Most tech channels release variations of the same content on launch day. It's nice to see coverage of an equally important aspect of a build. Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks for that explanation about the different chipset options -- definitely answered some questions that I had. Much appreciated!
Thank you! For someone who replaced a ten year old computer with a prebuilt during the gpu shortage this is very helpful for when I plan on upgrading
really loving how we got to see the 3 side by side for comparison, really liking there design of the extreme !!!
Just the video I was looking for. Thanks Paul
Not sure if they did it this time around, but one thing I always wish for with the lower end boards is a dedicated on-board power button, and the Dr D digital readouts. The higher end boards are the ones that always seem to get those extra features when I feel like they should be standard on all boards. I'm not complaining at all because I realize those features add to the cost, but it's just something I've always wanted to see. I always see them, and am like, "Man I want one of those fancy power buttons, and pretty number thingies!" Lol.
The Post codes are something I wish was on more lower end boards tbh or at least the read out LEDs if it adds too much to cost. Power buttons are rally only good for test benches or a first power up and initial POST outside the case it easily done with a screw driver and shorting the front panel connectors together. If something ever goes wrong (and it has, I had some issues when I powered on my PC for the first time and I had recent issues with the CMOS battery too which died and caused my PC to blue screen and forget the time and date) POSt code displays are definitely good to have.
Actually I would like to see this as an "external" option, like a small daughter card you could plug on a standardized plug on any motherboard... One can dream
@@pl0dman925 I watched that video, and yeah that's going to be incredibly frustrating, and terror inducing for people trying to do any sort of problem diagnosing that requires several power shut-offs. Even doing something as simple as a drive swap, or addition could cause nightmares, lol. "All I did was swap out the drive, WTF, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO M....oh nvm, there it goes." LMAO.
@@NINJAMONACO Something that could potentially be plugged into a smaller PCIe like those wifi cards would be cool, but I have no idea where it would get the info from.
@@albal156 For sure. POST codes are way more important than an on-board pwr button. The pwr button would be just for ease of use for me. I kinda get a little wigged out using the screwdriver method because I feel like it's something you're not supposed to do even though it's safe, and been done millions of times.
The color grading and lighting is really good on your videos.
Thank you Paul for pointing out the longer support for AM5 and in essence future-proofed for at least 3 years.
This a great video. I also noticed how you masterfully avoided having to do anything that resulted in plugging in that provided power supply :)
Exactly what I was looking for thanks for the content 👍
Thank you Paul & Gigabyte for this!
Extremely awesome video as always Paul!!
I extremely loved watching it on my PC powered by the ASRock B550 Extreme4 motherboard. 😄
Appreciate your choice of topic to cover today, Paul
With what they are charging for the new generation of motherboards, they should all come in that box. I feel that all the companies are trying to continue the inflated prices from the pandemic. I was lucky enough to have built a system just before the pandemic, and so I hope to ride out a few generations for perhaps the AM6 socket.
$999 for the top of the line is way too much
Remember 50$ for agood B350 AM4 board. Those were the times.
thanks again for including the VRM powerstage (theoretical lol) amps!
For some future gigabyte sponsored content I’d love to see a super high end, full gigabyte AORUS PC build. It would be awesome to see a multi video series. I’d love to see a regular PC review type video of it as well as a full “beginners guide 2022” style video where you build it and another 3rd video where you go through the installation of software that you’ve done before. A 4th video for the series I think could be really great would be going through and tuning/over locking the system for beginners. Of all the creators out there in the PC world, you’re the one I always turn to when I need a no nonsense, easy to understand guide on anything for my PC and you’ve helped me go from complete PC beginner last year to at least semi competent. Keep up the amazing work, you’re always incredibly appreciated
Would love to see a "budget build" when Octobers Motherboards come out, and highlight any areas where budget builders may want to consider a step up on the cpu or motherboard AM5 ladder?
Problem is the price of ddr5
The cheapest "budget" build is going to start you at $1000+
If you like green pcb... sure.😆
There is no "budget build" , they are milking it before the competition comes out like always.
Budget and midrange builds will probably become doable in early to mid 2023.
Cheers for the informative content, I've put a 670E in my Amazon basket...waiting to the end of the month..
Love this.
We need to see the ALL AORUS BUILD!
