@@bazanime hahahahha I guess we truly can’t compare since none of us have proof! 😂 between 2005 and AT LEAST 2013 Van Helsing was on one of the channels in my country eeeeevery week and most of those times I couldn’t say no!
For me hands down the best ever werewolves and maybe even vampires, they actually designed them unbelievably well and made them terrifying, especially the werewolves. Nowadays both get romanticised and toned down or werewolves are just made to look like wolves whereas this film stuck to the rules and just made them brutal beasts! Unbeaten! Every aspect was brilliant.
I love that no one ever notices the actor who plays Friar Carl, the actor does such an amazing job at masking his greatness. Played by one David Wenham, aka Faramir from Lord of the rings! 🎉
Yes! I can’t believe I didn’t get the notification for this one, it’s one of my favorite movies! It’s not rated very well, but it has some of my favorite moments from any vampire movie ever, and I think for as old as it is, a lot of the effects still look great. Glad you guys watched it, I’ve never met anyone that’s seen it before.
I watched this with my dad and he got into it. He grew up watching Bela Legosi, Lon Chaney Jr and Boris Karlof versions of these classic monsters and afterwards i watched the classics version with him. He still enjoyed this movie especially the Wolfman and Dracula fight.
Well, that's weird, because as much as I love the design of these werewolves, these were the only werewolves that didn't scare me as a child (I also had that same irrational fear)
There's an animated movie which serves as a prequel to this one and explains the conflict between Van Helsing and Mr. Hyde. Plus Hugh Jackman still voices Van Helsing so pretty awesome. The movie is called Van Helsing: The London Assignment.
There is such a tradition - to review Van Helsing every year from the very moment you first saw it as a child and fell in love with literally each of the characters!!! 🫶
This movie may not be my favorite, but it's the one I've rewatched the most times in my life Don't really know why, just made my 9-10 year old self obsessed. Probably the scenery and aesthetics and the tone they set with it, which I really like to this day. I remember my favorite scene was the monk uncovering stuff, like that moving painting depicting the knights transforming into the creatures and when he folds the parchment that has Dracula doing his deal with the devil
I remember watching this when I was younger, and when the credits hit there was applause and screams of cheer. It'll stay with me. I heavy enjoyed this movie and still do.
Loved this movie when I was younger! Haven’t seen it in years. Love all the badass Kate moments, & would still say the brides are the most memorable parts of this film, I both wanted to be them & found them terrifying lol.
Also keep in mind, while they did change some things for this film, Van Helsing and Dracula are still mortal and bitter enemies. They have fought each other before. If I'm not mistaken, they faced each other quite a few times in the lore starting with Bram Stoker's book. But what I found interesting is that in a way, they're similar. The left and right hand of God and all of that stuff. I really liked the look of Van Helsing's werewolf form too. He looked so badass and mean. Loved it when he sharpened his claws at one point.
I just saw this and got SO excited!!!!!! One of my favorites as a kid. Anytime I didn't want to go somewhere as a kid I would tell my dad, "But daaaaad I don't want to go to Transylvania!"
I love how campy and over-the-top this movie is! It isn't all spectacle either - there's an emotional heart to it. It's one of my favs to just check out and enjoy.
In the masquerade scene, you can see the spoiler of the whole room being full of vampires when Beckinsale is dipped in front of the mirror and she's the only one visible. :D
Funny that you ask for a series, because in the book what the movie is based off, the medicine did not remove the curse or gift of lycanthropy. It just made Van Helsing able to control the werewolf form at will. Without the feral tendencies that come with it.
HECK YEAH :D Loved this movie as a child ^^! Had this on DVD and watched it a hundred times with my dad :) So many good memories. Love that you guys are reacting to his ^^
My brother and I's favorite movie growing up. We watched this endlessly. Still do every now and then. The creatures design in this is TOP NOTCH. I don't think there has ever been a better werewolf design.
You will hear from alot of people that the Van Helsing Werewolf design is one of their favorites if not the most favorable. If Underwolrd had these wereolves , Im sure alot of people would have watched it more because people didnt like underwolrds werewolves . Love Van Helsing ❤
I remember watching this movie in cinemas. It was a dark rainy evening, and I enjoyed the rain because it was so on theme with the movie. One of my most memorable experiences with cinema. ^^ Glad the movie holds up well to this day, in my personal opinion.
Always loved this movie. My grandpa took me to see it in theaters as a kid, and we had a great time together that day. It’s a memory I treasure now that he’s passed.
I would love to recommend “The league of extraordinary gentleman” because it has the same “vibe” and visual effects of Van Helsing. However I’m conscious that it’s not too popular among the crowd 🥴 Anyway, I love that film and it has a lot of literature references just like Van Helsing!
