Couldnt be further from the truth...we have our own rally championship www.nation.co.ke/sports/motorsport/Safari-Rally-season-begins-in-Nakuru/464918-4299652-rpvuakz/index.html
The Africa Eco Race takes place with no trouble since the Dakar moved to South Africa. Rallying has always been popular with the locals, you might as well not hold any sporting event in the world for threats of terrorism if you think that way. F1 teams had more trouble in Brazil last year than rallying ever has in Africa...
Tame Naken i love finland but monte and safari are in another level maybe the old Rac gets closer, but finland even if its high in my priority is at the same level as new zealand very high on my list but not on the top
They will back soon - Jean Todt recently went to Kenya and give a support on the bid for 2020. But what I afraid is the future WRC Safari would be not as same as classic Safari, more like Safari in 2000s
One more thing! WRC Cars should be banned, and top class cars for WRC Rallies should be build on old A-group rulles - with simple suspensions and tires, making them go sideways on tarmack like on gravel. IT WOULD CUT COSTS, and it would make the sport way more spectacular, and MOST IMPORTANTLY - it would create new legends in serial cars like the iconic Lancia Delta Integralle, Toyota Celica ST185 or the most popular of them all - Subaru Impreza. Look at this this way: when You go to a rally stage to spectate You see two types of cars - rented ones driven by spectators who flew to the event from their country, and old Imprezas, Foresters, Lancers from local fans etc. Rally fans need civil-rally models. Ok we got Yars TGR, but it is FWD, and has hardly eny simularities to the WRC spec.
Actually there's a problem with that, Group A racing literally cuts costs for about two years, then the homologation specials start rolling in, and the costs jump up, that's the main reason touring cars snd rally cars moved away from Group A
What do You meen by "homologation specials start rolling in, and the costs jump up"? I don't understand it. If You must base a car on a production body, chassie and engine, than at some point the evolution should be banned for a year or two, like in F1, and the problem is solved. Compareing N-group cars of the mid '90 and late '00 the changes are way to big. Bigger brakes, complicated diffs, sequentional gears - thinks, that should have never benn alowed in N-group. Now top class R5 is very expensive, not mentioning WRC. And back in the '90 a A-group Escort, Celica, Impreza were reasonably cheeper then their current equivalents. Even in poor countries like Poland we have had up to 5 A-gruop and 15 N-group cars on national championship. Now we gest 3 R5, 5 N-group, 2-3 Proto , no WRC. Rally was better to spectate in the '90.
You do reallize WRC spec exists because Group A got to expensive, a homologation special is a car made purely so that a racing version is legal, hence why we have cars like the Impreza WRX, BMW M3, Nissan GT-R, etc. What ends up happening is the costs of constantly developing a new evolution road car just so the race car is legal becomes too much for the manufacers, and they all start to bail, it happened in touring cars when Group A was replaced with Supertourers, and it's the same reasoning applied to why Group A in rally fot replaced by WRC
ech... I hate economy :( ok ok ;) Well I knew, that the early WRC cars (1997) were to reduce costs, but I still don't get, why there wasn't another way to stop cost rising, and alow us-fans to have roadgoing civil cars like the mentioned by both of us WRXs ST185s COSSIEs. I would soo much love to get a RWD, or 4x4 compact chatch that represents a WRC car. Of course we still have the Impreza, but since Subaru dropper WRC, fans still love only the pre 2007 models - and those are slowly becoming ageing cars. Why is it not possible to make restrictions for development, so taht production cars would have to be a base for a WRC car? I know, that is not a question for You, but really... WHY? I currently drive a Forester 2003, which is a normal, not exciting 4x4, but the only reason for me to buy it in the first place was to have a SUBARU - the ultimate rally brand. I must think of sth bigger now, for I am about to become a father for the secon time, and a uprised Impreza (which Forester basecly is) is to small for a familly of 4. Never the less, as I buy a big familly car (which is NOT going to be a suv, but a typical stationwagon, or a van as I hate suvs) I would love to get my self anothe car just to drive do work in it. I will propably buy a Yaris, or an i20, as Fiesta is to expensive, and C3 is just soo ugly it hurts my eyes, but aside from the name and the badge on the trunk nothing in my future city car will be like the WRC. My Forester has more in common with Colin McRae 1995 Impreza than a new Yars with a Yars WRC - and that is a sad conclusion.
Bringing Safari back on new modern rules will not be the same. It will be another Mexico, or Cyprus, or Turkey. Don't get me wrong - I am ALL FOR SAFARI to come back, but if it does, then some of the other mentionet rellies should be replaced by fast tarmack rallies, like SAN-REMO, or POLAND (IN ITS ORYGINAL LOCATION IN SOUTH OF THE COUNTRY).
Either KNRC or East Africa Safari Classic recently posted, to bring safari to the WRC. The comments was filled with argument/conversation of today kids attention span. That a Safari is too long, & the kids are the WRC's focus. I disagree, it may be more expensive & more time consuming but produce a doocumentary. Or to cut cost look at the dakar. Each team had their own "vlogs" that varied. Find a way to combine them all *legally* for the day results. My atention span was all over the place as a child, now I didnt have cell phones or internet. But something like that grab me. I was focused to that event, it was still all over but 100% to that event or similar
My name is peter I live in Peckham London I am 57 years old and formerly From Kenya in 1973 I saw two things happen In kenya 1. Kenya celebrating 10 years of indepentece 2 Safari rally sweet to see
This is what the WRC should be about. Different event formats, different challenges, over all continents. The Safari is a must-have on the calendar!
Won t be possible because of isis and bokara.
WRC isn't soccer. I'd be surprised if anyone in Africa even knows what 'WRC' is. Not a tempting target for terrorism.
U know why Dakar Rally was smoved to South america ?
Couldnt be further from the truth...we have our own rally championship

With the security situation down there i don t think it will ever happen.
More like the safety fetishists in the FIA (including Todt) won't let it happen. The security situation is as it ever was.
Actually Todt himself went to Kenya few days ago to oversee (i hope this is the right word) the Safari bid. It means he support the bid. Nice troll.
Jon petter please familiarize yourself with the continent it’s much larger and complex than you’d ever imagine...Kenya’s perfectly peaceful
he misunderstood kenya as part of Dakar which were cancelled in 2008
Please bring it back!

Espero que algún día vuelva el safari rally.
PLEASE MAKE A FULL DOCUMENTARY OF SAFARI RALLY!!PLEASEPLEASE
"affordable mordern rallying" - exactly my humor. It's a shame that there is no event as the Safari Rally nowadays in WRC.
You re right
Most likely cancelled due to political unrest and threats of violence. Same as Paris-Dakar.
While they are at it, something like group b. They need this to get factory teams from porsche and audi again.

one thing which made Safari out after 2002 was the cost. Not just for specialized cars, but also few things like spotter helicopter
wish they could bring it back
We want safari rally back!!!
I hope it will be back!!
It is not "LanZia" ... It is LanCia from Vincenzo Lancia!
