Great videos! You're one of the very few repair people that are clear and concise in your explanations of the technical issues in your repair process. A great teacher & a good individual. I have been learning a lot from you. Thank You With Best Regards, Shahbaz
Saw this procedure recently from a tech who hated his job. Liked your attitude. Thanks. Oh Question? who in Reno, or Sparks, Nevada would be a good person to fix my Macbook Pro with the same backlight out problem. Thanks
One has to question why the fuse blew in the first place? And will it happen again? Currently working a case with a blown fuse, replaced, blew again. Checked for a short to ground prior to replacing, none present. Replacing the driver next.
Hello, please excuse me for bothering you, tell me what part of the R5400, what parameters it has. / I'm trying to repair my Mac using your videos! Thanks
I have a a1278 2011 macbook where the previous owner hooked up a newer 2012 silver connector to the logicboard. The backlight is out now but the fuse is fine. I changed to the proper screen and still no backlight. I can see the flashing folder in the background.
If the backlight fuse is fine then diagnosis gets a little more difficult from that point. The next logical step is the LED driver board. It's unclear from your post if the previous owner actually replaced the connector on the board or not. If they did, it's possible they used the wrong connector as that could do it as well. If you're unable to troubleshoot it beyond that I'd recommend sending it to us to check out : www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67

Thanks for the Video, I tested the fuse as ok. But getting circa 8v between the fuse and ground, do you know what could that be caused by? No backlight, but works on external monitor and can see it on screen with a torch shone through the back of the lid. Cheers, Mark.
I've taken my Mac to a few different Apple stores and they can't tell me why my Macbook Pro's backlight just stopped working all of a sudden. It's not broken, it's just really dim. They said they went in and unplugged and plugged back in the display cord or whatever but I still can't see a thing unless I hook it up to an HDMI to see on my tv screen. There's no water damage or anything like that and they still can't tell me why, only how to solve my problem and that's $500 i don't want to spend. Please help?
It could be a number of things. A lot of times it is just the backlight fuse that needs to be replaced which is what this video addresses. If you aren't up for a repair yourself, we have a send-in repair service. You can find more info on our website at www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67
Hey Kyle, great video! I have a 2010 13” MacBook Pro and the screen won’t turn on when I power on the laptop. Plugging in a monitor solves the problem of not being able to use the laptop, so it’s just a display issue. The LCD outputs video (if you hold up a flashlight against the screen), but no backlight on the screen (the Apple logo also doesn’t light up). Most likely it’s an LCD backlight issue. With my model do you think the components that are damaged are the same as the ones in this video?
Powerbook Medic if it’s a problem with the display cable only, is it possible to replace just the cable? Or would I have to replace the whole display panel?
A no power issue on an A1278 could be any number of things. Try a replacement adapter and if that doesn't work a replacement magsafe board. If the unit still doesn't power on you likely have a board issue. We do have a send-in repair service if you're unable to figure it out on your own: www.powerbookmedic.com/mac-service.php

If i go to a service center to fix backlight IC problem in macbook pro2012 how much will they cost from me?
What part of the board did you ground the lead to when you tested the backlight fuse?
You can use any ground point on the board. We usually use a screw hole. The copper plane around the screw holes are Ground.

Marcus F It could be anything between the LED driver chip to the display cable. It would it tough to diagnosis it without it being in front of me.
Roll Tide! Great info.
Good job 👍👍👍

Great tutorial. Thanks
i cannot find board view software dmg plz give the link
What do you think of cleaning the zone with a pcb-cleaner? mine has backlight, but with sporadic shadows at the bottom of the display

Rendy Irawan Yes, it is a possibility. I would start with unplugging the display cable and examining the pins to make sure nothing is damaged.
Powerbook Medic if it’s a problem with the display cable only, is it possible to replace just the cable? Or would I have to replace the whole display panel?
Rendy Irawan It is possible, however it requires disassembly of the display itself.
How did you heat the items up so FAST!?
Here is the Hot Air Station we use, you can buy it on Amazon. Quick 861DW Hot Air Station

Thanks for the video. Whats the board view software you use and where to get/buy the boards schematic/diagrams. Thank you
OpenBoardView is the software. Search online for the schematics.
good job
very good
Thanks❤
My fuse is testing fine on both sides:/ I'm not seeing much that looks bad either:(
so many videos but NONE showing how to CHANGE the COMPLETE backlight for a Macbook Pro 13'' non retina keyboard.................... amazing
Usually it's included when you buy a new keyboard, just replace the whole thing (assuming you have voltage going to it from the board).
Hi dear please reduce your air it's too much blowing away components
thanks bro works well
