I Bought a Land Rover LR3 at Auction! Did I End Up With a LEMON? [Part 1]

- I bought a 2005 Land Rover LR3 (Discovery 3) at auction. It was listed as having a bad transmission, but I suspect it might be an easy fix. I also consider doing a diesel swap to make this a unique, efficient, and reliable vehicle for cross-country adventures.

Don't make this video a lemon, give it a thumbs up!
I’m kind of feeling the name “Cordelia”. A little bit dark and mysterious, but also royal and sophisticated
I like it!
Thats a good name!
And a great song by The Tragically Hip 🍁
The name Cordelia I always associate with Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. The younger daughter of the Marchmain family, Cordelia had a strong Catholic religious sentiment, but was too wilful to become a nun. Instead she devoted herself to helping others, and drove an ambulance in the Spanish Civil War, so might be said to have had an appropriate spirit of adventure.
The epic Granada TV series was filmed at Castle Howard, a truly massive stately home which stood in the for the eponymous Brideshead. Given it's location, it's a natural home for Land Rovers of all types.
So, yes, Cordelia is a great choice.
nb. for a little bit of romance, Phoebe Nicholls, who played Cordelia in the series met her husband to be, the director Charles Sturridge, on set in 1981 and have now been married for 35 years.
It's so good to see you taking care and restoring this rover. I reckon the LR3 will be a classic one day, such a timeless design and in my eyes it still looks really good!
I’m really looking forward to watching you work through this project. Also, such good fortune with the transmission being a simple fix! 👍🏼
Thanks! Though I bought it sight-unseen, I had a good feeling about the transmission 😬
Great respect for your bravery! Taking on a broken Land Rover is no small feat, especially one from past the all mechanical era.
Loved watching this! I grew up being driven in these around the Home Counties, north-west of London in the 2000s. My step-dad had two Discovery 2s (pre and post facelift, both V8s) 1 Disco 3 (a V8 like this) and 2 Disco 4s (both Diesel as LR stopped offering the petrol versions in the UK). He’s now departed from tradition and got a Diesel Defender 110.
These are honestly great cars and if you avoid some of the electric issues, are pretty reliable. I must have done dozens of cross-continent road trips down through France and Italy over the years and I can’t imagine there are many cars that eat up the miles more easily.
I look forward to ‘binging’ the rest of the series… 👍🏼
I have a 2005 LR 3. It now has 325,000 miles on the clock. I love my Lanny because I've looked after her. A few problems, but what car doesn't. Distrust the government. Avoid mass media. Fight the lies. Look after your vehicle and it will look after you!! A
Wow, that's a lot of miles! Yeah, if taken care of, vehicles can last a long time! 👍
Yes!! I have the popcorn at hand for the binge on this series! Awesome stuff 👌🏻
Just found the channel! This is going to be an awesome build series can’t wait!
Your version of deductive-reasoning with the name selection process you went-with for the LR3….yeah, won my sub. 🤙🏻
As a Brit myself, thought it was great you giving the accent a go lol!! Subscribed!...looking forward to the series! All the best.
Haha thanks for the sub!
Great job, though I don’t have a car, I can’t stop watching your videos
Incredible work 👍 from 🇰🇪
I popped the popcorn and watched.... WHOLE SERIES... :D
Looking forward to this build!
Thanks Cody, same here!
Finally new LR3 video on youtube. Will be interesting to follow. Now,i can tell you what issues you have to solve and how much it will cost you,but im gonna leave it to you-its a fun project and good look. Best car you can own .
This is my favorite channel by far!
Hello from Cheyenne, WY!! I'm from Maine originally, family is from New Brunswick & Quebec. I love your videos and especially love the European cars vids the most. I only drive German and the Mercedes were heart-breaking gorgeous! I've never gotten around to Brit cars, but the Land Rover videos were so impressive and I watched the 6k mile road trip vid with the Range Rover, those got my wheels in my head spinning! Yes, I'm a lady gear head, love my 4x4's, my Jeeps & trucks, but the Euro cars stole my heart!! I really do hope you keep buying those gorgeous Euro luxury vehicles for more inspiring videos!!
I have a similar 2006 LR3 SE , in Tonga Green that I purchased at auction. Mine had an air suspension problem that I attempted to resolve but never could get right. I eventually purchased a coil over replacement kit from Atlantic British that forever fixed the issue.
My vehicle has 156k miles, but runs great. The parking brake issue is not uncommon, and you may have taken care of it short term by accessing the shifter, there is a manual release cable in there that you can pull or just lube it like I did and now it works fine.
