Balthazar is not a demon but a half-bred as we saw in the liqueur store scene where is faces changes and the clerk's wings appear as John explains it all to Angela.
My friend and I snuck into the theater to see this…We had zero idea who Constantine was or that he was a DC character etc. We just thought the trailer looked cool. That was such a good decision hahaha it became one of our favorite movies of the time.
If you haven't seen it yet I recommend "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams, that film is pretty incredible and has a very unique depiction of heaven and hell, just a warning it's very emotional.
This isn't in another universe. Its the same as Batman and Supermans universe. Batman kinda knows about the supernatural and Superman doesn't and they both don't believe in the supernatural until John shows them in most stores.
Spear of Destiny aka Spear of Longinus. The spear that a Roman soldier used to pierce Christ's side at his crucifixion. His blood sanctified the spear. That soldier became Saint Longinus. Gabriel was resentful of humans because they have free will, but angels are subservient to the will of God.
Apart from not being British and not having blond hair, I like this underrated film. The Spear of Destiny aka The Holy Lance, also known as the Lance of Longinus (named after Saint Longinus), the Spear of Destiny is the lance that pierced the side of Jesus as he hung on the cross during his crucifixion. There is an extension to the film where you see Kramer become an angel.
Constantine is one of my favorite movies. I am surprised they never made any sequels until just recently? That there will be a part 2. Don't know when though.
I think some people when they saw this film failed to understand that water in Constantine's universe operated as universal conduit in the sense that it was a medium allowing easier transport for a person's spirit to other realms/dimensions of existence and not the physical body necessarily; which would explain why a ceremony like baptism holds so much significance in religious institutions. But in Hell, since there is no presence of water the common medium available to demons or inhabitants there of to escape is through means of possession of physical bodies on humans plane of existence. I am certainly anticipating the sequel for Constantine and I wonder if Peter Stormare will be returning to reprise his role.
- There was also a TV series "Constantine" based on "Hellblazer" that lasted 1 13-epicode half-season before being cancelled. This was retroactively incorporated into the CW Arrowverse of the "Arrow" and "The Flash" TV series', with the actor who starred in the "Constantine" series reprising the role as a guest star in episodes of "Arrow" and "The Flash", and eventually becoming a regular cast member on "Legends of Tomorrow". Additionally, when Constantine takes Flash and Green Arrow to Hell, the actor playing Lucifer is the same actor from the FOX series "Lucifer" (3 good seasons by FOX + 3 crappy seasons by Netflix, all 6 seasons on Netflix). "Lucifer" is based on a Dark Horse comic (owned by DC). - The actor who voices Constantine for the cartoons, like "City of Demons' is the same one from the TV series and from the Arrowverse. - The actress who voices Vixen for the cartoons also plays Vixen when she appears in "Arrow" and "The Flash", and the actors from "Arrow" and "The Flash" do the voices for their characters in the Vixen cartoons. - There was also a "Human Target" TV series that lasted 2 seasons. Christopher Chance also appears in the Arrowverse shows.
also while playing the same charecter there are 2 versions of Constantine one Keanu plays and one played by Matt Ryan who has played him the most times both in animation and live action
Keanu said in an interview if he could make a sequel to any of his movies he would make a Constantine sequel and with marvel just trying to find a role for him in their universe it put pressure on dc to maybe do it wasn't box office gold but became a cult classic so maybe possible
the "life he took" was his own, in the religious view, god gave life and to throw it away by smoking and taking his life when he was younger is what gabriel meant
constantine first appeared in the comic book swamp thing in the mid 1980s as a guy that knew the dark side of the paranormal but was pictured as a semi bad guy that manipulated people and should not be trusted..i had all the comics when i was younger
This is one of my favorite Keanu Reeves movies even though it wasn't a big hit at the box office. And the second movie is on the way we don't know if it's coming out 2024-25 this character is popularity has skyrocketed in the last few years. Matt Ryan's portrayal of the character which had his own short lived TV show and also was on Legends of tomorrow and even crossed over with Lucifer. I believe this is made the character a lot more mainstream. I've been reading about Constantine forever great comic book character the comic is called Hellraiser. Great review guys as always
Constantine would be a darker version of Dr Strange, both use magic and spells, Strange uses magic from higher deities like the eye of agamotto/time stone John uses a weaponized version of the Bible, He does supernatural magic and exorcisms than reality altering magic like Dr Strange John is more chaotic good, he kills but still has some morals since hes more religious but does bear guilt when passing judgement/executions thus his moody acting in this movie and constant smoking
It's always been funny that biblical God is present in the DC universe through the Hellblazer stuff and Constantine but just doesn't to my knowledge help with stuff like Darkseid. Kinda hard to jive with the existence of beings like Superman.
