    That’s a sick lick. But Nuno style licks are crazy. I do want to start metronome a few quick one back to speed. Haven’t done speed since 90? 89?

    Amazing stuff. By far the best lesson on Nuno's style and technique that I've seen so far. Which makes me wonder if could unlock a mystery for me. What is he doing in Midnight Express at around 0:46 and 0:54. Are those notes all picked, or hammered on like the first lick you demonstrated here?

    • @mastertheguitar
      @mastertheguitar  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks man! In Midnight express Nuno uses the same idea of using hammer-ons and palm muting to get that percussive legato sound. Check out ua-cam.com/video/qAqEhC2u9_w/v-deo.html

    Thanks, love those songs and will be learning those licks.
    bTW the 32 note run on naked is quality and not a lot of people like that 4th album.

      Yeah, music trend timing was unfortunate for Extreme IMO. Waiting For The Punchline is a great album for sure

    Does anyone know what nuno’s practice routine was as a young player? He’s a favourite I’m just trying to get some ideas to incorporate in my routine, thanks in advance!

    • @mastertheguitar
      @mastertheguitar  5 років тому +3

      I’d need to dig out some old magazine reviews to see specifics but Nuno is definitely a play along with the song kinda guy rather than sitting down with a metronome. He’d most likely suggest working out some of favourite players licks by ear and not using TAB so you end up some unique way of playing those licks, making them your own. In saying all that I’d highly recommend working on things like timing, muting, string skipping, picking and tapping etc. All factors in Nuno’s awesome style. Ultimately he’s all about the song so maybe you could write little sections of music to act as a catalyst for practice topics, HTH :)

    so good! question: in lick #1, why not just use all downstrokes?

    • @mastertheguitar
      @mastertheguitar  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks man! You certainly could do it all with downstrokes, whatever works.

    • @EricBourassa
      @EricBourassa 3 роки тому

      mastertheguitar What made you decide to use upstrokes?

    • @mastertheguitar
      @mastertheguitar  3 роки тому

      Mostly my hooky picking technique TBH! :D But you could also alternate between Down Up and you cross strings to help things rhythmically with the phrasing.

  • @GoneToHelenBach
    @GoneToHelenBach 4 роки тому +1

    Great tutorial, very well explained and demonstrated but you lost me on lick 4 with that 'bit of a stumbling block, no amount of 'sticking with it' is going to add an inch to the length of my fingers. Stretching from 12 to 17 is just about possible for me but it's quite uncomfortable, 10 to 15 is never going to happen.

    • @mastertheguitar
      @mastertheguitar  4 роки тому

      Thanks man! How are your fingers placed when trying the reach? I find that stretch more manageable if I'm think of reaching back with the first finger to the 10th fret, on the full pad of the finger rather than fingertip iyswim.

    • @GoneToHelenBach
      @GoneToHelenBach 4 роки тому

      @@mastertheguitar Yeah, I can just about reach if I have my thumb behind the twelfth fret and approximately beneath the G string, kind of like I'm doing the devil horns, but my hand is really straining and becomes slow and clumsy. After a couple of minutes of practising it really starts to hurt.
