UA-cam recommended me this video today and I was so surprised because my grandpa passed last week and this was his very favorite cereal! We used to eat these together when I stayed at my grandparent’s home when I was little 🥹 Thank you for reminding me of that, I’ll have to give these a try!! ☺️
Watched this video last night and my husband was like “so are we going to the store now?” Baking it currently. My preliminary testing tells me it’s going to be AMAZING.
Even on recipes that call for unsalted butter, I’ve never found that a little extra salt from salted butter made a dish worse. If anything, it makes it better. I once heard that the difference between home cooks and professional chefs is the amount of butter and salt they use. Humans love salt and butter, even though we know it’s unhealthy, but we don’t see into the kitchen just how much they are using.
Some times a recipe will call for unsalted and the only time they are correct is when frying in a high heat skillet, the salted butter can turn brown & burn much easier than salted butter.

Before they made carmel pop corn, this is how WE made carmel pop corn. Except minus the butter. If we had used the butter, we would have been in trouble. Especially THAT much butter. 😮Tat being said. this has too much sugar for me to think about making it. ☹

Just a tip. Before adding the caramel sauce, put the cereal in the oven so its nice and toasty. That way, the initial mixing is so much more thorough and easier.

Small bowls of Corn Pops. They get soggy fast. I'm the type if guy who eats two small bowls of cereal instead of one big bowl because I don't like my cereal to get too soggy.
Made a half recipe with a 13.1 Oz box everything halved, after it was off heat I added a 1/2 tsp salt with the baking soda and flavoring, used butter flavored maple syrup (instead of dark karo)and maple flavoring, it works it's delicious thanks for the recipe!!!!
I used to make caramel corn this way but I gotta admit the older I get the more problematic pop corn is.. I never thought of using Corn Pops ❤ I’ll definitely try this ❤

My wife makes a similar recipe with corn flakes, karo syrup and peanut butter. After mixing the mixture in the cornflakes she makes balls of it and lets it cool. Chewy and crunchy at the same time.
I've made this twice already. Once for Halloween, and now for football Sunday. I make a full batch of the coating, and pour half on Sugar Pops (yes, I'm old school), and in another pan, half on Chester Corn puffs. I follow the recipe the same for both. Some like the sweet of the cereal, some like the salty puffs. Either way it's yummy. Next, I'm going to try it on the mini tiny Tim pretzels.

I used to make caramel corn at a place in my beach resort town, and it's similar to the recipe we used for the caramel. We used sugar and corn syrup (light). Got that up to temp, added butter, molasses and then baking soda, which would make it turn a creamy, caramel color. Not the same as yours, but similar. I'm going to try this sometime!

Hey Ken, I didn't think about using this cereal...I had used "Kix" cereal before. Gotta try this too, yum!! There are so many different goodies to coat in caramel.😁 Oyster crackers and even the round pretzels are delicious!! The sky is the limit, adding peanuts or any of your favorite nut is amazing too. I do the same with popcorn. You can add peanuts to make Cracker Jacks! Makes great holiday gifts!

There are so many different goodies to coat in caramel.😁 Oyster crackers and even the round pretzels are delicious!! The sky is the limit, adding peanuts or any of your favorite nut is amazing too. When he said it’s addictive I was like “hell yeah, all that sugar it should be addictive lol instantly Reminded me of the scene in house party when peewee was making the koolaid.