Glad you guys enjoy it! I had so much fun with it and the werewolf transition impressed me even though I was quite young back then and the story idea of Dracula trying to bring their children to life is quite interesting too. Might not be a greatest movie of all time, but surely a very enjoyable one!
One of my favorite Hugh Jackman movies. It really blew my mind to learn that Robbie Coltrane (AKA Harry Potter's Rubeus Hagrid) did the voice and facial motion capture modeling for Mr. Hyde. I love the brides, Van Helsing's werewolf form and the look of Frankenstein's Monster
I will never understand why this movie gets poor critic reviews. It's SO GOOD, especially for 2004. It's not perfect but for me it is, I'd watch this movie at least once or twice a month every year for years. It's a movie that never goes out of style and honestly one of the best dark fantasy movies to ever be created IMO. Forever a classic.
I love this design for werewolfs the most out of all media interpretations. They went full massive bipedal wolf monster instead of hairy dude with a messed up dog face and super strength. They took the most fantasy route with the designs and I love it. I also believe these designs directly influenced the vampire and werewolf designs in Skyrim aswell.
This movie was particularly special to me because I know the guy who drew the monsters for it. He did the monsters for both live action Scooby Doo's as well.
van healing is one of my favorite ‘campy’ movies - love that you guys had fun watching it! penny dreadful is a three season, 27 episode show that does the same thing as van helsing in combining different gothic stories/beasts: dracula, dorian gray, frankenstein, frankensteins monster, witches, and dr jekyll/mr hyde. it’s dark, but absolutely incredible!
Van Helsing character originated from Bram Stoker's Dracula, the most influential vampire fiction ever written. Which goes without saying, you should react to the movie as well! This a rare genre combining elements of steampunk/gothic, fantasy, and action/adventure. The other movie similar to this that I can think of is 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' (starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton!). The movie kinda went under the radar but if you guys like guns, that movie is a steampunk guns galore 😂 It's fkin awesome.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed this movie. It's definitely one of my favorites, the transformation of the wolves is the best we've seen in movies even until today!! And I still haven't gotten over Ana's death 💔 my cinematic trauma as a child lol.
If you guys love the monster genre, and if you are not afraid to watch something darker, you can react to episode 1 of Penny Dreadful (series). But be warned, not for the faint of heart, but truly a magnificent series and amazing actors.
Such a great movie. I remember watching it over and over when it debuted. And many years after! It was fun running through the castle and seeing the lab at Universal Studios in LA with those minions running around 😂
I loved this movie as a teenager. So many great lady characters. The monster designs were really neat. I now use the skin care line from the model who played Marishka (the blonde bride who dies first). She has an argan oil skin care, it works very well for me. As long as it doesn't involve blood, beauty advice from a vampire is pretty solid 😂😂😂
A bit of a bonus I know you'll like. Hyde was portrayed by the late Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) and Jekyll by Dwight Schultz (Murdock from The A Team) Carl (Van Helsing's monk buddy) is David Wenham, aka Faramir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I love the dialogue of Van Helsing and Carl about The Monster. "I'm staring at him! Is that a man?" "Several men! Parts of them, anyway." XD Edit: Also, Hugh Jackman Werewolf is hecking hawt. Velkin Werewolf, not so much. The initial werewolf was pretty too XD
Other than An American Werewolf in London, Van Helsing was the movie that truly made me fall in love with vampires and werewolves. A lot of people didn't like this movie but I didn't care. I loved it as a kid and I still love it now. I had the video game, the action figures, the soundtrack, and even a poster of the movie signed by Hugh Jackman himself! This movie means so much to me as an mythology fan and I'm glad you guys are checking it out
Yesss finally😭😭 My favorite supernatural movie the best looking werewolves with a tail ever on screen this is how werewolves are suppose to look Van Helsing werewolf is the best looking werewolf ever to exist!❤❤👏🏿👏🏿
From monster design to casting to writing this movie is just a blast to watch. Humorous, yet still filled with an assortment of feeling and action. The music also deserves an honorable mention. It's not by any means a great movie, but it's a solid watch with some incredible scenes and choices when it comes to world design.
This movie always reminds me of the first time I ever went to Universal Hollywood for Halloween. There was a Van Helsing haunted house you could walk through. Specifically Draculas fortress. The movie just came out, so it was very popular. At the end of the maze you get chased by a 7 foot werewolf that looked like the one in this and it was terrifying! The affects were amazing for the time. 😅 Had to have been 2005 or 2006. So fun. I think there’s still videos of it online.
