This is just insane and the thing is, this will be usefull even after a couple of years for those looking for a cheaper option.
Will be so useful even in 10 years when I build a budget PC
What if the companies in asia start making cheap b650 boards on aliexpress
@@BlackJobZ not sure for 10 years but we might see them on used market in 4 years or so.
@@PainterVierax am already looking at core 2 due motherboards :d
dunno where you live but you'll probably find way more capable and power saving systems for a tiny bit more. Pretty sure LGA 1151 or the old b450 AM4 are very affordable nowadays if you are not looking for the best CPUs of those platforms.
This massive work deserves thousands of likes! Thank you from the community ❤
Yes, of course this is massive work. But remember, this is his job and he is not doing this for free.
@@piotrbiedowicz1602Would you rather he do his job by piddling around and just reviewing one-by-one things that come out?
Yes, it is his job to review stuff, but it's also _his choice_ to purchase an absurd amount of motherboards to give us a comprehensive look at basically the entire market.
Finding motherboard content is difficult to begin with, let alone one that puts everything all in one place. This is above and beyond "just doing his job".
Millions*
@@piotrbiedowicz1602 no really??? And how do you suppose he gets paid. Could it be based on how well his video performs based on views AND LIKES?
The absolute mad lad actually did it. Thank you HU, this is amazing content that nobody else is providing! I will definitely be referencing this for my next build.
What an incredible effort. I've been waiting for a video like this but seeing the sheer amount of work that went into it is stunning. Well done.
Simply amazing. Cannot even grasp the amount of work it took you.
I simply do not understand powerstages or anything like that, but can you tell me what should not go for a620 cheap mobo if I want to put on 7500f and 7800xt?
This is why you're the 🐐
Totally agree
Yes
pc s are dead .you can do your work on cloud pc instead . and cloud gaming is mainstream now not pc or console anymore. People are moving to cloud gaming instead of buying a pc or console or laptops. It's the end of hardware market. Phone s are better than a gaming pc. And we can play games on tv with out any trash hardware. And now Microsoft is totally moved in to cloud gaming instead of console. No Xbox console anymore. Only cloud gaming and Microsoft have windows 365 cloud pc witch will kill hardware totally. ..

Absolutely love your work man, every time a mate needs a computer build I go right to you. Keep up the good content!
Hi. I don't usually donate, bit this video has been so helpful. The work that went in to making this is phenomenal.
Thank you!
Amazing work Steve! You've covered the entire B650 line up and this content will be useful for years to come. Thank you for your efforts mate. Really appreciate HUB's commitment to high quality comprehensive benchmarks, reviews, and testing.
What a huge undertaking. Thanks for the amazing content and effort put into these reviews/guides!
I simply do not understand powerstages or anything like that, but can you tell me what should not go for a620 cheap mobo if I want to put on 7500f and 7800xt?
@@yeshuayahushua4338 You'll be fine with a 7500F on an a620. If you plan on upgrading the CPU in the future, I would stay using a non-x CPU. The X CPU's will need the better VRMs and power stages. BTW, Jesus/Yeshua FTW!!!!
Thank you so much for putting in the effort to have some value tied to the insane amount of motherboards. You guys are awesome!
Excellent and useful video! Especially good editing. I appreciate that the editing is not too tight and I have a chance to breath and think as you move between categories. I will be returning to this video again in the future.
Thank you for all the effort you put into your testing
I simply do not understand powerstages or anything like that, but can you tell me what should not go for a620 cheap mobo if I want to put on 7500f and 7800xt?
@@yeshuayahushua4338Any A620 will be fine for the 7500F, just make sure you have enough USB port and storage for your needs.
@@yeshuayahushua4338Basically how power enters your mobo I will explain it easily
Let's say your mobo has power running thru basically the power stages helps the movement like how the factory moves crates and stuff around having a better power stage ensures a better quality/efficient mobo
My man didn't benchmark a few boards, but an entire library!

For months i am struggling to find a good B650 motherboard yours is the only channel that gives so intricately detailed insight into all the motherboards in this segment it helped me a lot I know it was a giant undertaking but that is why we viewers are subscribed to your channel hardware unbox and you prove it everytime
thanks a lot love from India❤
so what is the best mobo in 650?
