Have had eczema my whole life and would say that one of the biggest triggers for me besides heat and humidity levels have always been stress and mental health, its so closely connected! Also the short nails tip is awesome, I will often wake up bloody in the morning from scratching so keeping nails short really help ♥️
I suffered with eczema for YEARS. It was the worst while living in a hot and humid climate (Hawaii). I used prescription steroids and scent-free moisturizers, but they didn’t help. I found that keeping cool (A/C) and dry from sweat are what made the biggest difference. Stress also made itching worse, and keeping cool helped me relax much easier. Thank you for the information!
N I also have eczema, but recently I eat more fruit and vegetables. It becomes better. Try eat 4 oranges per day, and see if it works. I pray everyone with eczema will succeed in their lives😊.
Right, sometimes no creams nor meds could help. Just have to wait the season to pass when your body is more comfortable in the best season they like. Everything else seems like just a bandaid
I had atrocious eczema as a kid and young adult. Seriously bad. I gave up sugar and it cleared up within a month. The odd time I thought I was clear to go back eating sugar it would bloom again on my skin. Overactive Candida was the root cause and sugar feeds it. I starved candida and it brought the eczema under control. Twenty years later I still rarely eat sugar but even if I do now it doesn't trigger a breakout. Hope that helps!
This!! Candida overgrowth can cause so many terrible things to happen in the body. Whenever I cut out sugar and eat Whole Foods my outbreaks go away as well. Healthy Gut health is probably the most important factor in getting rid of all disease. Much luck everyone!
Wanted to thank you!!! Your recommendations for Laroche/Posey lotion and Cetaphil bodywash changed everything for me!!!! Eczema under control!!!! No more itching!!!! Sleep through the night!!!!
As someone who has intense allergies and unforgiving eczema, thank you so much for this video. I have gone to dermatologists who have told me eczema 'just happens' and to moisturize. That isn't enough because not any moisturizer will do! Thank you for isolating a few common triggers and providing recommendations. I have this video as a favorite.
everyone i have eczema and the best lotion ive used is curel "wet skin therapy" in a teal bottle seriously try it its so good i use it after i dry off after a shower
@@alyssahayes7140 Watch Dr Dray's videos on how best to apply moisturizer. Apply it while your skin is barely damp, not after you dry it and it will make a world of difference for the better.

