I'm so grateful to have found this video. I've visited the repair shop multiple times and even tried to buy new ram. Thought I had to spend $300 bucks for a new logic board and the difficulty of installing it. You saved me the money and the extra stress!
Thank you very much for your diagnoses and explanations. I bought some laptops on eBay and while setting them up, one had this problem that's why I am here now.
In the video you said that some solder joints cracked. So I just put some flux on all the joints and used a soldering iron to resolder them all. After that, I tested run the laptop and the problem was gone.
The next day, another one with the same 2012 model had the same problem. At first I thought it was the one that I fixed the day before. However, when I opened it up, it was a different one (because the logic board was clean at that area). This time, instead of resolder all of them, I used a thin stylus to poke all the joints and I found one that moved a lot (it cracked obviously). I resoldered it and the problem was gone again.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I have learnt a lot from your videos. Keep up your great work.
Solved my issue. Saved me 300€. Younre the man. And there is an explanation you gave. Younre the man
Excellent explanation, now I know why I had no problems but client did when they used it. It ran fine on the table top and using the touchpad; apparently I never put enough pressure on it to cause the issue. It may still have developed the issue anyway as I only ran it for a few hours running test utilities and removing malware.
Thank you! You saved me from getting another laptop.
Awesome man, thank you! i had the same issue with my Asrock Z68 Extreme7. Issue caused via half pulled stick of Ram from slot and i've booted few times pc and he went to safe shut down 4 times. And after i pulled ram back, booted to Win10 and i saw the same artifacts (but mine was horizontal). i hard reseted PSU, booted again and all good but quality of video signal became bad and ingame stutters appeared, i tried to fix it and after a month of researches my thoughs was that's Motherboard's Chipset or cpu, but after i found your video i figuered that is was bad slot or bus issue. I change motherboard and quality of signal returned to normal/crystal view. Thank you!
But one issue remained. in-game stutters remained. My pc with new motherboard passing all tests Memtest86 and 86+, Furmark, Superposition, Prime, Linpak, OCCT, Aida shows perfect numbers for my Caches and Ram Gb/s, Fire Strike tests show same numbers as on "healthy" systems and other exotics tests easely pc passes with stable temperatures. Psu's voltages are great and stable in all tests. All is smooth in tests frametime is smooth, but in games i have bad |-| frametime graph. CPU at 50%, GPU 50%, 60 fps, v-sync, 0% ssd load. i'm not doing anything in game and my character is idle (in Re4re for example) but frametime is bad but nothing happens on screen at stable 60fps. I have Asus Z77 Maximum V extreme.
So my thoughs: Mb its Ram, or CPU. Could you advise please, can something from old motherboard damaged new motherboard? Is it possible, i mean could CPU or Ram damage new motherboard if they are faulty. or maybe some issue with Ram Buffer's chip (Corsair Vengeance cl9)? I had zero bsods, no flickering scree and motherboard has strong mosfets.
Im working on that "stutters/distortion problem" kinda 2 months already and i'm exhausted..)
solved my issue, thanks for the awesome upload
Worked for me when I was repairing a 2011 MBP I'm gonna flipped. I didn't check if I secured the RAM correctly when installing, so a re-seating did the trick!
Thank you so much
excellent
you are amazing
thank you so much
awesome..
Could you use a single 8GB ram module on that bay?
Hey I had this issue too. I started using the outer ram slot. However, recently my laptop started having the same issue. i have tried changing slots. Now the laptop doesnt turn on the screen at all, there are three beeps that i can hear and the fans are running. Please help
This is not the only way to fix this. Reflowing is useless, the pins have to be properly re-attached to the board which is a straightforward board repair with the right equipment, I’ve done hundreds and to date I’ve only failed to repair two.
Your video on this was spectacular, thank you for the clear explanation and zoomed video. I however do not have access to soldering equipment so I used the card method discussed above and shown in this video ua-cam.com/video/1Zf_ADyjS9k/v-deo.html . Seems to have sorted my 15" mid 2012 MBP with an 8gb in each slot.
Thanks you save me, i have a exam and i fixed
I am suddenly facing the same issue for a Macbook Pro 15 Mid 1015 A1398. I already tried your suggested solution but unfortunately that didn't fix it for me. Removing one of the RAM, both and/or replacing them with new ones did not fix it. I also replaced the Battery against a new one. I believe it might has to do with the logic board. Is it worth trying to bake it in the oven as some other videos suggest to do in this case and how long does such fix lasts. Regards. Good video.
Amazing, never thought of the Ram slot., thank you very much for sharing with the whole world.
M Ferna Happy to help!
