Color Correction with Leeming Luts vs Color Checker in DaVinci Resolve

- With Sony coming out with their new A7siii. Along with their ability to shoot High dynamic range using hlg3 and slog 3 this has peaked many people's interest. But one of the downfalls of these profiles is knowing how to properly expose them and color grade them. Depending on how deep of a color grade you're going this can take avery along time to get the right color.
In this video I'm going to show you how to use a color checker to get a perfect color correction for what your eye sees before shooting. Along with using a drag-and-drop method with a correction light by the company called leeming Luts. These two methods I have found are the best way to color grade your image and acting as an input Lut. With the Leeming Luts you really have to know your exposure to get a proper color grade if not your image will turn out grainy and very dark.

Let's see more of the new camera!!!!
hello, great helpful video! when you ETTR, does it apply when you expose to skin tones as well? working with HLG3 using the leeming LUTs
I just read the Leeming LUT manual. Here it is: www.leeminglutpro.com/downloads/Leeming_LUT_Pro_II_Setup_Guide_Sony_A_Series.pdf Basically, you always want to ETTR if you can - ignoring how the image looks - but skin is definitely lower than the 90-100 IRE of the video passport. He's saying skin should should be 86 in the camera if you have the Std+Range +-2 option. I have the a6400 and I don't think it has that. I'll delete my other comment since this one has the actual current manual.
@@Hexspa thanks for looking into this! You are awesome!
@@julianneandralph5093 I'm glad it helped you. Being a nerd has its upsides :)
Thanks for the video! Quick question, are you changing the color space in the project settings for the input or timeline, or are you in default rec709?
If all the clips are the same I would in the project setting. Or you can use a a color space transform.
Hello, I have a Sony Rx 100 vii, do you think a leaming lut could work on my camera as well? (on their website they're only offering luts for sony alpha models...)
As their site says, it says Alpha models. There are some free LUTs from Sony and Alister Chapman. Try those, and if they work for you then maybe you can try the Leeming LUTs.
Is there any point in investing in a color checker if we buy the Leeming Luts? i.e. would it only be used for the white balance purpose, and not for color balancing/correcting right?
No. Just use a white card
@@PortlandEventFilms Thank you!
For the Leeming LUT you have to make sure the exposure is spot on. The color checker has more wiggle room for not being perfect.
For Premiere, I was using both. I haven't graded in Resolve yet. It's a handy card to have, though. It has a neutral white balance panel for setting that in camera which leeming luts won't help you with.
How about using color space transform?
Today that would be a much better option
@@PortlandEventFilms better than what?
Just came across. I think this workflow is not correct. Leeming LUT must be applied to the image with correct WB. This is just the basic requirement.
You shouldn't be asking me what's going on, you should be telling me what's going on.