I wanted to come back and say that I tried the Aveeno balm (the one in the tub) and it is amazing! It stops the itch right away and leaves a protective barrier feeling on my skin that helps with all the hand washing.
@@bradauto has it worked for you all, I'm looking for my mother trying to find something that may help ,I'm a total noob on this . But has that cream helped significantly signficantly?
@@Mr.SMiLeY1025 I think over the years I tried everything with limited or zero success. Aveeno has been the only thing that not only clears it up but stops it when I see the first signs. I would defo say try it out.
Was dealing with eczema for months around my eyes and mouth, and wasn't sure what was causing it. Sure enough it was my laundry detergent. Switched to one that is NEA approved and my eczema practically disappeared overnight. NEA's product finder on their website is a lifesaver!
Yes... tried many of the ones you mentioned which did help.... but Aveeno eczema baby was the game changer! after 6 years of struggling... finally some relief, repair and long term results (when my skin does react) also using allergy natural products and avoiding or compensating for allergies (dust, cats, molds which get worse in the winter due to dryer air).
@@SG-wq4rm I am currently using aveeno no rinsing needed ... been using it for years.. however I detected a perfume smell this time and so I wonder if they have changed the formulation (because the bottle is also different).... It does work well but when I'm done I want to see if I can find something better and plan on looking for baby eczema cleanser or soap... if that does not work... I may also look at health food store options.
@@SG-wq4rm There is a product line called Avène... they have a milk cleanser which does not need to be washed off just wiped off. Aveeno has a shampoo body wash for babies who have exzema... I may try that and see how my skin does.
Another shower tip for eczema is slather yourself with coconut oil BEFORE hopping in the shower, there are a few studies that show it reduces TEWL and anecdotally I LOVE it!
triggers are: Heat Dry skin Dry climate Fragrances Tips and tricks: 1. Avoid scratching and rubbing 2. Keep nails short 3. Stick to gentle detergents and skip fabric softner and fragrances 4. Wear clothes that allow you to breathe (best material 100% cotton) 5. If you live in a dry climate invest in a humidifier (make sure to keep it clean) 6.Take short showers (best to shower in lukewarm water) 7. Keep cool during exercise/lightweight clothing not tight. Also, try to keep a mist spray to help cool you down. 8. Use an Non Sedating Antimistime about an hour or two before exercise 9. Moisturize right out the shower! Skincare Tips: 1. Use fragrance free products 2. Don't be afraid to wear sunscreen. If you don't know which one to choose select the ones containing zinc or titanium 3. Look for seals on the container with National Eczema Association Best body washes 1. Cetaphil Pro RestoraDerm Soothing Wash 2. Avene XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil (Go for body washes that are really creamy or oily) Lightweight moisturizers 1. PLEASE TRY THIS. I was suffering from severe eczema and tried everything. Then I completely changed my diet. I started intermittent fasting, eating mostly only once a day and I did carnivore diet. It removed all my eczema and I now live my life normally without the hell of eczema. During summers and more forgiving weather I can chill with the diet more but I still try to stay away from carbs and not to eat many times during the day. Carnivore diet and fasting has done absolute wonders for me, not only ridding me of my eczema but also increased my health in several other ways. DO TRY THIS and give it some time, but my results started showing in a few weeks. I don't strictly follow my diet anymore and can sometimes get a Lil flare up cuz of it but I now know how to get rid of it and it is nooothing compared to how it used to be. Please please give this a shot, I believe this is the way to get rid of your eczema as permanently as possible ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@fubarlife7776 yes, eczema comes out on me with stress. Applying Band-Aid brand band-aids that have Neosporin (yellow box) before I go to bed help me tremendously by calming it down and heals most openings so that I can function the next day. I believe that the Band-Aid brand was once manufactured in the US and the band-aids were much better. Now, they are thinner and the adhesive doesn’t stick on as well. They probably reduced the amount of Neosporin to the gauze area too. The price hasn’t lowered! But I’ve been using them for a long time and the quality has gone down twice. I’ve tried just using the Neosporin cream but it doesn’t work as well.
Why not try the AIP Diet ? You may have only one or two food proteins triggering your eczema. With the Carnivore Diet you probably removed more foods than necessary. I figured out my food triggers by using the process of elimination. The foods that you eat the most are usually the ones triggering your problems. I have a problem with Dairy products and the Corn Protein (High Fructose Corn Syrup , Corn Starch , etc.). By restricting these foods and drinking Nettles tea I got rid of my eczema problem.
I used to have terrible excema and as you say it is an inflammation response. I gave up two of the high inflamation foods ie, all grains and all dairy. I do not suffer from excema anymore. Please read more on this topic, all books by Dr Steven Gundry one called The Plant Paradox where he explains all the inflammitory foods and how they damage the body.
I am thrilled to have found your channel and look forward to learning worthwhile information about skincare! Just wanted to share my experience with my one and only flare-up of eczema at the age of 58. It was intense and scary, but I got it under control, by the grace of God. What stopped my eczema from itching and calmed the inflammation was MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) powder. I made a solution of maybe a couple of grams of MSM in a little water and dabbed it on the inflamed and itchy areas. I also took the recommended dosage internally. I had broken my skin barrier by over-scrubbing. The itching would be intolerable, but after applying MSM solution, it would stop within seconds/minutes. I also used a cream with MSM and tamanu oil. Within a few weeks of this regimen (and no scrubbing), my skin barrier was restored, and the eczema has effectively disappeared for over a year. Now, if I feel even a twinge of it, I hit it with the MSM and it doesn't progress. With regard to shea butter and products containing it, I don't feel good about it because I once bought straight shea butter and it smelled rancid as hell. From what I understand there are different grades of shea butter, and unless it's the Grade A (or triple-A, can't remember), it's going to go rancid quicker. Since I don't know what grade is used in these products that have it, I would rather avoid them. FYI: "crepey" is pronounced "CRAY-pee" (rhymes with "crazy.")
I just enjoy Dr. Shereen 's content!!.. if she was a teacher I just couldn't wait the next day to go to her class!!!.. she just makes skincare easy and fun to understand!!!
I love the Aveeno eczema body cream even though I don't have eczema. I put a light layer all over my body when I am damp from the shower. My skin is more hydrated, softer, and looking better than ever!
I've suffered from eczema all my life. Sometime it goes away for a year or few months. Folate helped but at some point stopped working. I've used so many things these past month even tumeric I honestly know not what else to to or use. Gets worse when I'm stressed . Thank you so much
For completely curing, it needs to be healed from within and not on outside. Skin only is showing reaction from things going wrong inside. I recommend regular yoga and especially Pranayama practice, like Kapalbhati and anulom vilom. This fixes the body internally.
I haven't found how to stop getting eczema, but I have found that using a brush with bristles not to stiff, allows me to gently brush the eczema when it is driving me insane with itch, which rubs off the dead skin which seems to be the reason for the itch. Then I take a cool wet washcloth and gently wash the eczema, then apply organic coconut oil or sunflower oil, then apply a very light application of Vaseline on top of that to keep it moist as long as possible. This keeps me from breaking open the skin by scratching with my fingernails which could cause infection. And, of course, I keep my fingernails short. This just makes the eczema more comfortable, it does not get rid of it. I think diet & stress are really important factors in eliminating eczema.
La Roche Posay Toleriane double Repair UV is the ONLY sunscreen that does not cause my eczema to flair up. Other brands would cause burning, redness and welts as well as tiny bumps around my eyes and mouth. I have been using the Toleriane everyday since Jan/Feb. It does burn the eyeball, but the skin around my eye is fine. It took years to find the right one and I am so happy. It has made a huge difference in my skin.
Thank you for this video. Heat is definitely my number one trigger. Meaning the start of summer, I always have to go get shots after my first summer outing. Second is animal allergies. Third is fragrance. Especially if it touches me anywhere.
I love all of your videos! I have truly suffered with at times dehabilitating ezcema my entire life. Honestly, suffered some really hard times and I will also say some people can be really rude about it in a way that I find they never would about acne. Flat out ask what is wrong etc. And the itch! When I am in flare, it feels like I am burning from the inside. And don't even get me started on people's "advice"-yes, yes, yes I have tried giving up dairy and gluten, the two things people love to blame the world on. Absolutely no difference. And I can be eating both and have perfect skin at times. It is somewhat for me related to hormones. Thanks again!
@@kunikagosain9733 when it is intolerable, I have to pull out the big guns, aka really strong steroid cream which I do as little as I can. Otherwise, Protopic as a preventative measure. Expensive, but does really work before it gets to a crisis point. I swear by Aveeno oatmeal bath sachets, Kiehl's ultra facial cream followed by a thin layer of vaseline. Keep my nails super short so I minimize night time scratching damage. I hear you, it is AWFUL. I hope some of this helps!
Thank you for your wealth of knowledge as always. It’s like a dermatologist appointment every Saturday morning with the best one and it’s free. Thank you again
I got rid of my 15 years + eczema after doing a keto diet. Now, I'm not saying the diet itself did it. I'm not sure if it was staying away from carbs (sugar) and/or not eating bread (gluten). I would think it was the latter. When I was doing the keto diet I noticed that when using my prescribed cream that it was getting rid of my eczema at a much faster rate, and it never returned! A bonus is I realized that my IBS symptoms also disappeared at about the 6 week mark. I've always heard that eczema is mainly due to a gut issue and this seemed true for me. One thing also that I noticed disappeared is in general very dry skin especially on my shin area (between my knees and ankles). I would put tons of lotions but once it wore off my skin would be white. That disappeared as well. I'm really convinced that the main culprit was gluten which sucks because I love bread.
Dr! Whatever you were doing to record your videos before was already excellent. Honestly, I like your video quality better from before. Less is More. Your sharing of knowledge is more than enough! You're doing amazing Dr!
My mother a nurse and worked for an allergist who said that eczema is a food allergy. Most people are allergic to dairy, eggs and fish. My son had reactions to tomatoes. Heat and stress can trigger as well but mostly it’s food. We control my sons with his diet and treat break outs with allergy meds and raw African shave butter.
My boyfriend needed this video so thank you!! His skin has been so inflamed and I had a feeling it was a broken skin barrier. He has been using horrible bodywash and never moisturized after a shower so I went out and bought him the Aveeno cream. So far so good. Now he can take it further. I learned from you about broken skin barriers a while ago so I felt so smart sharing my knowledge!! Thank you again💜💜
I haven't had eczema in so long I genuinely forgot I used to have it. I'm 24 now. I had it when I was 7 years old. It's really depressing becuase I feel hopeless. This video really gives me hope. I hope I can get it under control.

