Beard is gone, so now he can't shave ENOUGH! Soon we're gonna have a mid-day shave on the car ride home. "I've got a bowl of water in my cup holder, a DR Harris shaving stick, a synthetic brush since it doesn't need to soak, and I decided to go with a mild razor in case I hit any of these famous Massachusetts pot holes. I have 11 hours of facial hair growth."
The Rockwell 6S/6C have a blade gap range of 0.38mm to 1.12mm -- which is similar to the Merkur Progress and Parker Variant. The Merkur 34C HD has a blade gap of 0.71mm, so the Rockwell 6S on the 3 plate should be comparable. (The Merkur Futur extends this blade gap with a range of 1.12mm to 1.75mm.) The pre-order price of the 6C is currently $45, but will have a release price of $50. The Rockwell 2C (with only the 1/3 plate) has a pre-order price of $25 and will have a release price of $30 (with no possibility of buying the other plates -- that I've noticed). It would seem the Rockwell 6C/6S, Merkur Progress or Parker Variant adjustable razors would be a much better recommendation as a 'starter razor', than the Merkur 34C HD or Edwin Jagger DE89, since an adjustable razor will grow with your shaving skill, adapt to your beard growth and (despite costing somewhat more) will refrain the need of buying an additional safety razor for a much longer period -- until one has exhausted the extended range of the initial adjustable safety razor.
Excellent reply and thanks for mentioning the actual gap of the different plates and especially comparing it to the Merkur 34c HD. I shaved this with the 6S yesterday with my go-to blade and did start at 3 and noticed it did seem a bit mild to me. I think maybe a setting of 4 could be comparable to the Merkur but still close enough and blade angle is different with both razors. Despite that, I got a real close shave using setting 6 but going ATG on my stache, had to cut that down to 3 and that seemed perfect. So yes I believe this is a better beginner razor than either the 34c or DE89 since there is a lot of room for variation. It is also a better razor even for seasoned shavers since you aren't limited by the razor's fixed blade gap. I prefer this over my Super Speed which is adjustable by turning the knob since I don't like any moving parts. I heard Rockwell is coming out with that version but I don't plan on buying it. We'll see.
Very useful post👍🪒 y like 6C
Where are your comments on the blade?
Great shave, I'd love to hear more about being a doctor as well!
Looks like a cool razor 👍👍💈💈
That is a very cool razor, but Ken has THE best shave den on You Tube!! Thought I would see what others say about the Personna reds, my fave so far...I still want that bottle of English leather on your shelf! lol Cheers Ken!!
How does he manage to wear the same shirt every video?
Maybe he bought a five pack. So maybe it's not the same shirt, maybe just looks the same.
Jack Russo it's his shaving shirt. shaving is its only use.
How about a shaving shirt review then. What is the best shirt to shave in? Five top shirts.
There's also a black one, a grey one, very rarely a salmony red one, and of course my favourite, the white one with a tie printed on, which is used for the more whimsical occasions like his Merkur 37c Slant Safety Razor Review.
True guys
my man nick shaves came through with my request thanks bud
+panchotheaddict420 yeah man! The personna reds were for you! They did great. Going to keep using them for a while
Personna Reds are now my favorites, especially in the Merkur 33C
@@ChrisGarciaorlzzt and they're made in the country I live in which is awesome
Can you review The Blades Grim luxury shaving soap smolder? It is the best shave soap I have ever used.. the marshmallow smell I think you will really like.and it loads up really fast!
Hi Nick. Longtime lurker and fan. I have enjoy your shaving videos as they are informative and professionally done. My comment is on Personna Blades. I tried to use the Med preps, Lab blues, Reds, and others. I find them sharp, but I can only achieve around 6 to 8 passes per blade. That is only 1.5 to 2 shaves for me. Do you find this to be your experience? I do have a stash of 74's to try and I do expect those to last much longer than 2 shaves, but like they say...YMMV. Anyway, keep up the good videos and that was once awesome beard...plus you gave me tips to pass to my son as he is sporting a Van Dyke. Thanks.
Hi Nick. I am considering buying the Rockwell 6S as a first time wet shaver, after using electric foil shavers all my adult life till date. I shave my head and face and jaws, and need your full advice. I want to get fully into wet shaving for a closer and more fulfilling shave experience, and have watched so many reviews on the Rockwell 6s blade. Please advise.
You look a lot like the Marvel Comic book character, "Colossus," from the X-MEN.. May explain why you use so many Russian made blades. Lol
These videos would be a lot shorter if you FF through the shaving part, especially if you’re not giving your impressions while shaving.
