential 7% from using the BFG, correct? Can you use herbs to get rid of the debuff, or since it is a self inflicted debuff no? I understand that DD is kinda old and it appears to that you are no longer doing any reviews of the game, but I am wondering if you could make some Team of The Week videos with mods either all mod teams or mods with vanilla characters. YES, I watch Shuffle and yes he has that, but stopped and never did any with mods. Can all the mods, (except for those that Claire removed) be found on Steam? Thanks for doing these, I find them really helpful. I think I have said that before, but it is worth saying again.
Did anyone else never make the connection of “Bound for Glory” having the same initials as the BFG until watching this? That one little detail makes the character all that more awesome.
What would be a good team set up for slayer ? Im thinking thral, slayer, arbalist, and a healer ? Or cataphract, slayer, snake chamer and range attacker?

Who fight with evil for good
Who fight with good for evil
Who fight with evil for good
Who fight with good for evil"
Now I want to create my own DD modded class, or two.
but I doubt I will manage alone... Maybe I could pass my ideas to the forum?
awsome!
im going to install this when I get home.
you know what?
june's voice and kratos' god of war 4 voice really makes a man feel manly... same goes for morgan freeman's voice...
Crusader, Slayer, Slayer.
Three man party. Endless shotgun percussion!
“They are Rage. Brutal. Without Mercy. But You?….You Will be Worse. Rip & Tear. Until it is Done!”
PURGING WITH MY KIN!
Rip and Tear, Sunny Jim. Rip and Tear!!!
Actually, Doomguy is canonically recognized as William Joseph Blazcowitz III; descendent of Commander Keen and BJ Blazcowitz.
Doom - comes with free lifetime supply of strawberry jam.
Technology that brought hell on earth, doesn't sound far off from reality to be honest
Great videos I really like the idea of explaining the mods, thank you
E5 I MISS U REEEEEE
There will be justice for Daisy.
The slayer is doomguy ancestor and you cant change my mind also Miss omen seeker next
I'd actually like to watch more gameplay of the Slayer. Do you know of any videos on UA-cam that contain him? I searched but can't seem to find any.
The Pickelhaube sells it
One thing that I have been curious about are the names of the max level equipment for the modded classes.
I see the Kerberos Panzer Cops influence in this character.
It's a shame the developers didn't make these characters themselves. I would have loved to use them in the Vita version.
*BFG division slowly fading in*
THE GROUND QUAKES
I just noticed that the BFG fires from two Shambler mouths.
1st time watching one your videos.........DOES NOT DISSAPOINT!!!!
It’s a great design and idea, but Darkest Dungeon is the opposite of a power fantasy and Doom is a power fantasy at it’s core so I can imagine him being much to overpowered for a game like this
finnaly a use for medicinal herbs
The Boom-Boom Man
The +100% damage received from the BFG is all damage not just from the potential 7% from using the BFG, correct? Can you use herbs to get rid of the debuff, or since it is a self inflicted debuff no?
I understand that DD is kinda old and it appears to that you are no longer doing any reviews of the game, but I am wondering if you could make some Team of The Week videos with mods either all mod teams or mods with vanilla characters. YES, I watch Shuffle and yes he has that, but stopped and never did any with mods. Can all the mods, (except for those that Claire removed) be found on Steam?
Thanks for doing these, I find them really helpful. I think I have said that before, but it is worth saying again.
Holy Jin Rih that's metal
*BFG Division plays in the distance*
I used to thought this guy is in the war hammer 40000
You should cover the class mod Daughters of the Four!!
Did anyone else never make the connection of “Bound for Glory” having the same initials as the BFG until watching this? That one little detail makes the character all that more awesome.
Can the debuff that BFG gives the Slayer be removed by herbs(?) or some other item you can buy/find?
I'm loving these mods
What would be a good team set up for slayer ? Im thinking thral, slayer, arbalist, and a healer ? Or cataphract, slayer, snake chamer and range attacker?