Great video Thanks for the detailed info.
nice! I'm very happy to see that companies haven't forgotten about you, congrats
Appreciate this video very much, thank you!
Very well done guys!
Paul you always make such rad content... thank you
Best hardware channel still by a mile Paul.
Thanks brotha
Looking forward to your budget build with the new AM5 system!
Although much later, as the B series chips launch ,I was lot but this vid helped!! What foresight!! Thanks so much
Yay! I have been wanting to see the motherboards. Thank you!!! And Aorus is my favorite. Perfect.
Thanks for the video. Of course, I like your giveaway build video idea. Maybe an all Xtreme edition with their top-tier components?
Very valuable video. Thank you.
Wow, super useful rundown.
Looks like you've a lot of work ahead of you; I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
You touched on backplates and sort-of dismissed them. They are useful for out of case builds, like when you test your CPU and GPU on top of the motherboard box, as they add rigidity.
I used to be a big fan of USB ports directly on the PC but I've changed my mind. I plug my devices into USB hubs.
I am disappointed in the lack of 10 Gb ethernet.
If I was planning on upgrading to AM5 one of those boards would be the one I would choose. Nice breakdown.
Thank you for choosing to do something else, Paul! Gigabyte is what I'm considering this time around from my usual Asus, so that choice is bonus for me too.
Thanks Paul you Rock!
That press kit is so cool!
definitely great looking products from Gigabyte, would not mind receiving such a box :)
I'm really curious to see the comparisons between the regular X670 and the B650 Extreme.
You know you are a computer hardware enthusiast when you get excited just seeing these boards, let alone the description of them. 😁
For when the box it comes in is bigger than the assembled computer.
Guilty as charged 😂
That's quite a large box...what do you do with all those special edition launch boxes? They can't all end up in your back ground 🙂
they probably want it back lol
@@Dephside Maybe...I know those awesome Ryzen launch boxes stayed in the sets of many a tech tuber for years though! Those things were pretty sweet.
@@finalmage6 i actually have one. AMD sold them. It also came with a shirt, jacket and hat. Wish more companies did that instead of giving them to reviewers. At least average people would wear the swag.
That's where all the corpses go.
@@Dephside especially that box which probably cost more than any of their mobos
If you happen to get a motherboard without a clear cmos button, but at least the 2 pin jumper, depending on what case you chose you can plug the case's reset button 2 pin header onto the 2 pin clear cmos jumper should you have a no post issue of perhaps an overclock setting that borked. Free tech tip to those new to bild process.
I'm concerned about clearance for the GPU back plate with that massive M.2 heatsink.
Oooohh that is a sexy board, extremex2. I thought for sure with that total care package size there was a giveaway at the end. I love my aorus x570 itx board. They do a great job of thinking about the build process and the little quality of life improvements.
Thank for inserting a sponsor that is actually related to the Title, unlike yesterday.
Nice - now we need a review of the performance of the AM5 platform
I can’t even imagine how excited I would be getting a box like that sent to me. I actually would probably start crying. Thank you for the benchmark break, Paul! I with others were showcasing other computer parts like this.
why would you start crying.. lol
How sadly materialistic are you my guy??? Oof.
Sad life, LOL
Ya'll need to chill. Dude made a slight exaggeration and you wanna drag him. Relax
Thanks Paul!
I had to leave a like, man the amount lf effort, craft, and pride they took to this gift crate is surreal. I'm an Asus Strix fan myself, they are my ride and die. But my god, Gigabyte is always my runner up. They will always be my next runner up to recommendations. Aorus is just such a classy, always well performed brand. I stand by Asus but man oh man, Gigabyte Aorus is something incredible too.
Gift crate = scam any “crate” for that matter.
Currently building my AM5 system. Went with 7600X and Power Color Red Devil 6950 XT
Damn that case is insane !
"Excellent!" Thank you!
Wow Gigabyte has come a long way. Those products are sure nice.
That Hardigg case they shipped all this stuff in is super sick.
Really nice looking boards
The pcie5x16 lots share lanes with the M.2 slots, so if you install the M.2s you go from x16 to x8. Nice little fine print they got there.
Would love to see an all aorus build in the future, I love my aorus master 3070.
