These sort of videos may seem useless to some, but for somebody like me coming from a neglectful/abusive family background these are the sorts of videos I NEED. I need people to break down these basic things coz my parents didn’t even teach me to clean myself so I have a lot of learning to catch up on
Sending lots of love your way 🤗💕
I completely relate to this too. Thank goodness for Dr. Dray!
Praying for you and sending love your way! God bless, Jesus Loves you. :) ♡
Bless you.
I am so sorry that this happened to you.
I've hit the jackpot with this channel.
Aisha Girl, totally! You're 3 months in. I bet you've changed everything. I'm 2 months in and I keep finding Dray nuggets that change my routine in some way.
I've been taught all my life to wear gloves for protecting the skin on the backs of my hands from premature aging. I wear gloves year-round while driving, even though I habitually apply SPF to my hands on a daily basis. Perhaps overkill, but it has become a second nature habit for me. Having a Korean mother, I can get away with nothing lol
Brilliant! Your hands are and will continue to thank you and mom.
Same. I always felt so fancy when my grandma got me gloves for going out and later for driving.
She always reminds me of Edna Maude. Every time I consult her for fashion. (i.e fashionable sun protection advice) if it's a bad choice she says "You can't be seen in this darling this is a hobo suit".
You just have beautiful hands!
@@elliottvic she does play around with nail polishes now!
I think you are the best person on UA-cam!
Thank you so much! I hope you have a great day :)
Definitely one of the best. Pure.
I was born with Eczema and have always dealt with skin issues. My mom used to tape cotton gloves around the wrists to keep me from pulling them off and scratching as a child. Now, I wear them willingly and always notice a difference not only in the health of the skin on my hands but also the rest of my body (less scratching and tearing of the skin). Moms must know best...
Totally love this routine. I’m a nurse...I so needed this routine, and my husband gets terrible cracking on his fingers during the winter. He was so pleased when I did his hand care. He looked so cute 🥰with his cotton gloves on...of course now I’m in trouble...precedent set👐🏻. Thank you Dr. Dray. Sending love from ATX ❤️.
You 'nailed' it.
I bought a tube of CeraVe yesterday & I put it on my hands after I wash my face & put the CeraVe PM moisturizer on b4 going to bed. I have almost the whole line of CeraVe products. Thank you Dr Dray for telling us about CeraVe! I'm loving it!! 👏👏👏👍👍🙆♀️💜❣🙋♀️
She got me hooked on the ceravie ointment for lips and the diabetic foot cream...among other ceravie items. 🌻
I wore shellac and then the dreaded "acrylics" for years with no problems. Six months ago I contracted a bacterial infection from my local nail salon. One of my nails was in bad shape and my GP gave me the exact advice. No fake nails, don't cut your cuticles and let your nails breath!!! I can honestly day my nails have never looked better!!! Great advice!
Yikes!! Thanks for sharing Ms Melanie and I hope things are better
I was used to having polish on my toenails most of the time, but the nails on my big toes started to break off, crumble. Apparently, I had fungal growth. I took an oral medication that the podiatrist prescribed for about a year. My big toenails are healed now, and I no longer wear polish. I will, however, use a stain, which allows the nail bed to “breathe.”
As someone who grew up with eczema I can confirm your tips help! About 20 years ago I found one dermatologist who knew how to help me! Where others had no clue. Happy to report its finally under control, but it did take some time to find what worked for me. Thank you Dr. Dray 😊 stay blessed.
Dr. Dray, would you make a video talking about hair care? I've spent so much money buying products that do nothing improve my dry/ damaged hair. I have dry skin as well and it's improved so much since I started following your tips! You rock!
stop wasting money on hair care products would be step number 1
Bruna Alves has she recommended good products to you?
you may want to look into the “curly girl method”, aka avoiding sulfates and silicones, using a sulfate free shampoo, following with a silicone free conditioner, optionally sealing in with a bit of oil, and using a t-shirt/microfiber towel to dry your hair and using a satin/silk pillowcase at night. I’ve always had dry hair and when I was younger even just doing a pre-shampoo oil treatment or mixing some oil into my shampoo helped a lot.
@@eunnikins Look, i hate to be "that person", but avoiding sulfates entirely is really not the best idea.