I really like the Jag 4.4 engine, and think you will too as you fiddle with the vehicle. Its plenty strong and has alot of get up and go. The transmission shifts well and the 4x4 system is one of the best I've found.
Good luck with the build, whichever way you go.
Thank you! Yeah, It would feel a little weird pulling out a perfectly good engine, but there's something special about doing an engine swap -- having a vehicle unlike any other out there on the road
I used to have a green LR3 just like this! Love these cars, I have a LR4 now
Oh nice! I've always thought these were cool vehicles, though I never thought I'd own one!
She looks like a Wanda to me!! Great video Waldo. Looking forward to see more.
Thanks, Brian!
The E parking brake assembly is located under the under carage between the 3rd and 2nd row seat. They normally go out. Nice work and great video 📹 👍 👏 👌 😀 🙌
Yeah farmer friend of mine had his roll into many hedges and gates 🤣
Thanks for the info!
G'day from Australia I am new to your channel and have binge watched all of your videos mate. You have a great channel your work is amazing mate.
This is legit. I am picking up a high mileage LR3 tomorrow that I plan to do something similar with. It runs and drives fine, but I want better efficiency. My current daily is a Grand Cherokee CRD which I love but my family has outgrown it. I absolutely love the diesel engine in that thing. So much low end power, and 25mpg highway and that's with a lift and bigger than stock tires.
Oh nice, good luck with your Landy! Those Cherokee CRDs are pretty cool, though 😎
Cant wait to follow along
I too have just purchased a 2005 LR3, I don’t have your experience in most of what I’ve had to repair I’ve gotten information off of UA-cam, I am now subscribe to your channel as someday I would be interested in putting the diesel motor in my LR3. Did the front brakes with out issue and the only downside of my purchase was the dash, vehicle is from Florida and has multiple cracks in the dash. having a weight of most most 5800 pounds is great up here in the mountains of Colorado due to High winds! and the fact that the all wheel drive will take you almost anywhere is also a plus! I’ll be following to see where you go with this!!
I’m looking forward to this. Dude. Mercedes turbo diesel engine. Om606 can turn it completely mechanical no computer integration required. Super strong. Good for 600hp. Strong internals. 3lt Straight six
Thanks! Yeah, I'll definitely look into the OM 606 👍
Just watched a few of your videos. I have subscribed. You are a very clever young man.
I'm from UK 🇬🇧 👍 and wen u did a British accent my drink came out my nose and nearly wet myself 🤣🤣🤣 verry good job old boy very good show chap
Hahaha thank you, glad you liked it! 😂
looking forward to following this one. Your dog is beautiful. Ive a TDV6 in UK.
Thank you! It's too bad we didn't get the TDV6 here in the US, but I suppose I should view it as an opportunity to have a cool unique Disco here after a swap
Yes Yes and Yes for the diesel conversion! That is what I have been contemplating! Go Go Go! 😊🙂👏🏆
Hahaha I love the enthusiasm! 👍
@@WaldosWorld For the engine, how about a discovery 4 engine as you might be able to swap computer parts for the terrain response system and such. I am excited because this is my hope in keeping the LR3 and you don't see enough diesel conversions out there especially for cars like this one. 🙂🎉
You sir, are something else! In a good way! Computer engineer, mechanic, welder, fabricator, and painter. As for the name, how about Hildegard? Dont know if you like brit coms, but Keeping up Appearances has quite a stout, robust, and quite uppity lady named Hyacinth. The Rover (car) is her personal vehicle. Her husband is a sensible man like yourself. I look forward to the transformation of her and whatever name you choose. Happy New Year, Bill
Hahaha thanks, Bill! Happy new year!
I had one just like that, even same color. The front sun roof leaked into the 4wd controls, and caused havoc. An the trim around the windshield would randomly fly off, and required constant replacement of clips due to the heat in the desert rotting them. It spent as much time in the shop as on the road, trans issues 4wd issues, sensor issues.
Its been in the 60's here Waldo. For us in Phoenix, thats freezing !🌵
Oh my goodness... 60 degree weather is soooo nice! 🙃
Brilliant cars yours is on the right‘colour. Love it.