Amazing work HUB! Thanks for putting this out there
You're an absolute madman Steve, and one of the reason I love Hardware Unboxed... I honestly have no reason to watch any other tech outlets with these kind of comprehensive overviews! :D
Sublime testing and work Steve! I want to thank you a lot for all of your testings, as the knowledge and findings you and Tim share with use, not only help me,
but many other people that I help on forums, and I use your channel testings to base my recommendation and advice on.
Thank you Steve! I used many of your previous B550 roundup board videos to determine which B550 I wanted to buy. In a couple years this video will still be relevant and great!
Great job as always, guys! Love your motherboard reviews. I've rewatched some of your older ones to help with various projects over the years, as you're always very thorough. This one was awesome! Thanks again!
Steve, thank you for taking the time to create this content. I am currently in the the market for an AM5 board and truly appreciate your amazing content.
Thx for this hard work. Really solid and important review. These days its not easy to find such a comparison anywhere else.
Thank you for your outstanding work and reporting.
The amount of work you put in to creating this content blows my mind.
Just the thought of the repetitive builds and teardowns makes me a little queasy, and that's just the basics.
Honestly, your content is a great guide to use when making purchases.
More power to you!
I am used to come to your channel to check on some pc parts testing but this time I had to subscribe, what a great job gathering all those board models.
Thank you for all the work that has gone into this. Keep in mind, many of us happy on am4 will be reviewing this content in the future.
Love this overview doc - very very helpful to keep info/comparisons in mind! Great work!
This has got to be the most informative comparison video I've seen in a very long time. You guys really went all out. This is the kind of content that gains a channel subscribers. Excellent work.
Fantastic work as always Steve!
Makes perfect sense that the boot times & performance metrics didn't make the cut, but sad that your work on those wasn't able to be included here.
Thanks for the hard work Steve. I bought a B650M ELITE AX two days before this was released for my 7800X3D as it was the cheapest 8 layer PCB that had the features I needed and was $40 cheaper than the PRO AX in my region - I felt relieved after seeing it near the top of the chart, not too far off the PRO. This is valuable content, appreciate the time you put into it. Cheers.
This is a great video, congrats Steve 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The best is the conclusion that basically all of the boards are valid options if you are not using a top of the line CPU for compute heavy workloads, like gaming. Great video and I really like your conclusions 👍🏻
Wow, thank you for the in-depth review! I'm amazed at how many choices (CPU's & Motherboards) are out there. 25 years ago, when I started building, there was only a couple parts to choose from...wow!
Hey man great work. Super helpful and I’ve been waiting for this one. However I wanted gaming data and boot time data as well. Also you should make a playlist of AM5 mobo videos on your channel so new buyers in the research phase can binge easier
I just bought the MSI MPG B650I Edge mITX motherboard today and then this video is posted... here's hoping for the best 😀
Edit: Looks about middle of the road compared to the features/temperatures on other boards, but it's by far the cheapest mITX motherboard I could find in Aus.
Middle of the road for cheapest is good in my book 👍
Pretty good actually, middle in terms of features and performance, but the cheapest price
ANYTHING MSI WILL GET THE JOB DONE THEY ARE A FANTASTIC COMPANY WITH STELLAR CUSTOMER SERVICE ANYWAY
for me awful decision - this tiny fan ... and no PCIe5 just to save $40-50. ASUS rog is way way better
How fast does your PC boot? I have a msi mag b650 Tomahawk wifi and it takes more than a minute to boot.
Thank you so much! I was never the one who's usually on the latest platform whatsoever... but for me this is quite a timeless video, people can always look at this anytime. So, thank you so much! Awesome work
You're my goto motherboard information source. They're well tested and hope this continues. Thank you for what you do!
What an undertaking! Love your MBO comparisons, and this one is is the largest so far.
Keep up the good work, Steve! 👌
Great work, wish I had this video as a resource 4 months ago when I was making my own pc. I have the asus B650E-E and I noticed you got the specs wrong. You said it had 1 PCIE M.2 Gen 5.0 and 3 PCIE M.2 Gen 4.0, but it actually has 2 PCIE M.2 Gen 5.0 and 2 PCIE M.2 Gen 4.0. It's easy to make small mistakes when you're looking at 35 boards. Great work once again.