Nails, if you get acrylic nails, they are blunter and don't scratch well. So if you don't want them short (and can tolerate acrylic nails since you might not be able to) acrylics can help you scratch less.
I live in a tropical country. Once we went to Japan during winter in 2018, I had eczema on my face ever since. Every time my dermatologists give me treatments, it goes away, then comes right back after I stop using the treatments. I’ll try some of these, thank you.

Dr Idriss, I have eczema on the inside of my elbows and after watching your video I bought Bioderma Atoderm cream. What a spectacular change! My eczema has diminished considerably in three days after using it twice a day. I still need to have a biopsy to find out where it comes from. Thank you so much!!!
Eczema is a healing phase of the stress of separation (father passed away, breaking up with a lover, being separated from family) in a climate where you feel you lost integrity in the eye of your close one (for instance your lover projects something on you which is not true meanwhile you had your best intentions toward them.) It’s caused by that specific pattern of stress.
Wow, thank you. I am just now in the heat of dealing with this . Never had it before. It sucks! Thanks for sharing, and amazing how our heath is connected to our emotions.
I learned about the Cetaphil Restoraderm line in one of your previous videos and it has been a game changer for my skin! I use both the body wash and the moisturizer. Now I’m gonna try adding in the Aquaphor spray. My biggest eczema problem is my hands, which just get worse with all the hand washing necessary every day.
My hands are constantly broken out! It’s honestly debilitating. Docs just keep giving me steroids and it is only a short term fix. I’ve tried so many products but I’ll try these suggestions and see