You will need a air compressor for the suspension very easy to replace. You can swap for springs if you prefer but I wouldn’t
The engine to have is for a TDV8 OR 6 but not sure you will find those in the US I’m in the UK good luck
Yeah, I definitely plan on keeping the air suspension. Unfortunately, the TDV8 and TDV6 weren't available here in the States and I haven't yet found any available here, so I think it'll be a custom diesel swap 🤠
Just found you, going to enjoy this project as I have a 2006 LR3 myself, with the frame being of the most concern now. By the way, Betsy is a great name after Queen Elizabeth II.
I'll definitely be interested on integrating the "new" engine to the rest of the computers. Most people will just a rip everything out and keep it simple but hardly anyone goes to the trouble of integrating the new engines to the rest of the car.
Greetings from Portugal.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of full integration, gauges and everything 👌
@@WaldosWorld I wouldn't swap it right away. This engine sounds pretty smooth. It would be interesting to get on a trip with it and get real numbers. Diesel might not even worth it
I love the looks of these. I just wish they were more reliable the car in general not just a motor.
Looking forward to more Disco repairs. My vote goes with Wanda.
i cant wait to see this swap!! If my LR3 engine goes out, I would do this too!! Keep us updated!!
I'm excited as well - stay tuned!
You do know the Jag S type - type R has a ultra quick V8 engine In it/ swaps / twin turboed and huge horsepower..
You picked a good challenge for your skills.
Enjoyed that!
I would call him Sir Richard! 😅 love your channel Waldo.
You could fit a BMW M57 engine in it, they already did have them.
i like your professional seat at the end
My 1994 Merc W 140 S is called BEASTY, My 2006 Range Rover Sorts is called GREY GHOST as it's got a Matt Grey wrap on it. Think you should wait till you done a few more repairs before you name her. Mine had some very unpleasant names until I managed to fix them
I have identical vehicle and year... hand break push down to release and up to engage ....why change to diesel the V8 is solid ..New to channel take care and stay safe ( UK ) ...stereo is superb !
Yeah, the petrol V8 definitely seems solid, but I'm looking for a cool project that'll make good content. Plus, I love diesels! 👌
I got a p38 200K gonna use it to drive from LA to NYC.... Got a whole new set of Blizzacks... fun times ...
Nice, it goes to show that older vehicles can be dependable if you take care of them!
Looking forward to part 2! This has been my daily driver for last 35,000 Miles. I'm not sure why would you do a swap especially engine only has 131k. I'm on 155k and I will retire her in a year and basically store her for mountain craws and hauling (my dream of a small boat). I am meticulous about maintenance and so far she served me very well. only unexpected issue was a leak in coolant reservoir and costed me few hundred $. given the age of the vehicle its not a big deal. I am in NYC and my MPG is 12 (BP ultimate)....
I named my last Jaguar Arya since she was ever so sleek and fast :) keeping up with GOT tradition, I named this one the "Beast" :) Once you get her sorted, you will see why Beast is ever so appropriate. Give her a sturdy name, she will serve you well.
Also, are you sure it's not an HSE? I didn't know SE had third row.
Thanks! Yeah, it does feel a little weird ripping out a perfectly god engine, but I'm sure someone else would love to have it, either to refresh their Land Rover, or maybe to swap into a project. Personally, I really like having vehicles that are special and unique, and swapping an engine, while a bit impractical, is a good way to accomplish that. It also makes good content for UA-cam 😉
It's badged SE on the back. I think the 3rd row seating was an option 🤷♂️
Gertrude would be my name pick using your English accent with it. Engine choices will be interesting. I’d think 2.8 or 3.3 Cummins but think height and weight would be an issue. Maybe a wrecked diesel Chevy Colorado? You’d still have to deal with computerization. I think it’s cool that you’re a computer engineer plus fabulous welder and mechanic and fabricator. Just need to cook now. Lol. Love all the room and cookie pockets Aspen has. Lol. Thanks for sharing Waldo and I wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Thanks, Pete! I'm pretty sure one of my previous cars was named Gertrude (I don't remember if it was my GTI or S4), but it's a great name! Happy New Year to you as well!
The parking brake is ON if you pull the lever and OFF if you push it. In addition to that, the parking brake goes OFF as soon as you put it in a gear and start accelerating (In the cars with an automatic transmission) if the parking brake works as it should. There is also a manual emergency cable in the middle console to free the brake in case of a failure which is unfortunately quite common.
Thanks for the tip! 👍
Good job 😀
On discovery 3 ‘s the hand brake always locks up if you go in dirty water unless you clean it out every time you go in deep water
Interesting, thanks for the tip! Luckily I don't really need the parking brake, it's just a technicality for passing the state safety inspection 🤷♂️
Lizzy - after Queen Elizabeth who loves a Land Rover and used to be seen driving herself around her country estate. She was also a mechanic during WWII and is reportedly a dab-hand with a spanner.
