This is the difference between an influencer and an actual medical professional who is qualified to give you advice. Influencers will swear up and down that you need those fad ingredients, toners, probiotics, whatever in your routine for the perfect skin with a discount code to boot. Medical professionals will promote the simplest routine possible that actually have scientific evidence backing it.
It really annoys me that certain companies also sell their products for an ungodly amount of money. Then you check the ingredients and most of the time half the stuff in these creams, serums, and toners are inexpensive ingredients with loads of fragrances and irritants. Thankfully there are more and more companies who are stepping up their game and not overcharging us.
@@Jess-737 Thanks for letting us know. I sure save so much money listening to her. Imma probably stay with the BHA and AHA from paula bc that is literally the only thing that works
I feel her 😂 . Anytime I've falled into the trap of buying a scrub I've used it on my heels, anywhere else it was too aggresive and abrasive. 🙁 Now when I feel like I might buy some stuff I don't need because of marketing, I go back to Dr Dray's videos to stop myself.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate dr dray who recommends so many AFFORDABLE skincare options when many people in the skincare industry (esthetician’s, some plastic surgeons, spas, etc) will recommend the most outrageously priced skincare items......
You have to realize that most of the AFFORDABLE drugstore skincare options are filled with parabens & preservatives than active ingredients. Estheticians recommend more expensive skincare items because they have more active ingredients that will target your specific skin concerns. Everyone's skin is different so not every product will work for everyone but you can't target hyperpigmentation if you're solely using cetaphil... I'm sorry it just won't happen.
You see this all the time and here’s why. Derms typically do recommend drug store skincare products... their cheap and easy to get your hands on. Esthetician’s care more about where the product is made and how it’s sourced along with the ingredients it’s made up by. It’s same with hair. Drug store hair care is not the same as salon quality. It all just depends on your budget at the end of the day. Do what works for YOU!
I started using Vaseline on my face, neck and decolletage when I was a cash strapped student in the late 80s. I'm 53 now and am asked often what I do to care for my skin, because it's in good shape. Over 35 years, I reckon I've spent about $100 bucks on moisturizer, and happy to brag about that.
I used to do this and my skin was the best. However I developed sun spots and from then on had to use sun screen. Complete turn of skin. I so wanted to continue to use Vaseline but I was stuck with suns spots and never been able to get rid of them. The more I try, the worse I have damaged my skin trying.
Unsure, I once asked the beautician ladies at the store if it was okay to use Vaseline. They said, "oh no, never use Vaseline! Just keep using the moisturizer you're using already, and stick with that. You're skin is so beautiful and dewy and healthy, don't ruin that." Didn't get around to telling them, I was using Vaseline. That was 25 yrs ago. Still use it, and I still have great skin (I'm 60).
THANK YOOUUUUUU for #10. I'm a gynecologist, and I spend so.much.time trying to get people to kick the feminine wash habit. Dr. Dray is 1000% right! Warm water and a nice gentle washcloth will do just fine to clean the vulva. (and don't even worry about cleaning the vagina at all. Totally not necessary.) If you work out or are sweaty/smelly, totally fine to use a mild, scent-free soap in the groin and over hair bearing areas. But keep that stuff away from the delicate tissues of the labia! They are mucous membranes, just like the inside of your mouth. And no one puts soap in their mouth!
I love hearing professionals rant about the idiotic marketing related to their industry. It is satisfying to know where marketers are trying to trick me to get my money. Thank you for this informative video!
@@lisabaughn my Husband had a tub of fragrance free Vaseline lotion in his bag for work (he's a courier and in the winter time his hands get VERY dry) his coworker tried to push him into switching to this gimmicky 'organic' heavily fragrenced overpriced cream because "it's natural" and "Not putting all those chemicals on your skin!" He basically told her to mind her business unless she was his dermatologist. I was so proud of him
@@SjofnBM1989 What a great story SB!!!! Perfect response! And I'm glad he's doing well with that lotion. Hooray! Same thing happened to me just today actually! At my orthodontist, the reclining dentist chairs face a large window that faces the sun during my appointments. Instead of waiting for my doc in those chairs, I now choose to wait in a different chair that puts my back to that window instead of facing it. It was overcast and snowing out today, and when I still opted for the sun-free waiting chair, one of the assistants remarked that there was no sun out today, like I was a little coocoo. I ignored and just stayed in my chair, envisioning my future pretty complexion. It's great to have info you can take to the bank. 🙌
What about contact lens wearers with sensitive eyes? Can they also use regular moisturizer around eyes, or need special eye cream? Many moisturizers have a note 'do not apply near eye area'
Kimberly Painter CeraVe! It has tons of good things in it to moisturize and is non irritating, non fragranced, and personally doesn’t worsen my break outs
I wanna ask, I have fine lines under my eyes and dark circles so will just using a daily moisturizer be enough to resolve those issues or should I use eye creams that specifically target those problems?
Oils can be helpful. I have eczema all over on my body several years ago. My dermatologist prescribed me Triamcilonone ointment and asked me to put a moisturizer on top after the medicine. I followed the order and skin got less irritated, but never clear up. After 2 or 3 years, I found the Viva sweet almond oil and I finally saw the light for this long journey. Only a momth of usage (lubricant everynight, especially right after shower), my eczema was almost gone! There are couple spots with persistent eczema still require medicine and normal moisturizer, but the rest area was stable with just the oil! Thus, I do think oils can do something good to our skin, especially to help recovering our damage skin barrier. I am still using my sweet almond oil to maintain a healthy skin and I love it!
Since watching and listening to you at the beginning of lockdown, I’ve stopped buying fancy expensive products! In fact I now only use Cerave and my skin feels and looks healthy and happy. I still have wrinkles, hey I’m 59, but the expensive products didn’t help either! I feel my skin definitely looks brighter and maybe that’s because I’ve simplified my routine! So to end my skin looks amazing and so does my bank balance lol! Thank you Dr Dray you’re pretty amazing!
