Nick: As a physician, this may interest you. Last year I had a difficult surgery, whose post-surgical complications kept me bedridden for four months. Last Christmas was about six weeks into this, at which time I decided to online order an R41 as a selfie gift. I had thought about getting one for some time, but I was mainly interested to see whether I had maintained/recovered enough upper body control to get my laptop connected to the institutional wi-fi, and get to a webpage where I could tap out a razor order. (It was an effort, but eventually successful, & I got a pack of Feathers along with the R41.) Eventually, I recovered more, and decided to get rid of a several months long beard. By that time, I had severe bed head, and the beard was equally wild. I looked like Santa Claus after sticking a finger in an electrical socket. So my first use of the R41 was to take this beard off with a Feather, and happily it was smooth and easy, really a one pass WTG shave, just like shearing a sheep. The R41's a nice razor, and I can't really understand its fearsome reputation. Best wishes for the holidays to you and yours.
Nurses didn't shave you? That's odd.
Got one of the best and most comfortable shaves with this razor and an astra green, love it and do not regret getting it.
Finally figured out the mighty Muhle R41. It’s a smooth shaver if u take your time and find the correct angle. No looking back muscle memory! Thanks for your insight!!
Been watching a ton of your videos lately!! Just started getting into DE shaving. Actually just had my first DE shave and it was incredible!! Thanks for all the videos!!
For anyone on the fence about buying this razor - don't let people scare you off from getting it. As long as you hold the razor at the correct angle with the handle more toward your face you'll be fine. People act like this thing will cut your head off. Whatever. Go slow and you'll be fine.
great to see you back shaving Nick.
It's always impressive to see you shave when you've built up a decent beard/stache
I’ve owned the mühle R89 for much longer than I’ve owned the R41(I own multiple razors as well). That being said ever since I got the R41(I believe two’ish years ago) at least once a month (depending on growth), I will do my first pass with the R41and my next two with my R89. I’m not sure where I picked up on that, probably one of you UA-cam shavers, but it is awesome for taking my beard down!
Thanks again for all of the videos
Absolutely love the R41, over 2 dozen shaves with it so far and no nicks or cuts, it's up there with my Rockwell 6S!
Ever sense I first seen ur videos I have gotten me the 34c and all the other stuff I needed n I can honestly say I love wet shaving and I can't wait to get more razors.
Nick! Love your videos. Very informative.
Great shave. Literally just bought the L&L soap. Looking forward to get that great smooth lather.
Great shave, Nick!
Hi Nick, it's good to see you shaving back ^^
Wow!!! Lol, there was something really therapeutic about watching that beard disappear..... Great shave!!!
You've gotta do a review of the Parker 26C open comb. I love it, very comfortable and accurate.
You're a brave man Nick. R41 after 30 days of no shaves...Wow! Well now you can move forward with milder equip, no nicks(pun intended), normal sweet shaves. Thanks for the show. Enjoy.
Looks like you had a great shave there Nick. Took my NSV goatee off on December 1st as well. My slim adjustable on 9 mowed through it but boy was that area ever sensitive as well. No other place on my face had burn with the AS but my goatee area burned bad enough I dropped an F bomb. so I hear ya on that. With that said you can get back to feeling good and clean shaven now lol
Sorry you ended up cutting yourself a couple times. One thing I kind of like about it though is it shows that even when you get really good at shaving you can still get cuts every once in awhile so don’t get stressed if it does happen. As always keep up the good work!
Every good saver cuts themselves. ;)
alright so I dont have to worry everytime my face bleed, ok.
I think it was a good idea to change razor after the first pass
I’m good with cuts. I can deal with that. I can’t stand ingrown hairs !
Love my Muhle R41 ..wish I could use it in all of my videos! Have a good one.
Nothing like a nick shave video. Hope you're doing well!
Nice shave, Nick. Not easy to shave off a month's growth of beard, but well done. Take care and I hope you are able to keep your videos in the pipeline! All the best.
Great shave, brother!
Love your channel nick
yessss been looking forward to this vid
That razor SHAVES! killed that beard. Nick Shaves shaving again!
Something super satisfying about this video :-) I LOVE the razor, can't stand the blade though. Maybe I just got a bad batch but they seem super dull to me.
Great video as always Nick. Is there another razor that you'd consider when taking off the beard? Didn't you use the R41 last year? What other razor in your arsenal would you have considered besides the straight razor?
Great ti see you back in action Nick. It does suck that you ended up with a couple cuts but they weren't to bad. what are you going to use to chop of the Stash?
That's the reason there are adjustable safety razors ... you could do your first pass with a Futur at #6 and then going smoother at #3 or #2 or whatever you like!
That razor worked through that beard effortlessly. I don't a safety razor but considering a Muhle. Watching videos for research.
Hey nick, you should do a EDC video!
That razor is on my Christmas list!