@@eljofrva I developed it on my hands last year. Had on inside of elbows as child for a couple years and it disappeared. Decades later it’s on my hands and it’s Awful! I seen a dermatologist for the whole 15 min he allowed after waiting 3 mos. I don’t need stronger steroids, in fact I think they are too harsh. After reading they can cause skin cancer I’m reluctant to use. The other choice is UV therapy I’d have to travel twice a week for 8 weeks quite a ways away and that can also cause skin cancer. The creams I were given say not to put on broken skin-Really!!! Tell me who doesn’t have cracked and broken skin with eczema Especially on their hands!!?? Dear Dr.Sherene, I’ve had eczema since a toddler. The only thing that keeps my eczema in check. Used to have eczema behind ears, front of neck, inside of elbows, back side of knees. The only way to keep eczema is using , and have a water softener. The only way I’ve kept this in check. If I wash my hands away from home during the day, eczema will come back lightly on top of fingers, and just a very little ointment, and it’s gone. I agree with your recommendations, but if anyone starts using a water softener, I promise you that the eczema will be gone within 30 days or less. You’ll be able to live a normal life, and not scratching all the time until you’re releasing liquid from your breakout areas. The water softener works by eliminating the hardness minerals in the water, that mix with hardness minerals, and sticks to your skin no matter how long you rinse in the shower. I’m 63 , and have been using a water softener since I was 20. Water softeners are beneficial to the entire household, because you use less cleaning products, soap and shampoo. The soft water feels slippery because it’s soft, and the hardness has been removed by the water softener. I use a little moisturizer on my face, and hands, and that’s it. You can purchase water softeners in Lowes, HomeDepot. Cheers. Russ P.
Last winter I gave myself 3 cellulitis infections and had no idea why they were happening. Multiple urgent care visits. No answers, just antibiotics. My son has had eczema ever since he was a baby. It was manageable when he was younger but now that he is 15 years old, I can no longer manage it for him. He has this vicious cycle of scratching, breaking skin etc. We tried so many lotions and every time it burns his scratches and he no longer wants to put anything on his eczema site until I bought Bepanthen.watching this video. OMG, it does not burn him so he is more willing to put it on. We just started few days ago but I am so hopeful! Thank you so much for sharing these products!!! Thank you!
There is nothing better than Vaseline. It does not hurt, it soothes, even in open wounds, it is almost like an antibiotic in that it helps to prevent infection. Also, it is far cheaper than the other products that aren't even half as good. The only thing to remember is to apply it thinly. People try using it like a lotion, applying a big amount, you don't use Vaseline that way, only spread it thinly on the skin. Sometimes I use organic coconut oil or sunflower oil first which the skin absorbs, then apply the Vaseline on after that because it thins it out nicely & keeps the skin moist a lot longer.
@@virginiaalt1245I applied vaseline on dyshidrotic eczema at night and it was no use. Then I applied olive oil and itchiness was gone within 15 minutes. I checked in the morning and blisters had dried up. One application was good for a week.
❓Eczema on armpits… pro-athlete, sweat often… considering all of the triggers you mentioned, thank you. 1) Recommended antiperspirant, & heard most effective to apply at bedtime? 2) Apply lotion first after clean pits, then antiperspirant? 3) Ok to apply lotion throughout the day after first sign of itch, no harm in how frequent? Thank you!
I would add to these the remedy that has made the biggest difference to my 44+ years of eczema other than steroid creams (effective but not sustainable on a consistent basis). Soaking my skin in very salted water (dead sea salts) for ten minutes daily, ideally. This has been a game changer for itching and tampering flare-ups. I'm pro-dermatologist guidance 100% and yet over all these years none have suggested this and it has made the most positive impact.