If you can get one, it would be awesome to see a Land/Range Rover V8 diesel in the States!
In EU there is even a 3,6 d that is fited in this chassi on the Sport model, and a 4,4d on the Vogue model. and bouth are oem
HI,I own a LR4 here in Scotland ,lr time is a good subscriber on youtube it is a Guy in Germany who runs and repairs His LR3.
Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out!
I have a 2008 Discovery 3 V8 SE with 84k on it. The Discovery diesel engines are a horror show I suggest looking up the reliability of them. The 4.4 V8 from 2005 to 2009 are great engines even better than the 5.0 that are in the Discovery 4. Depending on the mileage on your Rover I would do the basic flushing of all the fluids, radiator flush, transmission flush, front and rear differential flush and transfer case. You should be good to go. It's a great truck goodluck with it.
Thanks for the tip on the diesel engines! Yep, I'll be doing all the fluid maintenance in upcoming videos 👌
Great British accent there Waldo ! , Well Edna would be a British name I could put forward , whatever you decide will be the choice for me , computers now there's another thing I gota learn , everything I have need warming up , valves and knobs to tune , no what I mean , thanks for the film , be watching for more !
Thanks, Steve! I like the name Edna... I'll have to add that to the list!
Swap the engine for BMW M57N, one of the very best Diesel engines in European market and this engine should mate with ZF gearbox very well. It is fuel efficient, reliable, powerful and easily tunable for even more power (above 300hp). As for a name, I would go for Charles.
Im excited for the build. Honestly i would run the v8 till it dies.
Yeah, it feels weird ripping out a perfectly good V8, but it does have one major problem: it runs on gasoline 😂
Great video, nice linkage replacement. It’s like new now.
Why replace the engine? Isn’t the V8 Jag engine pretty good? I like the idea of diesel, especially a Benz engine. Looking forward to see this unit getting fixed up and operating like new.
Thanks, Scott! the 4.4 V8 is actually a pretty good engine, but it's more a matter of preference for a diesel. Also, it'll make good UA-cam content 😂
Swap your air suspension to shocks, I’ve had nothing but problems with my air ride, I even ordered a 1000$ set from California and it still dropped to the frame after a few months, the shocks that I got were 760$
The 4.4V8 AJ Jaguar engine in superb, leave it where it is!
As for name has to be Madge, short for Her Majesty.
It really does seem like a good engine! I'm just a fan of diesels and it would also be nice if the fuel economy and range were better 👍
@@WaldosWorld the engines are brilliant, check the fuel economy, you'll be surprised(unless its a shopping trolley)
I've had just in the 10sL/100km on runs.
86L tank you can hit 700s.
Margo was a character in a British comedy , it's definitely a Margo
The bmw m57 diesel is also a great option, and people have been doing it even in Russia, for the name I suggest Landy
I am on my fourth LR Discovery (a series 4) as they called here in the UK its the one after yours, I still have 2006 one like yours an S3 which has done 123,563 miles with the original engine (a Ford V6 diesel) and ZF transmission. The air bags have been replaced and other that just normal wearing parts brakes etc., You should it Wonder
Nice, you must like your Discos! Yeah, the Disco 3 does seems to be more reliable than Land Rovers of old, which is why I decided to buy one 👌
As they say in England... Brilliant! I’m really looking forward to the build - subscribed. Since you found an Olive Garden gift card and the vehicle color is olive, name her Olive? It is an English name.
Thanks for the sub! I do like the idea of going with an English name 👍
The TDV6 from the European market would be the easiest disel swap but I’d love to see the V8 diesel from the Range Rover! Plus the existing 4.4 V8 in that car is a solid engine
I took a look at the TDV6, but they're all in Europe and they're super expensive! I didn't realize that the Range Rover had a V8 diesel. If I could get one at a reasonable price, I would definitely consider it!
@@WaldosWorld v6 isnt only expensive its very unreliable. Lots of issues and difficult to work on. V8 diesel is a way to go and will fit in a bay. V8 needs to go with own transmision as v6 is different so look for both. Looking forward to see what you going to end up with. Good luck.
i have an lr3 with 147k miles since october. it's been a great car. and i hope you fix everything in case i can learn from watching your videos. i must say that the spark plug video was a shame because you didn't take your time in showing how to access the plugs or sizes of tools etc.