Your sis Lauren turned my hubby and me on to your channel. Not sure if I can convince him to shave his beard. Happy Shaving!
I don't know why I find these videos so entertaining, but I do.... My gosh, is it so fun to watch you cut off your facial hair. I'm waiting for mine to grow in! Whenever that'll be... :(
I am impressed that you can shave off that much hair all at once with a DE.
History Lesson .... Hermes Trismegistus was the author of the Hermetic Corpus. It is a series of ancient texts that are the basis of Hermeticism. Trimegistus means "thrice-greatest". Anyway great shave Nick. I'm going to have to find some of that soap.
Always nice to grow the beard, and nicer to shave it off!
Have you ever used the Maggards V3A? Was wondering how that stacked up on the aggressiveness scale.
Nice video Nick 👍 Your nose works absolutely different to mine. I always think: what the hell is in his soap? 😆
I've tried the Trismegistus soap, but now I'm using the Arkadia soap from Stirling. It has the same scent!
great to see you making videos again Nick! where's the link to the video? i want to enter into the giveaway.
I agree with some of the statements others have already made: liked that you showed no matter how much experience, there will sometimes be irritating shaves. I was wondering considering the aggressiveness of the Muhle R41 how often you end up using it? Obviously the 34C and Rockwell 6C are a couple of your faves for everyday use.
Great video.. hard to see you shread your face with overly aggressive razor.. good comeback though, good to see you change up strategy using 34C and Personna.. keep up great work, blessings sir..
I tried to shave hair like this today, I really wished I'd started with a trimmer and finished with a razor. it was very slow progress with a safety razor, although I probably wouldn't have even attempted it with a cartridge razor!
That was a sweet 1 month beard.
That is a powerful mustache, sir
It makes a big difference when your skin is used to shaving and when its not . Nicks are to be expected . Sorry about the nicks , but it looks good . Thanks Nick
I am missing the "double mirror" (90 degrees to the main mirror) of the old house! Will it make a comeback? Why didn't you use the alum block to stop the bleeding?
I just got my PantaRei in and it's awesome
glad u switched to the 34c half way though the second pass. using the 41 for the 2nd or 3nd pass, madness. i couldnt do it. hahaha
This is how you earn the moniker, nick shaves!
The R41 is the King. It’s a pity they don’t make a stainless version. Since 2012 it’s the R41 and Fatip OC for me.
They do have a stainless version
@@mrtheluckybucket Yes, but I probably wrote that comment before it was produced!
@@KRAZEEIZATION lol probably
Good to see you make a nice shaving video Nick, I have learned a lot from some of your videos. I make shaving brushes for a hobby and would like to make one for you. I don't sell them I just like to find them good homes. Let me know if I can make you one
ive almost never even nicked my skin with r41 it takes fast even thick beard and nd my opinion it is quite hard to mess up with it
Nice beard off. Digging the stache. I want to get a Muhle R41 but it looked like it tore ur face up. Is it really that aggressive, or was it a perfect storm kinda thing with the not having shaved in a while, and a mildly aggressive blade and razor combo?
I quite often have small cuts when cheating and using a DE, no matter which blade or if it is my 34C or ATT, but very rarely when using a straight
I used clippers to knock my beard down before I shaved it off. Only got a few nicks. Keep them vids a coming - Tom
I agree! Using clippers makes it alot easier! :)
Your excitement at 9:52 is contagious lol
I like to hit my beard with an electric clipper to get it down to a reasonable length, then do a proper blade shave. Great shave Nick!
I feel like cutting beard hair which is long is easier to cut and remember where you shaved or not just bcuz long hair is not coarser then short hairs.
Why are you not doing new videos?
You look much younger without the beard, but I have to say that moustache looks awesome!
Nice video considering a months grow that r41 took it off in almost one pass... that's an aggressive razor.
The most aggressive reportedly
Good video
Is 34c still your favorite or is the r41 in the race now? I've been shaving with the 34c for a couple of years now and I want to upgrade to something more aggressive, so I've been eyeing the r41. Feedback would be appreciated. Txs
A brave man!
Muhle r 41 or merkur futur on setting 6 which one do you feel more aggressive
It's ok if you have nicks and cuts. After all, it's just sometimes you get one once in a while. About alcohol-based aftershaves, would you admit that they're bad for your own skin type since your skin is sensitive? Balms are more better than splashes since alcohol does more harm to the skin than good
Reminds me of Mustache March on a deployment. Suddenly every officer is walking around with a mustache (and some are REALLY BAD, which is part of the fun), and the Afghans just laugh at us. Good times and thanks for fundraising for cancer. Little efforts like yours add up. Take care.
I recently stopped shaving against the grain because I found the irritation wasn't worth it. I'm finding that the more aggressive razors shave me closer (because I don't want to spend several minutes performing a clean up pass on a milder razor). My Fatip Grande leaves a light shadow stubble, but the Ikon Tech gets rid of it (and gives me a shave almost as close as if I shaved against the grain).
