For those looking for the paragraph guy, the restaurant lasted another 10 years successfully. Then the owners were offered a large amount of money to sale. They took the offer, new owners closed down, and rebuilt a new restaurant in its place. Money won at the end.

As a native New Orleanian and former server, I hate how so many people saw Hurricane Katrina as an opportunity to buy their way into New Orleans culture. It was kinda predatory how so many new restaurants popped up or out of town owners purchased existing restaurants. With all of the documentaries about Hurricane Katrina, hopefully someday we’ll get one that focuses on how Hurricane Katrina ushered in one of the most historic gentrifications of the 21st Century.
Sadly it happens with every disaster. Vultures will fly in and take what's left until nothing is left and leave the carcass behind.

A lot of people in the service industry keep in touch long after changing jobs. It's a tight industry because its intimate and intense, and you figure out who your friends are fast.

It's hard to drag your employer into court for being a shithead, but it's real easy to do so for failure to pay wages. That's the only kind of thing vultures like these owners care about - "could we get sued for that?"

Plus he has closed many of his own restaurants down. He’s failed before so he knows what doesn’t work for restaurants. The only reason why he’s successful despite those failures is he acknowledges those failures and mistakes

My boss did that to me. Took his family of 6 for 2 weeks in a villa in tuscany and none of us got paid for the next 2 months. We actually had to go to this asshole and ask to be paid from about 3 months after he took over. Its the 1 and only job I've ever walked out on. I ran the place and it closed a year later.

Update: Restaurant closed 1 month after the makeover and before the episode aired. Owners sold due to health issues. Zeke's was sold and closed for good by October 2012.

Their is a fast food at my town that give me free food sometime... its probably not the same thing because its a fast food but they sure know im coming back
@@jakpote88 a restaurant messed my order up and when I talked to the server about it the chef himself brought me my food with a little extra portion. It's a local restaurant and obviously they have to keep the customers happy, but that's how to run a successful business. It's not rocket science.
A friend of mine ordered a food in a fast food restaurant, messed a bucket of friend chicken (not the flavour of chicken they wanted)... but the food was already delivered and opened... the store manager contacted them because their order was still in the restaurant... and told me friend to have the bucket of fried chicken and they will deliver his order of bucket for free. Now that fast food restaurant is their family's go to place...
@@itsmrdante6274 There is a fast food restaurant i order food from like 4-6 times a month. They mess up sometimes with forgetting the fries or the drink - i don't even care about that. I know they have a shit ton to do bc they're so absurdly popular due to their amazing tasting food and customer service that they have to CLOSE the restaurants almost every day due to having too many customers. Their amazing food and super friendly staff makes up for small mistakes. And it works. I recommended them at work and we now order every now and then with 15-20 people. Their niceness brought them 20 customers just from me alone.
There are many people who believe the only way to make money is with an "angle", some way to trick the person into paying more than the actual value of the thing they are buying. They also think the only value in gaining someone's trust is so that you can then get one over on them more easily. It's called the "zero sum game" fallacy: "the only way I can win is if you lose".
I like this one because it’s rare on this series that the chefs are super capable and the owners are keeping them down. The staff is ready to go once they wake the owners up.
I’ve worked for multiple restaurants with these type of owners. Everyone always lauds “small business owners” like they’re some kinda heroes, but a lot of them are just clueless, selfish assholes haha

Restaurant staffs are THE BEST. They’re a family and will stick together and fight for one another. I’ve never noticed such a strong camaraderie as there is inside a single restaurant staff.

Yes some are, but only a few INGREDIENTS not whole fucking dishes, pasta dough if you marinate it in oil first can be frozen and fresh meat can be frozen too but not for more than 2 or 3 weeks, and grinded meat can also be frozen but for a week at best then it looses all it's flavor, and that's basically all
I'm not a chef but thinking about it for a moment I feel like you should only freeze stuff that goes into a pan rather than the oven or water.

