That and the fact that they set up a tank and the same day added that many fish to it. You have to give the nitrogen cycling bacteria a chance to establish themselves.

I felt bad for him when they said he scares people. I feel his pain. I'm a big guy, and my natural facial expression is kind of a grimace of sorts. Never judge a book by its cover. I'm a big teddy bear who would risk my life to help anybody. The majority of big men I have known have tender hearts.

I find pretty often in KN USA that they’ll take like one small instance happening and then turn it into a narrative or character ark lol, so in this instance him not getting the cooks to work? Well he didn’t have a backbone before and now he’s grown thanks to Gordon’s involvement.
Probably didn’t even go down like we see, there’s so much sneaky editing where they’ll literally chop up sentences into entirely new ones, but eh, it’s fun all the same.
It is only natural that he should do well at school.
I dont think anyone thought he wasn’t acting like the head chef all the time. The comment made is rather a response to the fact that he finally has more saying in the kitchen, which he should have had from the beginning 🙏

Jack's Waterfront aired on November 06 2008, the episode was filmed in March 2008.
Jack's Waterfront closed in December 2010.
Jack's reopened as Dockside Jack's in March 2011.
They sold the restaurant back to the previous owners and it became Brownies on the Lake in April 2011
I think even this closed and its called as HOOK right now.
So they were literally handed a gold mine but they still screwed it up?

Those fish were probably all dead within a month, especially the bettas. Their tanks weren't cycled, heated or filtered. They didn't last long in there.
No animals should be used for decoration like that. I hate when restaurants have fish in bad tanks...

The head-tilting thing Scott is doing with customers is subconscious body language. It's to make him appear less intimidating. He's obviously quite self conscious of the fact that he probably comes across as scary to a lot of people.
I thought the exact same thing, the poor guy was trying to look less intimidating. In the end I was rooting for him, he's a caring and sweet man

I think its a mix of that plus... a frozen shoulder injury. Happens when you dislocate the collar bone lifting too much weights and not taking enough break between to let it heal fully. I've seen it in my line of work

As someone who handled a Kitchen before I can vouch 200% that this kind of thing happen in real life.. Some guys will not follow you just because you are younger, New to the kitchen and such heck even if the owners thrown the words already that I will manage the Kitchen.
Some people just take Jobs too personal and thinks that the Kitchen is their territory.

I have had several older cooks tell me to my face they don't want to listen because they have been cooking "since before I was a twinkle in my dad's eye". Same problem moving up. We just hired a mr lean chatterbox as a sous. I have to train him to do the sous job because I am doing it; however, he is 36 and I am 24 so he must be better lol. That and young cooks out of school wanting CDP with 0 experience. Ego comes young and old, kitchens take in a lot of stragglers so you dig through a lot of shit to find some decent guys.
Truth! Such a capable chef, too, which has always been kinda rare for this show.

Seems like Scott is getting scammed by his business partners. One of them is paying his father, AJ, $100k just to get hammered and dance.
Nobody mentioning that moment when Scott step up and kinda disciplining the entire kitchen staff for Aaron? I think that's a real gentle giant in action right there. He make himself 'scary' on the right time on the right place. And even Aaron acknowledged it.

The "general manager" and the lazy, useless line cooks were sinking the restaurant. The owners and the chef were pretty good actually.

the way you look, your gestures, facial expressions, body language, etc. they all affect the way people feel and act towards you.. Scott just needs to improve these aspects, like smiling a lot, keeping a straight posture, avoiding unnecessary staring from the distance, etc. that will bring out the big teddy bear inside him 😁

My guess is that Scott was trying to fix the place and put in line those good for nothing, but the two others owners push him aside to protect the old drunkard. They knew he was right, so they hired Aaron, but without authority and with the drunkard still on the floor, he wasn't able to single-handily redress the kitchen.

And his food wasn't poorly cooked, he 86'd when he found bad rice. Bit bad esteem it seems, looks down to the ground, can't meet GRs eyes, stutters when people don't take command etc. Recipes and his line was shit, Im willing to chalk most of what was returned to them to that. Kitchen cleanliness was fairly good compared to other episodes, but 7 weeks in and reigned this hard.. Unleash Aaron, get him at least one great and loyal af line cook and he will rule his kitchen

I’m always in awe of Gordon. He always reluctantly forces people to do the right things. That is such a measure of patience that few chefs have in their tool chest. Our business is tough and it requires like minded people to call a spade a spade. Gordon brings out the best of people and shows them the road to success. Not many like him in our business.
Chef Aaron has got to be one of THE MOST genuine chefs I have seen on this show so far.

It feels like a sit-com. Three body builders who buy a restaurant together. The biggest and scariest of the three is actually the gentle giant. The evil father running the business and manipulating his son. The sassy chef who wants the restaurant to do good and the wait staff who just don’t care.
The first restaurant owner who accepted that his food was the problem.

Almost every episode, the problem is some middle aged chef who has been in the business for years and refuses to change their methods or admit there is a problem
Scott isn’t scary! He’s a great solid dude. Very polite and listens to Gordon and responds immediately to his feedback. He cares about his business and you can see how happy he was when Tammer his partner gave him a compliment.

