  • This video tackles two common washing machine issues with quick and effective solutions. First, we recovered a nearly new GE washer from the boneyard and replaced its degraded belt, addressing the issue of the washer not spinning. Follow along as we show you how to diagnose and fix this problem. Next, we repaired a customer's Amana washer that wouldn't start the wash cycle due to a defective water inlet valve. Watch step-by-step as we replace the valve body and get the machine working perfectly again. Whether you're a seasoned technician or a DIY enthusiast, these straightforward repairs can save you time and money.

    My pen name is Cal Kasheau. Hey, I'd like to shamelessly promote my literary accomplishments while I have your attention. I have several short story titles you can get on Amazon; the links are below. Some are humorous, some reflect events in my life, and some are legends I heard of as a child in the swamps of Louisiana. They are only a dollar or two, and most are free with a Kindle unlimited membership. I hope you will take the time to read one or two and give me your honest opinion in the comments on whether or not I should continue to pursue a side gig as an author.

    Thank you SO much- great instruction! The project is not as intimidating as I thought it would be' and I saved $$$ by not having to pay someone else to do it.

    Chip, another great video. It seems like a lot of the manufacturers are making their appliances so cheaply and they know that many of them will only last a few years. So many of these new GE gear cases and the Whirlpool VMW gear cases have oil leaks. Job security through planned obsolescence.

      Hey Shane, that’s what it looks like. Someone figured out they could sell more if they design them to break. We had some bad weather here last week. We were out of power for 24 hours. How did ya’ll do down your way? I heard it was bad along I-10.

      @@HarperandKnowles On two different days last week we had some very bad storms. In my area, near Milton, we had a lot of downed trees and tree limbs. A lot of people in this area also lost power but we were fortunate and never lost power last week. I had a few service calls get postponed last week because the customer did not have power.

    I picked up an Amana washer and the guy I got it from said it would not wash or spin out then he told me that he put gear grease on the pulley thinking it would help... And I told him by doing that you didn't make it any better that he only made it worse so after removing the belt guard and cleaning up the pulley and of course replacing the belt and then I went on fixing the problem...

    Since you have a lot of tear downs. Why wouldn’t you put a used valve on there. Or even ohm check the cold side and just replace the broken portion?

      This is a customer’s machine. I only put new parts on customer units unless I’m asked to put a used part on.

    Could be a clogged cold water screen. I've gotten severel with just that simple issue. Just blow out the build up and it's fixed

      @HarperandKnowles Thanks for your videos! Just got a washer today that I thought the transmission was bad because it leaked oil. I usually part them out like that. I cleaned and replaced the belt. Doesn't seem to leak any more. Weird stuff. I do believe they're made to brake tho. Keeps us in business 😅

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  2 місяці тому

      Those GE transmissions have grease in them. I’m not sure where the source of the oil is but I’ve found once you change that belt once it usually stays fixed.