the thing about the elevator is she said Going down and he said not if he can help it as in he wont let her go to hell. also should read dante's inferno it is considered a accurate description of the levels of hell. balthazar is also one of the Devil's Commanders or like a right hand man (I believe)
Constantine, magic, Heaven, and Hell all exist in the DC universe the same way they do in the Marvel universe. It's all there, it just takes different skill sets to deal with. People like Constantine, Zatanna, and Dr Fate handle supernatural and magical threats in DC the same way Ghost Rider, Scarlet Witch, and Dr Strange do in Marvel. Hope that helps a bit!
23:43 Jane: *_"Wow, that was all it took?"_* Trivia: That piece of fabric/cloth Constantine burned was supposed to have actually belonged to Moses. So it would have been ever rarer than the dragon's breath artifact he was given ealier. -Hannibal King is probably the closest thing to Constantine in Marvel, but he was created 10 years before Constantine was. The only live action version I've seen is by Ryan Reynolds in Blade:Trinity. -Chas Chandler was Kramer in the comics was older and based in London. He was a brawler and knew some martial arts. He was a taxi driver and was served as Constantine's driver and bodyguard. Also one of his oldest friends. -Constantine falls into the Supernatural. Justice League Dark handles these things cause the regular Justice League can't...
Constantine (2005) in the DC Multiverse, takes place on designation Earth - 205. Each DC movies and tv shows either take place on a different earth or same earth. For example, the movie The Batman and tv show Stargirl take place on designation Earth - 2, while the movies from Man of Steel to The Suicide Squad and tv show Peacemaker take place on Earth - 1.
Often overlooked, that final scene after the credits is actually what puts the entire film in perspective: The entire time, Constantine is operating under the notion idea that "God's a kid with an antfarm;" and was unaware that his own assistant - Chaz - was a half-breed. Even though Constantine could see angels and demons, God intentionally kept Chaz (and his mission) secret from John. The whole course of the film was actually God's way to let John redeem himself *while also* preventing hell on earth (and doing a little housekeeping with Gabriel). The ending entirely pulls the rug out from under John: God had a plan the whole time, and John - including his suicide, his 2 minutes in hell, and his lifetime of service trying to "buy" his way into heaven - was an integral part of it. Instead of "a kid with an ant farm," John sees the curtain get pulled back and realizes there's been a plan the whole time.
Also, I had seen this film about 5 times and it wasn't until a few years back I even knew about the post-credit scene since it wasn't common back in the day. As for Wonder Woman 84.....it is one of the few times I ever talked trash about a film (I usually just focus on the positive when speaking about films, even on my channel). It just didn't land well for me for several reasons. But...hopefully you two will find enjoyment in it that I didn't.
I'm pretty sure that the "skinny fellow with the fat friend" line was referring to Laurel & Hardy, a very old, very classic comedy duo who were in many movies back in the 30's.
Love this movie. Keanu and Peter Stormare are so good in it. They just announced a second one, it's been so long! What do you mean a little better (comparing a cop and assasin)!? And who's Justin? No the critter demon wasn't a full on demon, it was puppeteering those animals. He was talking about the demon in the girl trying to get out. Show the video? It's just looks like a woman committing suicide, what is Constantine gonna do with that? The part where she says his name only happened once and isn't in the actual video. Cats in mythology are very much connected to the divine, Satan and the dead.
Constantine is from the UK, specifically Britain. In the DC comics universe he is a magic user, not the most powerful magic user but pretty strong. His real strength is how clever and intelligent he is with his magic. He is descended from a long line of magic users. He is also known as the Laughing Magician. He has an ability called the Synchronicity Wave. Essentially he is always where he needs to be and when he needs to be. There's more to it but I don't want to butcher the information. He has tricked some of the most powerful beings in the DC universe. Some of them are as follows: God, the rulers of Hell, New Gods like Darkseid, angels, other gods from different pantheons, and many more. He fights because of something he did when he was younger. He let a demon loose to fight another demon. As payment the demon took a little girl to hell. He dates Zatanna Zatara. He does have a best friend named Chaz as well. You should watch and react to videos on how powerful he is and his backstory. He also gets a lot of his friends killed.