I had a manager that couldn't comprehend why our employee turn over rate skyrocketed when she took over management. If your restaurant staff is the same as before you purchased it and was successful prior to your takeover then maybe the problem is you.

The place is closed about a year after this was aired. I think after this, the owners just went back to their old ways and refused to maintain what Ramsay did. I believe they used Ramsay as a way to promote their dying restaurant.

I am a home grown country girl, and I’m honestly just shocked at the arrogance of the new owners. You can’t buy a well known country restaurant and then destroy the entire reputation and culture of the menu.
There truly is nothing worse than a toxic petty work environment where arrogance, disrespect, and condescending attitudes are normal. It develops paranoia and shame, knowing you could do much better, but you're basically stuck.
I hate the forced owner redemption arcs in some of these. It's clear that these owners don't give a shit about the restaurant or the staff, so the sudden change of heart at the end is totally unconvincing. Feel bad for the staff.
They fake it to get the freebies by Gordon, the decor, equipment etc. Then when he leaves they go back to being exactly the same as before, and hope the freebies and reputation they got from the show brings back customer. And it always ends up failing after a few months or years, because cutomers won't pay for shit food no matter if the fucking Pope once ate there.

I've never seen Gordon like any dishes in the first round anywhere. That was nice that he liked the bread pudding.
The tiramisu from La Galleria 33. The carrot cake from Bazzini's. The red velvet cake from Blackberry's and the clam chowder from Handlebar. And of course, there's the whole menu from Mama Cheri's from the UK version.
I recall he also liked the crab from Cafe Hon, but the dish also came with shrimp and he didn't like that. So half a point there.
I love the genuine support these employees have for each other. Candice recommending Bread Pudding that she knew was good, made Emil who made it so happy, and the other chef Jason was genuinely happy for him too. These little fist bumps that they do just warm my heart!!
Totally agree, she 100% recommended that so Emil could show off something he actually had influence over. This is how all workplaces should be, having each others backs ❤️ The owners face though 😂 priceless!!!

In all seriousness, while Darryl's sense of taste for food did initially irk me, kudos to these guys. Zeke's shut down when Ellen was diagnosed with cancer, but once she recovered, they moved on to open a new place called Luca Eats. And they're absolutely crushing it right now. So good on them.
*Sad update:*
Zeke's closed only a year after this episode was made. There is a different restaurant there now. Hopefully the staff went on to find employment that made them happy, even though it would have been sad for them seeing the restaurant close :c

Makes me wish Gordon would have bought it. Of all the restaurants on the show, I think this one had the most potential as it was fully functional, no dirty kitchens or incompetent chefs, just bad owners. They had a great and talented team. The seafood made my mouth water.

I mean if they are used to eating mainly frozen food junky disgusting food and were nowhere near fresh food ofc they'll think that they are serving some gastronomical heaven xD but no tbh I really feel like owners should have known that if they view frozen food as amazing and no one else is agreeing with them they shouldn't even be in the restaurant business or at least leave the food part on their chefs. But because of being greedy and having no self-awareness, they ruined a great restaurant.

when the two guys got emotional about their pay and treatment it really hits home for a lot of us in the service industry. when you work with the same people, especially in a tight knit restaurant, you become family. & it becomes hard to leave even though all of you deserve better but that love and loyalty holds you back 😞💔

It's the first time I felt heartbroken for the staff. They didn't only have to lose so much to Hurricane Katrina in one of the worst-hit areas, they also had to see their career go down the toilet. The previous owner died, their workplace became a dump, and their resumes were destroyed by the new shit quality of a place Zeke became. It's been closed so they had to go look for jobs elsewhere probably after it was already too late. I wish they left a lot sooner.
I feel sorry for Zeke. He would be devastated to see what his restaurant looked like tyen

Ramsay cleaned up the place by adding fresh dishes to the menu and a revamped dining area. The changes worked, and customers left Zeke's much happier. So, over a decade later, is Zeke's from Kitchen Nightmares still open? Sadly, the answer is no.