Can't wait for the coverage of the new B650 boards when they come out...tomorrow? Lol. Also a build video using all the Aorus stuff that they gave you would be sick!
honestly i know some people have had issues with gigabyte products in the past but i am still rocking a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI and i have had 0 issues with it. i love that they did this show case as me and my partner are looking at building next year 2 new pcs. one top of the line for me and one best bang for buck for her. and honestly im unsure of what to go with amd or intel so it will probably come down to the features on the mobos for where i go.
I got the Asus Crosshair Extreme boards and noticed they include a fan controller and ARGB gen 2 controller. With gen 2 you will get individual lighting capability to all devices connected to the ports.
A giveaway is a brilliant idea, already subscribed, I'm really looking forward to that giveaway. Loved your video too btw. 👌
Thanks for doing something different and nice unboxing the master and extreme look almost the same
Lucky boy... Please compare the like-for-like between the extreme motherboard to the base model motherboard with the same components.
Thanks Paul
Thank you for yet another fine, Informative video along with lively Editorial Comment! 🇺🇸 😎👍☕
Looking forward to the itx boards
Sitting outside micro center right now! Let’s go!🎉
Great video, im currently buying bits for my new build, the mobo situation is expensive and confusing as they are all similar prices as of today
I like that all PCIe slots are x16 size even when they are not electrically x16 wired.
Hey paul, I love your videos, please tell me
Can i keep ryzen 9 in x650 ??
love gigabyte this gen, thinking about building everything from gigabyte this time around
oh boy! Am I tempted!!! Just fear the anxiety caused by the expectation of countless bugs to overcome like when I did my first Ryzen build....but this generation is a beast!
@Paul Any changes on the PC case format? Do I need different PSU cables for the new boards? How do the new CPUs compare to AM4 CPUs in idle or light web browsing scenarios?
I think it should also be pointed out the spacing between the GPU PCIE slot and the others at the bottom. AORUS left room to fit your 4 SLOT GPUs and maybe an extra USB card or something.
Also for an all AORUS build/giveaway I'd love to see maybe a 7900X with the Master mobo and an AORUS RX 7900XT when it launches. I like everything (minus the GPU) to be one step below the maximum so Paul can keep all the best parts for future testing or personal use and I just like the symmetry of the CPU/GPU names.
That's a great idea, I would also like to see that giveaway. 🙆♂
my first job with computers in 1981, was with a 64Kbyte dram, zilog 8bit cpu. floppies were one sided 120Kbyte floppies and hard disks were 5 megabyte boxes. it is 40 years, 40 years!! but wow things have changed.
Yay!! Finally a mother board video! Thank you Paul for scratching that itch for me. I have been wondering how these MBs are laid out.
Video idea: Put a 7600X in the X670E board and see if it is worth the extra money, depending on the usage the person wants.
Also, does a MB backplate help transfer heat to the MB tray in the case?
Let's find out.
the backplate does absorb some heat from the back of the VRMs via a thermal pad between but it doesn't do a good job of dissipating it. It's more of an structural purpose and protection of the smd components from the back from being damaged rather than absorbing heat.
@@Otawakun ah. So because of the size of the board it is used to keep the PCB layers from splitting. I got ya. Thank you for that. I wonder if you replace that back support plate or place thermal pads on it where it touches the MB tray in the case, then somehow actively cool it, would it affect VRM temperatures?
17:12 "well place this cover while removing processor or returning motherboard" ?
Yeah the Elite one would probably be my go-to though. I do wonder will RDN3 GPUs support PCIe 5.0 and if so would it even be a difference. Either way PCIe 5.0 offering more IO is good. Neat to see at least 1 for SSD.
A build giveaway would always been fun. You have that extreme board and that 7950x and the DDR5 6000 32CL Kit and the PSU with the 12VHPWR, and a 7000 SSD. All you need is a nice case and a GPU and you could build a really nice PC that would make someone very happy.
The boards are feature-packed! Hopefully features like the easy latch continue to trickle down into the more affordable lineups.
as long as they are reliable
A give away of the items would be fantastic!
Excellent video indeed 👍. Just wondering what would happen if all the plastic peal was left on the board other than terminal OCD 😀
These days it would probably melt, boards have changed a great deal in the last 10 years.
Thanks Paul this was right on time, just purchased a 7950 and the video makes choosing a motherboard alot easier.
ill be grabbing the Master board myself at some point.. waiting for the x3D CPU 1st
They surely look beefy. I dig all the QoL features!