Even if your hair is really curly, washing it with a "regular" shampoo once per week (or at least every two weeks) is completely fine.
The "curly girl method" does contain alot of helpful advice for bringing your hair back to life, but when you watch alot of videos about it, at a certain point it almost has a cult-like feel to it.
The fear-mongering around certain ingredients (sulfates especially) often ends up doing more harm than good down the line. Sulfates are not the devil and even silicones are mostly fine if your hair isn't damaged.
@@GINA-fc5gq yes, I use sulfate shampoo occasionally for build up and scalp health and they are necessary if you use silicone products. a lot of people learn CGM and then use what they want after they understand the function of ingredients and styling techniques. This was super helpful for me after years of trying to moisturize my hair and it would still be frizzier and drier than my friends who did low maintenance stuff. I actually got to a point where my hair would feel bouncy and healthy. But I totally get you on the restriction, I think most of the community has realized that you have to find what works for you. Important point, thank you!
Love your videos Dr. Dray. Thanks for continuing to show us modest priced products that we can use to take care of our skin. It's so appreciated!
Thanks Ms Amy & happy friday!
I am totally inspired to diss mani/pedi based on this and your foot video. This will be first in 40 years. (geez - ). I calculated how much I spend for this service and I can see why the nail salon I go to is very very happy with me. Thank you for this fabulous information. I feel really confident, I'll be able to make it through and may be some clear polish, with your help. Once again, Dr. D - you are a $ saver and and inspiration to get back to basics. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks for watching! Happy savings!
I've found your channel fairly recently and I'm so happy I did. I've been binge watching all of your videos and you have managed to answer all of my skin questions without preying on my fears and insecurities by pushing and selling. I really appreciate all of your time and honesty. You are so sweet and your educational videos are so encouraging. Love your channel love you you and hope you keep doing what you are doing! ❤❤❤
Your hands and nails are absolutely beautiful! I cannot stop singing your praises. I am so grateful for you. I totally love this minimalist hand care routine. I have thrown away so much stuff since I found you ten days ago. When I get home today I will be getting rid of my cuticle cutter, cuticle trimmer, cuticle sticks, and cuticle cream! I rarely wear polish and I do moisturize often, but I plan on moisturizing the way you do with the white gloves. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
thanks for watching
You are EXCELLENT!!!
I never knew twezzerman will resharpen tweezers. Thanks Dr. Dray. Great tip. ✅
Yes - giving the nails a break from nail polish is SO IMPORTANT!!!! I developed onycholysis from consistent use of it and can no longer wear polish. Please, please, for the love of God, take a break!!
Is it safer to use brands with natural ingredients??
@@nicom6888 nope! natural is not always better
Applaud your cautions regarding nail clippers. So many women visit nail salons and are not aware of health violations practiced at many of these places. Take your own emery board and keep an eye out for transfer infections when nail techs don't properly disinfect from one customer to another.
Very true!
Thank you so much! I really need this. They say your hands show your true age, but mine look soooooo much older! I've worked with my hands my whole life. I was my Mother's housekeeper (no gloves) and then working in hospital constantly washing! I have the things you recommend. Can't wait to start! Thank you so much!
I love the Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream! I get terrible cracks in my fingers and have been using this for years to minimize that. I have tubes of it all over my house. Also, I use food service gloves for chopping wet vegetables and doing dirty jobs around the house and to protect from dust while I clean the house. I also use dishwashing gloves. This protection method with the gloves has really worked well this winter. I have used the white cotton glove trick with vaseline and love that too. I agree about the cuticle cream. Recently, I bought some and inadvertently transferred it to my eye area, and it was not pleasant.
Love these detailed videos you're doing on your routine. I've never been a fan of pushing back cuticles. It totally grosses me out for some reason 😂. Love seeing your channel grow!!!!
Thanks Ms MIchelle! Yeah the cuticle push back in bad news bears. Hope you are having a great day :)
I have used the cotton gloves at bed time but I don’t get the cotton since it is absorbent so it pulls the lotions away from my hands. I prefer the other gloves which are fuzzy and have aloe in them. I don’t feel as if it sucking up my lotion.
