Something the movie left out that was in the comic it's based on. When V was a prisoner in Larkhill he was a model prisoner. So much so that he was allowed to work in the camp's garden. While there he cultivated the Scarlet Carson rose he puts on his victims and brought it back from the brink of extinction (hence why the doctor knew it was him by the rose). While he was working in the garden he snuck away fertilizer and created the bombs that tore through the camp that allowed him to escape. I think it's a nice little bit of info that helps people understand a few small bits.

V and Evey relation is very different aswell, considering she's a minor in the comic, it's more of a father/daughter relation. I mean, practically everything is different, but both are amazing pieces

The virus development at Larkhill was twofold. The virue had to be devastating, terrifying and lethal but STABLE not mutations or variant strains. They also needed a cure that was 100% effective. V's abilities were unique side effects. He was the stable version. The weapon AND the cure.
A wonderful detail to mention that I don't hear people pick up on is the chalk that V gives to Creedy. If Creedy accepts, he signals this by marking his door with a white X. This is how the doors were marked in Larkhill when the occupant was dead. V got Creedy to mark himself as a dead man. Such a beautiful little touch that shows the complexity and symmetry of V's plot.

The chancellor wanted terror so he wouldn't have released the virus unless the cure was already there. However, it had to be "discovered" legitimately when the time was right which is why trusted operatives were in charge of the operation at Larkhill.

V had to die, it was pointed out in the "domino" sequence. He was the one domino that prevented the entire pattern to fall in place. If he survived there was a threat that he would become the new Chancellor or somebody would use him to become one. He removed all people of power so a new system can be built from scratch.

Two things i want to say about V for Vendetta.
    1. In my opinion this is the best movie the Wachowskis ever made. Yes, i think it it superior to The Matrix. For while The Matrix was groundbreaking in the SciFi genre, V for Vendetta is a often overlooked but almost timeless classic that is even more relevant today then it was back then. Think about it, this movie was released in 2005 - it is 20 years old next year - and it is still very relevant.
    2. This is Natalie Portmans best performance in any movie i know she took part in. I know that she eventually won an Oscar for Black Swan but she should have at least have gotten a nomination for her role in V for Vendatta.

Lark Hill was the facility that was used to develop both the virus and the cure for the virus. As others here have noted, Lark Hill was for "undesirables".
When I was living in Germany, not far from my home was an Nazi work camp from WWII called Buchenwald, which is now a museum. During the war it was one of the camps that was purposed not to hold Jews, but for the government's version of undesirables - homosexuals, Gypsies, political criminals, mentally and physically handicapped, foreigners, etc. These prisoners would have been the same people were held at the fictional Lark Hill. I went to the Buchenwald museum once, and I was so deeply affected that I was never able to go back.
As opposed to the Nazi death camps of Poland such as Auschwitz, people weren't sent to Buchenwald just to be systematically executed, but they were starved, tortured and worked to death. They did have ovens, but they were used for the dead bodies of those who died, and those killed when the population of the camp became too high. People caught trying to escape were often killed by having the guard dogs sicced upon them in front of other prisoners. Many were experimented upon for what they justified as "scientific" reasons, and they had cells for some experimental victims much like those depicted in "V for Vendetta". It was a horrific place and is the closest thing I can think of to what Lark Hill was in this film.

    • @grabtharshammer
      @grabtharshammer 2 місяці тому +14

Larkhill is not fictional, it has been an "army" Garrison since 1915. Supposedly it is the Garrison for the Royal Artillery, however there have always been rumours about what else went on there. I worked around that area in the early 1970's for the MoD and I can confirm that there were definitely some VERY HIGH security facilities there. Officially it was not the real base for Britain's viral/biological weaponry research, that was Porton Down (or that is what we told the Russians) Porton Down of course is about 10 miles south of Larkhill

1:08 For context, Vertigo Comics was an imprint of DC Comics created in 1993 to focus on more mature, adult-oriented comic books. Some of these comics were connected to the greater DC Universe (the "World of Heroes"), such as Hellblazer, Lucifer, Sandman, and Hitman, while others, like Fables, Y: The Last Man, Preacher, and The Invisibles, were set in their own standalone universes. The comics that did take place in the mainline DC Universe, such as Sandman ranged in how much they referenced the larger universe, often existing in their own isolated bubbles. This gave writers the freedom to pick how connected they wanted these stories to be to the greater universe.
V for Vendetta is one of those comics that exists in its own universe, separate from the world of Batman, Superman, Flash, and Wonder Woman. It has no connection to the DC Universe beyond being published by DC. While one could argue that it technically exists within the DC Multiverse, a crossover between the two worlds is highly unlikely.
V For Vendetta was originally published in black and white as a serial in the British anthology Warrior between 1982 and 1985. When Warrior was canceled, the story was left unfinished, but several publishers tried to get Moore and Lloyd to let them complete it. In 1988, DC Comics stepped in, reprinting the Warrior stories in color as a ten-issue series and finishing the story. Future releases of V For Vendetta would be published under Vertigo Comics imprint.