Uh no, customers don't call the other 2 partners and complain about Scott for no reason. Scott did back Aaron up, but that's in the kitchen, AWAY from customers. Scott put up the most money, but got booted from the front by the other 2 partners for a reason.
Lol there's a lot of footage of Scott using his size to intimidate people. Sometimes he does it in ways that we agree with, other times he does it in inappropriate ways (like with customers). I'd be scared of a guy like that, personally.

Scott is undoubtedly one of the most misjudged owners ever on this show. I'm glad people were able to see he's actually a nice guy who was willing to accept change and not just some scary hulk looking dude picking a fight.
Notice that Scott did not deny that he scared customers away. That was an ugly side of him that the show did not reveal. It looks like he's learned from his lesson and that's the part that we got to see, and that is commendable.
It was so nice that he backed up Aaron, too. 😢 Scary exterior, but he's a lovely chap.

People like that are well liked behind the scenes as they can snap you out of a problem, but you know that, when shit hits the fan, they are there to protect you too.
Jack’s Waterfront closed in December 2010, which was around two years after the Jack’s Kitchen Nightmares episode aired on TV.
Shortly after the closure, it reopened under new ownership as Dockside Jack’s in March 2011.
However, it was permanently closed after a month and the three owners sold it back to the previous owners.
As of 2023, a restaurant called Brownies on the Lake is operating in the previous Jack’s Waterfront Michigan location.
They have returned back after 14 years and are operated by Andiamo Restaurant Group.
Gordon just casually snowmobiled to the restaurant. What a legend.

This was the most heartwarming episode I’ve seen
I grew up in St Clair Shores and ate at Jacks many times during the 90's and 00's. It was a nice place at the time and its sad to see what happened to it over the years. I was born in Michigan and after military and university I moved to the Philippines in 2012. Seeing Jacks during the winter reminds me of how much I hate Michigan weather.
Scott coming into the kitchen to kick ass genuinely moved me to tears. Everyone needs a Scott in their lives...

@@jennyB07 It sounds weird, but I genuinely did. I've had instances myself where in a work situation I have not been taken seriously nor respected by anyone working under me. It can be ridiculously frustrating when you're just trying to do your job and getting others to do their job too. I guess seeing someone, especially someone who was being portrayed in the show as a knucklehead, come in and save the day just hit me.

@@millerhxc it's the same for me. I have one crew that respects the hell out of me and will do anything I say without question. And it shows. Then I have a second crew, full of teenagers, that just don't give a shit. Don't listen, screw off, take long breaks. Doesn't matter what I say. It's frustrating as fuck. My boss finally came down one night, saw it happen and finally did something, screamed at the useless twats and while 4 of the 7 quit, the two that actually listened and wanted to work stayed.

I really appreciate that Gordon recognizes when owners are lying about their chefs having control. Same things with many other videos I've seen, the owner/manager will blame the chef for cooking shit food yet won't let the chef change the recipe or technique to actually make it taste better.

I'm gonna tell you from experience, going bare faced in a cold snowy environment in something that is at least slightly high speed is the biggest fkin high u can get, fck coffee, fck coke, the rush you get just gets u hard. I still miss my trips to Antarctica and doing 6 hours straight supplying the bases via Zodiac boat.

Yh he's a passionate chef he just needed to impose his authority on his staff. A head chef doesn't only cook food but acts as a leader in the kitchen.

I love all the three owners. They're all really nice. No one ever did cursed or fought back to Gordon. And also Aaron, I think he is the best head chef ever in this show.
They fucked up, before you open a business you should work in it, one guy should have worked in a kitchen another in service the other maybe the bar for 4-5 years minimum before considering to open up a restaurant.
there is a head chef i think is better, its the head chef from the runaway girl restaurant. it was a pretty good episode i recommend

In the weeks that followed, Aaron was given full control over the kitchen menu and staffing, two cooks were fired and two new experienced sous chefs were hired.
A.J. was eventually fired, making space for a new General Manager.
Jack's Waterfront closed in December 2010.
Yelp reviews after the episode filmed were mostly positive, the handful of negative comments were on service.
Jack's reopened as Dockside Jack's in March 2011, Yelp reviews were good but it closed after just a month.
They sold the restaurant back to the previous owners and it became Brownies on the Lake in April 2011 and Yelp reviews are mixed.

All in all, this was a beautiful story of three good friends that are also business partners. Interesting characters and very entertaining episode 👍🏻
I felt sorry for Aaron. He wants to serve people good food. When he looks Chef Ramsey he’s eyes are shining. That is loving what you do.

aj was truly the anime villain of this episode. he essentially took advantage of the fact his son was inexperienced in the restaurant field and used it as a way to get a paycheck for doing nothing productive. the fact that his son felt so bad about potentially firing him just shows how manipulative aj was since he knew he was protected by his son's guilt.

These three guys are very lucky to have THE chef like Aaron. Probably the only restaurant of all Kitchen Nightmares where chef is actually a professional who cares. Wonderful guy👏 And these three jocks despite being big and looking threatening are actually very soft and agreeable guys, never contradicted Gordon

@@creamy9626I know loads of gym addicts that are arse holes, it’s luck of the draw tbh. Testosterone is a hell of a drug and it most certainly increases your emotions and makes you more irrational. While sport can be very therapeutic it’s definitely not a cure all, ffs one of the guys had to be removed because of his outbursts to customers. The change he made was fantastic but it’s down right delusional to ignore his previous behaviour
