I am a sucker for a classic butter cookie. My mother used to make thee best butter cookies. I miss them, and I really miss her. I found her butter cookie recipe just a couple of months ago and now that the holidays are upon us, I think I'll be teaching my children how to make her cookies. Thanks for this reminder.
My mother used to roll out the dough and cut is shapes. Can only roll the dough our 3 times before it gets too tough though, so pick your shape and cut wisely. A cookie press can be used too, but not straight from the fridge, needs to warm up a bit.
I think most cookies benefit from some time in the fridge before baking. I like to refrigerate cookie dough at least an hour myself, but I have heard longer can be even better flavor-wise.
This is not a new recipe at all, but is many many decades old. I've been baking these since I first learned to bake back in the early 1970's , when my kids were very young. I'm 72 now, and still make them for holidays. Thanks for the memories!
I just made these, I'm on my second cookie and these are fantastic. They are basically a shortbread. This will be my go to from now on. So easy and came out perfectly, just the way I like shortbread to be. Thankyou!
She didn't add those to keep the size and shape intact. Adding those will make them become larger. Which then makes them NOT butter cookies. Butter cookies are shaped exactly like this
I've made shortbread cookies for decades---what these actually are---and have never bothered with the slicing method. I pat the dough out into a pan, score it into whatever shape(s) I want, and bake them. Much easier, doesn't require refrigeration, and minimal effort. I also have spinal arthritis, so can't stand for very long, and have had to learn to make things work without all the unnecessary steps.

Love these. Been mixing them up to have on hand during the holidays. Except I add flavoring extract (almond, mint...) so it seems like I made a bunch of different cookies.😉
Good heavens! I've made very few things from scratch. Only mashed potatoes, which I've gotten really good at, and a carrot cake that I made only 2 days ago for the first time 😬 My husband is eating it, bless him. But this 3 ingredient recipe seems super easy, I can't wait to try it!
I hope there are no lumps in your mashed potatoes. Want to get them smooth and fluffy? First, NO GARLIC (yuck), second butter and milk, third use an electric hand mixer and mix them AFTER you mashed them first by hand with a hand masher.
My Scottish mom’s recipe was also just butter, sugar and flour….but used brown sugar instead of icing sugar. Lovely flavour. And a bit of maraschino cherry in the middle of some.
Made these today following the recipe & steps exactly. Cut the dough pretty close to 1/2 inch thick. Thinking that might be too much, the vid looks like 1/4 or 5/16ths maybe. Mine came out super dry, like suck all the moisture out of you right now, dry and didn’t seem to be just a touch under baked in the centers. Good easy recipe tho! Gonna revisit this one.
Basically the same as the shortbread, but with the addition of various extracts (almond is a favourite) it's a holiday cookie year round! Cuppa tea or coffee and we're all set.😁
Ok, this is such an aesthetically pleasing video! I can’t lie, I did pause a few times to see if the buzzing was coming from my wall lol, but after rewinding a few times, I know now that it’s the video lol 😂 THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! I will be making these to share! 😊

Corn starch will make it crunchy, and it adds a lot more carbs!
