I wanted a sequel since I watched this movie first time.
Imagine that I have been waiting for a sequel forever. I loved that Movie End of Days with Arnold Schwarzenegger as well.
This movie is low key one of my favorite. I don’t care what the comic book nerd think. This movie was dope. Give me a sequel
The actors name in the beginning is Kevin Chamberlin. He was also the bomb guy in die hard with a vengeance.

I remember how many people complained that he wasn't blond as the comic character, but once they saw the movie, they all agreed he was excellent.

I just love it, when people feel the need to prefix their opinion with an admission of ignoring any dissenting arguments, because they're fully aware that the position they're holding, is an extremely flimsy one ^^

“I wanna a sequel. Give me a sequel!” Yeah, that’s what we’ve been yelling for 17 years lol. This movie is criminally underrated.
And it's happening! Finally!
Cool little detail you might have missed is that at the beginning when that guy finds the Spear of Destiny and then turns and looks over his shoulder at seemingly nothing, it was because he sensed Constatine was behind him. Later on in the movie when Constatine uses that electric chair to track down where the Spear is, it shows him standing behind the guy when he finds the Spear. So it's like a little time travel thing.
Same with Isabel part. In the security camera footage (reviewing by Angela), before Isabel jumped off the building, she turned around and said Constantine's name without his presence. Then later when Constantine went to hell and found Isabel, she turned around and saw him and said his name just like in the security camera footage.

Peter Stormare, Al Pacino and Viggo Mortensen (The Prophecy) all had great takes on the character. And speaking of The Prophecy, Christopher Walken also played Gabriel really well.

I still think this movie is visually stunning for the time that it was made every shot and all the CGI and practical effects look so amazing in this movie.

Keanu was asked in an interview, if he could make a sequel to any film, what would he choose. He said Constantine because he liked playing the character so much. This is one of my favorite films. It's so well done.
While I adore Matt Ryan as the quintessential DC Constantine, Keanu Reeves will always have my heart as a stand alone dark universe Constantine.
Also, Stormare's portrayal of Lucifer is still undefeated in my book. Loved Gwen Christie's in "The Sandman" and Pacino's in "Devil's Advocate", but this one is so original

This is one of those movies that was made way ahead of its time. It is such a good movie, but got bad feedback because Keanu's Constantine was different from the comics... which I agree, but I still think Keanu was great as Constantine, Angel Grabiel was also perfect and the artistry of Lucifer was just so awesome. Frankly, I like this Constantine(Con-staan-teen) than the Constantine(Con-staan-tayn) of The Sandman.

@@Mikimarux Constantine’s name is pronounced incorrectly in all of the adaptations except for The Sandman show. Literally since Alan Moore created him, it has repeatedly been said to rhyme with wine, not teen. The teen pronunciation is completely wrong.
We need a sequel to this one. Also I don’t remember any film in which the main character straight up shows the middle finger to the devil 😂

I would really like to see a sequel to the movie, with Keanu Reeves coming back as the titular character and Guillermo Del Toro directing.
This was back in 2018-2019, but with their busy schedules, looks like we might have to wait a little while longer.
If they remade this today... Constantine would be female... and a minority... and either trans or gay... and probably disabled in some way.
Both Keanu and the director said they want to make the sequel. It's really upto Warner Bros. to decide if they think they should make it.

Peter Stormare is one of my favorite movie incarnations of the devil in this movie, so great and creepy and unique. Wish more people would check out this movie, love the feel of it.
My favorite thing about this movie is that all of the effects are strictly in service of the films aesthetic. That’s the reason why I believe they still look so good today.
I love this version of Constantine. The Hell landscape is imagined as the point when a nuclear bomb detonates. This film has lots of really great visuals. Keanu is open to a sequel only if Francis Lawrence returns as director.

This is definitely controversial of me to say, but this is my favourite version of Constantine. Keanu nails everything about the character, except for the heritage. Yes, he isn't blonde or British in this version, but other than that, it is John Constantine.
It isn't because this is my fave too!
Also ,Keanu balances the sympathetic anti-hero and cynical asshole elements of The Character just right IMHO whereas in some of the Graphic Novels they lean too strongly on one side or the other ta the point The Character comes off as borderline villainous at times.(Which,aside from Demon John,he really shouldn`t!)
He acts NOTHING like the comic version. The comic version is way more broody, and a lot less quippy.