This was a Gigantic work and we are really grateful to you! I built 2 PC six months ago and this guide would have been really useful(I do understand that it took long months to do this video), but I think I still managed to get good MoBo s. For myself I built on the MSI B650M Mortar wifi, because one of my previous PCs was built on the B550M Mortar and it was exceptional quality and got great reviews, so I was confident the B650M Mortar will be good too.
I am perfectly satisfied with it.
For my son-who has a higher end system with RTX 4080-I built on the Asus Tuf Gaming X670E Plus wifi and he loves it. His PC works great. (For both PCs I used the Ryzen 7 7700X)
Thank you very much, amazing work. When I buy a new part, I always look at your tests and buy it accordingly.
Thank you for making this! This looks like an insane amount of time and effort to compile this list and provide your reviews. I'm watching this now to build a HTPC.
I really appreciate the work and effort you put into this every time, Steve. This is not something that's done and this is one of the reasons I love your videos. Your work is very detailed and very valuable. I see you're not too far from reaching 1M subscribers. Keep up the amazing work!
Man you are crazy for testing all of those boards and I love it! Great to hear my choise was one of the best (ROG Strix B650E-E). Please keep up the good job!
Wow, you guys rock for testing everything in a category. Thanks for putting in all that work!
Holy smokes! This sounds like a LOT of work! Thanks for the informative vid, and all the effort that's put into these videos!
This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm putting together a budget to upgrade my current rig to AM5. Thanks Steve!
Great information, thank you for this video. I ended up going with the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk. Maybe it wasn't the highest rated board, but I had the original B450 Tomahawk and absolutely loved it. Hope I get the same experience with the MAG. Thanks again!
Amazing video, it helped me a lot to figure out my options available right now.
Great work, very through. There is so much information packed in this video, it will make a good reference to come back to for those doing MOBO research. Thanks for putting so much effort, we appreciate it.
The amount of work You guys do is just world leading :]
Man - I'd love to see a test comparing idle power consumption for each board (total system consumption comparison). I leave my PC on almost 24/7 and such a comparison would really help me with upgrade choices
HU knocking it out of the park again (no real surprise there though). Fantastic work. Did my first ever build over last Christmas at the grand old age of 51 and went for the B650E-F. Was going to go for the Tomahawk but on the day at Memory Express the Asus was on sale for around $20 CAD more than the MSI board! Quite the deal and I’ve had zero issues with the whole build (R5 7600x and a “place holder” 6750XT). Again many thanks to HU for all their great work, you and Jason (PC Builder) we’re my go to sources of info on the build.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, helped me a lot. Based on what's available at PLE in their current bundle deals, I decided on the B650M Aorus Elite AX with a 7600X.
Hello, I'm having a booting problem with my set, I have a 7600x, ram 2x16 5600 Corsair vegeance, it managed to enter the bios but when it started the boot to install the windows the screen goes black, and it crashes, the start I thought it was the board, I tried it on 3 different ones, gigabyte b650 dsh3, b650m aorus elite and b650e riptide pg asrock and every time I got the same error, when I tried to update them to the latest version it also crashed and I had to force a restart I tried changing the ram memories and nothing, I left only one memory and nothing, I tried changing disks and nothing, the problem keeps appearing, I don't know what else to do, I hope you can help me and thank you very much 🙏
Thank you for putting in all this hard work, well done! I've got an Asus B650E-E that I purchased a couple of months ago for £325 and, at the time, it was the best all rounder on the market. I've not had any issues with it, everything is working as expected and it's a good pair for my 7950X.
No issues ? Code15 expo works good? And memory restore?
12:09 The ASUS ProArt B650 Creator main feature would be the two pcie x16 slots that can be run at x8 each. Which is needed when running two GPUs for 3D rendering applications like Blender. Much less expensive than buying a threadripper or xeon workstation for multiple GPUs.