I use the hydrating cleanser bar of soap morning and night, eye repair cream morning and night, vitamin c serum morning, facial moisturizing pm morning and night (not a fan of the am one...I use spf separately) skin renewing serum cream at night! I also use the cerave moisturizing lotion on my body! So much cheaper than all these fancy brands, but has all the important ingredients! Who cares about the packaging! My skin certainly doesn’t haha!
Exactly. I use Cerave as well. I didn't plan on having everything from the same brand, it just happened. My sunscreen, cleanser, moisturizer and retinol serum are all Cerave. My skin feels great.

Because of following Dr. Dray all I use on my face is CeraVe AM, CeraVe PM, and CeraVe facial cleanser. And my bath soap is all unscented now too. I'm 60 years old and my skin looks pretty darn good!

Simple skincare: Cerave cleanser and daily body/face moisturizer, mineral sunscreen ... tretinoin added at night. My skin texture has never looked better! Plus, NO hormonal acne!
Same. My skin has never looked better. In the morning I double cleanse with Simple face wash/Garnier Micellar water, Cerave basic moisturiser and Drunk Elephant SPF 30. This works like a charm!
Rachel I do the same thing. It's what I've done my whole life. I don't use Tretinion though. But use all the other things. I'm 53 and happy with my skin and my simple skincare routine. 😊
So very thankful and grateful that I found your channel. I’m old..almost 74 yrs old. Not bad...I’ve stayed out of sun and used sun screen for last 30 years. Used to tan...gave it up. You’re so down to earth, you’re adorable, you’re funny, you are truthful ( my gut instinct has been right my entire life..99% of time). No bs...just the facts. I buy some of the products you mention...Cerave, Cetaphil, day care moisturizers all contain sun screen. I’ve tried products when I was younger...but just rely now on simple, good quality facial/body products (because I’ve been watching you for 3 weeks ... almost every night before going to sleep. ). I know, for sure, when I was first hitting my teen years, I don’t even remember any eye creams being talked about. I was thinking...a few months back, do I really need eye creams? Thank you. I live alone...only child...single parent, hectic job...and helped raise all 5 of my grandchildren in between....and fostered/adopted several pets from animal shelters. Grandkids all grown up..busy with living life. I’m usually alone (but I did adopt 2 sickly stray cats .. both at different times. Some health issues...many losses of loved ones (both human and non human)...even my 37 yr. old daughter..so suddenly...heart condition. It runs in my entire family. Thought I’d be long gone by now. I’ve never used any type of foundation. I don’t like the way it feels. Had to stop working due to fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, bulging herniated disks in spine, sciatica (both sides...what fun!), arthritis, tendinitis, sinusitis, arthritis....and I’m a tiny woman. Been on my own a long time...never remarried...family and all my pets always came first. Still do. I’m very happy alone. I think I’ve grown and observed and learned, changed and evolved into preferring hanging with non humans now. Many adult humans just annoy me and exhaust me. Sorry, rambling. Just want to thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions, as a dermatologist...and as someone who just cares about others who don’t know any better...and we sometimes think the latest trend will help us look younger. Old age isn’t fun....but I’m calmer, wiser and have learned to live in the present moment. Took me years of sorrow and heartbreak..to learn about life. The only thing we have control over is our thoughts, our feelings, our perceptions, our opinions and our actions. So...now I kinda just try to go with the flow. Thank you Dr. Dray!! What a wealth of information to cut through all the nonsense we receive in the marketing of skin care products. I plan to refrain from trying out the newest “miracle” product from now on.
For me the pandemic has highlighted what’s really important. My nails look fabulous BECAUSE I haven’t seen the inside of a nail salon since February. My skin looks great and I’m only using basic skincare and sunscreen. Thanks Dr. for helping demystify skincare!!
So true. The wonderful side of lockdown, paying attention to good and expert knowledge. Changed and simplified my skin and hair regimen, both never looked so good in a decade. Thank you for all the precious tips, Dr. Dray.
With almost 80% of your thoughts Im agree. BUT the Rose water is absolutly a must for me. The only product Ive used for ages And BTW There is a lots of proven evidences behind it as calming and hidrating ..... My skin is just amaizing and the rose water is one of the reasons. BUT dont buy whatever is on the shelf. The only one I use from ages is organic Bulgarian rose water. Expansive but, real and proovenly the best quality
We need minimalism in all aspects of our lives - skincare, makeup, clothing, furniture, etc. It’s a huge carbon footprint for the world & mostly just marketing gimmicks designed to spend whatever we earn 🙏 just my two cents 🙏
I've used lash serums for years, it has absolutely worked but it's so expensive and I can't be bothered with it anymore. My lashes are short and that's how I look... So tired of needing to perfect everything 🙄.
lqj I use Kate Blanc Cosmetics for now. Just any good quality in glass bottle. But the main thing is do not put on dry skin!!!! Moisturized your skin with some cream and only after that use castor oil on your lushes. I am doing this for 15 years already and it works like a magic for me!
So love this video. I had a stunningly beautiful, sweet mother who modeled professionally. She told me same thing on feminine washes, toner, wipes, face oils, and eye cream. She looked 30 years younger than she was in her 70's. Tell everyone, Dr. Dray! What you teach is proven in the court of human experience!
I’m happy to hear that eye creams are unnecessary! I have mostly used my face cream on my eyes but have been fooled a few times to buy eye creams because I’ve been thinking that face cream is bad for them. I always find it annoying to use many different products so again I’m happy to hear this!
Everyone (most people should, it's quite dated) knows nowadays about alcohol based toners, and of course the hydrating toners are good. And should be used with moisturizer.
