It’s very important to note that certain motherboards will automatically lower the speed of the top PCIe slot if you plug anything into the 2nd and 3rd slots, which means your GPU will take a performance hit. My particular motherboard (Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master) does this, and lowered the top slot from PCIe 4.0 down to PCIe 3.0 after installing an expansion device into the 2nd PCIe slot.

Well good job on this video, it’s very good. Awesome content at start about the cryptic board descriptions. But in the mid part I was kinda shocked, that you seem to value boards on their connectors. Don’t forget that you need to see behind the connectors - some of them don’t work in some combos on some boards. Most important is here the compatibility or better to say the layout of some boards can deny full PCI-E x16 if used with m2 in some combinations. That’s the reason why some boards with x670 chipset are so “overpriced”.
The MSI Edge B650 WiFi is a better board than the B650 WiFi Tomahawk version (also costs a bit more) & that is what I used on my recent Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T 1440p build. My late-2019 3700X 1080p build used an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard & that PC is still running great today with all the original hardware, so both board options are a good choice really.
It's a great board. The only real difference is the white styling and the addition of PCIE Gen 5 M.2 Support. Personally I like the look of the edge more than the Tomahawk (I know some people love matte black but I personally favor the black/white or black/silver look). And it goes on sale cheaper than the Tomahawk sometimes too.
I’ve heard that there are some issues where 7000 CPUs and motherboards end up booting slowly. Is there any recommendation for a board that would be better for this over other ones? Thanks!
I just ordered my new parts and went with the ASUS TUF Gaming B650. Sort of got it by accident because I'd changed down from the ASUS ROG Strix B650E to budget for a monitor and forgot to change it back when I removed the monitor!! This is reassuring that the one I'm getting will still be a quality item, even if not the top level!! To be honest, as long as it causes no problems Im happy
Love it. And from a sound perspective, just so surprinsing how so few of these boards have the RealTek chip 1220 + optical Toslink output. How are you going to live without it today ??? Given this combo should work as well as a 124 dB SNR Sound Blaster ZxR combo, with only 24 bits 96Khz capabilities, or even the newer ones.
I have bought all my keys through them anonymously for the past 3 years (dozens of keys at this point) so I am very comfortable recommending. For a fresh build windows instal check out our "After you build" set up guide for a how to
They are usually legit, part of the reason they're so cheap is that usually you get an OEM key from those sorts of sites. This key will be hardware locked to the computer after you use it, not allowing for it to be transferred down the line (as may be necessary with a big upgrade). Also, less important for most people making their own PCs but OEM keys are backed by the OEM that made/provided them, and not windows, so things like tech support are on them, and windows doesn't have to responsibility for this kind of thing.
I have a B550 in my 2020 build, with a 3800X and a 3060Ti. Im kind of astonished that the B550 is still on the thumbnail image for a "best Ryzen Mobo's in 2024" video 😅 Recently updated to 5800X3D, and im looking to go next gen Radeon when 2025 rolls around.

I haven't built a new PC since 2001 when Athlon XP and GeForce 3 were top notch. Watching this video has gotten me up to speed in an excellent fashion. After 20+ years, I'm getting back into the game. Thank you for such a comprehensive overview
Just picked up all white NZXT B650E on amazon sale for $249 before tax. normal price marked up to 319.99 so I'm happy. I moved all my components into a new H6 Flow, just waiting for 9800X3D in the morning, then RAM and GPU upgrade
Great guide. I upgraded from ryzen 1600x to a 5600G due to Windows 11. Unfortunately, i am still on a B350 Mobo. So, this definitely helps for my next upgrade. 👍
Got the B650 Tomahawk a few months back on my first build. I really like it and decided to forego the Micro Center bundle with the Gaming X AX to get this mobo and the lower CL RAM of my choice
Thank you so much! I got CPU and GPU figured out but am lost on mobo's. Really appreciated the comment on audio level and also the white version motherboards 😁 Trying to build my first gaming PC and there are so many parts to research, you are a real help ❤