Yes, but I think that users that have a multiGPU render PC dedicated for this task, specially if using top tier end GPUs like 4090, most likely have more than enough money to just buy a X670E
@@XxDeViLBrInGeRxX Those X670E boards with dual x8 cost $450+. That's a lot of money if the B650 Creator can do the same thing. It also has a DisplayPort input on the back for DisplayPort over USB-C without the overhead of the iGPU. Useful for those who use a Thunderbolt dock or similar for connecting their monitors and perhaps switching between a laptop and desktop. This also is a feature otherwise only found on $400+ boards.
ASUS *ProArt B650*
x16 or x8+x8 *(PCIe 4.0)* straight to CPU
3rd full-sized slot is PCIe 4.0 x4, via Chipset
PCIe 4.0 x16 (or x8 + x8) means maximum ~32 GB/s.
ASUS *B650E-E*
*MAJOR EDIT:* pdf manual says x16 or x8+x4 *(PCIe 5.0)* straight to CPU
(other sources + my assumption were: x8 + x8).
3rd full-sized slot is PCIe 4.0 x4, via Chipset
PCIe 5.0 x16 (or x8 + x8) means maximum ~63 GB/s. But...
x8 + *x4* wouldn't be great for two GPU's... Especially if they
don't support PCIe 5.0... 😕
So, if two GPU's (PCIe 4.0 x16) would be enough, boards would sort of kind of work... *But...* ProArt B650 with halved bandwidth for both GPU's (PCIe 4.0 x8). Since RTX 4090 etc. and Proart B650 don't support PCIe 5.0. Which might not be a (major) problem, in practice. Even with todays fastest GPU's. But in the future, it might be...
B650E-E's situation is bit weird, assuming pdf manual is correct:
PCIe 5.0 x16 for a single GPU --> Absolutely fantastic! Future proof.
PCIe 4.0 x16 for a single GPU --> Great! For example, unlimited RTX 4090.
PCIe 5.0 x8 for GPU1 + PCIe 5.0 *x4* for GPU2 --> Weird & limiting...
PCIe 4.0 x8 for GPU1 + PCIe 4.0 *x4* for GPU2 --> Weird & seriously limiting...
Anyways, actual HEDT mobos are much more capable (more PCIe-lanes, flexibility and memory). And very expensive, too. And of course, they require HEDT CPU's etc.
@@eukariootti1 I thought the Asus Strix B650E-E only has x8 + x4, not dual x8. On the specs page I see:
2 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slots (supports x16 & x8/x4 modes)
The only B650 motherboard as of now to feature dual x16 @ x8x8 mode
This video is absolutely invaluable for anyone buying a B650 board right now as well as many, many years down the line. Massive kudos man.
Thanks for your team effort putting this test together
Please keep doing these, your b550 lineup video saved me from buying a super bad board that I considered because of the price
Thanks for this amazing review and for the whole lot of work it took!
Thank you very much for this video and efforts you've put into this. I got myself an Asrock p650e riptide wifi based on your recommendations and set up my rig last weekend.
Love this type of content. No other channel works harder on benchmarking and data collection.
Surprised there was not much mention around the Q-Code LED's. Those are a major factor in which motherboards are worth snagging. They are extremely helpful in diagnosing and dealing with any technical issues (which are almost always going to happen when buiding your own pc).
Really wishing I’d find more boards with these. My MSI Gaming M5 Z170A that I used to house my (current) i7-6700k has the LCDs on-board. Ridiculous at the higher price that it’s left out. Manufacturers in all industries have been cutting corners since Covid/chip shortages.
'Almost always' seems quite the exaggeration.
Amazing roundup. Glad to see the Asrock Lightning get a good grade. IT is in my current build. I never use wifi on my desktop so it was not a concern.
I was stopping the video and crunching the numbers on my features, and before the end, I picked the same best board as you! Cool!
Just yesterday I was watching a ton of videos on B650 mobos, tremendous work! Thanks!!
I got the Asus B650E-F a few months ago. Very reassuring that it was your best all-rounder pick!
Any problems 5 months in?
I love you guys. Thank you for everything you do for the PC community!
Thank you Steve for this honest and brutal roundup, I will go for the asrock option because money is tight and is a good motherboard. I'm trying to learn the differences in power stages and discrete mosfets and this guide helps a lot. Amazing work Steve.