Also, so glad to hear you say that your nails need to breath. I have always thought that and when I told that to a manicurist she poo pooed my logic saying, “your nails are dead they do not need to breath”. I wanted to argue the point, but what’s the point. She is the “professional “ so I felt like I didn’t have a dog in the hunt, even though I felt I was right.
B Smith lovely! They’re nail technicians meant to make your nails cosmetically pretty buy not necessarily healthy. That just cracks me up.
I had terrible eczema when I was a baby but now only get it in the winter with the dry/cold weather. Currently in one of the worst flare ups to date on both my hands and wrists…I have the aveeno cream already, I'm currently on amazon ordering some cotton gloves. Never would've thought of that! Thanks for posting this video!!
I've been applying sunblock on my hands since you mentioned it. But I didn't realize I needed 3xs as much as I'm currently applying.
no such thing as too much, lol
Aloha Dr. Dray, I’m a little late watching this, but I am definitely going to try this. I need to heal the area around all of my nails. Constantly peeling and bleeding and so sore. I don’t have the Aveeno Eczema Cream, but I do have CeraVe Healing Ointment and CeraVe Cream. I am going to begin the long process of healing my cuticles. Thank you for taking the time to do this segment. This was exactly what I needed.
Thanks!
Thanks so much Dr Drey, I've ordered the gloves and Aveeno from Amazon and I'm following your routine. I'm so grateful for your practical and straightforward advice. God bless you! Colleen Paul.......
Thanks!!
Real life advice on taking care of your skin. Thank you for the work you put in :)
So true & thank you so much!!
Here I am again watching your old videos over again because I love your content so much! Agh. Have you thought about doing an update foot care routine? or is it still the same? Also, it would be nice if you did a video on toenail fungus and tips/products that would work for it. Just a suggestion. Hope you're having a good week!
I'm sharing this and the foot care with 2 of my friends, especially the one with diadiabetes. Thank you.
Thankyou so much Ive been using this routine for a week and my dry hands are finally baby soft 😊
These videos are very helpful, and I appreciate the fact you provide affordable options.
Thanks Dr. Dray! Going to try this concoction and see if it helps. I too wash my hands constantly at work and now have lizard hands. Have a great day ☺
Thanks! Hope you find it helpful too :)
Dr. Dray, You are just the best! Great video as always! Look forward to your videos everyday! Love and Light 💖 Carli
You too Ms Carli :)
Dr Dray, I wish you all the best, you're a truly amazing woman! It's like an acquired taste when watching your videos, at the beginning nobody takes to you because you strip everything of lies and marketing, and then viewers slowly recognise what a gem you are! Greetings from South Europe
:)
Hello Dr. Dray, Thank you for the great informative videos! As a cosmetologist plus an artist most of my life my hands have taken a beating. I've been doing what you do now & see results but also enjoy a little longer nail free edge. Recently discovered Nail Tek strengthener #4. I also GENTLY push back & oil cuticles. I'm 100% pleased with how my hands & nails look...fantastic!
I wish Dr Dray had a How Ro Take Care of Your Skin for kids and teens. My adult life would have been easier after that! Haha
Thank you for this video. I recently started using a hand cream in order to keep my hands/nails hydrated after washing(in an effort to keep my nails from breaking) So I use hand cream often, all day long. I’ve been doing this for about a month . I’ve noticed that my palms feel irritated now. I looked at the Nivea hand cream I’m currently using and it has fragrance ugh.. so I’m gonna be looking for some good quality hand creams. You should do a video on ingredients to avoid in hand creams. Thanks so much
Very nice. I use Aveeno baby fragrance free, on my hands and feet, which works well. I’m in Australia and buy it In Woolworths. I bought a Cerave foaming cleanser and moisturiser yesterday, from Chemist Warehouse, the only place we seem to be able to buy Cerave in Aussie and they didn’t seem to have as large a range of products as you show in your videos. Seems as though I will have to buy the Cetaphil sunscreen, which seems similar to your Cerave sunscreen. Thanks for all your videos, they have really helped me figure out what to use that’s practical, aside from all the marketing hype. I’m aiming to have a minimal amount of affordable and non smelly products that work, based on your advice 👍❤️
Just discovered your videos and truly appreciate how practical your recommendations are! Thank you so much!