Not really. Constantine is a magician (in the Occult Magick using sense) which is how Alan Moore introduced him during the time he was writing Swamp Thing and that has not changed since EXCEPT in this movie.
He is NOT primarily an Exorcist although he CAN banish demons,
Moore would know this since he based that side of the character on himself. The same as he did all the Qabalistic knowledge he throws into his Promethea title.
I love this movie and this version of Constantine. The visuals are stunning. Remember this was years and years before Stranger Things upside down or any of the other visuals we're so used to from all thr supernaturally based shows.

It's actually weird watching a comic book movie where the protagonist isn't quipping every other line. Also, it's interesting looking at the old reviews on RT. Critics are just so much more comic book literate now than they were in 2005, because so many reviews complain that the plot is "too confusing". And it just feels on par now with a lot of movies in the genre.

Keanu Reeves perfectly cast, Peter Stormare giving a performance of a lifetime, a young Shia LaBoeuf, Rachel Weisz, Djimon Honsou, Tilda Swinton, so much greatness in one unforgivably underrated film.

To me all Movies based on Comics should be considered Elseworlds anyway. Hell why do you think DC has INFINITE EARTHS! It's to take everything in. The only thing Earth 1 is the comics.
This was a great movie on its own and would've been great as a stand-alone series. Shame it didn't get a sequel, but I like it as it is as well. I know some people don't like it because of it not reflecting the comics character as much, but I say it was a very good version of it.

Honestly, this is one of the most underrated films of the 2000s. It's got gorgeous cinematography, some really great acting, awesome effects, and a killer score from Klaus Badelt & Brian Tyler! I'm so so so flipping happy we're getting a sequel after nearly two friggin' decades!

I LOVE the fact they had 'Passive' by A Perfect Circle in this film, inside the half-way club full of Angels mingling with Demons. Very fitting.

I do love this movie. I do have to separate my love of comic Constantine and the perfection that Matt Ryan brings, but I still think aside from the physical inaccuracies, it's not that far off. Constantine is a lonely, massive dick. Plus, Peter Stormare as Lucifer is PERFECT. Like, top notch.

The part that always cracks me up is when Costantine activates the sprinklers, and the demon lady stops for a second to say "Holy water?" with all that poise, and immediately stars suffering. A moment just to go "The old sprinkler with holy water trick, eh?"

This is one of the very few movies that i can watch over and over again and still be mesmerized by the story, the visuals and the acting. Underrated.
I love so much about this movie that you discuss in your post film chat. Noir slow burn, really solid VFX, a lot of great tension, dark tone, struggle between his apathy, desire for some form of redemption, and his anger at God, the surrounding characters were all excellent actors and felt like fully developed characters even with limited screen time, the cinematography is fucking awesome...it's all SO GOOD. I wish we had a sequel to it. Even with the MCU, which I truly love, Constantine is one of my all time favorite comic movies brought to life and I've never even read them.
The MCU shits all over this and every other DC movie.

I love this movie so much. I received it as present when I was 13 (I am since kid into freaky movies) and it did not had subtitles in Romanian, so I stayed all night and tried to trasnalte every word I did not understand in English (I was obviously still learning English).
In conclusion: This movie is verry close to my heart.
Also: it introduced me to Keanu Reaves 😁
This movie is pretty good and lots of good actors up in it as well and its definitely one of Keanu's most underrated/underappreciated movies but maybe that's because he's done so many good movies
My favorite version of John Constantine is the one played by Matt Ryan in the short-lived series titled Constantine. Matt plays that character to pure perfection and it's like the comic has come to life whenever he speaks

I saw this movie in the theatre when it came out I loved it then & now. I agree it was by far underatted. In this time of graphic novel adaptations, this was ahead of its time.
Well, now that I just watched this movie again by watching your reaction, it's even better than I remember. What a perfect representation of the world of Constantine. And Keanu absolutely nails the character, despite him not being British.

It's a great stand-alone movie. While it has little to do with the comics Constantine, Keanu owns this role. I love it!

No they haven't. Seems like most reactors don't even realize it came out. Netlfix barely even promoted it. It's a shame, as it's a masterpiece.
This movie is absolutely and undeniably one of the most underrated comic book-based movies ever made, Keanu Reeves, well as he's always been nothing but perfect in many of his career roles, he really killed it as a perfect portrayal of John Constantine on the big screen, the cinematography, the sound design, the equally-balanced use of both CGI and the visual effects... there are tons of great things about this movie.
These “First-Time” watchmaking’s have been such wonderful surprises! Love them ☺️

It's beyond me how so many people have never seen this movie. This is one of those that I always return for a rewatch.
This is definitely in my guilty pleasure of movie collection it’s in my ghost rider my my Blade Trinity box. my my priest my Jonah hex collection. I do love this movie it was pretty much my introduction to Constantin even though it’s not the traditional Constantine I think that Reeves did amazing job. I feel like Djimon Hounsou is always just a guy that knows somebody he’s never the main guy I will definitely pick him to be brother voodoo in the MCU. I do like what they did with Rachel Weisz. I like tilda in her role.