Amazing video, I learned a lot from this! Props to you guys for going out of your way to make these sorts of videos!
If you guys plan on making another one of these motherboard round-up videos, would it be possible to include the Asrock B650M Pro RS (WiFi) in your testing / review? I've heard lots of great things about it but I can't find any good reviews anywhere!
I can't even imagine how much work this video gave you. Im pretty sure the whole community is hugely grateful for your work. Thank you so much for your dedication
Absolutely incredible! I can only imagine the time and effort gone into this. Thank you so much! ❤
Doing my own exhaustive research, I pulled the trigger on the ROF B-650E-F. Glad to see that you concur.
I am currently picking parts for my 7950x3d build and I found your testing of the VRM temperatures particularly useful.
Asrock also has the B650m PG Riptide NON-WIFI model that's priced around $160 usd. I am planning on buying the Asrock (B)B650m-HDV/M.2 and pairing it with the Ryzen 7700 & RX 6800.
Thank you for doing all this work.
I just subscribed to Patreon just because of the shower amount of work you guys have put in this.
Bought the MSI Pro Wi-Fi this week in a bundle at micro center. Really like it, thanks for the round up!
Nice work! I was waiting dearly for this earlier in the year, but I did what research I could and went with the Asus B650E-E. Glad to see you guys gave it the thumbs up. Ever since I had two motherboards fried I haven't gone under 200E for a motherboard and haven't regretted it since.
FYI it has a thunderbolt header on the motherboard which might come in handy at some point. I've also been using it on WiFi flawlessly so far.
I've paired it with the 7700 and 7900xt and will be watching the market in the following years for a good upgrade, but not too soon as I always wait for some discounts and patches on new games.
P.S.: good audio, including optical was also a factor for me.
What a coincidence that I was looking for a b650 board, thank you for providing the most objective review, and this will be useful for at least the next 3 years.
That's a RIDICULOUSLY good review roundup, props to everyone involved, holy shit!
as i've commented before. thanks so much for these tests! this really helps in making a decision on motherboard choice for me.
Why do I feel that this content purely from time x effort doesn't equal the outcome other videos would achieve in a lot less time but here you are still cranking this out. Great work as always!
For your efforts, I watched it 3 times. We appreciate what you do because its obvious you appreciate what you do!
A feature you left out on the Proart board was the front USB C charging - with the added PCIe power can do 60W charging out of the front port, which I don't really see on any other board. That could be nice if having 60W charging to another device connected to your PC is valuable. It's definitely very barren compared to its x670e counterpart though.
Amazing work! I've been scratching my head for a few days, trying to make sense of the comparison between just a fraction of these boards... Thanks to this video, you steered me away from a nicely discounted Asus prime... now looking for a nice deal on the ASrock lightning.
Thank you!
Godlike, I love the boot time testing so thx for trying to get those as well
I got the Asus B650E-E a few months ago paired with a 7700x. I've really wanted a nice future proof board with useful features. In my opinion one of these must have features is a Q-code display. It saved me a lot of troubleshooting time including the cmos reset button on the back. Too bad board manufacturers nowadays mostly include Q-leds and ask for a premium for such thing.
i have this too its ok no shady overvolting going on with expo on (thank god), guess these regulations in place that work??? insanity i have 7600x tho my bios is behind cause amazon its on 0821
Same exact configuration, I love it
no issues with the intel LAN chipset and internet connectivity problems?
Any problems 5 months in?
Thank you, awesome job! I'm convinced that you guys' hard work is a large contributor to why we're seeing better quality mobo offerings from the manufacturers now. I went with the Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi because it came bundled with a 7900X and 32gb for $599 from Microcenter in Feb 2023. Thinking about swapping the 7900X for a 7800X3D as a better pairing for my 4090.
how has the mobo been u mate? and how is e-f b650 rog strix compared to e-e b650 rog strix
Monumental undertaking, Steve. Thank you for doing what you do.
Thanks for the hard work! I'd love if you did a round-up of the itx AM5 boards since they each have some sort of compromise, making it somewhat hard to choose a good one.
Amazing work Steve and crew! I originally went with a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX, great boot times, stability and build quality but it had horrendous coil whine so I returned it. I now have the MSI B650 Tomahawk, it's a great (quiet!) board and will do everything I need and more!