Saw this flick in the theaters way back when it released it was such an amazing experience the structure of this film just feels like a fun adventure much like the Hellboy movie from 2004! I got to watch this movie in full it's been many years think I'm going to buy the 4K Blu-ray
Hell yeah! Been waiting for this reaction for quite sometime. Love that more and more people are giving this movie the attention it deserved! I've always loved this movie and never understood why people hated it. Used to watch it all the time on DVD when I was growing up. This is the ultimate call back to the classic universal monster flicks of the 20's-40's minus The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Mummy. The opening scene is even in black & white before switching to color. Van Helsing is such a fun movie with some really good action scenes and cheesy moments. I also like the practical and CGI effects, even though sometimes they don't look the best. One of my favorite highlights was the musical score by Alan Silvestri. It reminded me alot of The Mummy Returns. Its one of his most underrated soundtracks! The only real part I don't like much is the treatment of Kate's character. She keeps getting smacked in the face so many times to the point its a goof despite the fact that her character CAN kick some ass. I mean... she's not Selene but still!
Imagine that the studio scrapped the possible sequells to Van Helsing just because some idiotic reviews from critics, despite an amazing box office success.. I can't even express how sad it leaves me to think of all the possible stories Jackman's Van Helsing could have given us to this day..
I didnt even know this was on the list I looooooooove this movie literally the best werewolf transformation in history watching the skin shed for the firs time was super cool to me another gem. I always go back and find myself randomly watching this, and I mean look at Hugh and Kate they are amazing. I think the CGI was amazing for the time honestly mixed with some practical, I loved that Dracula walked up the wall just so casual while talking, Frankenstein’s monster honestly being a sweet heart, and the BRIDESSSSS 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 love this love happy you guys enjoyed it.
Have to remember that sometimes the overacting is a deliberate choice. This movie was meant to be a campy blend of anachronistic authenticity, which was popular at the time. And in all these movies, saying "the cgi was good for the time" is a little weird, since it was better cgi than some of what we're seeing in movies _today._ (ie The Flash, or Thor Love and Thunder) And then there's also the current trend of making scenes increasingly dark to mask poor and lazy cgi. (ie Morbius, or WW84)
This movie is such an underrated classic. Ratings for it aren't great, but it's very much like A Knight's Tale- One of my guilty pleasures. So much fun to watch. Bit of a lore drop here: Gabriel is supposed to be an archangel... Or maybe just angel (I forgot), who became mortal to join the Holy Order and fight Evil. He became close friends with Vladislaus Dragulia, who was also a brother of the Order. They go to the underworld and manage to kick loads of unholy ass, and form a huge bond there. Vlad ends up forsaking his order by choosing love, breaking celibacy, and the order didn't like it, so they arranged for them to be separated, but it lead to an accident, killed Vlad's woman, and he gets mad. He makes a pact with the devil and raises her from the dead, which is where the Order tasks Gabriel with killing Vlad. Take this all with a grain of salt since I've not seen this in a long while. It's a freaking rollercoaster of a story, and I'm glad you dudes enjoyed it as much as you did!
Such a fun good movie It sucks that it never got a sequel, this could've been such an awesome universe to explore again The Netflix series is not really the same sadly
Love this movie! Tots classic. Since you guys asked about how comfortable and combat efficient latex/leather was in the last one I’ll gladly answer the next goth question regarding absinthe. As far as flammability goes, it is incredibly flammable. I use it for witchcraft myself and use it during offerings or herbal burnings and rituals. It’s extremely high content alcohol, mine I use is Lucid, at a whopping 62%. Not to mention that’s Americanized and wildly toned down. The original that you can get in Europe can range depending but it easily can compete with moonshine and has interesting effects. It has a black licorice flavor and is often green in color, but the original ones have hallucinational effects due to being brewed in copper if it’s the old school way but also it’s use of wormwood, a potent herb that also happens to have its uses in witchcraft. Absinthe has gained a reputation among horror movies and literature as something only a monster can handle as it only takes a cup or two to knock you down if you’re not careful. Most famous brand of it is known as the green fairy absinthe as drinkers famously report seeing a green fairy flying around them. This drink is a synonymous with goth and horror alike and is a gothic must try as far as alcoholic beverages go.
If you like these classic, gothic monsters, the "Penny Dreadful" series is an absolute must-see. It has an outstanding cast, and is genuinely creepy. I think you all would really enjoy that show.

Hes Australian 🇦🇺
Sean Bean would have done this role better
I had an irrational, intense FEAR of werewolves growing up and the werewolf design in this movie scared the hell out of me as a kid
I always thought this werewolf design was cool as a kid
@@CertifiedSunset Still the best design for werewolves in general imo
i had fear of vampires when i was a kid, but i still watched this movie again and again. Love this movie
Lol
Well, that's weird, because as much as I love the design of these werewolves, these were the only werewolves that didn't scare me as a child (I also had that same irrational fear)
Love this Van Helsing version the most. Love how they did the transformation for every character that weren't human. Super well done.