I basically did a full upgrade earlier this year and I can't believe I'm about to upgrade again. I still haven't even given my hand-me-down parts to my brother.
Was building with msi tomahawk boards since I started using ryzen when it was first launched. Giving Gigabyte a try now, investigated and found x670 gaming ax motherboard offers pretty much best bang for your money and have all that you really need with top of the line power delivery and good audio. Got it for 300euro and also got 64gb 6000mhz cl30 DDR5 RAM to go with it for 360euro (one year ago ddr4 3600 cl14 32gb kit was same price, crazy...). Now just waiting to order 7950x3d on Tuesday.
How is your system performing? I'm also looking at getting the Gigabyte x670 gaming board with a 7700x.
@@19kruger99 it performs very well. Enabled simple pbo and don't have any issues. System boots faster than my AM4 system did too gigabyte did great job. Only once a week randomly it decides to retrain memory timing and it takes about 1min to boot. Otherwise all perfect so far.
Bios is a bit laggy tho if thats problem for you might be hard to accept. Bit it has a lot of customization in bios amd works well, so not an issue to me personally
8:24, oh they sent paul a possible kaboom device trying to silence my man here gigabyte
Oil slick + RGB Combo on the extreme board. I'm waiting for the Disco Ball + RGB Combo at this point...although G.Skill kind of already did it with the royal series of Trident Z ;) DIMMS.
Excellent!
Was really excited to get the Aorus Xtreme with the 7950x until I read the specs that you can only use 2 NVMe drives before it turns the GPU PCIe slot into an 8x. The main competition from Asus and MSI support at least 3-4 before affecting the GPU slot. It's such a poor design choice by Gigabyte to do this on a high end board.
Is this really a problem? We are talking about PCIE Gen 5 x8 which is as fast as PCIE gen 4 @16 (and on PCIE 4 boards 8X is as fast as PCIE 3 @16 as well)
dude it's Gigabyte. ofc it's shit
8x at 5.0 speed is still 2 times what is necessary for a 3090Ti. There is absolutely no way it will be a bottleneck for anything in your system.
@@mra.cortez3553 Bandwidth wise you're right but when you slot a PCIe Gen 4 card, you'll effectively run at Gen 4 x8 (Gen 3 x16). The RTX 4090 is still a Gen 4 card and with DirectStorage games on the horizon, we might see a bigger impact of that limited bandwidth. Now if the 7900XT comes with PCIe 5 then this won't even be an issue.
@@TheHighborn have you ever used a gigabyte product
Nice boards. More and more they could double as toaster ovens, couldn't they? Something a case manufacturer might want to consider. Not just arrangements for the motherboard, external ports and such, but maybe a couple of slots to toast bagels and the like. Hey...it could work!? Talk about....extreme? 😏
Good to see PCIe 4.0 wasn't dropped. Makes me believe their upcoming PCIe 5.0 GPUs won't perform much worse using 4.0. Even in the case of RX 6000 only the lower end GPUs with less lanes performed slightly worse using 3.0.
I love this dude, always so informative. ❤
I hadn’t planned on upgrading from my 10850k but I may just do that with AM5 to take advantage of the pcie 4.0 and SAM
Looking forward to tracking the prices of new parts, because adopting a new platform is mad expensive right now.
Yup is definitely is but for £450 it's jto hafl bad considering the top end x570 boards are basically the sms price with almost half the usbs and way less powerful it isn't half bad
with the motherboard VRM and heatsinks so tall on the premium boards it seems like air cooling tower compatibility would be super impacted
We need a test build to compare air and aio. Three test builds of course, which might help clarify the differences between the boards in practice.
But, don't listen to me, I am waiting for B650. And Aorus will now be on the list. Well done, Gigabyte.
Well hell glad I found this... I had already ordered x670e master ax a 7600x and some 6000 cl 30. And now.... I'm broke but I know what to expect
Do you guys think that the second 8 pin EPS connector on the MB will be mandatory for the 7000 series?
The power consumption has increased, I know but , If I'm not mistaken, Buildzoid said on his AM4 MB reviews that one connector can provide more than 300w, so I guess it will be enough for AM5, right?
lovely video
Any chance we'll get Eco mode coverage next time you want a break?
