  • The Naturehike Mongar 2 lightweight backpacking tent with the add-on vestibule designed for it, were field tested during an overnight motorcycle camping trip to the Martin Dies Jr State Park in Texas. The weather was very fair and so there was no testing of the waterproof nature of the tent and vestibule. The tent and vestibule were more than adequate at holding all of my motorcycle gear and my setup Helinox Cot One, with the tent alone being sufficient if needed.
    To see how the tent and vestibule are setup, check out my video linked below.

    I just got the vestibule for mine. I’ve camped in the Mongar 2 in some pretty good thunderstorms and it held up well and was comfortable. I use a padded picnic blanket inside the tent for padding and extra insulation. I use a small hiking inflatable pad to sleep on.

    it's helpful seeing your gear setup inside. I just ordered one. Yeah, the tent color makes the lighting just like a soft box.

      Exactly. I actually thought that it might when choosing that colour.

    Great video. Thank you. Think i will be ordering the vestibule.
    Camped all year in my mongar, absolutely my favorite tent. Im hoping to still use it in the winter, with 2 sleeping bags. Rate my chances? 😂
    Live in Wales, we get bit of snow here occasionally.
    If its not enough, im tempted with the 4 season lanshan 2.
    Many thanks.

      I have my doubts about the Mongar 2 in the colder windier months, as you guys over there tend to have. The Mongar 2’s fly sheet is too far off the ground to block wind so I expect it will be cold inside. For that reason I think it’s great for warmer to cool weather. But you know your weather best and if you can bring enough insulation you’ll be fine, I’m sure. The Lanshan 2 has gotten good reviews in UA-cam, and from Brits using it on the moors and such.

    Great review, good to see it from all angles. I am looking for a well ventilated tent for use in our summer (live in Queensland Australia, we have similar summer weather to Texas. Humid with most days are 30+ degrees Celsius or 86 degrees plus Fahrenheit, dropping to around 25C during the night, (humidity never goes away!) This one coupled with the annex looks like the go. How do you think it would handle this sort of hot weather? Is the light grey colour likely to keep it cooler rather than the other colour options available (green, purple for example)?

      Thanks.
      The tent is double walled in that the inner tent is all mesh fine enough to stop no-see-ums, which also means that it would stop some breeze, but it will allow more airflow than a solid fabric. There are gaps to the ground all around, in addition to the two vents in the outer fly sheet. They will allow airflow into the tent, but whether that is enough depends on what you’re accustomed to camping in. In our summers I go in my air conditioned travel trailer … no tent. 😀
      As for the color - darker colors are heat sinks while the light color like I have would reflect some of the rays but would also let more in, so I think that they would be essentially about equal. You’d want to pitch both under tree shade and under those conditions the light color is better since it is brighter.

      @@GrumpyGoat Thanks for the tips, will most likely opt for the grey lighter colour and wear my eye mask to block early morning light. Anyhows, I am usually getting up very early for my bike rides to beat the daytime heat! That air conditioned trailer sounds like pure luxury!

    I've watched all your videos on the mongar 2. I just ordered the same tent and same color. The tent looks great and seems like it performs well. How has the add on gearshed performed?

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  2 роки тому

      It performs beautifully for a compact lightweight tent, suited best for 3 season camping. Very pleased with it. I only brought and used the vestibule one so far and it was brilliant. I expect to using it more in the coming camping outings, as soon as the weather cooperates.

      Indeed it is. Easy to carry, easy to set up, and has enough room for one person including a cot. Should be cool enough in the warmer months.

    Hey there! I'm highly considering this vestibule. Do you still recommend it after 12 months? Thanks 😊

    • @GrumpyGoat
      @GrumpyGoat  2 роки тому

      I have not used it since the videos made with it so I have no reason to not recommend it. It resists rain based on the test and it greatly increases floor space and allows one to cook outside off and rain so it’s a no brainier.

    • @saifaldin_

      If you camp alone and go for longer trips (carrying more gear) the vestibule would help even though it’s not a must.
      But if you camp with another person, I would really recommend adding the vestibule. Keeps everything covered in rain and at night, while freeing up your sleeping area totally.
      I sometimes pair the tent with a tarp canopy if the conditions are not too harsh - longer setup time and more weight to carry, but more open to the views and covers a bigger area.