Can you discuss aftershaves a bit? What's the deal with alcohol or no alcohol? What makes a good AF in your opinion?
Привет! Сегодня получил самый лучший в мире станок для бритья Rockwell 6S. Я в восторге от его красоты и качества бритья. Жалею что раньше не купил.
That's an awesome razor, Nick! I thought I had an idea on a new razor but this video just threw off that idea.
I used to persona blue and euromax safety razor blades in my crisp safety double-edged razor.
6S plus Feather blade ... ultimate combo.
The only absolute CHAD that shaves with de not gonna lie
Great shave! I agree, the small mirror on the wall would definitely add perspective. Congrats on the new place.
Hi ho Nick. Any irritation or sensitive skin after not shaving for aslong as you did?
nick how long have you owned that blue shirt it's gotta be your trademark. also do u still fly those mini copters you use to post back in the day?
+Herman Pesina I switched my shirt once recently, and people didn't like it! So, I'm sticking with the blue. I haven't flown in about a year, life has me too busy, but I miss it
Hello Nick, I recently went on a razor buying rampage. I bought 2 REX ambassadors, 1 Gillette Fatboy Rhodium Revamp, 1 Gillette Slim Adjustable Rhodium Revamp, 1 Gillette Flare tip Gyromatic NOS and I was wondering if I should buy a Rockwell 6s... I already have a Parker Variant. Do you suggest having a Rockwell when you already have a Parker Variant? I mean, most reviews on youtube say they are exactly the same in terms of aggressiveness and mildness. Your advice is required.
Have you procured anything from Viking Soaps? They are $12 or less for more than 5 oz and are as good a performing soap as Mickey Lee's or B&M. I recommend Citron.
I got the Rockwell razor because of watching videos like this to see if it was worth buying. And it was. I like the 6C so much that I ended up getting me the 6S. I like the presentation box that the 6S came in. 👍🏻👍🏻
You shave 🪒 so fast . I would be bleeding 🩸 every where. If I shave like you. I see you have good technique when your shaving. I been into wet shaving for a while also. But I like to take my time. Because when you get cut you feel it more that a Cartridge razor 🪒 I believe so.
I also have the Rockwell 6S that I use at work. And the 6C I use at home. But I might use the 6C at work. Because I notice it glides more on the face because of the Chrome material that it’s made of. It glides on the face more. But all in all I like both of the razors 🪒
All I can say is, the Rockwell since my purchase shot to the #1 spot immediately. Always a VERY efficient and smooth shave. For daily use, #4 or #5 plate for me is the way to go. It certainly beats $150plus razors all to hell. Muhle R41 would be #1 if I could use that as my daily driver, I don't know many that could do that.
I wonder how the Rockwell 6S handle compares to the ATT Colossus handle ? The price is good on the Rockwell for stainless .
I know it's been awhile but thanks for the videos
Agreed. I subscribed after watching a few only to realise there were no new updates. Shame but great reviews that are still v.accurate.
wet shaving , beard care, grooming, appearance, how to dress, life style, health, etc all fall under the Art of Manliness.. to borrow from Brett McKay.
If I said something that could have been interpreted offensive toward your beard in the past, I apologize!
It was not meant that way of course and I was just joking. I really do not want to give you the feeling that the UA-cam shaving community has become the same filth that you find in the comment section of so many UA-cam channels.
Thank you for your videos and of course I support everything on your channel even though I have not so much interest in topics like straigth razor shaving or beard care.
Nick, I have a stone, an old stone, which was used to put a finishing polish on double edge razor blades. It's a pretty cool design. It has a curve in it and you lay the blade in it and the bevels hit the curve just right. Haven't seen many out in the world.
Good Evening Nick,
I wish you would do a review video on the Lucky Tiger shaving cream and also the Lucky Tiger aftershave. It is American and goes back to the year 1935.. I like Lucky Tiger.
Hey Nick, I noticed you don't usually use the matching splash. Any particular reason why? I found the scent strength of the splash around a 7.
Also thanks for going through the basics in all of your videos. it gives newbies a few tips regardless of which video they watch.
I have sensitive skin, its hard to find the right safety razor for my face. Do you have a safety razor that you'd recommend for me. Thank you!
Ken Lal muhle r41
+Ken Lal I would try the Merkur 34c, it's not the mildest razor out there, but very well balanced. If a razor is too mild, sometimes you need more passes with it. So a medium aggressiveness razor can be the ticket
Look into the Rockwell 6C adjustable razor -- currently for $45. Or maybe consider the Parker Variant (~$57) or Merkur Progress adjustable razors. Yes, these adjustable razors are a little more expensive than the much recommended Merkur 34C HD or Edwin Jagger DE89, but it's like getting several razors in one. They can be made milder (when beginning), but also made more aggressive than those (within reason) as you gain more skill or want to quickly (and comfortably) shave off longer beard growth. Best of luck.
