Rick! We were the “old people” (your age) who approached Nuno at the VIP “Sound Check Experience” at Hard Rock Sacramento. We told him that we “discovered” Extreme for the first time through your amazing interview (yes, really!) We are long time subscribers to your channel, but I told Nuno that he was the best interview - ever! I also told him that we now have all of their albums & love their music. He told all the other guys right there in front of us, “They found us through Beato!” They seemed very pleased to hear this. All of the guys were very kind, humble, and gracious with all the fans there. They played a great show & they were definitely “all in”. We were so excited to see this latest interview. Nuno told us that you were a genuinely nice guy - and that you “tricked” him into playing at the first interview! Rock on, Nuno- you are the greatest! THANK YOU RICK for everything that you do.❤
We seriously need a video series called “Nuno and Rick react to tunes they love” just you guys playing bits of tunes and reacting. Watching you guys on this is so much fun… like a combination of Bill and Ted, Wayne and Garth, and Beavis and Butthead.. this is easily one of the best videos you’ve ever made. It’s loose and focused all at once.
A Beato/Nuno podcast would be epic. 30 minutes a week, recorded remotely from wherever you each are in the world. That would probably be a record breaking music podcast, honestly.
King Edward. It seems that in rock music, everything flows through him sooner or later. We old guys get it. Young guys - they get it though they may not know it yet.
@@chignutsak The old matches with "King Edward" printed it on the outer cover. I would cut them out and pin them on the wall om the outside of EVH posters as ma 15 yr.
What I think makes Mr. Bettencourt so endearing to us fans is that not only does he have NO PROBLEM giving Edward Van Halen proper due as a massive inspiration, friend and to keep his name alive, but he also makes no apologies to anyone for it either. Since 1978 when all of us walked around with that "wtf is THAT??!!" look on our dumbfounded faces from the debut Van Halen album coming out, Nuno never wants any of us.... or even himself.... to ever forget that "wtf is THAT??!!" feeling. The Van Halen invasion is a time-stamp in my life too and one that also wishes it could have continued on a little longer. Thank you Nuno for being, well, Nuno, thank you Nuno for being very human, and thank you Nuno for playing YOUR ass off in your own "wtf is THAT??!!!" inspirational right too. I know I speak for many, but last, thank you King Edward for making our ears bleed and smoke with your ferocious, jaw-dropping and magnificent gifts for all of us to enjoy-- especially turned up to Spinal Tap 11. You are sorely missed and that is another "wtf?" moment time-stamped in my life too. May King Edward shred in peace.
I wish you would ask everyone about their hearing. HOW could you play loud for 38 years and not have ringing or hearing loss? Nuno best interview....the guy gets it and is SO real for a rockstar. He NAILED the drum talk...spot on.
"They heard the cassette?" had me laughing out loud! And "We've got stuff from the 1900's!" I laughed so much with this convo!!! Nuno's such a great storyteller with a massive sense of humor and humility!! This was such an enjoyable conversation to hear! Thank you so much, guys! Watching you two enjoying listening to the drums was like all of us "regular" people!! Nuno is such an extraordinary talent, a treasure, and a pleasure! Rick, thank you so much for this! Nuno is a GOAT!
Hope this isn't offensive but I told my wife that your channel Rick Beato is like Graham Norton for myself. It's a fantastic channel that privileges it's esoteric audience with a distanced physicality as if you've just had an encounter with one of your idles first hand. Like playing a support gig before one of the bands you're enamoured with and the guitarist comes over to chew the fat with you. I've had those experiences but your channel is sharing this with a new or old aspiring musician. It's an amazing privilege and so encouraging to see where you've taken your UA-cam channel. What a treasure you are Rick.
OH yeahhhhh! Gotta love some Nuno Bettencourt. How funny that he says someone "discovered" him through seeing him on Rick Beato's channel. I'm glad I was there for Extreme in real-time as a Gen X'er. Good music times!
I never knew much about Nuno and his bandmate. I just really like More Than Words especially since the lyrics were things are would tell people. I never realized that he is considered a virtuoso or near-virtuoso.
Thank you Rick. Nuno makes me laugh hysterically 😂❤. I love his interviews. He is incredibly talented and has the best stories. The new album woke us all up. You guys should do a weekly podcast.
Thought this interview was wonderful. Rick & Nuno have such great chemistry. Loved him bringing up 8 tracks tapes. I laughed so hard as 8 tracks were so bad. Also brought back the memories of buying a 10 pack of TDK or Maxell blank cassettes so I could record albums to play in my car.
These two are the most articulate analysts/commentators on music around. Nuno is SO perceptive - not to mention hilarious! Perfect partners for a podcast.
Ok let me say one stupid thing... there is something magic happening only on the Rick's channel: two f**ing BIG stars and pros and artists of the music scene (each one in his area) are talking like two school buddies that are crazy for music and rock and gear and records (but with all the know-how they have!). The genuine enthusiasm and passion in each word and in the faces and in the eyes... wow... it's like you are there and are listening Eruption for the first time with them!!! And... to me... this is what make Nuno (apart the f*ing monster gutarist and musician he is) a no-age musician and Rick the best music's ambassador in the whole YT. Tnx both guys!
Saw Nuno play just a couple of weeks ago in SoCal. Man, I can’t properly articulate how great he is at his craft, and how great his showmanship is. He’s so fun to watch. One of the all time greats. 🤟🏼
The friendship you and Nuno have is the best! This is what makes your conversations with Nuno so unique. He is naturally who he is, when he is on your channel, chatting with you! Thank you for giving us this. Nuno rarely gives us this side of him and you bring it out so easily! Thank you so much.
Saw Xtreme for the first time last Saturday (03/10/2024), in St Petesburg, Fl. Living Colour opened for them (I'm actually a huge Living Colour fan, drove 4 hours from Miami just for the sake of seeing LC for the 15th time) I was totally mind blown by Nuno and the band. And on top of his playing, he's an amazing host and master of ceremony. Great show, those guys are on their prime.
Cool man, Living Colour is awesome been following them myself since Cult of Personality. Have only seen them once way back in 1995! in Auckland New Zealand.. still have the Tshirt Lol. Nuno one of the greats too.. Cheers
Was at that show too, with two of my sons 38 and 40, and I’m 68! First time seeing either band for any of us. Great show!! (First concert that these two sons attended was headlined by Megadeth and Rick and his band Billionaire opened!😆 Masquerade in Tampa, fall ‘99…)
To be honest, the "Get the funk out" solo is the best of all times! How it starts, then when you think it's "peaking", it just goes off on another level and leaves you stunned....👌🏼🔥🎸🤘🏼🎸
I just love listening to these guys, especially Nuno. Such a cool, humble, down-to-earth dude... who might just happen to be the best living rock guitarist. I could listen to his stories for hours.
This was one of the best lives! Nuno had so much personality! He seems to adore Rick, so there’s that! I just love this. Nuno has a million stories, seems like!
I'm genuinely blown away by Death On Two Legs. Thank you Nuno for the recommendation! Extremes III Sides To Every Story charged my musical DNA. It changed my life. I'm so glad you guys are getting the appreciation you deserve. I'm glad new fans are coming to you! Rick, excellent conversation! Congrats on crossing 4 mil!
I have a good friend who was the bass player for a new pop rock guy in the late 70s who EVERYBODY knows ( won't say the name, but he was from IN) that told me "stop thinking and just F*&%ing play". Good to hear that works for Nuno and many others. I have alot of work to do now.
Nuno is so special. Too smart to be true, so funny and passionate about everything. There is some kind of sadness deep in his eyes...it's my personal perception but what do I know. Maybe he's just tired. Extraordinary musician!!! Love ya'Nuno !!! ❤
So cool watching Nuno and Rick. It seems these guys like to hang out with eachother. I watched this last night until l feel asleep smiling and dreaming about guitar solos. Such a happy moment.
Rick and Nuno are two cool dudes to watch/listen to, such a good rapport you guys have. And Nuno always paying respects and sharing stories about Edward makes me super happy. Shred on dude!
Nuno is always a riot in interviews. You never know what he will say to questions. Kind of like his playing. I am proud to have Extreme as a band come from Massachusetts.
i never thought the sight of two dudes eyes lighting up at the subtle difference in a raw take of a piece of music we all have heard 1,000 times would make me smile so much. as if the insanity of that track isn't enough for my brain to comprehend, seeing the passion for Eruption through Rick (the best music teacher/scholar/interviewer ever) and nuno's (a prominent face on my personal mount rushmore of rock) expressions is enough to move a dude to watery eyes. one of the best chats yet, rick... the impromptu nature shows what a great conversationalist you are (as if we didn't already know)... toss one of rock's most passionate player and speakers/advocates in the room - and you have an hour of gold. thank you, gentlemen, for winning the internet (for me, at least) today.

