For a chunk of the 90s, you could not escape the first Hootie album. It spawned about 4 or 6 or 112 hit singles that were in constant radio rotation.... One of those bands that almost everybody ended up hating due to overexposure at the time... but now twentysome years later almost everybody can appreciate the near perfect pop/country songs they wrote.
26 yrs later, I'm still an AVID Fan , Now supporting Jim & Mark in their music as well , Went to the Reunion Tour , I literally cried because I didn't want it to end , So happy for all their success , big & small
I appreciate it now because when I hear them it brings nostalgic memories. Road trips in the summer as a kid and I can vividly remember having a great time.
Back in the day, I heard a great line from Darius Rucker when asked about Hootie and Blowfish. The interviewer asked Darius what it's like to be a black guy in an all white band. Darius replied (paraphrasing here): We're an all black band with 3 white dudes.
This reaction caught me on a bad day and i cried instantly. feels good to cry sometimes. classic song so many childhood memories from their songs. great reaction
Man, I was 17 when this album came out... from a small town.... high school.... girlfriends.... alcohol.... emotions... friends coming and going... all that shit... This bring back memories because everybody was playing Hootie at that time. Takes me back. Thanks, bruhh
Not only is Darius a gifted vocalist, he's very humble, very friendly, and has more school pride in his alma mater University of South Carolina, than the mascot. He regularly comes to Columbia for sporting events. You'll see him stsnding in line at the concession stand, usually alone, or with his family. Never ever, with a bodyguard. Always smiling, always positive, and he talks to everyone. Moma raised him right. When Darius decided he wanted a shot st country music, he recorded a cd, loaded up several cases of them and literally drove to every country music radio station possible, to put his music in the hands of the DJ...self promotion...it worked!
New routine:wake up, check your channel for new vids. Hope phone doesnt catch fire. Get ready for the day, work, come home, check channel again. Go to sleep thankful for all you do to make my days awesome.
Man I haven't heard this guy's since I was a kid. I've obviously came by Darius in the country music scene, but damn listening to this, his voice gave me chills.
My dad blessed my childhood with some beautiful music. I love hootie and the blowfish. I wouldnt have heard it if it werent for his taste in music.. had metallica and all that rock too. Acdc. But then stuff like this too. Big variety. My brother was the metal head, so i had alllll that too 🤣 plus all the popular music on mtv. I remember watching eminem's first music video on mtv.
First time I saw Hootie on MTV I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. Had heard Hold My Hand on the radio dozens of times. Saw the video and went "Holy shit! Dude is a brotha!!" Did not expect that at all. The guy is a brilliant writer and artist.
I was a freshman in college when Hootie and The Blowfish blew up, they played at my school that spring of '94. I was more into Pink Floyd and Ice Cube at the time, so I didn't pay Hootie much mind. A decade later, I was driving away from seeing the love of my life for the last time, going on a ride to clear my mind. This came on the radio. It became one of those songs that haunts me, follows me around. Randomly hear it a few times a year in stores or in a bar or whatever. Good song.
I got tickets to see Hootie & The Blowfish at Pine Knob when I was 17... The Sean Mullens Band opened for them, the whole concert was phenomenal. Darius was finishing a bottle of Budweiser every other song but everyone was having such a good time they stayed on for almost a two hour encore. Sweet, sweet nostalgia... give "I Go Blind" a shot if this one piqued your interests, you'll probably recognize it if you listened to radio stations regularly back in the early 2000's. Hootie, Smashmouth, Hanson, Savage Garden, Barenaked Ladies, Blink 182, Oasis, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers - that's all a small taste of what Y2K sounded like. Man, that takes me back.
My man, I'm so damn proud of you and your success! From a few hundred to this in a very short amount of time! Thank you for this video reaction, this took me back to place I haven't been in almost 25 yrs.
Hootie and the Blowfish I didnt concider them country back in the day. He became country after he went on his own. But I'm not an expert on this subject. This is just what I remember about my music from high school lol
South Carolina in the house....Hootie and the Blowfish started at the University of South Carolina playing on campus and local bars and the rest is history. Look at his pillow case on Wagon Wheel. They have many songs as good as this one.....great choice!
A J Agreed AJ, he will trip on the right in two lyrics, and Horizons, fuckin amazing song that i love but is very hard for me to listen too because of the loss of the most important person in my life. So many other Puscifer songs as well, i really like Smoke and Mirrors and Grand Canyon.potions is awesome but again, a little to close to home.
I am in Charlotte, they started off singing at lake Norman venues here. The Double door inn, I remember! He was bluesy country but Darius now has big country hits. That was an awesome throw back song for me to here! Love the reaction 😊
