I think, those early 2000's videos especially safari is really one of the most imteresting videos. They should post more videos like that in sorted wrc 2001 videos. I would be the first one that will watch at least 4 events a day. :)

They don't make them like this anymore. Safari gone, Acropolis gone, Cyprus gone... almost all the rough gravel rallies are gone. Now modern drivers whine even Portugal or Sardinia is too rough...
the heart of rally is lost. Used to be road cars tuned up a bit and hammered fast as ya could get that bucket to go, now its cars built from the ground up to do rally, just doesn't feel the same.

These roads raised me... I used to school these parts of the world... 1995s,94s, . I still have a photo of my plump me standing next to the spotter helicopter... Funny my 1st car is a 2nd Hand Mitsubishi Mirage 1999 which I am hoping to upgrade and do trips around East Africa and document my Safaris... I already have 1st Episode up. Good times WRC.

Once Fabia WRC entered the stage it was basically the 'Loeb show' anyways. Also remember Skoda Motorsport was tiny compared to the other teams financially

It doesn t matter Safary, Turkey, Finland, Sweden there will be always causalities. My point is teams will always find way to adapt to new type of rally or new terrains. Some may do better than others.
The Rally of Portugal, Rally Safari and Monte Carlo are rallies that should never be missed . Should have some stage of rally at night, it would generate much more emotion and difficulty.
It is interesting. The old days were great, but WRC is amazing after Volkswagen's withdrawal and the introduction of new cars. 2017 had 7 different winners, last year 3 drivers from 3 different teams fought for the title till the last round. The same trio of Tanak, Ogier and Neuville are seperated by 7 points at the moment! What's not to like...

So how the Rally Championship works is pretty simple.... Car manufacturer enters their desired car model (must be in production) into the competition after meeting all Specifications and vehicle safety requirements (Roll Bars, Fire Extinguishing Systems and all). With that they have a Rally Team with group A and or group N cars participating.... for instance Hyundai, Ford, Toyota, Subaru, and the list goes on..... Once they're all set, Drivers and Co Drivers are selected based on experience and prior Rally performance. Then comes the competition itself where a 4000+ Km (approx 2500 Mile) course has been prepared with all stages ran on closed roads allowing for the Rally to carry on without traffic or wildlife etc..... Each stage may cover a distance of about 30 kms (19 Miles), which non of the Drivers or Co Drivers has any idea about because it remains with the organizers. The Stages have a given time to beat..... for instance a 30 km Stage would have to be covered within 15 mins or less, otherwise the driver ends up disqualified loosing points for themselves and the Team. They refer to that as being Time Barred.... So since Speed =Distance/Time, the Rally Car would have to be travelling at 120 km/hr or approx 80miles/hr on rough terrain (30km ÷ 15mins = 2*60mins= 120km/hr) to qualify for the next Stage!!!!! Once the cars are Flagged off on each Stage, the Driver depends on the Co Driver for coordinates to beat the clock (30 slight right, max jump 100).... 'angles and speed', not knowing the exact kind of terrain to expect, so the pit crew has to be precise on the tires and suspension.... Sure. WRC should bring back Rally Raid in the calender. Unfortunatelly African safari Rally could be dangerous because of terrorism. WRC has to find new places, maybe South america, or maybe oceania..
