I might be wrong about this, but it was my general understanding that if you used an 8 bit color camera (A7iii for example) it was better to use SLOG2 for various reasons, and if you had a 10 bit color camera (A7S3) SLOG3 was the way to go.
@@etherealnorth depends, I think they are both very different. HLG looks better straight out of cam and requires less grading. Slog is probably better when you have a lot of dynamic range (bright skies, shadows etc.). Slog also has a base ISO of 700 or so. So when you're outside during the day and don't have an ND filter, you gonna have problems. But I would say just make some comparisons for yourself and see what works best :)
@@jannisbmrt Thanks! I finally opted for the A7SIII and I find HLG2 to work real good at very low light with base ISO 12800! SLOG3 with ND Filter is best during the day of course :)
Great video mate, Slog 3 definitely looks better for the skintones! I shoot slog 3 a lot on the FS5 and always shoot 2 stops over for the best results in post.

@@TehHaffsTuts most people would fall asleep haha, not that exciting, but interesting for geeks like me :) I guess it depends what you’re shooting as well. The worst thing is to get comfortable with one thing. Some things might need HLG, some things might be good with the standard picture profile. Anyway great work Maye

A lo mejor me puedes resolver una cuestión que me ha paralizado el proyecto que tiene que esta relacionado con este tema: tengo clips grabados con a7ii en slog2 y con a7iv con slog3, y no consigo igualar el color al aplicar el LUT original de Sony a convertir a s709 en premiere. Se puede? Al tener otra tasa de bit no tendré nunca los mismo colores?
That’s true ! You can’t coloring the same way as they are different. I have had this experience. For next time if you use both cameras on set , better use slog 2 as Sony a7II is an 8bit cameras. To match them in editing is easy

You can also use SLOG2 on the A7S3, i prefer that personaly, easier to expose & to color grade, & less noise

You have to shoot in 10 bit to use slog 3. Otherwise you will get banding

@@pusico6555 lines on exposed parts, usually skies lights you’ll get lines or bands and it looks weird

Crazy, the skin tones look better in the 2, but the grey of the sweatshirt looks noticeably better in 3.