There's an animated movie which serves as a prequel to this one and explains the conflict between Van Helsing and Mr. Hyde. Plus Hugh Jackman still voices Van Helsing so pretty awesome. The movie is called Van Helsing: The London Assignment.
The monk is David Wehnam. He plays both Faramir and the narrator from 300. Crazy range.
There is such a tradition - to review Van Helsing every year from the very moment you first saw it as a child and fell in love with literally each of the characters!!! 🫶
This was such a comfort movie for me growing up. I love the over the top acting from Dracula and his brides! So Campy!
I remember watching this movie at least once a year with my siblings and cousins when we were little. We loved it, and still do!!
This movie may not be my favorite, but it's the one I've rewatched the most times in my life
Don't really know why, just made my 9-10 year old self obsessed.
This was my favourite movie as a kid for so long 😂 looking forward to this one!
I would never forget my dad showing me this movie for the first time….. Been hooked on ever since ❤
Funny that you ask for a series, because in the book what the movie is based off, the medicine did not remove the curse or gift of lycanthropy.
Glad the movie holds up well to this day, in my personal opinion.
I've always loved this movie. It also had my favorite werewolf design, and I'm glad to see other people feel the same.
YES!! It wasn't a very popular movie, but my brother and I loved it when we were kids and we still like it! Love that you watched it.
It was one of the 3 films that I watched on repeat in my childhood my 8 year old self was obsessed with both hugh and kate they are amazing.
I love this movie and saw it at the walk-in. It is hard to believe it has been almost 20 years since its release.
Love Van Helsing. There is an animated Van Helsing that acts like a prequel to this movie. Hugh Jackman is voicing the character.
After watching your Twilight, I was just like, “Yup, they need to look at some real werewolves.” Amazing reaction and movies.
van healing is one of my favorite ‘campy’ movies - love that you guys had fun watching it!
penny dreadful is a three season, 27 episode show that does the same thing as van helsing in combining different gothic stories/beasts: dracula, dorian gray, frankenstein, frankensteins monster, witches, and dr jekyll/mr hyde. it’s dark, but absolutely incredible!
Never expected you guys to react to this movie!
I actually went by myself to see this in theaters at 13; very darn enjoyable!
Incredible cast! not just the headliners, but Carl was amazing (From 300 and LOTR.). But how about Robbie Coltrane as Hyde? Loved it!
This is such a great movie! It blows my mind how versatile Hugh Jackman is! I love the story and the characters ❤ great reaction guys!!!!🎉
I’m pleasantly surprised this movie holds up the way it does all these years later. Masterpiece in the modern gothic genre (imo)
Love this movie and still have the dvd. Van Helsing was originally gonna be trilogy but it didn't do well in theaters.
YES! Love that you reacted to this movie
So happy you guys picked this up, it's a fun romp. 👍🏾
I don’t know if you guys missed it or if it was just cut out. But Carl‘s actor, David Wenham, was Faramir in The Lord of the Rings!
A bit of a bonus I know you'll like.
Hyde was portrayed by the late Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) and Jekyll by Dwight Schultz (Murdock from The A Team)
Carl (Van Helsing's monk buddy) is David Wenham, aka Faramir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I will never understand why this didn't get any sequels.
I love the dialogue of Van Helsing and Carl about The Monster.
"I'm staring at him! Is that a man?"
"Several men! Parts of them, anyway." XD
Edit: Also, Hugh Jackman Werewolf is hecking hawt.
This movie means so much to me as an mythology fan and I'm glad you guys are checking it out
One of the most subtle and understated films ever made. A study in restraint.
Best werewolf design ever, especially the grey one at the start is INCREDIBLE
This is one of my favorite movies! Can't wait to see your reactions!
Grew up watching this and love all of it and love the werewolves in this in my opinion this is what a werewolf should look like
Imagine that the studio scrapped the possible sequells to Van Helsing just because some idiotic reviews from critics, despite an amazing box office success..
And in all these movies, saying "the cgi was good for the time" is a little weird, since it was better cgi than some of what we're seeing in movies _today._ (ie The Flash, or Thor Love and Thunder)
And then there's also the current trend of making scenes increasingly dark to mask poor and lazy cgi.
Such a fun good movie
It sucks that it never got a sequel, this could've been such an awesome universe to explore again
The Netflix series is not really the same sadly
Not sure a sequel would have been able to top this movie though.
Frankenstein hit them with the Nico Robin “I WANT TO LIVE!!”
Omg i did not realize how much in common this movie has with castlevania 😱
So you mean they basically ripped it off.
If you like these classic, gothic monsters, the "Penny Dreadful" series is an absolute must-see. It has an outstanding cast, and is genuinely creepy. I think you all would really enjoy that show.