Good to see you back Nick... Good to have that hair off your face too I bet :)
Old version R41?
I made my wife watch this one... I couldn't believe how easily it happened (the shave)!
Nick do we need to set up a gofundme account to buy you a new camera so you can do your video of 2017 top shave gear lol.
Hurry up man
Nice!
Let’s see more straight shaving!!
Fess up, Nick, you're auditioning for the new Freddie Mercury biopic, aren't you?
Should have used the Rockwell 6C....
That Muhle is an absolute lawnmower! Wow..
Aside from a few nicks, nice shave Nick. (pun intended).
I went against the grain. I left my beard intact and shaved my head. ;)
#AlternateUniverse
I hate seeing blood but this video was worth it
You look so much better without a beard
Well done Nick. I can’t help but notice, you look like a fairly tall guy and your vanity is sooo low! (standard is usually 30 inches) Makes my back hurt watching you. Had mine made to 40”. A contractor could do it easy. 😁
Your months worth is more like 6 months for me hehe..
Ever since I stopped working out my beard has become even more thin, soft and downy than it was before.
After I started wet shaving, I want it to grow out faster and thicker, so I can repeat the process.
Never going back to mach3 and all that jazz..
You could had applied the alum
I need this r41!! How would you compare this vs a gillette superspeed from the 50s ?
A Superspeed would be far, far milder. The Gillette Superspeed is basically in the mild territory whereas the R41 is approaching shaving with a straight razor in blade feel.
Now that was a proper "after shave burn" face :)
Nick, the R41 requires less speed and shorter distances. You did not apply these two rules and for this reason you had the accident. The razor is one of the best, but needs more attention.
я ждал 1 декабря и ждал что будет это видео
nick nicks should be his username. Get it??? Cause he’s always cutting himself in his shaving videos!
incredible, baby face from the first passage, from now we should call r41,beard slaughter, but i think one passage with that machine, its enouph...
Nick the ikon tech is even aggressive than muhle r41 and nice shave
Hey Nick shaves use symmetry open comb over r41 as if you have a beard and use r41, r41 feels harsh if you over do a particular portion. It becomes red. Symmetry open comb doesn't feel harsh. Traditional open combs are better than r41 specially for beard or stuble. If I have stubble More than a week I don't use r41 and prefer symmetry open comb. It is more effective.
neil dsouza Got a Symmetry for Xmas. It’s my favourite hands down and that’s coming from a 34C. Just a perfectly balanced razor.
BigBadBison I love open comb razors.
I'm a 20 years old male. I started growing facial hair when I turned 16, but I don't have a full beard growth yet. It's still thin and uneven, and has many bald spots. How long does it take to fully develop beard?
I wasn't able to grow a full beard until about forty. Generally, if you shave everyday, it stimulates the hair follicles and promotes growth.
Don't shave. You'll be scraping out the vellus hairs and won't ever let let mature
past 30, still waiting for a proper beard growth
Uh oh... better get Drano!
Voshkod blades....The mad russian. By far the most fickle blade I've ever used. Has me in tears by the second use. So many better choices for me. Gillette Silver blues, PolSilvers, Astras...If you need sharp, I'd go with the feather.
Jeffrey Ramsower I totally agree. I know Voskhods have a fanatical following, but I've never gotten the shave out of them that I've gotten from Astra SPs or Gillette Silver Blues. Even the Dorco Prime Platinum works much better for my beard. I didn't care for the Voskhods at all, which was really disappointing. I'm just glad I only bought a 10-pack and not 100 of them.
I can't shave with Voshkod either. ... of course in wet shaving everything is subjective. ..
I’m a die hard feather user. By far my favourite, love how sharp they are makes the shave feel really smooth
For me, a Voskhod and a 34C makes for a perfect shave...
Dave M is it sharper than a feather? I’ve never tried it but I heard they are cheaper
I LOVE to shave, but I HATE how I look without a beard. I haven't shaved in two years... so much good gear just dying in my bathroom cabinet.
Should have gone slower with the first pass ..... buffing would have been a better strategy ..... ur earlier r41 shave with full beard was perfect
Makes me feel better when even Nick gets a little bloody from time to time.
Dude, it doesn't make sense. Try to test the shavers with 24h growth bear.
It sucks i can't decide whether to shave my beard or not, i'll flip a coin.
Wouldnt it be much easier to use an electric beard trimmer, and get it down to stubble first, then shave?
you don't need to with safety razors
That's what I do. I'll usually knock it down with an Andis Outliner the night before and then it's really comfortable when I shave the following morning. Like the other commenter said, you don't *have* to do this, but I've found that when I shave (even with a more aggressive razor) after more than two days, there's just more pulling, I have to go slower, and I couldn't pull off a single WTG shave.