I love the variety in your reactions man. It's awesome to see you explore. Hootie is one hell of a band. Been ones of my favorites for a long time. Darius's solo work is phenomenal also. He is one hell of a artist. Glad you did this one
This is one of my favorite songs of all time and when i saw you reacted to it I was taken back a bit, wasn't expecting it at all. Dope reaction to a deep, dope song!
Hootie and the Blowfish always takes me back to a time when I was so passionately in love with someone and a place Myrtle Beach and just listening to some Hootie.....love 'em.
This is one of my favorite bands and songs of life. I've been listening to this a lot the last few months... so weird that ur just here right now...jammin to it
Love this Preston! Hootie is from my hometown in South Carolina. They just did a show hear to raise school supplies for children. One of my favorite songs growing up. Was my mom's favorite until the day she passed. I grew up in hip hop but rocked with Hootie when they were only local.
I saw the drummer for Hootie play in a few college soccer games at USC (the real one in Columbia, South Carolina not Cali). He made a good decision to stick (pun intended) to drumming.
This song is bittersweet for me, this was my brother's favorite album (Cracked Rear View)... In '95 him and I road around one Saturday afternoon listening to this... That next Monday he was dead, so it holds a special place in my heart.
In 2008 the band went on hiatus while Rucker went to pursue a solo career in country music. As of 2015 they did announce that they were getting back together.
Wow, Preston, I didn't see this one coming. I actually discovered this band before they got famous so this brings back a lot of memories for me. The song Always gave me chills.
Definitely. Also, Hannah Jane is a cracking opening track. The whole album is stunning and so soulful. Preston, I think you would really get a kick out of the whole thing. [el'sda2].
The awesome thing about this song is he has said in interviews that he sang this song because of the song she talks to angels by the counting crows, and he was the substance abuser in a previous relationship
You're by far the best at reaction vids bruhhhhh, but I might be biased since I have a 20 year old son named Preston, but for real though you have such a broad taste in music just like me! Much love bruhhhh! Keep em coming and I will keep watching!!!❤👊❤
I always appreciated Darius Rucker's fusion of country and blues he keeps the feel that country was founded on. I miss the days when country was actually country and none of that pop music they label as country these days. I always respect those who care about the genre and remember its roots in folk and blues!
I miss Hootie. They are due a resurgence. This one always manages to make me tear a little. A song yhat to me is about being right in the middle of that battle and just trying to find the strength to keep it together.
Preston, you're a genuine lover of music! All music! There's beauty in all music. It's the one thing that unites us all! I'm going back to see your first reactions. I missed your beginnings.
I saw this band in 1994 when they were touring for their Cracked Rear View Mirror album. The concert had such a chill vibe. The lighters were lit up, the crowd was singing along & swaying. It was awesome.
Darius said he wrote the song for Bonnie Raitt and that it was supposed to be titled "Let Him Cry" the song was a reflection song of what he was to a loved one. Deep writing, fantastic vocals and music. Just an amazing score all around
Back in the day an African American singer named Charlie Pride singing Kiss an angel good morning. And Milton Patton Trouble. Rissi Palmer sings Country Girl. All African American. Their music is awesome
Darius is a really kool guy. He went to middleton high school down here in Charleston SC with my brother jamar. This brother didn't forget where he came from.
This was the first country song darius rucker wrote but it never at the time was thought of as country but he will admit he wrote it as a country inspired song still love it
they r actually a slow southern rock band, not country.. the lead singer “Darius Rucker” made some country albums solo as a side project.. but he will always be the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish.. they just release their 6th studio album in 2019
Been binging your videos, great watching a genuine person discover good music. Take it from a big tool fan, you’ve gotta do “by and down the river” by a perfect circle. Same lead singer and just as great but less heavy sound. An audible work of art.
I've liked this tune for a long time - it was a pop hit when I was at the right age - but I've never thought very deeply about it. Your reaction might be the best critique of this song I've witnessed. Thanks!
sheesh, I didn't appreciate this song nearly enough as a kid, I guess for obvious reasons since I was a naive ass kid who'd never been through anything but also just because Hootie was EVERYWHERE back then so I just tuned them out I guess... his singing just hits me right in the feels
I love Darius Rucker’s voice. Everyone I know loves his voice. Hell even Frank Sinatra loved his voice and personally requested Darius sing for him at his 80th birthday party.
Hold on Bruuuuuuuuh you really bringin the variety all kinds of genres. I like it.
Bruh, you all over the map in this music. I like it.
Me toooooi!