One of the reasons is damage to the skin flora. I.e, changes in the skin microbiome due to maybe PH change etc, which is why some organisms turn into dangerous yeasts in case of eczema. It is also true that changes in gut flora affect the skin too. In this case, we need to fix the skin pores and calm down the microbes and add more acidic PH. And I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis. And being a researcher, found the above valuable information.
New subscriber here 🙋🏽♀️ I suffer from chronic atopic dermatitis, I got off the steroid creams about 3-4 years ago and am currently going through something that I didn’t possibly think could be worse… Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) I’ve been dealing with it for the last 3 years and have lost a lot - mentally, physically, and emotionally because of it. Thank you so much for this video!! I would love to see more of them, I don’t know if the product recommendations change depending on the severity of eczema but if they do, I would absolutely love (and greatly appreciate) one for those of us who suffer from severe atopic dermatitis. Again, thank you so much for this video and the work you put into your channel!!
Hi! I have been having a journey with the with drawls as well but I got some great advice from my family doctor. She told me to use hydrocortisone 1% over the counter (lowest dose you can have) and to use it with VERY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION. 2 times daily, for two week. You can try it for yourself if you would like. I was told that if people don't follow the steps correctly and under apply their eczema comes back much mor I was hesitant to use steroid cream again but I made sure I had optimism (stress will affect it) and make sure you don't get too sweaty and stay hydrated (BUT DONT OVER HYDRATE OR IT WILL CAUSE IT TO BE OVERLY WET AND CAUSE ITCHINESS). I have some patches that still flare up a bit but it seems to get under control after using aveenos restorative skin therapy helped me sooth the itch. The most important part is to NOT ITCH. You might need to go back to the 1% cream from time to time but it get alot better and much more under control. As much as you can will yourself to resist. Also look into elimination diets. I wish you all good luck! :)
From no where I developed atopic dermatitis so is not just what you put in your skin and your environment but what's going on inside, I stop eating, gluten, wheat, grains, and sugar, I avoid chocolate and diary at all cost and my skin is so happy, the moment I get back to eating wheat, grains or chocolate I can get a flare up, also I make sure to do lots of liver Castor oil packs, work on my kidneys as that is a problem and make sure I go to the bathroom daily, for cream Welleda baby Deena white mellow calm my skin and stop the itchy burning feeling, when I get a flare up I take Quercetin daily, and having hot water with apple cider vinegar do also help so I drink it daily, (with a straw),
Thank you! I always had dry skin but I developed eczema from too much hand washing in the pandemic. My hand hasn't fully recovered yet. I'll try these products
Weleda Derma line's products are fragrance free with the body lotion being approved by the national eczema association for those who are curious about trying Weleda but want to avoid fragrance.
Thank you for this!!! I live in high altitude in very dry Colorado. Never had any problems (except very dry skin) until probably 10 or so years ago (I am 79) when I developed eczema. It started on my hands. Later on my legs and one foot. I got rid of it with tapping (yes, it worked!). But after a lot of stress the eczema came back about two years ago and I have been struggling with it ever since. I've tried tons of creams, supplements, soaks, blah blah blah. Only two products worked well, calmed the skin and actually were healing it. When I ran out, I found that neither are available anymore. I have to wrap my foot in plastic wrap in order just to walk, the pain is so bad. That's the only thing that has helped my foot. My leg looks like it has a third degree burn. Now it is back on my eyes again. So I'll go shopping AGAIN and try of the few things that you have advised. I'm SO ready to get rid of it!!! Here's hoping and praying!
Also your videos are one of the best part of my Saturday’s. I’ve learned so much. Thx you for sharing all your knowledge in a non overwhelming way. ✨❤️✨
A video on fragrance free shampoo and hair products would be very useful. I have eczema around my ears and in my eyebrows, and also have a very dry itchy scalp. I live in the UK
Hello everyone. My sister recommended this channel, because I have asthma, several allergies and have been dealing with atopic skin forever. I find that dry climate, sun, wind, hot bath/shower, poliester/sintetic fabric, ureia cosmetic, non-baume emollient moisturizers, fabric softener, certain detergent brands and food that I am intolerant to get my skin to react. Sometimes I don't even know what I reacted to, it just happens. I live in Mozambique and buying cosmetics for this thpe of skin is a challenge. I used to use ATOPIC cream which was discontinued. Then I tried a lot till I found A-DERMA baume emollient which works wonders. I liked the suggestion of La Roche Posay because it feels moist and less greasy than A-derma, so for the face could be better. I have only come across it now, so no opinion yet, but sister says wonders of it. My body skin needs the greasy, but my face not so much. Thank you for all the tips, I am sure most of us already learnt some of them the hard way. Will try to find tips for face care, since grease is not the best, but the skin feels sensitive and prone to inflammation at any point
I’ve recently been watching your videos after wanting to start taking a proper approach to my facial skincare. Been living with chronic eczema since I was little, 19 now, and it’s especially been getting worse in Singapore with the weather. I usually just use moisturiser and steroidal cream. I realise that water is also very important😂 Thank you for this video!✨
I’m a doctor and from the north haha. Just a little tip, try to slowly stop using topical steroid. It’s a hassle but find a moisturiser that works for you. Because yes topical steroid relives the eczema fast and from flaring up, but in the long run once you stopped using it you’ll experience steroidal withdrawal. You can give Suu Balm a try and bonus because it’s formulated by our own National Skin Centre. Hope it helps and happy Sunday
OMG HIIII I’m from SG too. I’m 13 now and during and after my End of Years, my eczema has broken out sm that I can’t function if I don’t have a bottle of moisturiser near me. I’ve used steroid creams before but after using them, my symptoms become worse than ever… Well Gl to u hope ur skin gets better soon!
For me, moving to Singapore triggered eyelid eczema and rosacea. I also got random hives over my trunk and neck. I never experienced anything like that before. Eventually I migrated to another country and I cannot tell you the difference it has made for me. Nevertheless, the rosacea flares are not entirely over....but it is way better than before. The humid weather in Singapore is no joke and the cold-heat differences between outdoor and AC environments in buildings are also hard to handle. I hope you find a good derm who can help you in the long term @John.
Frankincense (cartieri or serrata )oil used directly on the skin will kill the itch + its fantastic for the skin. It's a great antinflammatory, & reduces swelling & redness quite a bit. I use it AM/PM & sometimes in-between. CITRIC ACID is a major trigger in my skincare products. Even when it's the last item in the ingredient deck. My skin loves the KIRKS nourishing cleanser (from healthfood store) it's gentle & not drying. My facewash is LaRoche Posay Toleriane cleanser- the blue bottle is actually more hydrating than the cleansing milk but the milky one is more calming. I have normal/dry skin with dermatitis off/on. I find that a 30% Glycolic/Lactic acid peel done weekly, overrides & nearly eliminates my dermatitis! Hope this helps someone. My skin does better with NON-US made products. COSRX (Korea) has lovely gentle yet effective products