Thank you so much! This was the best video I've seen on the subject. Bought the MSI MAG B650 from Microcenter on the employee's recommendation, was thinking of going back to swap it for an X670, changed my mind after watching this.
I've just built a AM5 1440 Gaming rig, with MSI Tomahawk B650, 7600 CPU and a AMD 7600 XT GPU, its a beast, really quick, I 'm putting it to a 32 inch monitor, I get 170 fps with every thing set to epic on Everspace 2, I watch TV on it, its better than my TV on the wall, PS its air cooled with a Phantom Spirit Evo.
Absolutely great video, thanks Jason. I’m not currently building but use your videos to help friends and family that ask me for advice, as things change so much and I wouldn’t give out advice unless I had a good information source. I really like the Strix F board (especially as it is on sale in the uk at £209 right now) but I wish it had the Q-code reader (has helped me troubleshoot in the past) and a usb c header. The Strix b650e e gaming has these features for £269, but users need to be careful. If I’m not mistaken when M.2_3 is populated, PCIEx16_1 runs in X8 mode. Maybe not a problem right now but could be down the line for high end gaming builds. Just seems an odd choice to make as the second pcie slot may not be effected. This could be a topic to cover in an advanced builders guild. ‘’Understanding your motherboard’s connectivity and the importance of reading your manual”. Plus how to decide what features are important.
Been big on recommending b550 and 5600 combo... it's a no brainer for top end 1080p and it's super cheap. Win win for budget rigs, and can even do some 4k pretty well with a decent enough gpu.
Im new to PC gaming, my current mid- high build is from 2019 with a 2080 super 8GB and i9900K. I know its an old build but the ray tracing on games is beautiful. Nvidia does offer more features and is king of ray tracing but the vram is joke for the price. A 7900XTX 24GB for $800-$850 or a 7900XT 20GB for $600-$650 is such a steal. I know prices fluctuates but still. In the end build what you can afford and what you want from it. Amazing video!
Didn’t watch this great video yet, but I was literally looking on your channel a couple of days ago for the best ryzen motherboards, y u do dis to me lol😂 thanks for top quality videos tho 👌🏾
AM4 is surprisingly still getting chip releases geting 2 more this year it seems so it's good to keep up to date on the boards available for the platform. For that reason bios flashback is mandatory for any AM4 board. I would also say that if rear IO is important to you maybe check out the B550M AORUS ELITE AX. Personally I got a good deal on a MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WiFi and still thinking of getting a add on card to slot into the 3.0x1 slot to shift some of my devices closer to the bottom of my case for organization of cables and to free up the better rear IO ports.
About PCIe and m.2 slots, pay close attention to board diagram in the motherboards documentation. On some boards, if you slot a m.2 into the top (sometimes also the fastest) m.2 slot, it will half the bandwidth of the top PCIe slot (often the one with the reinforced PCIe slot intended for a heavy GPU) from x16 to x8 mode, wich can make a slight difference, especially later down the road when more powerful GPUs and things like DirectStorage will want all the bandwidth they can get.
Wow that's a great deal on that MSI Pro B650m MB! It's very close to the same price for the B550 MB's. Great time to upgrade to the Ryzen 7000 series CPU's!
I watching and comparing with one of the best stores in my country and damm, we paid a lot more for those MBs. Thanks again for these videos, amazing work!
Thank you for the Video... it was the best i always banged my head over how to choose a MB but thanks to your exellent video now i have a better idea what to look for in specs ❤
First of all, thank you for the great videos. 2 I have a nice Ryzen 7 5800x 32Gb RAM in an X570 Steel Legends, although I know it is a very good PC so far, I took advantage of a super offer from Newegg and bought a Prime x670p Wifi for only 135usd (taxes included), I know it is not the best x670 but at that price I could not resist
I have always considered a 50 board better for serious overclocking, by far, and a 70 board for connectivity for workloads, as the basic difference between the two. Both are good for general use and can overlap depending on the quality.
this video was really helpful. Im helping my friend get a pc and seeing that amd is best for price to performance im going with amd for him. I have nvidia and intel buils so learning about the amd cpus from this video made me understand the cpu and mobo combos better. Thank you Jason for being here to help me :)
Suspect timing again, was looking at the last motherboard guide, and found this one only hours after I last looked. Great as always Jason! And if you don't mind, can you please make an updated PC cooler guide, since the last one was in mid 2022?
I built a PC for myself and my son for Christmas, he has the Aorus Elite Ice and I have the NZXT N7 since we both wanted white aesthetics. I will say that the Aorus has more USB inputs but the NZXT is more pure white and the Aorus more silver. Both really good boards for our 7800X3Ds!! I will add that the NZXT board is a little overpriced in my opinion but I really wanted that white build.
For Zen5 remember there are 28 PCIe lanes. 4 are reserved for taking to the chipset(s) if you are 670 chipset is really just two 650s chained onto the same 4x PCI chipset lanes. The other 24 lanes are normally diveded between 16 for GPU slot, 4 for main M.2, 4 for second M.2 the final 4 are either a PCI slot (often a x16 slot but only wired with 4 lanes) a 3rd lane or on a handful of bards they use these for a 40gb/s USB4 port.
Well, Gen 5 PCI-e slot is far from useless if you are going to use next gen GPUs. Nvidia 5000 and AMD 8000 series onwards most likely will use gen 5. That is later this year or 1H of 2025. Also, x670 has a lot more PCI-e lanes. Meaning B650 boards are going to disable connections if some other connections are used. So B650 actually can't use as many m.2 slots as advertised as slots. Also some B650 boards actually disable half of GPU slot. So you are getting 8x GPU if you use that another slot for anything.
Yep, paying the extra for PCIE gen 5 now was worth it to me , rather than tear my system apart to change out a MB that has gimped my upgrades in two years time.
@@tonydalimata When I built my new PC last summer, E and non-E versions were about same price aswell. Those still are, unless you compare budget level boards with higher end. Makes that decision pretty much no-brainer.
I'm so lucky that the board I chose for aesthetic reasons (to pair with my 5600x for my first build) just HAPPENED to be a B550 with pcie 4.0 and a flashback button It's incredible how much more I have learned AFTER my first build! Your videos are so awesome!
Hey Jason, I want to thank you guys for these amazing videos you uploaded. This channel helped me a lot to understand what kind of PC I want, how it works and how to build it. I built my PC a month ago, and it works perfectly fine. Currently rocking a 7800X3D + 7900 XTX and I couldn't be any happier! :)
I got the ASUS TUF x670e-plus wifi and happy with it. When I was looking the I/O is what really sold me on it. I didn't like the orange coloring but with my LEDs set to red you can't even see the orange at all so it worked out.
All this time I've been listening to your channel I've never heard you review the Asrock B650 livewire motherboard. I did a lot of research and landed on this motherboard for my build. You talk a lot about rear USB ports and the livewire has 12 total. I paid 149.00 for the board. It's an awesome board and wondering why you have never spoke about it. I'm running the livewire with 7800x3d with the rx 6700xt gpu and have been running an average frame rate of 136 fps on Avatar with a 144 hz monitor.
Amazing video as always! I've learnt so much thanks to you! I bought my Asrock b650E Riptide last Black Friday for $160, very nice board with PCIe 5.0 in it and Wifi, no complaints, has been working perfectly!
I think you are highly overestimating how fast people have been upgrading saying that "most" people dont even use sata ports anymore. I think most people are still on sata and a high portion of people are still using hard drives. M.2s are still very new for almost every normal people out there.
Anyone reading this just be advised that the B650 Tomahawk for some reason has a really slow boot time, but if you want 6 PWM fan headers I think it's the only board that offers that many.