@@PowerbookMedic Hi, thanks for the reply. We are based in Ontario, Canada & we do the same type of work what you are doing, I guess so in US., Re-balling & trouble-shoot to component level. If ever I may be any help to you I would be more than grateful. I see so many videos but so much waste of time, but this is them & they learn & teach the hard ways. I just say make simple so that all rookies may understand the techniques. Thank you once again for this help, I appreciate.
Hi, how are you? just need a little advice & help if you can. I am working on a MacBook Pro 2011 17" logic board 820-2914-B. The problem was "No display". Before I replacing the GPU I checked all the voltage & all fine power rails. The only thing was left for me to replace was the GPU., which I did. I got a bright display with the folder (HDD was not installed) but there were think vertical lines on the screen. I reflowed the GPU again but the problem still persists. Check all voltages again, all were fine. Maybe this GPU was defective, replaced with another new one, still no luck. Then noticed one of the video Rams was getting hot. Not to take any chances I replaced all 4 of them. After replacement the heat is normal on all the chips but still I cannot get rid of these vertical lines, used another screen with the cable, still line present. Did you come across problem like this one & if you kindly give me tips of what I am doing wrong or what I did not check yet? Your kind help will be appreciate if you can, Thanks in advance.
M Ferna Was the original GPU and the replacement GPU the exact same specs and model number? I have seen this problem before when the GPU was different from the original.
@@PowerbookMedic ... Thanks for the reply. I never even noticed this that there will ever be a problem with the spec. Now there is so much of a mix-up with the chipsets, I can never even tell which is the original, as I mix the old one with my defective inventory. Ok, I will check & let you know... Do you recommend from which web site should I purchase these original chipset? Thanks
But after doing this vertical lines have appeared which are permanent on my machine. How can I fix that?
I just verified that this was the issue with my mid 2012 15" MB pro model A1286. The question now is whether or not this machine will accept (and function properly) a single 16gb sodimm since one of the 8gb was removed.
First of all, thank you so much!! I've been dealing with this issue for months by, bizarrely, slapping the e key a couple of times and restarting the computer. It will be great to have a permanent fix. But I was wondering if replacing the logic board would also solve the issue with the ability to use both ram slots, since the damaged ram bay on the logic board is the source of the problem. I wouldn't go through the trouble except I have an old macbook on hand from which I could try to salvage the logic board... is it worth it to give that a try?
Liz Stone Happy to help! Yes, that will fix your problem, as long as the RAM chips are working on that machine.
@@PowerbookMedic Awesome. Thanks for the reply!
Hey so would it be a good idea to just get a different ram chip with higher memory and use just that one?
Yes . I did just that . It works ! Plus it doesn't matter if you are using CL9 or CL11 rated Sodimms . Hello , non Apple ram works too .
It works...
Thank you so much for this video, I suffered my laptop for 2yrs and I also put it in repair shop for 3moths and pay .. But the problem still the same
Will using one 8 gb ram stick be slower than using 2 4gb ram sticks ? You would lose dual channel speeds, correct ?
I found a video of an italian repairstore placing a plastic card jut beneath the ram-bay to solve this problem. I tried it and it works for me, the computer reads 16 GB ram... However the computer sometimes gets a single artifact on the screen and kernel panics, seems like after a two hour session. Do you know how to solve the kernel panic? Does this solution solve kernel panics? Thanks
Jakob The bad ram bay is what the artifacts and kernel panics.
@@PowerbookMedic Thanks, I removed the lower ram memory and it works fine now. I owe you a great thank you.
Jakob Happy to help!
I used that same Italian video and fixed my dodgey RAM bay. Now both slots work, no problem. Just slid a piece of old credit card underneath it which tightened the whole thing up. No more loose bottom slot. It's crude, but very effective.
@@geraldineosullivan3001 Did you remove the whole logic board to do this, or just cut a bit of plastic after removing the ram alone?
I have macbook pro 13 2015, Its keyboard does not work except power button, shift, ctrl and command key of left side. trackpad works fine. please suggest.
hi ,I am from India. i just watched your video its quite seems convincing. i have a Macbook pro 13' inch mid 12, i have issue like having small flicker or glitch at login and even if a run a program like chrome or switch to desktop 1, 2 or 3. i see the glitch or distortion only on upper half screen. I have done all the stuff like changing cables and GPU unit cleaning and shit, nothing works, i have experts on them saying changing or repairing motherboard. i don't want that somehow.it costing me 200$ with only 1 month guarantee.
Solve me with the options. please.
BOA Another way to fix it is by removing the RAM chip completely and just leaving that RAM slot empty.
Have u fix that.. plz let me know ..
I have the same problem ..
@@MrKhader786 yea i have issue , it helps for sometime but it can came again, better u cn buy or replace new gpu unit. Otherwise it ll ruin ur board.
apple was trying to charge me 500 for a new mother board and rma when it just the ram which is not hard to fix apple and its shady practices. That why till this day i choose not to but ther eproducts