@SeeJaneGoTV What he meant by half in/half out. Cats walk and see between the physical and spiritual worlds. They can see ghosts, entities, etc. Dogs can do it too but cats are better suited and can see more.
Demons have never been humans and they were never angels. They hae always been demons. That's just one piece that religion has wrong and that's out of SO MANY!
In the Hellblazer series that Constantine stars in Chas is one of the only ppl to survive being Johns friend. A famous quote from Hellblazer is John saying "he'll kick your demons while they're down and do any and everything to save you, even if it costs every drop of your blood to do it". Known as The Laughing Magician Considered a master planner, Batman himself considers Constantine his superior in the art of planning things His story starts with a failed demon summoning that ending with Constantine holding the arm of the little girl the demon he summoned (to fight off something worse in order to save her) dragged to Hell as payment. He went mad and did time at Ravenscar Insane Asylum because of it. After getting terminal cancer he goes to Gabriel for help. Gabriel turns him down and after Constantine tricks the 3 Lords of hell(, 2 demons and what's theorized to be God's conscience, the First of the Fallen) into curing his cancer(by selling his soul to all 3 without them knowing that and forcing them to go to war with each other in order to claim his soul)he tricks Gabriel into sleeping with a shape shifting succubus and chainsaws his wings off after he is subsequently banished from Heaven.
I love this film. You guys where missing so much information about his past and why he is damned cause you where talking about random stuff and not paying attention. This is the first film watching with you guys where I literally told you guys to pay attention
I've seen this movie so many times and I never realized it was a DC comic! That's so cool! You guys should totally watch the Hugh Jackman Van Helsing. It's super underrated. You guys will love it 👍🏻 a great reaction as always. much love to you guys ❤️
The answer to the question is when Batman, Superman, etc. come across something supernatural that is too much for them or they don't understand they call people like Constantine.
Chaz Kramer is not in the comics. He was created for the movie. This movie drops so many clues to Chaz's secret ANGELIC nature, like... ...John treats Chaz like crap because he knows what he is. Chaz can see the demon in the mirror that drops on his taxi without being effected by it. Chaz can't get into the neutral club because he's not neutral. Chaz knows tons of demonic lore. Chaz made the Holy shotgun shells. Chaz blesses the water. Chaz blesses the woman with a prayer and is then killed. And according to biblical lore humans can go to Heaven but they CAN'T become Angels. So Chaz appearing as an angel literally means he was one the whole time. Now, if you rewatch the movie, knowing this about Chaz ahead of time, you'll see it all more clearly.
There is a Chaz in the comics, except in the comics, it's Chaz Chandler, they changed it for the movie becuase.....I don't know it doesn't really make sense
In order to recieve funding from producers certain aspects of the originals screenplay were changed. Studios had their own team of writers tweak the screenplay so that they can feel confident that an American audience would spend money to watch a comicbook movie about a character that isn't Superman or Batman.
@@TajimaMunenori While I absolutely loved the movie, it does deviate quite a bit from the original source material. Constantine is British, blonde, and always wears a tan trench coat in the comics, and I feel he talks a lot more than the Keanu Reeves version did. Also, they wanted to name the movie the original comic book title Hellblazer but the producers were afraid audiences would confuse it with Hellraiser, a completely different movie franchise.
But Chaz DOES get into the club, he just isn't a psychic and can't get past the doorman initially. Isn't he in the club when he makes the Holy Shotgun shells? And they are standing outside of the club with the newly made holy protection (shotgun shells, cross) when Midnight blesses him and tries to bless John.
@@alexziggyful Chaz can't pass the Doorman because there is more than just a psychic guessing game going on here. The cards, like Tarot cards but different, are designed to not only test for psychic abilities but, and this is important, to also test for one's neutrality. The cards have to be more than just a psychic divination game because then any ordinary person could just get lucky and randomly guess a card and gain entry. (The Doorman does show you the card when you get it wrong so eventually, with a good memory, one could simply guess correctly.) Remember, Papa Midnight's club is neutral ground, so, only Supernaturals capable of going both ways (like Vampires, Werewolves, Magic users or Halfbreeds,) can enter. Angels aren't Halfbreeds (A Halfbreed Angel would be a Nephilim and that's a whole can of worms you don't even want to open right now.) But, Angels are definitely not neutral. Chaz's angelic nature would compel him to help someone in danger inside the club, like how that Angel convenient store clerk tried to help Constantine's dying friend. Chaz being inside the club in the movie's third act was after closing, and with Papa Midnight's permission due to the severity of the pending situation. He basically makes an allowance for Chaz. Well that was longer than I thought it would be. But, I hope it helped. 😁
Constantine (Hellblazer) is DC Vertigo so it's not necessarily the same universe as Batman, Superman, etc. Vertigo is DCs line of more adult comics with drugs, graphic violence, nudity, etc.