Isn’t that common sense? I habe the perfect skincare routine, I have 3 very good moisturizer, retinol (retina, tretinol,) hyaloron serum from la roche possay, and how you use it, is very important! Sandwich your Retinol or your skin will likely be terrible (google retinol destroyed my face), use it once a week, then hyaloron acid and put it after the moisturizer! My skin looks amazing! And dont waste your money
My neighbor asked me the other day what I was doing in my car. Lol, I was putting on my second layer of sunscreen for the day. My face was all white still👻. He said "isn't that a little excessive." I thought about it and ask him "how old he thought I was." He said 40-45. I am going to be 55 in September. I told him this, and said, "so no it isn't excessive." Buy the way I am 5 years older than him and he looks 60. I told him sunscreen is the only way to slow the aging process. Then I reffred him to your channel!!!
That's what I do lol. I put more on hoilday. I always wear a cap, sunglasses, uv gloves. Enjoying the sun but hiding in the shade. My face is covered in white but, I can always double cleanse it off. I look normal and have great skin at night and years to come haha People know you look young even when you covered in white anyway
My dad is a contractor and flat out refuses to use sunscreen. He literally calls himself a professional tanner. My mom is only marginally better. I am pale... like ghost pale. I also have acne, my dad's cure all... go tanning! Makes me want to pull my hair out lol. I try to sneak sunscreen into his skin, but I have only been partially successful. Thankfully I recently roped my mom into being an accomplice. Fingers crossed. Sadly in a weird way, both of them have good skin. I do not understand it. Unless they see ten new wrinkles right after coming home from the beach, I don't think either one will jump on the sunscreen bandwagon. Unfortunately, I am still searching for a sunscreen I actually like. I know I need to use it, I do, but I hate them. The makeup I use does not react well with silicones, which makes things even harder. Open to suggestions lol
Hi Dr. Dray! I'm a GP in germany and i absolutely love listening to your vlogs! Your approach is everything I also stand for. Being clear and honest is the most honourable quality in an MD. Thank you for teaching me so much! 🙂
I’ve spent a small fortune on facial products from cleansers, hydrating lotions to serums and I’ve decided to keep it simple and age exactly how I’m supposed to. Thank you Dr Dray🥰
I am a middle aged guy who has better skin than 95% of the population and I used to work in the cosmetics/chemical industry, so I have some unique prospective. Some of these takes on certain products are very extreme. A good eye product can make a huge difference. The issue is most eye creams are not well formulated. For hydration sake, yes, a face product will add hydration to the skin around your eyes just as well, but a well-formulated eye product can also add other benefits such help reduce (not cure) puffiness, lighten darkness and plump up crow's feet. Also, wipes are not as evil as suggested. I wouldn't use it as main cleansing product but it's perfectly good for after the gym, leaving a long international flight, or otherwise in between cleansing when you can't get to water and cleanser very easily. Not all wipes leave heavy residues or filmy feeling. It's again, a formulation concern. Sadly, the industry is largely women brainstorming how to comes up with new/silly/different ideas to compel other women to buy stuff...and not always about scientific merits. My rule of thumb to not to trust smaller brands. Product performance, side-effects, safety or sustainability and so on are not something a small company can handle well - not financially possible. Whereas large companies have dedicated resources to do large scale research and testing. Do not believe some small companies claiming some magical ingredients because the same ingredients are available to the large companies.
@matildekimmerle6607 I agree, as well. I think her "sentiment" about unnecessary skin care products being geared more towards "marketing" than anything else has a lot of relevance, but there ARE valid exceptions. One is with Eye Creams. I have always moisturized and NEVER has any moisturizer removed my dark circles -- ONLY ONE BRAND OF EYE CREAM THAT I HAVE EVER USED HAS VISIBLY REMOVED BAGS AND DARK CIRCLES -- that is not marketing, that is tangible proof! And I second "wipe usage"; sometimes busy people are unable to always do things the "traditional" way. I wouldn't suggest replacing your regular "wash" routine with wipes, but keeping usage down to a minimum of an inconsistent number of times here and there -- "do what you gotta do", rather than just doing nothing at all is what I say! And lastly: "Oils" -- I absolutely love oils!!! I actually use them on top of my moisturizer as an added layer to "lock in" moisture. I use products on my skin like Retinol and Glycolic Acid (never at the same time, though), that are known to create dryness, so I try to utilize different ways to keep my skin hydrated. Love, love, love my oils! I try to keep the amount of chemicals I use to a minimum so using my natural oils over using even more chemicals wins every time! Plus, I can't afford a lot of "fancy", "upscale" skin products that don't use harsh chemicals; and quite frankly, I don't have the time or desire to do so. KISS: "KEEP IT SO SIMPLE". I listen to and follow a lot of what Dr. Dray says, but with some things I use my own "power of reason" and what I have personally seen work for me over EVERYTHING! I think that is what we should all continue to do. I think that is also what Dr. Dray would WANT us to do. 😊
I switched from my expensive over the top Clinique routine to a minimalistic drugstore product routine and now my face has never looked better!!! It’s amazing the difference ❤️ thanks Dr Dray!
Toner is quite essential in my opinion. It is the 1 thing that calms the skin and the 1st thing I apply after cleansing. Without the toner, it just feels very weird. Maybe ask any Asian girl, if they can live without toner. hahaha... Toner is STEP 1 ~ Many of the other items mentioned are totally discretionary. I find Rose Water very useful in summer as I spray my skin throughout the day.
About 15 years ago, I was having a terrible time with irritation and itching in the feminine area. I was about to lose my mind. It was hard to be in public because all I wanted to do was rub. All I ever used in that area was the soap I showered with. So I started researching and read an article that said no type of cleanser was required for that area of the body. It was hard for me to do, but I quit washing down there and only let clear water run down. The itching and irritation immediately went away and has never come back. And I realized that I am still clean in that area and soap or cleanser is not needed.
Happened to me me last week. I used a vaginal wash for a few days and it became super dry irrita and left a rash with a burning sensation. Ditched it now only rinsing it with water several times a day.