Fun fact. Although 666 is considered today to be the mark the beast, this is actually a mistranslation, the true mark is 616 according to revelation 13:18 and even Going all the way back to fragments of Papyrus 115.
So in the scene were father Hennessy looks at Isabelle’s toe tag and you see 616, this is a subtle clever piece of foreshadowing to let you know that the devil already has her soul.
Also, in case you’re curious, the designation of universe 616 was named as such by comic book writer and real life wizard Allen Moore (in an issue of Captain Britain,) who also wrote Constantine (Back when it was known as Hellblazer) And if your wondering why he chose the mark of the devil as the main marvel universe, it because he thought that it would be cool if the main comic universe was just some really big number, and he chose 616 as a subtle jab and critique of marvel Comics.
Greg I’m half-Filipino and I said the EXACT same thing you did in that scene with the Filipino family, the first time I watched this.
I was 16 yo when this movie came out. I absolutely LOVED it and must have watched it half a dozen times since. Also, I love the post-credit scene. Was Chas Kramer an angel all along? Did he become one as a reward? Who knows? It's great! 😂

I loved the 'uniqueness' of it when it came out and couldn't wait to own a copy. Yeah, the 'film' quality is wonderful, as opposed to the faster paced stuff we would end up getting later on. Swinton is brilliant casting. It was so cool to not only see Morpheus show up in John Wick... but also having Stormaire (Lucifer) as well. It makes me want to see Wick's head table consisting of all the women he has ever acted with... Weisz, Swinton, Bullock, Carrie-Anne Moss, Winona Ryder, etc. Maybe even have his in-movie dead wife at the head, being not so dead. Maybe she pretended to be dead just to get Wick back in the game.
Loved your reaction to this and love this movie. The artwork in this movie really motivated me to go all in as a digital artist.
Fun Fact: Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz starred together in another movie, "Chain Reaction", also starring Morgan Freeman. It's worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
Something that took me years to realize was that Balthazar wasn't doing Satan's bidding. He was blown away and killed by Gabriel who was working with the enemy from the very beginning
Half-breed angels/demons weren't really enemies though. They even hung out and got drunk together at Pappa Midnight's club. Everything is peaceful unless someone tries to break the truce (Balthazar and Gabriel). What annoys me about that scene though it Gavin Rossdale sounded like Austin Powers. "Fire?! I was made of this! Yeah, baby, behave!". It's such a minor thing but it irks me to this day.

@@fifthtouch the unseen figure who destroyed him (with wind basically) wasn't Lucifer like I thought for so long, but Gabriel. Lucifer wouldn't have wanted the sister to be drawn out like Balthazar mentioned, bringing Lucifer's son to Earth was what Gabriel was after all along
@@fifthtouch The conspiracy involved Gabriel and Mammon (Lucifer's son) with Balthazar simply being the liaison between the two. This was about Mammon trying to usurp power from his father and Gabriel forcing mankind to prove that they deserve salvation.

This is the best adaptation of Lucifer we have ever seen. Such an underrated film.
It’s one of the only adaptations that I think wouldn’t have been better if it was more comic accurate. I love this movie. The devils dirty feet. So symbolic.
The tar dripping as he descends is the perfect symbolism for a fallen angel. The whole scene is one of my favorites
This was definitely one of my favorite movies growing up, Constantine along with Blade were great supernatural comic book films

I was taught that angels were described as beautiful men with golden hair. When years ago I saw this movie I remember seeing Tilda and thinking wow I bet that is exactly what angels look like. I wasn't sure who the actor was or their gender was at the time but I was mesmerized and still am.
This movie has so many great shots. When he first gets out of the taxi and the dropping of the cigarette is filmed from the bottom and and him getting out of the taxi filmed from above.
And Stomare is amazing as Lu

Djimon Hounsou is a powerful actor. I’ve been saying for years that he needs to be The Martian Manhunter. No disrespect to the current one in the Synder Cut, but man did they miss out. He is perfect for J’onn J’onzz. I guess it’s okay he is the wizard in Shazam. If you see him in Blood Diamond and Never Back Down, you’ll see what I mean. Very underrated actor
