      Thanks James :) The next few videos I have lined up are to do with Periphery and The Contortionist' music, though I'll certainly be coming around to Garstka too. His playing is just too inspiring :)

      Haha totally understand Jonas. I try to make each topic different too so you can still work on the last 3 videos, which will tackle double bass(Kascade), groove(paramexer), and chops in this video. But hey at your own pace man :)

    Another great video. Where did you get those foam bass traps, and do you think they do anything?

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  7 років тому

      OH those are from Auralex, but I don't know where my school got them from, the studio that I currently film all my stuff now is not my own. As for doing anything, I don't know the difference as I've never played in this studio without the bass traps before and the room still has a lot of echo at all ranges since it's a very small studio.

    Wei your videos are very insightful and inteligent, that s why i wanted to ask you if you know if i can find the tracks for animals as leaders whitout the drums. Maybe in matt s site? Any sugestions?

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  7 років тому

      martin bursztein thanks! But unfortunately Matt hasn't released any playalongs to the general public

  • @martinbursztein9354
    @martinbursztein9354 7 років тому

    Wei thank you for your answer, another question though, if you want to make a drum cover how can you make the drums disapear from the mix, is that posible? Amazing playing by the way

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  7 років тому

      +martin bursztein it's possible with audio editing, you have to play as close to the original as possible, take out some of the frequencies in the track and use compressors or limiters, and you'll have quite a usable product. But of course you'll compromise a bit on sound quality but that's what you have to do without minus ones. Sorry for the late reply, am on holiday at the moment haha

    How do you go about breaking down these drum parts? I find it difficult to determine the time signatures sometimes at certain parts, let alone decipher the drum parts. Would it be possible for you to do a video showing how you break down a song from understanding the time signature to notating the drum parts. Even if it's just for a section of a song. Thanks!

    • @ArtOfDrummingHQ
      @ArtOfDrummingHQ  7 років тому +5

      That's a great question. I've been studying odd time signatures for a couple of years, and a lot of it was Gavin Harrison's work with Porcupine Tree. Back then it was a struggle for me trying to make sense of stuff in 7 or 5 as well as practice to play them. It's been some years and I've fallen in love with this kind of music, even more so when I was introduced to Animals as Leaders just 2 years ago. But to make a long answer short, it's taken me many years of practice and intensive listening to such stuff to be able to break down the stuff for you guys today. And yes I will do such a video in the future, it'll make for an awesome lesson :)

      yeah ^ and I've been playing prog metal like this for about 6 months so I'm still new to it but there are a lot of things I pick up on now that I wouldn't have understood at all back then. Basically, it will be a slow process at first but it does get faster and more natural. just spend as much time as you can analyzing a song you want to learn, even if it means listening to it all day. It's always worth it when you finally figure it out and have the freedom to play it on the set! also quick note, a lot of the prog stuff that sounds super abstract and difficult actually has a simple pattern behind it. keep your eyes peeled

    Seems llike a good vid. Perhaps turn the background music down a bit. Mic quality made it kinda hard to clearly hear some of the things over the music