@zoro_dxdi am also thinking same either 4070ti super or 4090 with 7800x3d , but not able to find the motherboard
To be honest, as long as it causes no problems Im happy
asus TUF GAMING
Is the windows CD key really legit?
Yes I used his code like 2 months ago when I built my new pc
@@j.birdie no issues? How’d you download it if your pc is brand new? Put it in a flash drive or something?
Just upgrade from I7 10700K to Ryzen 7800X3D. Best decision ever. Pair it with my 4080 super. Love it
asus bad
Im still rocking my X570 Dark Hero, love this board. It will go down as one of the coolest motherboards ever, IMO.
I have a B550 in my 2020 build, with a 3800X and a 3060Ti. Im kind of astonished that the B550 is still on the thumbnail image for a "best Ryzen Mobo's in 2024" video 😅
Recently updated to 5800X3D, and im looking to go next gen Radeon when 2025 rolls around.
i have been rocking a r5 2600 and gtx 1650 since 2019-2020 and was hunting for offers to upgrade and finally today i got a b650E riptide for 116USD and a r5 7600 for 209USD couldnt be more happy
I looked around for a few days, trying to decide on my new AM5 motherboard... I ordered one yesterday.
Today I found the video.
I was happy that I landed on the b650 Tomahawk after watching this video,
thank you
Glad to help! (:
Thank you for explaining how to read ALC audio, good to know bigger number better.
I haven't built a new PC since 2001 when Athlon XP and GeForce 3 were top notch. Watching this video has gotten me up to speed in an excellent fashion. After 20+ years, I'm getting back into the game. Thank you for such a comprehensive overview
Welcome back!! So glad we can help
@@PCBuilderChannelMSI Tomahawk looks like a good middle ground, premium audio and good price. Thank you!
Thanks so much. Congrats on the upgrade, onward and upward!
keep up the good work mate
Thank you! Glad its helpful
This was super informative!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
WOW! My head is spinning! But I love the info! Subscribed. Thumbs up.
Thanks so much for the sub! Hope you keep enjoying all the content :))
Got the B650 Tomahawk a few months back on my first build. I really like it and decided to forego the Micro Center bundle with the Gaming X AX to get this mobo and the lower CL RAM of my choice
Hi. Are you using the onboard audio on the Tomahawk or a sound card? Thanks.
Thabk you so much. Just ordered a 7900xtx and just figuring out a couple more parts before i gwt them all ahha.
Happy to help!