This is probably my favourite Rick Beato interview so far. The passion for the intricate detail of music composition/playing/ physicality by Rick and Nuno is awe inspiring.
Everytime I hear Nuno talkin' about Brian May, I remember him mentioning-a long time ago, guitar player called Ronni Le Tekro from TNT as one of his favourites. Everyone reading this, if You don't already know Ronni's playing, do Yourself a big favour and check him out. You won't be disappointed. Ahh Rick this was so much fun to watch. Nuno is hilarious. The two of you talking together just flows so effortlessly. Keep up the amazing work you’re doing.
I'm not a musician and know very little about the technical side of music, but I could listen to these two talk about music all day long. They bring out the human side and the soul of it. And such great stories, too.
I bought the debut when it came out in 89. Heard of that new hot guitar player. Gee, I had no idea what was coming. This here, this interview, is the most wonderful I listened to in a long time. Rock on, guys!
Nuno.... the Ripster of clean arpeggio. I think of Foo Fighters with Dave Grohl, and Nuno of Extreme as bands/players still carrying the torch of Rock and Roll.... 65 yrs old here, and still need to feed on that exquisite flavor/taste of musicality.
You two should really consider doing a podcast together. Tons of knowledge, and fun to listen to. Maybe when Nuno stops touring, if that ever happens.
O. M. G. Love this interview. Hope to get to see you near Chicago
This 🔥
I would listen to this!
I said the same thing. They have the passion and knowledge to make an awesome podcast ❤