Thank you kindly! I'll try it out!
Thank you kindly! I'll try it out!
I notice you shave up on the right side of your neck due to the pattern of hair growth. Back when you would comb/brush your beard down did you have trouble taming it on that side of your neck? Did it feel strange combing it against the grain?
Geofatboy starts with the most aggressive setting first then lowers the blade gap. Interesting tactic here Nick....thinkin I might pick up some Proraso Green. Have a good one!
Hey Nick. Watching your videos for learning purpose.
I kind of understand you get mostly great shaves... but mostly from NEW blades all the time.
I don't seem to hear you saying your blades are the 2nd, 3rd or more shaves anytime ?
Great video and shave, Nick.
Thank you for listening to my request for you to use B&M 42! I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago. I am very excited about receiving it (end of May/beginning of June). It sounds like an awesome shaving soap and I love the design of the label.
For how long have you had that Proraso Green aftershave? I have never seen you use it before until recently. I really like it. It's very refreshing and classic.
I really enjoy your channel. When are you going to review the Vikings Blade Chieftain and Godfather Safety Razors?
Hey Nick, could you make a review comparing the Nivea Sensitive Skin Shaving Gel vs. the the Nivea Sensitive Skin Shaving Foam, and see if they are as good as the cream from the tube? Thanks
Hi Nick!
Do you think you could do a video with Barrister & Mann Leviathan? I'm really interested in getting it when they release it again in a few months.
Not convinced with the switchable base plate system. Just get a good adjustable razor like the Merkur futur or Mergress.
Hey Nick.. So I would like for you to review the RazoRock Plague Doctor soap.. It just looks and sounds like a cool soap! Love the channel :)
Hi Nick. Have you ever reviewed The Vergulde Hand shaving soap? Very curious to know what you'll think of it.
Thanks for all the great videos.
Awesome video, thanks. Do you have any experience with Dr. Jon's soaps? I just used the Krampus, the soap was great but the soap with the after shave was a totally different experience. I'm wondering about any of their other varieties.
Any tips on how I can better shave the chin area? Tried WTG, ATG, XTG and none works!
Hey nick, what do you think about the van der hagen shave set, for beginners?
Nick i really appreciate the videos! I started wet shaving last year in Sept and it was a mess to say the least. Still broke out a lot! But with your videos and tips here and there, I have finally be able to get a good handle on this and have a clean face again. Keep them going bud!
nick you can do one thing since its an adjustable razor use the 1 setting for your clean up pass and you can go against the grain
Douglas Adams is the author you're thinking of Nick!
Beard looked good but we missed your videos I've watched all of them for the last year plus and I learned a lot from them, so thanks
Order my Rockwell 6C through Kickstarter.
I have the Rockwell razor and I enjoy it
What has been your top slickest soaps to date. I have used Poraso and now soap commander but looking for more slickness.
Eric Taylor TOBS Sandalwood, Fine Santal Absolut, RazoRock The Dead Sea, RazoRock xXx
How do you like the Rockwell 🪒 Razor ?
Another great video Nick. Very informative. Take care.
Have u used merkur futur? i am curious what u think about it
Anyone knows here to get that soap in Europe? :)
49th like and 22nd comment so early lol.
Have one of these persona left I don't like it
Nick, When and what type of shaving soap should we bloom?
It's one of those areas, where YMMV. One man's experience may differ significantly from another's. My rule of thumb is, if it's even slightly soft, I just don't. I think it just softens up the soap even further (for next day's use) and creates a disgusting mush over time. Some people still do it though. The only ones I do bloom, are really hard soaps, like tallow based soap where you otherwise need a pick axe to dig into it. On the first shave after opening a new soap, I don't bloom it. If it takes forever to work the soap, then I bloom it with a little water the next day and consecutively. Now, I never use as much water for blooming as Nick, only a little spoonful that just covers the surface. All it does is moistening the top layer, making it easier to load. Like when you load a little dollop of cream directly into the brush.
HI can you try the LPL apricot soap?
Would love to see you use the blades grim smolder
personna platinum is that good
setting # 5 feels like the EJ89.
My favorite soap. Great choice
how do you store refil soaps?
When you start shaving without a shirt there will be many women who will watch shaving reviews 😀
I bet the bearded ladies are already watching.
@Cindy lou Betris lmao
have tried osage rub?
Nice shave Nick. Thanks.