Indeed! Mr. Bear approves ;)
Perfect timing i was getting lost on what the best MB was right now. Thank you sir. 👍🏾

i watched your last best ryzen motherboards video and nothing changed in my plans, you just made me double lock in my choice for my first gaming pc
All right! Glad to help confirm (:
Thank you so much! I got CPU and GPU figured out but am lost on mobo's. Really appreciated the comment on audio level and also the white version motherboards 😁 Trying to build my first gaming PC and there are so many parts to research, you are a real help ❤
Do you have any questions?

need a b650 with spdif output and Proper quality. not gonna overclock. issue is so many positive And negative reviews for every possible mainboard....
putting the Ryzen 7 (x3d) in it and a 4070 gfx card
Thanks so much for the video! I was struggling to find a good b650m board for my build. Now I have one.

coming from an i5 10400f ill go for the b650 rog, and a 7600 non x! will be a huge upgrade for me! thanks for your videos!
Thank you so much for your video. I really appreciate you taking your time for the community. very informative as I'm building my first gaming PC.

I just built the 7800 X3D with the Gigabyte B650 Eagle and it’s amazing. 700 fps in valorant at highest setting ❤
Congrats on your build! And thanks so much for watching!
Brilliant video with honesty at the forefront. Allowed me to pick out the next motherboard to grab for my upgrades. Thanks so much!!!