Hi dr Dray. One of the most useful videos! So rarely someone actually has a video about hand care! Thank you! You have such beautiful hands! I also use sunscreen on my hands. The only thing that the steering wheel of my car now is so dirty 😣. Thanks a lot for useful info!
Thanks!
Thank you for this important lesson in hand care, just what i am looking for.much appreciated
thanks for watching!
With Canadian winter ☃️❄️ on the way... My hands 🙌 Thank You!! Simple and effective that’s what I need! Your hand always look nice and hydrated 👍 Have a lovely weekend! xo Stacy
Dr. Dray ~ might you have suggestions for hands and nails/cuticles for Senior Citizens. We often deal with dryness and brittle nails as well as cuticles. Thank you for your consideration and I appreciate all the wonderful suggestions and information that you share with your viewers. You have made a wonderful difference in my life. :-)
Great tips! Do you know Gloves in a Bottle Shielding Lotion? it is a lotion that forms a shield over that hands that protects them against repeated hand washing and comes of with the natural exfoliating proces. It comes in a sunscreen version too. What do you think of it?
Thanks for sharing this Ms Xenia, as this looks like an awesome product. I would love to try it out sometime!
The volume seemed louder this time and I could hear you well. Thanks for showing your routine and for the sunscreen links. I forgot to mention that one sunscreen that works for me is the Alba Botanica Mineral Sunscreen for Sensitive Skin. Thanks for all your efforts to educate us!
Thanks Ms Sherry and glad to "hear" the volume was improved. Hope you are having a great night :)
CeraVe in the tub is also a bacteria barrier cream. My dermatologist said to use it before going into any hospital or nursing home.
pro6703 great to know. I wonder if any thick emollients act that way? I feel like Vaseline does also... Dr. Dre?
I adore Aquaphor.
Hi Dr Dray, can you do an organisation video, tips for staying organised, how you plan, if you use a planner etc x
i don't do any of that
I use the Neutrogena Norwegian hand cream. It really helps my dry hands
i like it
Debbie Hibburt that is the one I have used for years. I keep one by my bed, in my purse , in my car and one at my desk! I
Great stuff! I have had eczema all my life......
Dr Dray, my nail beds don't have the half moons. Is there a reason why and a way to fix that? Also you're a Godsend to all of us with educating us so well on something so important. Literally life saver. 💖
Another great video! As a follow up, do you recommend donning rubber gloves when you wash dishes? Thanks, Dr. Dray!
Thanks! I do
I wear white cotton gloves underneath the rubber gloves. Although protected from the heat of the water, my hands can become irritated from the rubber. Just buy larger size rubber gloves and you won’t have a problem wearing over the cotton ones.
Thank you for all your information here, so wonderful!. I do want to know if using this method with vinyl gloves would be ok so I could do housework while wearing. Also, love your video creativity of doing a video about hands showing hands only...cute!!
I've always wondered what those of us with brittle, dry nail concerns do about protecting the nails from regular water exposure. I was wearing clear coat polish and even a Keratin polish every so often to help keep excess moisture away from my nails but wearing it for too long seems to cause more issues than not wearing it.
Using a nail and cuticle oil helps. My nails were very weak and would break often. But with regular use along with hand cream I notice my nails getting stronger and grow quicker.
Awesome content and two thumbs up, Dr. Dray! Your nails always look so healthy, clean and strong! Beautiful! Tell us about nail ridges too. I take the Natrol biotin everyday. Love it :)
Thanks! Related to many things...cuticle creams and cuticle trimming is a big culprit
Dr. Dray, great info! Just discovered you on UA-cam. Love the music on this video!
Love this! Thank you!
Hey Dr Dray I have a product reccommendation, it's the intensive relief hand cream by palmers. It has oats, mineral oil and is cruelty free. Oh and fragrance free!
Palmers are not cruelty free, unfortunately...
You may have addressed this in another video, if so, please let me know. Does putting hand cream on before putting sunscreen on your hands (or your face and body for that matter) interfere with the absorption and/or “bonding” of the sunscreen? Thanks!
Another great video. Love your videos so much! I'm actually zooming in to the drug store now to find some cotton gloves. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks! Have a great weekend :)
Absolutely loveeee your videos!!! 🙌🏽 please do one on hair care and hair loss! 💙
thanks
YESSSSS please. Also hair products with ceramides
Your videos are wonderful! Thank you so much!! What do you think of buffing nails?