Dermatologists often give a list of suggestions on how to bathe, what to avoid and which moisturizing products to use but they don't address the issue when the issue is EVERYTHING MAKES ME BREAK OUT! I haven't used any moisturizer on my skin in years, no matter the weather, because it all breaks me out. Vaseline is the worst of them all. What do I do?
i ended up in agony with blepharitis in my eyes due to eczema. It was unbearable & got worse when i closed my eyes, i was actually screaming. i managed to put up with it as i was using oils to moisturise & taking collagen, but i ended up in hospital over Xmas. a specialist gave me drops to use & i am much better now. I have had pdo threads in my face, especially the eyes because i looked like hag!! it was so crusty! sorry to waffle, bottom line use oils like vitamin e, apricot kernel oil, again oil & get prescription eye drops. i wish there were facial products to try, thats the worst & most sensitive place to have it. could have potentially lost my eye health so please dont put up with it, get help!! thanks Doctor Idriss for your great advice!!! new sub, wish id found you sooner!! 🙏⭐⭐
I have itchy and irritated eye lids. They become very flaky with any make-up which I am now avoiding. What products are best to treat this condition? Thank you!
The French brand SVR has products for itchy irritated eyelids. I’ve had success with amla makeup and for some reason Clinique moister gel does helps my eyelids be more resilient during allergy season.
Lipikar is good, but I prefer Aqualan to use on my AD-affected hands instead. I just make sure to apply it within 1-3 minutes after washing hands so that it sort of locks the water in, before my skin dries out completely.😅 Bepanten mentioned in the video is great too. It heals wounds and cracks quick, since it has B5
I just have to say, that not washing my face in the morning, has helped so much with my eczema. Also, rinsing your face longer, after double cleansing, has been a gamechanger. The days I do just this, I don't have any flare ups. La Roshay balm is amazing. I put just enough, as I notice when I over moisturize, I flare up. Just a heads up, I have dry to combination skin. Thank you Dr 🥺❤
I don't understand why eczema is treated as a skin condition by dermatologists. Its an autoimmune disorder. Can you explain what triggers the immune system to be so reactive?
@Markuss Hey Markuss. I've seen your explanation before and I think you are right. What I still fail to understand is how one day my body decides it's no longer going to eliminate acidic foods. (without changing the diet). I've ran multiple blood and microbiome tests and everything seems to be alright.
Eczema behaves like an auto immune disease but it’s not. Also there is so far no actually explanation for it, Im guessing when you say eczema you mean atopic dermatitis right? Because eczema isnt a skin condition it actually is the name for several skin conditions.
Love how you present information (flickering lights and all 🙂), but it would be helpful if you could either leave the products in front of the camera a little bit longer or show them before you start talking about them and then once again right after you finish because sometimes I’m not really paying attention until I hear what you have to say about the product.
Thank you!! The La Roche Posay Cicaplast SPRAY is also an absolute savior! It’s the only thing that calms me on itching crisis when my skin is super inflammed and cut-opened! Bepanthen on top when it’s dry 👌👌
I just discovered Cica, and wow, is it soothing! I also find that taking a super soft baby washcloth and dousing it with Aloe vera gel (kept in the fridge) and using it as a plaster for awhile helps too. Best wishes!
thank you for sharing this, I suffered acne + eczema for years. Definitely will try out the product you recommend. Look forward for more content like this.
I have dealt with it my entire life, as do my children. Luckily my Mother was on top of it and it's always been dealt with properly....and I have done the same with my kiddos.
No joke. I never had eczema until I got the flu shot. The girl who gave me the needle didn't poke it into the muscle. I hardly felt it and no symptoms except for a rash on my face. Went to the same pharmacist who gave me cerave and over the counter cortsoid. Made the ezcema even worse. I was almost crying. I then bought Cetaphil and applied it like it was a layer of frosting on a cake. Finally worked and has almost cleared up the dry skin.
I have dyshidrotic eczema and my doc prescribed me a topical steroid cream. It's a miraculous cream tbh. Every time I get those itchy bumps, I'd apply the cream and it takes only a day or two heal the eczema. Such a lifesaver!
Dr. Idriss... you are such an amazing dermatologist! Literally THE BEST! I just wish I lived in NYC, so I could visit your office often. 💗 I'd love to hear your thoughts on skincare tips and treatments for post-inflammatory erythema on the cheeks. 🙏
Would really love a video on Psoriasis! I have it on my scalp and hairline and it has gotten worse lately..Loving the tips and more global product recs (la roche-posay, avène, bioderma), as I live in Scandinavia, and don't always have access to the more 'local' american brands sometimes mentioned. I'm a new follower, and have been binging your videos lately, and learned so much
Hi! I would highly recommend Xamiol Gel by LEO Pharma. I use it for my scalp and areas in my face that has psoriasis and it works like a charm. It takes effect by the next day or two if you are to use it once a day.
@@fyvoin6964 Hi! So far I haven't experienced any side effects and this is the only med that works on my psoriasis spots on my face and scalp. Maybe it works diff to others. I stop applying it once the psoriasis area is gone from my face.
Thank you Dr. Idriss this is good information. Your recommendations have helped my skin immensely! Would you do a follow-up dive into gluten free skincare products for sensitive/acne prone skin? It's not for fad but necessity. The Aveeno oat products are effective, but off limits to the celiac sufferers of the world where all gluten not just gliadin are avoided. Thank you!
I am rarely spared a day without eczema. You, Dr. Idriss, have given me new hope for relief. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Also, your video is a pleasure to watch, so loaded with specifics!
Having cold(er) showers can actually lift your mood btw. Also highly recommend the Uriage thermal spray, and for sunscreen - Garnier has really nice ones, also for sensitive skin.
I have excema on my eyelids too. My dermatologist gave me a Rx cortisone cream and told me to put Vaseline on top of that. Also told me to stay away from smoke - campfires, cigarettes, wood burning stoves. Warned that nail polish could trigger an outbreak too. I’ll try the La Roche path instead of cortisone. Thanks for the info.
I had eczema on my eyelids and now I use Dermal Therapy Face&Eyelid eczema cream. It's an Australian brand with similar ingredients with Aveeno baby eczema cream. It has higher colloidal oatmeal percentage than Aveeno. Totally demolish the itch and help me rest. On worse days I put Vaseline petroleum jelly over it, slug it. It really helps. Now my eyelids are pretty much under control 😅
Have had eczema my whole life and would say that one of the biggest triggers for me besides heat and humidity levels have always been stress and mental health, its so closely connected! Also the short nails tip is awesome, I will often wake up bloody in the morning from scratching so keeping nails short really help ♥️
Same here. It took me years to figure out that stress is a trigger for me. Stay safe in this weather