I have a tomahawk and can't even get my bios flashed with the usb tool. so I have a rectangular piece of ewaste to RMA and a lot of time lost. I would never recommend this thing to anyone with a newer ryzen cpu
same happened to me bro, its insane today i did rma application :D@@B00h44
how long is the boot time, and is it faster or slower than gigabyte?
@@boi9433boot time is about 40 seconds. Gigabyte board was about 25 seconds. I'm still on an old bios for the msi board. I'm waiting for a while before I update to a new bios. Hopefully I will get better boot times. Not too worried about it though.
@@SteeloNZ1 It's funny we have M.2 SSDs and lightning fast CPUs coupled with the fastest RAM available so far, yet we are now back to HDD era boot times lmao
Note about the Gigabyte B650E Aorus Master: When populating more than 2 of the 4 (pcie 5.0) M.2 slots the pcie 16x 5.0 slot drops down to 8x speed!
That's a cool way of doing it, you have the flexibility to go both ways. By the time it matters I suspect 8xPCIe 5.0 will still be enough - if the card natively supports PCIe 5.0.
@@TheGreenReaper exactly the reason i chose this board.
One 16x slot is enough for me and planning on having the board a long long time and took a bet on 5.0 8x gpus being a thing in the future or at least 5.0 8x still being 'fast' enough for 16x cards by that time. If so I might populate all four M.2 slots. If not, a small pcie card for a 4.0 nvme in the lower 4.0 pcie slot (which runs at 4x I think) will be also fine for a backup/storage drive.
Maybe not the most cost efficient mobo, but I 'wanted' an upgrade after 9 years and also liked the look of the board. :)

That's an epic review. A lot to take in, but it does show the variables to look for. Bookmarking this as I will want to look at some of it again.
Best channel on UA-cam i watch before buying any pc components.
I went with the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F because it seemed like the best option on paper. Been running it since the 79050X3D launched and it has been bulletproof. Glad to see it stacks up against all of those other options in practice, too. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone jumping into the AM5 platform on the upper end of things.
Asus b650e-f or b650e-e im trying to buy one of these i also bought a 7950x3d and a 4090
The big the the A has over the E-F though is intel NIC.
That is why the E-F looks better then the A at the same price point, E-F uses a far cheaper NIC.
Indeed. Just got mine. E-E is kind of pointless, IMO.
Amazing! Thankyou so much for this. I'm planning a build around b650 aorus elite ax and after viewing so many other reviews and confirming the same in your spec sheet, I'll be going for this.
How did it go?
@@WILDDUCKY1892 I abandoned amd due to my use case. Went with intel 14th gen
This is the most valuable AMD Motherboard guide I've run across thus far. It's helped me greatly. Thanks!
Thanks Steve. You're a Legend. I'm actually relieved to see you have picked the Asus B650E-F and B650E-E as your top boards from the lot (for their respective prices). After much research, just about 3 months ago, I went with the Asus B650E-E for my AM5 build. Didn't mind paying 70 bucks more over the F variant for more PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0 m.2 NVMe ports, and the "premium" dual 7-segment LED code display, which is significantly more useful than the plain 4 LED fault lights off my old board, an MSI B450-GAMING-PRO-CARBON-AC, purchased after your B450 board comparison from several years ago.
My B650E-E was initially paired with a 7950X, which I later returned, and purchased a 7800X3D at launch day. Been pretty pleased with this latest build, and happy they seem to have sorted out the 7800X3D CPU voltages in their 1616 BIOS. They were uploading a new BIOS almost every day. It was insane! 😂
Cheers brother! ❤️
im planning to buy the same mobo in two days but dont know how to read these numbers of dual 7-segment LED code display .. any hint dude ?
@@oldschool_bamagatrader9960 Google is your friend! Just ask motherboard code xx and it will tell you!
I pray for your sanity after this video
It took me scouring this video 6-7 times to find where the diminishing returns start and then working up to the board with the features I was after and I ended up pulling the trigger on the B650 Aorus Elite AX ATX. Thanks Steve!
Love the fact you gave recomendations at different price points 😊