Another great vlog, Dr. Dray! I'll have to look for cotton gloves from the drug store. I really like the Udderly Smooth hand cream. Have you heard of this line and/ or what do you think of it? Also, I think, using rubber gloves when doing dishes has saved by hands and nails. Always look forward to you daily vlogs👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊
Thanks Ms JUlie!
Hi Dr Dray, my name is Janna I'm 14 and struggle with mild acne. I wanna ask you 2 questions, my first question is that my dermatologist prescribed me benzaclin, do you think that would help and how long does it usually take to see a difference if it does work. Question number 2 is I have seen people say how jojoba oil oil, grapeseed oil is good for skin as a moisturizer and helps with acne. I'm sorry that this is long and not reliable to the video. Thank you❤️
Janna hi! I would discusss with the dermatologist who prescribed the benzaclin how long based on their assessment of your acne, but yes it is a good medicine. I would not use these oils or leave them on the face
Really enjoying your videos. I’ve adjusted my skin care routine and it seems to be improved.
I would like to stop manipulating my cuticles, but if I don’t at least push them back, they tend to grow 1/4 of the way up my nail and then start peeling back with hang nails. I’ve been using gloves and petroleum jelly at night and it helps but it’s not enough. My cuticles look they’re best when I pushed the back a little in the shower.
Funny enough, my cuticles looked their best when I was on Accutane. Actually, it cleared up a few skin problems besides the acne while I was on it. Except the persistently chapped lips.
Thanks! Using an aha cream around the cuticles can help improve the look of the nail without requiring cuticle pushing
jojoba oil is amazing for the cuticles. i started using it to help with nail peeling and breaking, and it has helped with that tremendously, but i also never need to push my cuticles back. i put it into a nail oil pen and apply it throughout the day :)
I will use Elta MD Intense, it has mineral oil and parrafin - I didn't get it for my hands but the tube is huge
OK, now i feel like removing my nail polish and giving my hands a 'facial'.
I, too, prefer short nails. I play piano and flute. Long nails, while they might look great, don't work for me.
I like Kiss My Face Face Factor... contains zinc and doesn't leave a white cast.
Our hands look alike... long fingers. =D
Used to play the violin many moons ago...long nails were a no no as well :)
Could you please do a video on Paronychia? I get this quite often, and it’s so painful. 😢
I used to do gel manicures (semi-permanent nail colour or whatever it is called--- i'm italian, i don't know what they call in the U.S). Anyway I stopped because it occured to me that the lamp used to dry-polymerise the nail polish is UV.......................is that like a mini-tanning bed??? Can it cause cancer? Thanks in advance for your answer!
So happy I found Dr. Dray!!!
Thank you
Great, informative video. Now I will most definitely stop pushing the cuticles! I love the cetaceans products you mentioned.
I wash my hands so much ... I teach teens with severe disabilities.
Just wondering... what do you think of the neutrogena hand cream? Okeefe’s hand cream?
it is nice but okeefes is not good
I've been using a cream (OTC) containing hydroquinone for about 3 weeks, twice a day on my face, neck, and the backs of my hands (followed by sunscreen). I can already see improvement in my age spots/brown spots especially on my hands but also on my face. My spots are not especially obvious and can pass for light freckling, but I don't like them. I have very pale skin that is almost translucent and already have blue and red blood vessels to cover with foundation. I don't want age spots too. I've read though that an ill effect of hydroquinone is your skin turning blue-black, pretty awful sounding, but I don't know what the real risk is. What do you think? I was just going to try this for a month to see if it made any difference at all, but because it's clearly working I'd like to continue. I'm 61. I don't have melasma or sensitive skin. Thank you!
I recommend seeing a dermatologist for evaluation of your skin concern
Have you thought of how retinoids could affect nail growth?
Hi Dr. Dray. Would you recommend the same hand and foot routines for winter time? I get very painful cracks/fissures on the tips of my thumbs and sometimes my heels as well. The pain is horrific! I would love to prevent these from happening! Thank you!
i do this year round
what are your thoughts about using a nail file? Thank you if you have time to read this (: really glad I found your channel.