    • @finncullen
      @finncullen 2 місяці тому +8

And the run in Warrior was left unfinished with the final panel being Evey leaving her cell and realising she was in the Shadow Gallery, with V saying "Welcome Home"
Hell of a cliffhanger to take us contemporary readers over the next several years till the run was completed!

V (Hugo Weaving), if you have seen The Matrix, played the role of... Agent Smith. (The one who becomes the entire world in the 3rd movie.) He also played the role of Elron, in The Lord of the Rings.
The one thing I “remember” was just hearing and listening to his voice and I was “Darn Gosh, I know that voice.” And when it finally came to me... the first sentence was “Mister Anderson.”
Also, Wolverine is Marvel, not DC. It's okay, there are a lot of Super Heros out there. If you are not into it as much as others, it is quite understandable to mix them up.

Content creator.... ive purchased this outstanding movie 🎬 plus the soundtrack.. this movie was made during the bush admin (cerca 2005-6), the reason being guantanamo bay, bags over prisoners, bush spying servalance.. trump is going the same thing... religious right, hatred of gays, etc etc.. this is what this movie depicts..
Ive watched this movie 'bout 15times it brings 😢 tears to my eyes how ppl can be so ugly.. watching 👀 you view this for the 1st time is extraordinarily compelling and funny as hell 😂 i love it.. seeing your reactions makes me vicariously feel like im did watching it for the 1st time.. your shock at the bishop was priceless 😅😂...
The guy playing V was also the antagonist (man, after Neo) in the matrix trilogy... again this movie is about how any country trys to impose totalitarian rule over the masses using lies.. (trump, putin)..
Please make more 🙏 vids i adore authentication.... subscribed 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Edit.. they were trying to develop a way to kill without destroying the infrastructure... they used the cure to make money... V kept Evey in order to keep his secret (after nov. V) while V tortured Evey, V admitted: " i wanted to end in it, but you never gave in" in other words if Evey had broke V would've had to Kill her... he didn't want to fall in love due to his disfiguration, knowing this all he wanted revenge in addition to the actress...
if you recall 9/11 ppl were suspicious of bush (possibly) allowing it to happen.. this was the atmosphere inwhich this movie 🎬 was produced... the soundtrack was just as compelling ❤
V for vendetta is one of my top 10 movie all time...

"So, Valerie is Real?... She was probably in prison with him."
At 22:20 is the shot of her getting her head shaved with clear skin and then standing in the injection line with sores on her face.
"They" didn't only take Evie's brother from her. Her parents were sent to Lark Hill where they certainly died. She was sent to an orphanage/detention center. They took her whole life away.
Despite the fact that this movie was released 22 years ago and that the comic is even older the story is a lot more pertinent to today's world.
Our last election was on the 5th of November.

I take it, since you don't know who Hugo Weaving is, you haven't seen "The Matrix" or the Lord of the Rings trilogy yet. The thing I loved about this Film/Graphic Novel, was how it showed the methods used by people to shape and control a narrative to gain power over others. Fear is a primary motivator, and when you make people afraid they are very willing to hand over their own freedoms to cure that Fear. Vilifying an external enemy is another narrative used by these people; this movie used enemies that are commonly used such Immigrants, Homosexuals, persons of a number of religious groups, etc. You can literally watch this film and draw valid comparisons to actual events that have happened in the past and even in the present.

John Hurt (Chancellor Adam Sutler) also played 'Kane' in the first 'Alien' movie and the wand-maker 'Ollivander' in the 'Harry Potter' movies... Comedian Stephen Fry played 'Gordon Dietrich', Evey's boss who gave her shelter (and likely aided 'V' in his plot)

I feel that he created a character that... was totally separate from any other role. Like I can't even picture the actor as V. The masked V has become indelible as a character... I don't actually want to know if he played the role physically inside the suit or if he was just the voice. Let's leave he character, nay the "idea" of V as forever masked...

