I used to cut the biscuits into quarters , fry and drain them and put sugar and cinnamon in a brown lunch bag. Gave my children each a bag and had them shake the bag. They love it. " Poor Man's Donuts " , that's what we called. Whenever money was tight, those fried pieces of dough made tough times tolerable for my children and me. Even now my adult children still loves and yearns for them.

My Foster Mom would do this in the 70's. She took the small biscuit tube and when opened she took a bottle cap to make the hole. Then deep fry them in oil and the donut holes. Didn't drain the oil but put them in a paper lunch bag and shake them with cinnamon and I. For chocolate frosting she took powdered sugar and chocolate syrup to make frosting.

My Mom used to make us fry pies using biscuit dough. She heated chunky applesauce with some cinnamon and nutmeg. She would flatten each biscuit into a large circle. Fill the center with a tbsp of the apple filling and fold in half. Pinch sides together and fry. So yummy!

In college in the late 70s, my sorority raised money by making and selling biscuit donuts. This was before Grands were on the market so we would buy any frozen biscuits to use. We used a Fry Daddy then use powdered and regular sugar to coat them or spread chocolate icing on them. Trust me, we made money every time!

Oh this brings back so many memories! My mama used to make doughnut biscuits - which I very quickly learned to do for myself - because they were so good! She never got fancy with almond extract or lemon - she just did the basic glaze or usually, just the cinnamon/sugar mixture! But I love them to this day! I am going to try the jelly filled ones next, because I love raspberry-filled jelly donuts! And I will add the powdered sugar glaze!! Thanks so much for this video, as well as the tip for freezing any left-over dough! PS I never measure either LOL

You were talking about the jelly filled donuts. The cake decorating sets usually have a long tube shaped tip that comes with them. You can also use those to fill the donuts and donut holes. For the ones with cinnamon and sugar, you could also use the ready made Philadelphia Cheesecake filling to fill them. Just insert a wooden spoon handle first to make a cavity for the filling, then insert the decorating tip into the cavities so that you can fill them with the cheesecake filling. Then you can do the cinnamon sugar, chocolate icing or regular glaze. They will be as good as any donut shop. For fillings you are as limited as your imagination. Have fun and enjoy your tasty treats.

Same prep/cooking/glaze methods just add maple extract, and if you wanna get gamma phi gamma bougie throw some bacon on top. Thanks for this I'm doing twists and jelly filled this weekend and they won't know what hit 'em!

I use the cap from my milk jug as a donut hole maker in the biscuit. I'm not a big fan of jelly donuts so that won't interest me. I do like the cream filled like the Hostess Twinkie has in it. I just squirt canned Dream Whip into them and it's wonderful. I also just use straight powder sugar mixed with nothing else and put on donuts. I do the glaze ones also and add Orange juice to the powder sugar and make an Orange glaze. Do the same using Strawberry soda pop. If course you can just by cake icings in various flavors at the store. Hershey's makes a great milk chocolate canned icing on the shelf at the store. I use metal tongs to flip my donut concoctions with in the hot oil. That way you are certain to flip them. If you like nuts add crushed ones to your glaze and dip the donuts in them. I'm 72 and been making canned biscuit donuts since I was a child in the 1950s with my mother.

Yes I have when the children were young and just wanted enough for them. We would do filled one and maple bars. I use to be a dryer in the 70s and know how to make REAL doughnuts but their dad wouldn't allow them in the house so while at work I could make just enough to be gone by the time he got home. We would put jelly in them and cinnamon twists with a simple glaze. Alot of fun for children to do too. They can make the shape they like. They now have their own children and have done the same with them.😊🎄👵from rural Alaska. Happy Holidays to all.

This reminds me of the old days...lol. My mom would make us donuts and the donut holes from biscuits. She used regular biscuit roll, nothing fancy. She used an old glass salt shaker bottle to punch out holes then as I got old enough she would let me do it. She fried them and quickly dumped them into a cinnamon sugar mix. I have made them for my boys when they were little and tried again not too long ago. I will try again with the flakey biscuits, so thank you so much!

I had heard of this method of making donuts but never actually seen it...THANK YOU. I am a big donut fan from way back but never made them myself, just "assisted" other people. Darling, my mouth is watering watching you glaze those donuts, I can't wait to try this.

We always make these and we just make a hole in the center of the biscuit with our fingers and we use store-bought frosting both chocolate and vanilla, delicious

You can use a soda bottle cap as well to make holes. Fried the entire biscuit and rolled in sugar. Left some like that or filled some with red jelly.

I learned this from a Chinese restaurant lol. Lady seen i was pregnant & held up her finger & said, "Hold on. I have treat for you! Just 1 minute." She whispered to someone & a few minutes later brought me a bag & said, "Here you go! Sweet rolls for you! You will love, you will love." She was right! I qas constantly buying them after that. Eventually she told me how they were made & I was like no way! Been making them 20 yrs now. Never met anyone else who knew about these until just now with your video & all the commenters who do as well. ❤ Guess what I'm about to go make now lol!