I would say in order to find something Constantine like in Marvel, you would have to go into the Midnight Suns type of content. Maybe Elsa Bloodstone is similar??? I don’t know if one person is exactly like constatine😂.

Claw-foot tubs like that are not porcelain, they are cast iron covered with enamel. So for her to break it, she has to have been at least temporarily imbued with enhanced strength, and also enhanced resistance to not break her bones.
Pinky and the Brain! hahahahahaha It's Abbot and Costello.
If you quit smoking for 7 years, you MAY have normal lungs. Most of the time, depending on how long the person has been smoking, and how much, there can be scarring to the lung tissue that will not heal properly, resulting in permanent reduction in lung capacity/function.
48:44 OMG, I never caught that and I've seen this movie like a dozen times! Good catch!
Starting to watch now, and hoping they watched the post credits scene.
Edit: ✨️💛
It isn't about "being good" it's about having complete "Faith" guys!
Wasn’t there a post credit or deleted scene with shia’s character ending up an angel?
The "skinny fellow with the fat friend" was a reference to Abbott and Costello
Balthazar is not a demon but a half-bred as we saw in the liqueur store scene where is faces changes and the clerk's wings appear as John explains it all to Angela.
grew up watching it with my dad and love it and can't wait for the next one to come
Masterpiece ever. Constantine is very underrated but is very great film. Greatness
Definitely.👍
This isn't in another universe. Its the same as Batman and Supermans universe. Batman kinda knows about the supernatural and Superman doesn't and they both don't believe in the supernatural until John shows them in most stores.
Francis Lawrence is so underrated, this was his debut film
we need a "JUSTIN!" counter lol
Spear of Destiny aka Spear of Longinus. The spear that a Roman soldier used to pierce Christ's side at his crucifixion. His blood sanctified the spear. That soldier became Saint Longinus. Gabriel was resentful of humans because they have free will, but angels are subservient to the will of God.
Turning water into wine 🍷
I actually didn't catch that.
So the half demon was doing a perversion at one of Christ's miracle.
Drum-roll --> Los Angeles; the City of Angels...
Watching their reactions for a while and I can see that Jane doesn't like a lot of things! 😆
She doesn't like feet lol
100% love for Peter Storemare playing Lucifer!
That was an entrance at the end! Oh my! 🔥🔥🔥
Peter Storemare is by far the best version of Lucifer out there, but Tom Ellis also did a great job. I cant wait for the sequel.
No love for Viggo Mortensen?
@@kartaan My personal favorite Satan, even above Pacino.
There's a youtube of different portrayals of the devil. Roddy MacDowall in "Fantasy Island" tv series was good, and Jeff Goldblum in "Mr Frost" movie.
You missed the credit scene of Constantine placing his lighter on Chaz's gravestone and the angel Chaz getting it.
We saw it
also while playing the same charecter there are 2 versions of Constantine one Keanu plays and one played by Matt Ryan who has played him the most times both in animation and live action
Oh, Justin, but oh JUSTIN! Justin?? F that!
I don't know how a couple can be this dumb. I'm glad they found each other
I remember a comic where it showed a bunch of multiverse versions of Constantine and one of them had dark hair like the Keanu Reeves one
Repentance is not a set of words you just say. It's not a dodge.
When you're living if you sin you have to ask for forgiveness before you go to hell , once you're there that's it, it's a wrap.
Keanu said in an interview if he could make a sequel to any of his movies he would make a Constantine sequel and with marvel just trying to find a role for him in their universe it put pressure on dc to maybe do it wasn't box office gold but became a cult classic so maybe possible
Fun fact: The bounty hunter 'Domino' is sitting in the night club scene
the "life he took" was his own, in the religious view, god gave life and to throw it away by smoking and taking his life when he was younger is what gabriel meant
constantine first appeared in the comic book swamp thing in the mid 1980s as a guy that knew the dark side of the paranormal but was pictured as a semi bad guy that manipulated people and should not be trusted..i had all the comics when i was younger
Oh -- The Devil's Advocate for sometime in 2023!!
She said I don’t know about you… 😂
57:11 The watch is perfectly lined up with the cropped circle.