Thanks for the feedback! It's helpful so I can find the right balance of detail vs. hopefully not being too laborious 😬
Also your parking brake is an electronic parking brake and if it is set is all you have to do is hit the gas pedal and it will remove it
Good to know!
I have a spare blown 4.4 though so if you do keep the 4.4 let me know; I can ship you likely anything you need. Payment would be the vid series. Injectors, valves, cams, pistons...
Thanks, that's very nice of you!
I like your naming philosophy, we can be friends.
When you introduced this as a Land Rover bought at auction, and ask if you ended up with a lemon... I thought "the question answers itself"!
OK... you are pretty talented, and your are serious about this so here is my short list for you:
1. Don't do a diesel swap! No amount of time and money will result in a dependable vehicle, or save you enough on fuel to pay for the hardware you will need.
2. If you still want all the electronics to work together, repair / rebuild the original engine, trans, and AWD system.
3. If you want a swap that 'might' bolt up, check out a gen I or II Ford 5.0 "Cayote" V8 from an F150. Its 6-speed trans was based on the ZF 6AT built under license.
4. Trash the air suspension and auto level control, it will never work right! Hopefully, there is a coil conversion kit out there somewhere. Disabling the electronics... your wheelhouse!!!
The name? Since you seem committed to keeping up her appearance... Hyacinth!
Thank you for the comment! Even though the transmission fix was easy, all the other issues it had sort of made it like a lemon 😂
Mercedes om606 would be nice. You can fit a mechanical pump on those. Or go for a BMW m57. Also a nice straight six diesel
You getting the IID Tool? Great tool. The ZF6HP26X is pretty solid I run Mercon SP in mine. It's been deemed identical on the forums as LifeGuard 6 but much cheaper. The bridge seal is known to crack as well as the other 4 tube seals from the valve body to case can compress but super easy and cheap replacement. Do the pan conversion kit to separate the filter from pan and change those seals and as long as it's been serviced reasonably and kept full of fluid it's solid. The IID tool can clear the adaptions and do the re-learn drive procedure.
No, I'm getting the Nanocom EVO. Thanks for the tip on the Mercon SP, though I already bought Redline D6 ATF. Yep, I plan on doing the pan/filter conversion. After 131k miles, I assume it's never been done, which is a little scary 😬
If you're dropping the pan for the conversion do the bridge seal and tube seals.. whatever they're actually called. Super cheap and the bridge seal is a known issue. And case sleeve connector. Looking forward to learning more about my truck through your wallet and not mine.. lol.
Red brake icon is fluid. If it was orange it would be a pads low
Waldo , I would go with the name Hildegard it seems British?? , I think a V8 Diesel would be to heavy with that short wheel base , and the vehicle would not handle well , a three or 4 cly diesel would fit better and the truck will handle better.. I really enjoy you Channel...
That's interesting, I didn't consider handling. The 6.5 weighs probably 300 pounds more than the gas V8 it has from the factory
Got to be a name begininng with D. Dora !
Hey, I'm new to the channel and a new subscriber. I'm excited to see what you can do.
Welcome and thanks for the sub!
Well I also own the exact same car and I also use names for my cars. I am from the UK but live and work in the Czech republic with my Czech wife Lenka. But I also love my LR3. Her name is Mandy. Mandy the Landy. Simple. LR3 do have a bad reputation for going wrong. However, the things that go wrong are all regular items on every LR3. The same problems on every LR3. suspension, hand break, compressor, etc. If you look after her, she will look after you. Best used car you can buy!
Haha I love that name! 👍
How about Maurice, the original designer of the Land Rover. I own a 06 LR3 and it's a fantastic car to drive.
i have the 3-53 out of my dynahoe.....just saying! i think the volkswagon tdi or the mercedes disesl might be a good fit. i like "claire". "clairley she has been diesel swapped"
If only I could get my hands on a cheap dieselgate TDI, though it might need two engines to have enough power to move the vehicle around 😂
If you going to do a diesel swap, you'd be best of fitting the 2.7L V6, if you can get one cheaply enough, and the ECU, of course. Best of luck with it. I'm not sure how fitting a different diesel will work, as some of the terrain response settings affect throttle sensitivity.
The TDV6 is pretty expensive and hard to come by on this side of the pond, so I'll probably end up going with something else. Depending on what engine I use, I might be able to translate the throttle sensitivity on the computer end of things, but if not, I think I can live without it
The 2.7 V6 is a very unreliable diesel engine.