This movie does a less-than-stellar job of reflecting: the abject horror, amorality (as opposed to simple "immorality!") and personal agony reflected in Alan Moore's original series (or later graphic novel collected version).
The tactics and characters' practices and beliefs in the story are DIRECTLY derived from: soviet practices, developed within and specifically for: their gulag system (which most people are barely aware of or understand anything about.-certainly not firsthand and rarely, even: "third or fourth"-hand,). This system was used (and continues to be, currently, still) to torture and psychologically & emotionally disfigure, alter and torture: regular, average citizens and any person or family of: a nation or area occupied, but by having been made to suffer invasion, occupation, violation (already!), demarcated as: "less than human and worthy, solely, of utter contempt." (not what would in the rest-of-the-world called: "enemies" or "rivals"...this is because: ALL people could be demarcated/labelled: "enemies of the state" or "political rivals" or simply, "unfit" and subject to the agonies and violations of any-even the VAGUEST, LEAST- measure of reasonable consideration or treatment, which were set-up to be practiced by those who were found to already and then trained to further: enjoy and, in fact, revel, in: creating agony and terror.
Those, in fact: correctly and unavoidably deemed and understood to be: utterly inhuman and intolerable to be permitted to exist, ever, anywhere, whatsoever.)
The most vile system ever created.
It is true that writer: Alan Moore, when he wrote this story, was NOT referring to soviet society at all (while using the tenets and facts of its practices and assertions as "descriptive tools"🤬🤬), but rather: this series was his commentary on: how he felt England was threatened to become and/or being turned into and, to degrees, already was (in his eyes, and the eyes of many there ,as well): "a totalitarian state." ...An equivalent reflection of the system, described and illustrated here; under the "Thatcher gov't." of the 1980s and 1990s.
This was his intent and what he meant to warn against and describe.
...but (as delineated above!), he employed: already existing, practiced methods and designed organizations and practices to bring "weight" and accurate emotion..., to his story, characters and his complaints.
--The screenwriters & filmmaker, here, actually "whitewashed" (to some degree), as well as: exacerbated/exaggerated the violence and terror (turning much of the violence into: direct, revenge-oriented "fantasy glory" and playing on the simplest, weakest, easiest-to-play-on: "instincts"(🙄) and manipulable emotions of the majority of the, uneducated, uncaring-to-be, expected viewing public.
That said: the movie is still effective ....but: it isn't what it should be, at all.
The VAST majority of "people" (and I use that epithet loosely, here) who watch this and believe they understand ANYTHING about it or its intent (or claim that "it speaks to them"🙄🙄 or "is prophetic" 🙄🙄🤦🤦🤬‼🤬) ... are fu**ing, numbn*ts dumbn**s, shi**tains;completely unaware of what is being spoken to or of and who have pre-teen, bathroom-break "revolution" pseudo-emotions and minuscule-minded, utterly unprepared, primarily or totally uneducated and unaware mental insistences (like many 12 or 13 year-olds think that they can, "should," or do🤬🙄🙄).
They do not understand that: this story is about: yes: "human frailty" and refusal to acknowledge self-error and a lack of deservance of power (particularly: absolute power!) and ignorance (and the willing to indefensibly: expand and protect those!), but, also: on past events and occurrences and times.
They make idiotic assumptions such as: that this 'calls out' for "revolution." ...That (somehow) "all revolution is good" 🙄(or somesuch thing) and that any violence they imagine or allow is "defensible" 🙄🙄and "deserved" 🙄(because THEY feel that it "must be"/"should be"🤬) and "is excused because"🙄🙄🙄: these imagined "revolutions"
    a) "always work"🙄 🤦
    b) are "inevitable" 🤦🤦🤬🤬
    c) "always need to happen" 🙄🤬
d( ..."if I FEEL 'deserving,' ...'warranted' ...that (automatically 🙄) 'makes me right!' "....🙄🤬
...all of which: are utter sh*t and are not supported or extolled by Moore's writing, whatsoever. 🤬
[This film, also, created the market for and increased (exponentially) the popularity of and knowledge about: Guy Fawkes (outside of England, directly) and the Guy Fawkes mask, directly. - That should, nearly, go without saying, I think, but.... 🤷]

This movie deals with what can be justified, and when and how it can be justified. V is definitely crossing a lot of moral and legal lines, that we usually hold firmly to. He's a terrorist, revolutionary, murderer, abductor, and torturer. He's fighting an extremely oppressive government, and trying to engage a population that's either terrified or apathetic, his enemies are clearly evil, he's clearly justified in feeling extreme anger, and, in the end, both Evie and society benefits from his extreme actions. So, is he justified? If he went too far (clearly he did, imo), then by how much? What would've been justified?
It's also a kinky love story (masks, abduction, torture, and death qualifies as _very_ kinky, imo), but I'll leave that alone.