@@TrishasMusic so do I .. the outer portions have sweat glands and sebaceous glands, I guess they should require some sort of soap to clean? I've never had any problems with it though
@@TrishasMusic That is exactly what I do. Some people bring their soaps inside, which is not what you're supposed to do. My great grandma, grandma, mom and me have always just used bar soap (but we don't wash inside the genital area).
I stopped buying tons of makeup! I couldn't go a single day without wearing makeup before I started watching Dr. Dray! Now I wear it occasionally just for fun! But definitely no longer feel like I need to cover up my face. Love my bare skin!
I recently invested in a set of 20 reusable cotton/bamboo rounds to replace the disposable ones I have been using for years. They are fantastic at removing makeup, and they wash up beautifully. They come in a mesh bag that keeps them together in the laundry, and I just toss the bag in with my sheets & towels. They are wonderful! Next up will be replacing my feminine hygiene products with more sustainable versions that create less waste.
Silicone menstrual cups are the best. That's all I've used for 10 years. There's a marketing gimmick about replacing them every 5 years but as long as they aren't damaged you can sterilize them and reuse them for years. There are a ton of options
I'm surprised she's so down on oils. For me, they made a big difference. I pair an oil with a moisturizer - I find it more moisturizing than moisturizer alone. Plus the moisturizer goes on better on top of the oils.
I guess everyone is different, right?! As for the sheet masks... I don't have the patience either, but it's a great pick me up for my skin when it needs something to quench its thirst or a little bit of Plumping.
I love oils such as jojoba oil, rose hip oil. I just wanted to advise that lotion goes on before oil, if putting oil than watery lotion will sit on top of skin.
I recently started tretinoin. Boy did that minimize my purchases of extraneous skincare, because less is more with tret. I was using highly rated products that were minimally effective, at best. I'm glad I made the switch.
Love her clinical honesty! Dr. Dray I love your no nonsense approach to skin care. After suffering through patches of red, itch skin in my eyebrows and above, I listened to one of your videos and threw out my expensive, fragrant moisturizer! I now use CeraVee and I am doing much better!
Vitamin c transformed my skin. I use the powder one form from Clinique. It lightens up my acne scars in one use and after a week they are almost gone. Only one I cannot agree on.
I started getting hormonal acne and dry patches around my eyebrow and nose area. Ever since watching your videos I incorporated good, affordable & fragrance free products into my routine and my skin has improved ever since. I use the Cerave Salicylic Face wash. Follow up with the Cerave PM moisturiser on damp skin and then a SPF50 sunscreen on the face. My skin has never looked so AMAZING and I can’t thank you enough! You are the best Dr. Dray. Have a nice Friday!
I work at Sephora and I love giving out the skincare samples or things that actually help and are recommended! Sometimes I just write the ingredients down for them to look for on their own from binge watching your videos. Now I’m getting food customer reviews lol 💛🙂
I just started watching this woman... and I’m in love lol ... I love how she tells the truth about the skincare industry it’s sooooo true how they sell us so much useless sh*t !! God bless her beautiful soul ❤️❤️❤️
Finally someone called out the lash serum nonsense. I remember stressing out on finding the perfect lash growth formulas and I ended up making the skin around my eyes so sensitive and no difference to my lashes.
I was hoping someone would comment about this, so I could respond. I started using Scorolash serum on my brows and lashes and they've grown quite nicely. My lashes are frickin gorgeous now. I wouldn't have believed it myself had I not tried it
@@weedayna Same here.. it's the one product that I absolutely love and has been such a gamechanger for me. I get comments on my lashes all the time and it's due to good serum.
@@weedaynahad to scroll down quite a bit to find this comment about lash serums. I had been recommended Grande Lash MD lash serum and it had visibly helped me with regular nightly use, but I ran out of it pretty fast. So I went and bought me some plain castor oil and filled up the lash serum tube with that. Now my lashes are doing just as great for a fraction of the cost 😊 no irritation, just have to make sure to apply it nightly!
You change my life after i found you a month ago. Now i am using suncream every day even if is cloudy and my skin is transformed. Thank you so much for all your videos.❤
I have been suing sunscreen every day and reapplying. I have my new sun hat coming this week. I have purchased all new moisturizers. I am paying about a tenth of the price of what I was buying. My face is looking so much better. Thank you Dr. Dray!!
Dr. Dray, is there ANYTHING that can help with familia dark circles? I have severe bluish/purplish color under my eyes. Am I wasting my time, energy and in particular, money?! Thank you!
At last! Someone qualified who talks real sense about skin care. I am in my 60's and always get compliments about my skin... Guess what? I have always kept my skincare routine simple without harsh, useless products, eaten properly, used sunscreen, used moisturiser... Your ideas vindicate my choices. Thanks.
That baby wipes comment is so true - I have two kids and both have amazingly sensitive skin (like me) and switching to washing their bottoms with actual water and soap was the ultimate game changer - the baby wipes were causing rashes!
I think it depends on what you're using them for. If it's just to moisturize, then probably can just use a moisturizer. But some good eye creams can address very specific issues. In my case, dark circles. Most eye creams didn't work but one was a miracle worker. Like literally took 3-4 applications to see major results. But the reason was that it works on the microcirculation issue that can cause dark undereyes...it wouldn't work if it was hereditary or even some other issue... So you really have to figure out the cause before you try a solution.
Cannot live without my eye cream! I don't get why some people say that... It's all opinion though. I have noticed a huge difference in puffiness and darkness with prolonged use of my fave eye cream vs not using it. I really enjoy listening to Dr Dray... However she doesn't take into account the self indulgent aspect of skin care..
I was told right when I started with cleansing and makeup as a teenager that using toner was the most important part of the cleansing regime. I use a non-alcohol toner and I love the feel of my skin after I use it. While my skin is still wet from the toner, I put on my moisturizer. Since following you, I quit using it for awhile but have gone back to it as I love the way it makes my skin feel. Plus, it's cheap, cheap to use, so why not?