Felicity is suitable I think
With the front end being lower than rear its possibly the front air valve block thats faulty cause the front to drop down over night or over couple of days.
Thanks for the tip! Once I run it for a bit, Hopefully the air bags will fill up and then I can see how they behave over time. I also bought a Nanocom EVO, so that might help see what the computer says is wrong 👍
@@WaldosWorld if there is no air suspension fault showing on dash then it is unlikely to show on nano com but no harm in plugging it in anyway, also the hdc fault can be something silly as just needing a new battery as its common in these when the battery is old and worn it can flag up faults/errors due to low voltage.
In the U.K. these truck came with a every good V6 tdi.
Yeah, that'd be a cool engine to have!
We could supply you a complete take out engine and transmission with wiring loom from a U.K. spec vehicle, check out Globallandrovers on Instagram for our details.
WALDO LOVE YOUR STYLE!!!
Betty is a good British name for her 🇬🇧
For a name - Mary as in Mary Queen of Scott’s or Millicent. Both are British girl names around 1900’s. It’s a “British” car so....
Engine swap - don’t use the 6.5. Honestly that’s more of a truck engine and they are know to be LOW on power. They are also expensive to add power too. Bank’s is about the only company that makes reliable power adders for that engine and that’s kinda pricey. I would go with a Mercedes OM606 turbo.
Oh and if it would have been me buying that at auction, the trans fix would have been so lucky. It would have been “needs fluid change” and the gears would have fallen out when the pan was dropped. Good buy on your part!
Good call on the British names! A lot of people are recommending the OM606, so I'll definitely look into it. Yeah, it was a bit lucky, but I had a good feeling about it from the beginning 🤠
Olive garden? Hell yeah! free date night!
Haha it's only a $25 gift card, but it'll definitely help subsidize date night 👍
Press the handbrake button down , the handbrake should go off. As you have seen it goes off automaticaly when you move forward. Name Spencer one of the Wilks brothers. One of the founders of the Land Rover mark.
I have an 05 disco and named it Stu 🤙
Cummins 6bt. I hope you have a hoist, as even work on the turbo requires you to lift the body off.
I'm swapping an ISB into a GMC truck right now. It's a great engine, but big and heavy!
Getting to be a popular conversion here in the UK in both these and Defenders.
The 4.4 JLR V8 is a fantastic, bullet proof engine. Swaping a diesel is really not an upgrade for this.
Yeah, I hear you. It's more about ending up with something a bit more unique and special. Also, cool content for UA-cam 😬
@@WaldosWorld understood. Good luck then! I know people have made LS swaps before, but usually by giving up on air suspension (which is a damn shame) and the terrain response. I own a factory diesel LR3 (Disco 3) in Europe. I also think you would need another transmission (maybe the ZF used for a diesel), as the ratios are different... Manual gearboxes were also available for the diesel Disco 3s outside North America.
I know I'm late to the party, catching up on old videos. I think that you should name it Wanda. You said that you will be using this for long drives and off road. So you'll take it for a wanda (wander).
Still wondering if you plan to do a diesel swap? What engine do you think you will put in it? I have a plan do get a LR3 myself and do either a LS or diesel swap. For the diesel, I'm thinking either the Cummins R2.8 or the Powerstroke 3.0L
I changed my mind.. do an LS swap. That would be the most likely swap any other North American owner would do and the integration that you'll bring to the table will be a major benefit to the community.
Looks like you had better luck than me just finished an engine swap on my k2500 and it’s knocking😔
Ooh, that sucks! 😕
I’m sorry if this is a redundant question, but, what OBDII reader did you choose and why? Is it only for the Land Rover/Jaguar brands or is it universal?
I've been wanting to find an old land cruiser to diesel swap. Maybe a Mercesdes OM606 or VW TDI
Yeah, I'm definitely going to look into the OM606!
I have two sedans with its younger common rail brother the om648. I actually have a spare om648 that came out of one of the sedans. Suspect bent con rods due to hydro lock from the story I was given. Its down on compression. It would be a neat swap to but common rail is a bit harder than the om606 which can easily be made fully mechanical.
@@WaldosWorld yeah you can reach diesel-pump UK on UA-cam he is a great om606 mechanic
I would do a duramax if it would fit, would make a great tow daily car, i will follow the 6.5 is more a less the same size. The parking brake could be a bad calibration on the electric motor.
ua-cam.com/video/b6Zmqq5_DUc/v-deo.html
check this
A Duramax would be cool! Also, thanks for the link on the parking brake!