He's very passionate and technical. He's got no problem in revealing all his tone secrets (because he knows nobody can play like him anyway😁).
@myuncle2 good point!

I found him through a Guitar Player cover story in the early nineties.
Check out his solo catalog, such as Schizophonic!
Great interview Rick… Nuno is a hoot!
Nuno is every interviewer's dream: he just keeps talking, and delivering.... - thx Rick for bringing him back

Friends over lifetimes
I can listen to Nuno chat with Rick for hours. This was awesome.
Conversations between equals who respect each other are THE BEST!!!
That story about 12yo nuno... absolutely priceless... took me back when i was a little kid and all my phantasies were so real. Beautiful story.
And they were so life and death serious
❤

Agreed!! Their chemistry is obvious
Love that they (we) are all EVH fans…RIP…
Indeed!!
We all gather around Edward’s magic! So glad I saw him
@2216sammyEdward also loved Nuno
Apparently Ed would play the "He man woman hater" riff at every soundcheck

Love to listen to Nuno and Rick go back and forth. I’m a Nuno obsessed guitarist so I’m partial. ❤
This is such a great conversation. I’ve seen so many Nuno interviews and have never heard that Ozzy cassette story. Amazing.

Nuno isn't simply an awesome guitarist, but one helluva an awesome person, this review has kept me glued to watching it..
This is probably my favourite Rick Beato interview so far. The passion for the intricate detail of music composition/playing/ physicality by Rick and Nuno is awe inspiring.

THIS IS A HANG!!
This guy is so captivating in this setting , both extremely entertaining and informative
You should have an interview with Nuno once per month.
Nuno….! So happy he is back in the spotlight…..! What a shred man
Those tones he gets is completely insane..!!
Nino is right about hearing a recording in the car. Prince used to do this. Music sounds right when you're in your car.
FYI I read an interview with Barbra Streisand years ago, & she did the same thing with all the songs she recorded! Great musicians!
WOW, Nuno is such great fun when he's hanging in your studio! Thank you so much!!!!!!!
Awesome conversation guys! The 8 track tape memories.. classic.