Same here! I discovered toner many years ago when they were used after cleansing to remove left over debris. I use alcohol free Thrashers rose toner because I love the scent and toner leaves my skin feeling hydrated and prepped for moisture and makeup. I do notice a difference when I don’t and do use toner. I also use facial rose spray for hydration and it does topically hydrate my skin. She is right that scents are not good for our skin so I may forego the rose scents once I use up my rose scented products.
I've been using mine for years alcohol free, years before i found Dr Dray I did an experiment to see if I could remove it from my routine as it felt like I was paying money for water... Anyway quickly went right back when I realised half of hydrated and comfortable feeling after washing my face was the toner... I think our Alcohol free toners are more like the Korean ones she mentioned and not the ones she doesn't buy.
Tumeric has however been used by Indian people for thousands of years as a skin purifier. Maybe best to keep it in its natural form though. But it's definitely not a new thing.... new to the western world.
I used to use face spray. Felt horrible. I've been using brands you've recommended such as CeraVe, Cetaphil, Coppertone, la Roche posay, vanicream...plus i followed your technique of putting moisturizer when skins still damp...and boy. .what a huge difference. I don't wake up with dry skin anymore and i spend A LOT less.
My skin has never been as beautiful as it has become since I started using facial oil. I was hesitant to try it at first because I have acne-prone skin, but I never even get a breakout anymore. Totally loving the oils!
Rosehip oil, or any facial oil won’t get rid of melisma nor cystic acne scars. They sit on top of the skin and flatten skin cells and stop some water loss.
don't buy any of them either, except for Vitamin C. it has made my skin clearer and brighter. I don't know what your reasons are but for me it has been a winner!
I disagree regarding vitamin c. vitamin c has helped me with my hyperpigmentation, after everything else (even the stuff Dr Dray recommends for hyperpigmentation) has failed. The combination of klairs vitamin c serum with their vitamin e mask has faded my acne scars and hyperpigmentation. It also brightens your skin.
Jessie Kirk : Cereve’ moisturizing lotion for face & body ! Works great ! I will admit the Cereve’ PM night cream is very nice , but I wait til there is a sale !
I use the Cerave hydrating sunscreen on my face and neck all year round. It’s hydrating, so I don’t need moisturizer, doesn’t aggravate my rosacea and actually helps when I have a flare up.
I used for 30 years expensive skincare from any brands, what to say, some good results, when I saw you for the first time, I stop all of them and start to use only products recommended by you, would you believe me Doc, after 1 month my skin changed drastically-no redness, no allergies, became soft and glow, thank u
AMEN! IF ANYTHING SAYS "DETOX" or "DETOXIFYING" it is automatically a scam/ marketing ploy. That includes what goes IN out bodies as well. No detox oils and no detox tea will do what our skin and liver already do!
THANK YOU for saying out loud that bimatoprost changes eye color!! I use Lumigan for glaucoma and it changed my brown eyes green, discolored the skin around my eyes, but made my eyelashes grow. Would rather have broen eyes and not need the med.
My husband and I are in jobs that require hours in the car on a daily basis. For the past few weeks I’ve been ON TOP of making sure we apply sunscreen to exposed skin before we head out the door. (Even if my husband rolls his eyes, he does it so👍🏼) thanks Dr Dray.
I agree with Jeremy. You can put a UV film on the car windows. I think a garage can do it. Just ask around. You might need to buy the UV film yourself. You should also test it to see if it's real UV
I’d like to say that I think you are a wonderful person. For those who can not afford a dermatologist can still access great advice from you through this platform. I love watching your videos! Just wanted to say thanks! 👍🏼
Dr. Dray has a lot of good, honest information about skin care products. It’s so easy to get hooked into what all these influencers are saying about products. I used Latisse for many years with good results, then as I aged I developed an allergic reaction to it. Red circle around eyes, lid irritation.
Agree with most of this except the facial oil. I live in the desert SW and just plain moisturizer is not enough for my skin. My skin improved so much after adding oils to my routine. My skin drinks it up and no more dry patches.
Same. Living in Sweden. And with our cold dry winters I also experience that moisturizer is not enough. Facial oils have done wonders to my skin, I no longer feel stripped in my face after a shower, no longer cracking skin on my forehead and nose etc. It really does work! And different oils really is a big no-no if you're acne prone. Coconut oil does not come near my face cause it breaks me out a lot!
Same. Have dry skin and I suffer the most during winter months. After adding squalane oil after my moisturizer I noticed I no longer have dry patches on my face.
I adore sqalane oil, it soaks right into my very dry skin leaving no oily residue. My skin feels so much more hydrated and has a youthful glow. I use it on my hair too.
Same. I live in Chicago and just a few minutes outside in the winter will give me horrible wind burns. I slather on facial oil before I go out and it significantly reduces the wind burn. Oh and for a double whammy I rub it on my lashes I have noticed an incredible difference in how burnished they are and I don’t lose them as quickly which allows for them to grow longer.
Dr. Dray, you have caused me to think so differently about skin care that my “do not buy” list has gotten quite long. I definitely don’t buy Vit C products and scented products because you and and another YT person (Pampered Wolf) pointed out how irritating those ingredients can be. I used to love Clinique’s 7 day scrub but I just don’t remember to use it most of the time, especially with my current level of mask acne. What I do have a ridiculous amount of in my stock pile is sunscreen. I bought so many of your recommendations when I first discovered this channel that I don’t think I can use them all before they expire.
I have a friend who treated his glaucoma for years with eye drops which have the same active ingredient as Latisse. His lashes became a thick, tangled mess like a bristle brush, and his light brown eyes (he had been a ginger before going gray) are now almost black. Definitively this stuff has a strong effect but not always a beautifying one...
Morning routine : sunscreen, lip balm Night routine : bioderma sensibio to remove the sunscreen, cleanser, moistrizer, adapalene every other day and lip balm 🙌 and i use rose water before the moisturizer as we have hard water and it's refreshing 😁
You have a such great routine. IMHO, it will be better if you adding moisturizer also in your morning routine, because your skin need moisturizer all day long, not only at night time.
