  • You can make pretty much any of the recent Sony's look great with a click or two of your mouse thanks to an amazing corrective LUT called the LemmingLUT. I personally use the Sony HLG3 to 709 LUT. Please note this is just the corrective LUT applied, and you can do some color grading to taste after this baseline footage. I wanted to show the LUT as is when applied directly.

    Hey Mark, I’m loving your videos and learning so much. I recently bought a ZV-E10 and I’m loving the camera. I’m getting more and more comfortable with how this thing works and recently purchased the Leeming Lut pack. I’m curious to know if I’m outside should I keep my ISO on auto and then adjust the EV meter? This is still a point of confusion for me. Thanks for any help you can offer!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

      Best thing to do is put it in manual, iso 125, and shutter at 1/50. Then adjust the aperture until the M.M on your screen reads +1.7. That'll give you what you need.
      Alternatively - you could do shutter priority at 1/50 with auto ISO and use your exposure compensation to set the M.M at +1.7.
      Of course, you could use the zebra way I do if you are exposing for skin - but you want to be in all manual for that and keep you ISO as low as you can

    Why don’t you use the colour space override feature in fcpx to turn it into ref 709? Sorry I’m trying to learn 😅

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 роки тому

      You can, but that just converts the colour space for you. so you’ll still have to colour grade it yourself. The LeemingLUT makes you expose to the right (brighter than the camera thinks you should) and then when you apply the LUT, the brightness is reduced and the colors are accurate. Your footage will pretty much look perfect with no color grading and you won’t have noisy footage because you exposed to the right and brought down the shadows (ETTR)

    Hey Mark! Keep up the great content! One question about the settings: on the PDF instructions for the Sony Leeming LUT, it says to set the zebras at 99+ for HLG3 with the ETTR method. Would it give much different results in your case? I'm asking because you chose to expose for skin tones instead (thus using a different percentage for the zebras). Thank you!

So I set the white balance in regular movie mode (I put that in hlg3 anyway) and set my custom white balance. It is then registered to the first custom white balance slot. Wait, your a canon R5 is stuck on 10bit?? You can already get prores if you record to a Ninja V ;) but it would be great to get that internally. Big file sizes though.

      @@robmcd prores won’t give you any noticeable quality difference. It’s easier to edit, but the footage will look pretty much identical to your regular SD card footage.

    Mark will most likely delete this, but this lut is not good. *Do not buy this LUT* It has disrupted my video workflow for 2.5 months. I couldn’t find out why all my footage was blown out. **IF YOU HAVE BLOWN OUT FOOTAGE ITS A SETTINGS + PREFERENCES ISSUE IN DA VINCI RESOLVE, FINAL CUT, PREMIERE PRO..*** Learn how to color grade ising the graphs and wave forms and your footage will be amazing. I can’t tell you how frustrated I’ve been after horrible color grades using this LUT. Save the money and time especially if you have quality footage.

      I don’t delete any comments unless they are inappropriate. the LeemingLUT is not my LUT, but it is a well respected LUT and has worked for thousands of filmmakers. It’s designed to capture maximum dynamic range by exposing to the right and then applying the LUT. So if you expose to the right using the provided zebra levels and corresponding picture profiles, the footage comes out great and very colour accurate. I still use this on every shoot to this day.