Constantine would be a darker version of Dr Strange, both use magic and spells,
Strange uses magic from higher deities like the eye of agamotto/time stone
John uses a weaponized version of the Bible, He does supernatural magic and exorcisms than reality altering magic like Dr Strange
John is more chaotic good, he kills but still has some morals since hes more religious but does bear guilt when passing judgement/executions thus his moody acting in this movie and constant smoking
Dr Stange is more like Dr Fate
Dr Strange is the copy of Dr Fate from DC though
Would anyone agree Constantine is more like Ghost Rider ?
"Fighting fire with fire."
It's always been funny that biblical God is present in the DC universe through the Hellblazer stuff and Constantine but just doesn't to my knowledge help with stuff like Darkseid. Kinda hard to jive with the existence of beings like Superman.
@@scoobydoo229 I can see that. They both act too cool for school too 😎
You guys missed the credit scene with Chaz
Love from Argentina we love You guys!! Please demand a part 2
Watch identity, not only a fanomanal movie but also has that actor and it turns out he really can roll his eyes like that.
the thing about the elevator is she said Going down and he said not if he can help it as in he wont let her go to hell.
also should read dante's inferno it is considered a accurate description of the levels of hell.
balthazar is also one of the Devil's Commanders or like a right hand man (I believe)
Loved the reaction as usual but okay where did Jane get her shirt it’s so cute! I need one lol
Shocked to see jane knew about filipino culture like “mano po” 😁
It was the Juggernaut in X-Men 3 that also ran through walls and good memory remembering that part
Frick on a stick it's my new favorite saying of all time 😂❤
Constantine, magic, Heaven, and Hell all exist in the DC universe the same way they do in the Marvel universe. It's all there, it just takes different skill sets to deal with. People like Constantine, Zatanna, and Dr Fate handle supernatural and magical threats in DC the same way Ghost Rider, Scarlet Witch, and Dr Strange do in Marvel. Hope that helps a bit!
You didn’t see the post credit scene when. Well, I’ll let you watch it.
23:43 Jane: *_"Wow, that was all it took?"_*
Trivia: That piece of fabric/cloth Constantine burned was supposed to have actually belonged to Moses. So it would have been ever rarer than the dragon's breath artifact he was given ealier. And belonging to a Biblical prophet such as Moses, no wonder it incinerated/ banished a whole group of demons in a matter of seconds!
Instead of "a kid with an ant farm," John sees the curtain get pulled back and realizes there's been a plan the whole time.
the one that john talking with in church when you see the she open her wing that's angel name gabriel..only john can see them.
Cool chemistry between you two. More please reviews please.
The series starring Matt Ryan was pretty good as well. It only lasted one season but they worked him into The Legends of Tomorrow for a while as well.
I thought "Skinny fella with the fat freind" was Abbot and Costello.
@SeeJaneGoTV
What he meant by half in/half out.
And they actually do show it.
You got the edited ersion.
Archangel. And JACK AND THE FAT MAN was a great show. I love you guys.
In the Hellblazer series that Constantine stars in Chas is one of the only ppl to survive being Johns friend.
A famous quote from Hellblazer is John saying "he'll kick your demons while they're down and do any and everything to save you, even if it costs every drop of your blood to do it".
Known as The Laughing Magician
Considered a master planner, Batman himself considers Constantine his superior in the art of planning things
His story starts with a failed demon summoning that ending with Constantine holding the arm of the little girl the demon he summoned (to fight off something worse in order to save her) dragged to Hell as payment.
Dark detail about the ID tags around Gabriels wrist, they are probably trophies of people they have influenced into suicide at that hospital.
When I watched this I didn’t know what to expect and surprisingly liked it.
You may want to check out the series Good Omens (keeping up with Heaven and Hell theme 🙂) it's a fun series based on Neil Gaiman's book
I love this movie...thank you🥰🥰🥰
Chaz Kramer is not in the comics.
(The Doorman does show you the card when you get it wrong so eventually, with a good memory, one could simply guess correctly.)
Remember, Papa Midnight's club is neutral ground, so, only Supernaturals capable of going both ways (like Vampires, Werewolves, Magic users or Halfbreeds,) can enter.
You guys are too cute “Ohhh shucks Frick on a stick” lmfao 😂
I would say in order to find something Constantine like in Marvel, you would have to go into the Midnight Suns type of content. Maybe Elsa Bloodstone is similar??? I don’t know if one person is exactly like constatine😂.