I can easily find my way into other parts no problem but motherboard is where I struggle because there's too many things to look out for and their names won't give out there actual specs. I'm thankful you have a comprehensive guide like this
Its a lot I know! Glad we can help
Thank you so much! This was the best video I've seen on the subject.
Bought the MSI MAG B650 from Microcenter on the employee's recommendation, was thinking of going back to swap it for an X670, changed my mind after watching this.
So glad we could help!
Hello!!! Im not an english speaker, but want to say AWESOME CHANNEL i have like 6 months looking for a good YT channelt that helps to fix the builds!
Hey Jason, nothing to add to your great vid, just wanted to comment to thank you for the great advice you give!
I appreciate that! So glad you enjoyed!
I watching and comparing with one of the best stores in my country and damm, we paid a lot more for those MBs. Thanks again for these videos, amazing work!
So I searched randomly "PC builder motherboard". This dropped 23 hours ago lol. Certified fresh
Amazing, great timing! Glad that worked out :)
Great video, I follow a lot of YT tec, chans and its nice to see you dont forget those without unlimited budgets.
Thank you! I try to cover every budget for people
Thank you for the Video... it was the best i always banged my head over how to choose a MB but thanks to your exellent video now i have a better idea what to look for in specs ❤
So happy to help!
Why does Jason post the perfect videos for everyone at the perfect times, thanks so much
I'm in your head, listening to your thoughts . . . :)
this video was really helpful. Im helping my friend get a pc and seeing that amd is best for price to performance im going with amd for him. I have nvidia and intel buils so learning about the amd cpus from this video made me understand the cpu and mobo combos better. Thank you Jason for being here to help me :)
Awesome! So glad we could help!! You might want to check out our Best Builds March video too, there's some great sample Ryzen builds there
Suspect timing again, was looking at the last motherboard guide, and found this one only hours after I last looked. Great as always Jason!
And if you don't mind, can you please make an updated PC cooler guide, since the last one was in mid 2022?
Well, what coolers are you looking at the moment?
Would love a similar video but instead about coolers (both air and liquid) for ryzen cpus !! :))
Wow, really nice detailed video, very thorough and with timestamps. Thank you so much, this was very helpful.
Thank you so much! Glad you appreciated this one, thanks for watching :)
Both boards are awesome and if aesthetics is a primary build driver, then those are the boards to get!
What dou you think which one to buy?
MSI Tomahawk Wifi or Strix B650-A or Aorus Elite AX?
Great video!
Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed it!
Preach, I got the Asus TUF GAMING X670E-Plus WiFi 6e, PCIe 5, 2.5 GBps Ethernet, ATX Motherboard. Love it.
@@RichardBejtlichI want to buy the x670e tuf, have you had any problems with it so far?

Nice! Check out our 9800X3D Build Guide on the channel for more
I'm so lucky that the board I chose for aesthetic reasons (to pair with my 5600x for my first build) just HAPPENED to be a B550 with pcie 4.0 and a flashback button It's incredible how much more I have learned AFTER my first build! Your videos are so awesome!
Your videos are always amazing man. Keep doing what you're doing!
Much appreciated! So glad you're enjoying them, and thanks for watching :)
The depth that you go into on these videos is spectacular and you explain things very well. Great videos.
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedstock
That's awesome! Congrats on your build and I'm so glad we could help. Thanks for letting us know it means a lot
I got the ASUS TUF x670e-plus wifi and happy with it.

I think you are highly overestimating how fast people have been upgrading saying that "most" people dont even use sata ports anymore. I think most people are still on sata and a high portion of people are still using hard drives. M.2s are still very new for almost every normal people out there.
Very well done video, perfect, concise and helpful. Thank you very much and well done
Much appreciated, glad you found this one useful! You're very welcome :D
Anyone reading this just be advised that the B650 Tomahawk for some reason has a really slow boot time, but if you want 6 PWM fan headers I think it's the only board that offers that many.
Very well explained sir....hatts off🙏