You can buy cotton gloves at Daiso for 2/$1.50
Awesome video!!!
thanks :) hope you are having a great night :)
I have ruined the natural state of my cuticles, so now that I leave them be, they grow back the wrong way. Too much skin, ruins the look of my nail. Should I leave them be to start restiring the natural state? Like no cutting and pushing back for a while and then only gentle manicure to correct the issue?
Hi I love your videos! Does cuticle grow back? I picked it as a child and now have a bumpy and sad nail. Any recommendations?
Supergoop has a SPF 40 hand cream, if you need something tiny for a small bag, wish sunscreen manufacturers would make sample sizes for small purses!
unfortunately that has fragrance
Dr dray my proximal nail fold is always dry even though i moisturize daily 2x. How can i soften that skin?
I have horrible dry hands and brittle nails, but I swear by a routine similar to this that uses Aquaphor.
My hands are bad lately because my lotion gloves are constantly lost
I remember watching video about what your nails can tell you about your health they said the half moon on nails could mean something bad about your health but I can't remember what was said but you probably know about it but js just incase
Hey Dr. Dray. What do you think is good for dry cuticles? I used cuticle oil but it doesn’t last long.
Once again, you have saved me a lot of moola. I watch a lot of beauty gurus and those videos are really painful to my wallet. The appeal of products is strong with this one🤪.
gld to hear!
Omg i have cotton socks(same as the hands cotton) with moisturiser on while watching THE CIRCLE on Netflix lol xx Andrea do you believe the undereye area need a different moisturiser than the face xxx
No eye creams!!
How long do you typically leave the gloves on? I pick my cuticles (bad habit) and want to stop! Any advice? Love your channel! Ready to buy natural calm because of you too!
i sleep in them, or wear them an hour
Dr. Dray I like to generally mix retinol with the moisturizer. Would that be okay to do the same with this routine?
Does being vegan affect your nails and hair? Thank you.
What do you think about driving gloves? I hate any products on my hands and it washes off when I wash my hands so I find gloves are nice
Anh Le I wear em because I’m bringing back Madonna circa 1982! Lol
Hi, I'm loving your youtubes. I don't do much with my nails because I just can't be bothered get precious about them. Turns out that's not a bag thing. Do you have any advice on dealing with hangnails?
Kaleidoscope Eyes file them!
What can you do if you constantly have hangnails? Thank you!!!
So is that treatment of moisturiser and spf safe and ok for my skin Dr Dray? Does it have benefits or have harmful effects ?
the benefit of spf is skin cancer protection...the harm for spf and moisturizer is zero
Hi Dr Dray! I was wondering what hand liquid soap would you recommend? I recently had an allergic reaction to Dial hand soap, my right hand blew up like a balloon and had a painful rash. I'm pretty sure the soap was the cause of my rash because now that I stop using it my hands are much better.
Seventh generation hand soap amzn.to/2JFtLCU
Attitude hand soap amzn.to/2AKwkAE
You give soo much hope love you soo much 😘😘😘😘
:)
Since I stopped using nail polish (apart from a big event) I have noticed how my nails have notably improved. I didn't know that pushing back the cuticle is also bad for the hands. I'm surprised you only clip the nails, not file them. I don't like the sharp edges from a clipper and tend to file afterwards. Do you clip your nails when wet?
i don't cut them wet
Dr. Dray, I too (like angelf.c. above) file my nails after clipping or for general maintenance. I've read that it weakens nails to file back and forth and you should only file in one direction. Is that true or an old wives tale?
You don't cut nails wet, but it there a reason? Is is bad? I find it easier to cut toe nails while wet. Thank you! j.
Would disposable nitrile gloves work, or too occlusive?
I was watching another you tuber who has been Derma rolling for 8 yrs. She said it puts tiny little holes in the skin and then the skin knows it has been hurt so it rushes to repair itself and while doing so you build up more collegian. Then she went on to say that your skin care products go deeper into the skin to help it make it better. I know your feelings about Derma rolling but I am curious if this Derma rolling does indeed build up collegian? I am not going to do this. She even admitted that it does hurt some. Just wanted to know if what is saying is true. Thank you.
i discuss this in multiple Q&As
so the cotton gloves prevent water loss from hands right?
Can you recommend any hand creams with SPF ?