Dr. Dray, you have been a true God-Send. I am finally getting my skin in better shape after I tried too many actives at once when the initial lock-down started in March and I was at home so much. That resulted in the worst break-out I have ever experienced in my life on my face (including middle school, LOL). Once I found your channel and I have been trying simpler products and getting on a more "informed" routine about what I was using, I am finally getting my skin on my face back to where it was! I am so grateful, and after this video, I now know to stop using the wipes when I remove my oil cleansing method process! Thank you for your dedication to sharing your wealth of knowledge with your viewers every day. I have learned so much in the last few weeks.
Her video makes me appreciate having a dermatologist. I just recently gotten a derma. I used to have atopic dermatitis and the derma helped me clear it up. So happy for their dedication!
While reading the comments about intimate washes I had a"ding, ding, ding" moment. Since I was a teenager I've been using them when I shower, especially during my period. And for many years I've been dealing with severe itching. I thought it was because of the incontinence pads I use during the day (which probably don't help). But now I realize that the wash is the problem. Feminine wash gone!
It took me a while to get on the Dr Dray train but you’re brutally honest and I like that. Subscribed 👍🏼 And I agree with everything you mentioned in this video.
Real rose water is amazing but you need to be careful and get the right one - no parfumes, no additives, just pure distilled rose flower water. It has really been life changing for my face. I use it as a first step before my HA serum in the AM and PM and I've seen so much less inflamation and irritation. My skin feels moisturized and so well nourished which I havent been able to achieve with any other water-based product (I always include water based sprays/solutions before/after an HA serum so the HA has water to work with).
Yes, I agree. I make my own rose water with one soup bowl of petals from my "Gertrude Jekyll" rose. (Blooms once in May and once in July, so I only have rose water in the summer, lol.) I boil 2 cups of distilled water, pour it over the petals, let sit 1/2 hour. Strain through sterile sieve into sterile bottle. Allow to cool. Store in fridge. Could be just the purity of distilled water on my face without the crap tap water has it, but I find it hydrating.
And I agree with Dr D and you, it's better to lock it down with moisturizer afterwards, if I am just misting it as part of my facial care routine. If I am misting it later in the day, over my morning facial care/mineral sunscreen, I don't bother. I also wash and rinse with it, after letting it get to room temperature.
😂😂 watched another UA-camr's video right after this one and she was talking about a product that costs $135 and is described as "A daytime booster to fortify your skin against the harmful aggressors of the digital age".... all I could think was what would Dr. Dray say about this 😂🤦♀️
Kasie Prejean I know who you’re talking about. And she was probably making an enormous amount of money trying to sell everybody this snake oil. What a bunch of BS! Lol.
She's probably talking about Kathleen lights ... She wasn't trying to sell the serum. She was just reading the box of a serum she got in Boxycharm. Just Fyi.
I trust you a lot. I started watching you about two or three years ago. My Keratosis Pilaris is almost fully gone from my body, and whatever is left it is slowly fading away.
I was just looking for a moisturizer as I was running out. After watching you, I just got some CeraVe moisturizing cream. I had to spend $100 on medication, so it was good to just pay $20 for a moisturizer. Feels good so far.
I absolutely love listening to your knowledge. I am an esthetician and I am expected to sale product the only thing is I feel really bad selling products $60-$200 that I know they can get at cvs or Walmart for a fraction. I don’t even use those products and my skin is great. I have found everything my 40 year old.skin needs at the drugstore or lines like The Inky or the ordinary. So I direct my people there. So now listening to you (my fave dermatologist!) just confirms that I would just be taking advantage of my loyal clients.
I like the fact that Dr. Drey recommends affordable skincare products that deliver results. I also learned that even having a simple skincare routine is more than enough. 😊
Honestly, my skincare routine changed because of your advice! I'm planning to post a video about how I got clear skin on my channel soon, and im soooo excitedddd
All I use these days is sunscreen, a gentle face wash, a basic moisturizer, my differin and Duac . I stopped buying abs using all of the superfluous products, thanks you you and my skin has never looked better. I can actually confidently go foundation- free! As always, you coax me down from the cosmetic ledge when I start to stray. Thank you! Which sunscreen do you have on in this video? Your skin looks radiant!
Clinique 3 step programme is something I used in my mid twenties and it absolutely ruined my, before that point, clear and great skin. I then spent many years healing the damage and trying to correct the hyperpigmentation and scarring from the breakouts it caused all over my cheeks. Horrible stuff!!! I remember going back to the stand in the department store to say it was not agreeing with my face and trying to get a refund, only to be told that it was just part of "the process" of my skin detoxing itself. So, being less educated and clued up on skincare now, I foolishly carried on trying to use it and only stopped when all my cheeks broke out.
You’re super! ♥️ Also, if u wanna resolve the brown tips on the leaves of your plant, I can recommend you move it away from the draft of air that’s running in the room ! Keep them videos coming 🌸
Cerave blue tub is my ride or die cream.i use facial spray the avene Thermal spray as my face overheats and with melasma I have to keep it cool during Texas heat.
I tried lash serum and I ended up getting really bad eye infection. BUT my lashes were so long so it worked but not worth my eye 👁. Even my doctor said to skip it not worth it.
That's a great cream, I prefer the lotion and face lotion as they're more liquid-y and don't have mineral oil as an occlusive. I also suggest to use the mist right before using the cream to lock in all the moisture. I feels better than using the mist/toner afterwards for me and it makes more sense.
The only oil I may have confidence in is coconut oil. My husband is from the Caribbean and his mother used coconut oil on my husband since he was a baby to clean, moisturize, and protect his skin. Plus they eat alot of coconut and cook with it. With that said the coconut oil was handmade on the island from local coconut, no preservatives and all natural. It was used appropriately and not overdone. My husband has the best skin even at 43 and I think it was because of the coconut!