I also thought so, but when itch come, still scratch with my "best"....
Hmm, I think I will have to cut out sugar and see what happens. Thanks for sharing.
Right diet only can reverse skin problem. I reversed my skin cronic disease within three month by diet.
If you do eat sugar try to take some either garlic tablets or apple cider vinegar to counteract the yeast
This!! Candida overgrowth can cause so many terrible things to happen in the body. Whenever I cut out sugar and eat Whole Foods my outbreaks go away as well. Healthy Gut health is probably the most important factor in getting rid of all disease. Much luck everyone!

Yep, she said nothing about nutrition!
1000% agreed‼️
I wish it could be permanently gotten rid of, however regardless of my diet if I am under excessive stress it comes back immediately.

In which part you was introduced eczema for the first time??
Dear Dr. Idriss your set-up was amazing before. Love the summer colors. And just the chatty, yet informative nature of your channel.

I tried Carnivore diet for 2 weeks. Brought down my sugar level and eczema. I try to stay away from Sugar, which helps with the inflammation

Eczema is a healing phase of the stress of separation (father passed away, breaking up with a lover, being separated from family) in a climate where you feel you lost integrity in the eye of your close one (for instance your lover projects something on you which is not true meanwhile you had your best intentions toward them.) Dear Dr.Sherene,
I’ve had eczema since a toddler.
Cheers.

Sadly I’ve started to react to lipsticks and glosses and most lip balms 😭 I currently tolerate Bondi Sands lip balm spf 50, so I’m hoping and praying I’ll keep tolerating it throughout the summer! Got to protect that smile 💋
Castor oil best lip balm ever
I was told that Vaseline and mineral oil are both terrible for skin. 🤷🏻♀️ enjoying your content, thanks!
I’ve heard that, too, but I rarely see anything that mentions it.
Thank you!
Go grains and gluten free, its coming from the gut. No processed food. Meat, veg and water for a few months. No soaps and chemicals
Can you recommend any specific brands?
Try add this vitamin D3 with K2 5000, Omega 3 fish oil , vitamin c 1000 and zinc 50mg.
I have severe eczema, it completely covers my limbs, and I live in Arizona 😅 so I can’t wait to try these out!
If I remember, I will update if there’s any changes ❤
Thank you for the advice! I’ve been suffering for years and finally know why! Topic suggestions which no one is talking about since it’s kind of gross but lot of people need help with… how about fungal nails? A lot of misinformation floating around and I’m not sure what is true? Thanks!
The content of the video is more important than the quality of the video. 👍 XOXO Love you!
Queen we need a full video on seborrheic dermatitis 🙏🙏🙏 So many people have it and it's just so freaking difficult to treat
Fingers crossed for some new insight!!! It is a NIGHTMARE
Yes please🙏🙏
Me too ✋️
I agree. Been suffering from SD for years now and it can really affect one's self-esteem T_T
@@aikalee6149 I become a shut-in when my skin is affected, The itching is so maddening. Telling us not to scratch is like telling someone who is dying of thirst not to drink water. I have recently been put on Acitretin, hopeful for the first time.
My tip number 1 is catalog what you eat. Eczema breakouts with inflamation are probly coming from the gut.
THANK YOU so much, I’ve been waiting to see a video by you on eczema! I’ve had it on my fingertips for over a year and it really disrupts regular life specially as a mom. I’m excited to incorporate these tips ♥️🙌🏻