I use DIY rose water, glycerin, and vitamin E serum for my hair and I'm not sure if it really works but it's a definitely nice step before putting any kind of styling product on my hair.
My moisturizer has 1% salicylic acid which is too harsh for my eye area, I use a separate eye cream because it's far more emollient & gentle for that area
Thank you so much for your video. I am new here and I am so glad I found you. I am a physician and I am so appreciative of some of your comments and advise !!! I tell several people to stop feminine washes !!!!!!!! Thank you for clearing up advantages of prebiotics/facial oils/wipes/fad ingredients. Totally commend you for your honest and true advise. Continue the passion for medicine and great care !!!!!! ( Fyi - I'm not one to leave reviews - good or bad but felt one was worth it here )
TBH I don't buy that much makeup anymore. Once you stop wearing it for a while, you get used to the way your face actually looks and you start to like it. Now on a special occasion, I'll put some on, but daily I *might* put on mascara.
This is the difference between an influencer and an actual medical professional who is qualified to give you advice. Influencers will swear up and down that you need those fad ingredients, toners, probiotics, whatever in your routine for the perfect skin with a discount code to boot. Medical professionals will promote the simplest routine possible that actually have scientific evidence backing it.
anyaa d , absolutely! These you tubers with no credentials that gives skin care advice make me insane!
And they push some seriously expensive brands, like La Mer and Tatcha.
That's why we love Dr. GRAY!
Yulia Yuts , absolutely!
This lady deserves a medal of freedom for liberating our brains from marketing crap ❤️
Marketing crap? Please Olga, have a talk with my daughter....
🤣🤣yes!
@@Jess-737 Thanks for letting us know. I sure save so much money listening to her. Imma probably stay with the BHA and AHA from paula bc that is literally the only thing that works
She's the only skin care channel I watch! No nonsense, straight to the point.
She's not always right though.
"I've been sent these products before and I end up using them on my feet."
Absolutely savage, Dr. Dray.

Lol that’s what I do

I feel her 😂 . Anytime I've falled into the trap of buying a scrub I've used it on my heels, anywhere else it was too aggresive and abrasive. 🙁 Now when I feel like I might buy some stuff I don't need because of marketing, I go back to Dr Dray's videos to stop myself.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate dr dray who recommends so many AFFORDABLE skincare options when many people in the skincare industry (esthetician’s, some plastic surgeons, spas, etc) will recommend the most outrageously priced skincare items......
That’s because Dr. Dray is a true science-based professional, not out to make a buck.
Amber Nicole yes, Thank you Dr. Dray for your incredible good comments
G preservatives do not affect negatively the performance of active ingredients
Is vasaline good for your face?
I used to do this and my skin was the best. However I developed sun spots and from then on had to use sun screen. Complete turn of skin. I so wanted to continue to use Vaseline but I was stuck with suns spots and never been able to get rid of them. The more I try, the worse I have damaged my skin trying.
My late grandma passed at the age of 89 with barely any wrinkles and she only used Vaseline.
@@djdissi My sister. Love this. Love you.
Lauren Smith My mom washed my mouth with soap.
I so wish I knew this sooner. Ttc here and “Summer’s eve” was thrown away really quickly after reading how bad it is.
I put toothpaste in my mouth.
Great explanation. Thank you.
We do put tooth paste in our mouths! So what should we use on our labia and vaginas?
Whenever i get carried away with looking at new products, I come back to you and a minimalistic routine becomes appealing to me again. xx
thanks for watching
rachel I do the same, a reality check before I add another step to the routine!
I can’t agree with this more!!!
I would never buy feminine wash too. As I’m male.
Same!!
I love hearing professionals rant about the idiotic marketing related to their industry. It is satisfying to know where marketers are trying to trick me to get my money. Thank you for this informative video!
other 'gurus' would makes dozens of videos on each product of each name brand out there. im relived to know im not missing anything.
Since I found Dr. Dray, I actually saved tons of money on skin care but am having the best skin I've ever had! Thank you!!!
Yes, me too. The $6 Vaseline lotion works wonders with all its parabens lol and I can always afford it.
I am just starting right now to correct all the bad habits I had, and yes it feels good to be part of the journey here, good for you :-)
@@lisabaughn absolutely, good for you :-) this inspires me
I'm a Cosmetic Chemist and I totally agree about the use of eye cream. Totally unnecessary if you use a decent moisturizer.
What about contact lens wearers with sensitive eyes? Can they also use regular moisturizer around eyes, or need special eye cream? Many moisturizers have a note 'do not apply near eye area'
What would be construed as a decent moisturizer 🤔 I can only afford drug store.
Cereve moisturizer...it is great!
Thanks for this information
Exactly. I use Cerave as well. I didn't plan on having everything from the same brand, it just happened. My sunscreen, cleanser, moisturizer and retinol serum are all Cerave. My skin feels great.
dawn potts You sound just like me a year ago! After many years of using skincare products with fragrance, I began to have a reaction to it causing dry, red and itchy skin. I found Dr. Dray's channel and it was like a light bulb went on. I'm CeraVe all the way too! :)
Me the same, since quaratee I ordered in Internet and started use "cheap" brands like The Ordinary and Cerave and my skin looks great 🙏
Because of following Dr. Dray all I use on my face is CeraVe AM, CeraVe PM, and CeraVe facial cleanser. And my bath soap is all unscented now too. I'm 60 years old and my skin looks pretty darn good!

Yup I did these before I had to separate moisturizers and get many types of toners... I removed them all
So very thankful and grateful that I found your channel.
And LIFE is so unpredictable and fleeting. I live each day as if it might be my last...still trying to help others (both family and non humans) when I’m able.
Limited income...it’s hard...with a big human family, a tiny home (I think I mentioned I live alone)...and caring fir 13 feral cats (all tnrd), the raccoons, the opossums, the squirrels, etc... Best part...they all pretty much trust me...and they all get along.

Maybe your neighborn never use facial cream.
You go girl !!! Keep using that sunscreen!
Name a more iconic duo than men and unnecessary commentary.
Like, who asked him?!
Hi Dr.
Agreed! Dr. Dray has made skin care so much more streamlined 🙌🏻 (age 54)🙂
Me too.
Yup - totally agree as to the eye creams - all about the formulations - thanks for your insight!
@matildekimmerle6607
I agree, as well.

Should no soap at all go near that area? I like to lightly wash the groin area with a gentle soap, but I don’t bring the soap inside.
You could always use Dove Unscented Bar soap on the outside area only and you should be good.
No. Just use cleansing oil and then a gentle foaming cleanser. You are basically rubbing your skin and over time causing wrinkles.
Plus the moisturizer goes on better on top of the oils.
exactly!!! My skin is glow with facial oil.
Oils and sheet masks work wonder on my skin
I guess everyone is different, right?! As for the sheet masks... I don't have the patience either, but it's a great pick me up for my skin when it needs something to quench its thirst or a little bit of Plumping.
Dr Gray is light skin but I think oils work well on darker people skin....to each his own....
She said in another video that we can use it but it comes with risks, and I think we don't have to mix it with retinol
Good to know! What about cystic acne scars?
same is about eye creams. they are sooo good for eye skin.

Now my lashes are doing just as great for a fraction of the cost 😊 no irritation, just have to make sure to apply it nightly!

Never knew this about eye creams being unnecessary! This is great news... they are so overpriced anyway! Thank you. :-)
She's not lying.... ✌️🙏🌺💜
Haha true but I always get milia when i just use moisturizer under my eyes
I think it depends on what you're using them for. If it's just to moisturize, then probably can just use a moisturizer. But some good eye creams can address very specific issues. In my case, dark circles. Most eye creams didn't work but one was a miracle worker. Like literally took 3-4 applications to see major results. But the reason was that it works on the microcirculation issue that can cause dark undereyes...it wouldn't work if it was hereditary or even some other issue... So you really have to figure out the cause before you try a solution.
@@hannahyeung4408 You might wanna change moisturizer. Get something more suited for sensitive skin.
Same
Can you recommend a moisturizer with vitamin C?
Is it okay to use facial masks of any kind?
Same here, since I found one that works for my skin without causing breakouts. 😅
"Fad ingredients"- I think this hold true with food too. Great video.
The best advice I learned from dr dray too! 👍
My skin has never been as beautiful as it has become since I started using facial oil. I was hesitant to try it at first because I have acne-prone skin, but I never even get a breakout anymore. Totally loving the oils!
Which oils do you find most helpful? I have melasma as well as cystic acne scars...love to get rid of them!
@@katy61 rosehip is a great oil for the skin. I used it for a while and i loved it.
@@carnystrickland4888 agree, The Ordinary has one for about $6😊
Rosehip oil, or any facial oil won’t get rid of melisma nor cystic acne scars. They sit on top of the skin and flatten skin cells and stop some water loss.
I’m in the same boat as you. Dang melasma
don't buy any of them either, except for Vitamin C. it has made my skin clearer and brighter. I don't know what your reasons are but for me it has been a winner!
Sammmee I see an immediate different
I agree. I personally love good vit. C serum. It helped with my melasma.
Thank you for the reminders Dr Dray. My daughter’s eczema is now under control since I switched to Cerave baby wash and Vanicream 😀
I am going to stop buying a separate facial moisturizer and just use Cerave lotion on my face as well as my body!
Great idea!!
Cerave is too expensive in my country.

Agree. Totally love facial oil! My skin texture has improved and even glows now.

I'm here for the straight talk - preach, please!! I just love your attitude.

So, being less educated and clued up on skincare now, I foolishly carried on trying to use it and only stopped when all my cheeks broke out.
Yeah, they will inform us that is purging process where our skin is detoxing
I really like this program because she honest about so called Beaty products we don’t need them. Just marketing garbage. Thank you like your show.
Dr. Dray is the Queen of Skincare on youtube.
I use alcohol-free toner to refresh my face during a day in hot summer months. I have oily skin and do not wear foundation, so it works for me 👌
Maria C. Agree, love my midday sprays
You’re super! ♥️
Also, if u wanna resolve the brown tips on the leaves of your plant, I can recommend you move it away from the draft of air that’s running in the room !
Keep them videos coming 🌸
Cerave blue tub is my ride or die cream.i use facial spray the avene Thermal spray as my face overheats and with melasma I have to keep it cool during Texas heat.
👍
I tried lash serum and I ended up getting really bad eye infection. BUT my lashes were so long so it worked but not worth my eye 👁. Even my doctor said to skip it not worth it.
That's a great cream, I prefer the lotion and face lotion as they're more liquid-y and don't have mineral oil as an occlusive. I also suggest to use the mist right before using the cream to lock in all the moisture. I feels better than using the mist/toner afterwards for me and it makes more sense.
I like to spray rosewater on my pillow before I go to bed.
Is he by any chance black? Because it might just be his genes working there.
coconut oil can be super pore clogging
I use DIY rose water, glycerin, and vitamin E serum for my hair and I'm not sure if it really works but it's a definitely nice step before putting any kind of styling product on my hair.
Is Dr Dray saving anyone else loads of money? I have since I started viewing her videos 👍🏼❤️
Yes!
She is now!!!
Not at first because I had to dump everything and go buy all new stuff. 😆
My moisturizer has 1% salicylic acid which is too harsh for my eye area, I use a separate eye cream because it's far more emollient & gentle for that area
Well yes, in this case it does make sense to buy a separate cream, I think she also mentions this in the clip.
@@daniak6699 I use eye cream because when I used my face moisturizer on the eye area, it ended up super puffy.
Cerave PM irritates me around the eyes. Which eye cream do you use?