I’m allergic to cobalt and nickel. Skin dermatitis and eczema on hand palm and side of foot. Just began at 63 years. I have sensitive skin and use fragrance free products. I do believe stress contributes to flare ups. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you so much for talking Eczema!!!! OMG I think you heard my comments 🤣 I had my first onset of eczema this year!!!! & My son has it pretty intense too. He can’t even be submerged in much water for long times or his feet and hands burn 😫 he’s only 3. It’s so hard for me. I’ve been wearing lots of tight clothes and my nipples had a break out, pits and under my knees. It’s a nightmare that wakes me at like 3am in an itching burning situation. Ugh !!! Switching detergent.
Aveeno itch relief with calamine, really stops the itch
Again, thank you so much for this video and the work you put into your channel!!
hold on there my fellow tsw warrior, we'll heal
I'm a TSW warrior too...be brave it's such a hell :'( I'm living through RSS and TSW since 2 years with really severe tsw
Thank you for the recap! ❤
I literally have terrible eczema outbreaks for the first time in my life due to Accutane and was just wondering today how to deal with it 😍
A video on fragrance free shampoo and hair products would be very useful. I have eczema around my ears and in my eyebrows, and also have a very dry itchy scalp. I live in the UK
I have eczema on eyelids. Could you find a solution for your condition??
Please make more content on eczema, especially 👉"atopic dermatitis"👈, thank you!!!
This was extremely helpful and useful. Thank you so much for the recommendations! I also just love you as a person :) you're so lovely
I’ve recently been watching your videos after wanting to start taking a proper approach to my facial skincare.
Been living with chronic eczema since I was little, 19 now, and it’s especially been getting worse in Singapore with the weather.
I usually just use moisturiser and steroidal cream.
I realise that water is also very important😂
Thank you for this video!✨
I’m a doctor and from the north haha. Just a little tip, try to slowly stop using topical steroid. It’s a hassle but find a moisturiser that works for you. Because yes topical steroid relives the eczema fast and from flaring up, but in the long run once you stopped using it you’ll experience steroidal withdrawal. You can give Suu Balm a try and bonus because it’s formulated by our own National Skin Centre. Hope it helps and happy Sunday
@@flugoaway3398 Thanks for the tip!☺️☺️
I’m from the north-east and aspiring to be a paediatrician🤞🏻!

@@John-hs8mk also, steroids are not good in the long run. I just got to know that, unfortunately.
Olive oil, coconut oil.
i ended up in agony with blepharitis in my eyes due to eczema.
Minimizing all products, allergy eye drops occasionally, no make up, no cleanser. I guess it’s about building up your skin and eye microbiome again.
Lipikar is good, but I prefer Aqualan to use on my AD-affected hands instead. I just make sure to apply it within 1-3 minutes after washing hands so that it sort of locks the water in, before my skin dries out completely.😅
Bepanten mentioned in the video is great too. It heals wounds and cracks quick, since it has B5
Thank you Dr. Idriss! Please more content on this topic. We appreciate you💜🌼🌸
I just have to say, that not washing my face in the morning, has helped so much with my eczema.
@@marisamorais3150 Yep, I'm talking about atopic dermatitis. After 20 years I've accepted there's no actual cure. Just work to better process stress.
Exactly. Have to heal the gut and the body from with in.

Love how you present information (flickering lights and all 🙂), but it would be helpful if you could either leave the products in front of the camera a little bit longer or show them before you start talking about them and then once again right after you finish because sometimes I’m not really paying attention until I hear what you have to say about the product.
Thank you so much for your wonderful and informative videos? When will you launch your skin care line?💕
My eczema is food related. I can avoid all externals and still suffer. Been on elimination diet for 5 months and it’s been a miracle.
what foods did you cut out please?
@StevenY.Which one please? Can you advice the name of the cream. I am in the UK.
Which foods you avoided?

I have dealt with it my entire life, as do my children. Luckily my Mother was on top of it and it's always been dealt with properly....and I have done the same with my kiddos.
Hey can you share some tips please... Would love to hear from yoh.

I’ve been diagnosed with eczema in my ears , Which medication could you recommend to treat it ?
I have dyshidrotic eczema and my doc prescribed me a topical steroid cream. It's a miraculous cream tbh. Every time I get those itchy bumps, I'd apply the cream and it takes only a day or two heal the eczema. Such a lifesaver!
What's the name of that tropical cream pls