This song was on the top 40 when I was growing up man . Gave me a lot of memories .
26 yrs later, I'm still an AVID Fan , Now supporting Jim & Mark in their music as well , Went to the Reunion Tour , I literally cried because I didn't want it to end , So happy for all their success , big & small
They came back into heavy rotation on my itunes about 7 years ago when I found their discs laying around.
I remember that too...great reaction to a ridiculously stupid question.
This reaction caught me on a bad day and i cried instantly. feels good to cry sometimes. classic song so many childhood memories from their songs. great reaction
This song gets me every time.
I'm probably going to get alot of hate, but I sole heartedly think it's in the top 10 best songs ever written next to stairway to heaven
Seriously! Water works came on instantly for me
Crazy how much memory and feeling a song can hold throughout the passing of time!
@@XlissueslXgamingI absolutely agree.

wow, yeah, that would be amazing! [el'sda2].
New routine:wake up, check your channel for new vids. Hope phone doesnt catch fire. Get ready for the day, work, come home, check channel again. Go to sleep thankful for all you do to make my days awesome.
God his voice is beyond amazing
Darius Rucker is the truth. I think him moving to country was the smartest thing he could have done.
Man I haven't heard this guy's since I was a kid. I've obviously came by Darius in the country music scene, but damn listening to this, his voice gave me chills.

I miss this guys reactions so much. Greatest UA-cam reactor of ALL TIME. He felt everything the same way I do.
Darius Rucker's version of "Wagon Wheel" is one of the most popular country songs of the last five years. "Homegrown Honey" is another good one.
That whole album is fantastic. I just listen to the entire set of Hootie tracks end to end.
Stevie Ray Vaughan- the sky is crying
Great song
Paradise Riviera
Nice one

Some throw back shit right here. I love how you really mix up the reactions man... keep up the good work Preston!!!

Judith, A Perfect Circle. Lets finish the Maynards mom saga bro. If u thought the other lyrics were deep, wait till u hear these man.
The patient should be included also. Its from her perspective.
Gotta add Orestes, Passive, and Puscifer - Horizons. And as an unrelated bonus, lyric video to Tool - right in two. Great lyrics

This song is bittersweet for me, this was my brother's favorite album (Cracked Rear View)...
In '95 him and I road around one Saturday afternoon listening to this...
That next Monday he was dead, so it holds a special place in my heart.
What?? Sorry to hear that... this an awesome album
An acoustic guitar, a few friends,a few beverages and that song, a time you won't forget.
In 2008 the band went on hiatus while Rucker went to pursue a solo career in country music. As of 2015 they did announce that they were getting back together.
This is just pop music back in my day and I love this guy like all artists that are good to get softer and have meaning even the pissed-off rock guys
Aww.. when I was a little girl my dad and I made up a “dance” with our hands for the chorus to this.. thanks for the memories as he’s since passed
Wow, Preston, I didn't see this one coming. I actually discovered this band before they got famous so this brings back a lot of memories for me. The song Always gave me chills.
hootie and the blowfish - only wanna be with you

He really put a ton of feeling into that, I madly love him
Dude! I literally could not have clicked on this reaction faster! More Hootie!
The best variety of music, keep them videos coming Preston.

Soundtrack to my high school year... thanks for this trip down memory lane 😘
Holy shit, Hootie...this brings back memories. Saw them live once.

They forgot Darius Rucker was the lead man of Hootie and the Blowfish. Good stuff!
90s had whole lot of great alternative bands and this one among the best lots from 90s... Can't have that blissful era again... Oh good old 90s
Hootie and the Blowfish had many great songs. Here's 3 everyone should enjoy.
1) HOLD MY HAND
2) I ONLY WANNA BE WITH YOU
3) I GO BLIND
Brought me back to freshman year of college!
👍🏻
The musical diversity in your reactions is why you are the best reactor on UA-cam right now!
Few things make me more nostalgic than Hootie And The Blowfish.
Preston, you're a genuine lover of music! All music! There's beauty in all music. It's the one thing that unites us all! I'm going back to see your first reactions. I missed your beginnings.

What is an amazing note about that song is that Darrius has said a few times he was really the girl in the song. Anyone can change their life
This takes me back to when I was in my teens. I'm not going to lie this reaction made me feel old.
I LOVE HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH AND DARIUS RUCKER FOR SURE!!!!!!!HOOTIE WAS MY TEEN YEARS...DAMN...JUST LOVE THEM!!
one of my fav songs of all time
Darrius Rucker was pretty big in the 90s alternative scene. Now he is killing it in the country scene.
His name is Darren Rucker And he plays country music now his voice is amazing

Back in the day an African American singer named Charlie Pride singing Kiss an angel good morning. And Milton Patton Trouble. Rissi Palmer sings Country Girl. All African American. Their music is awesome
Love his voice.
Darius is a really kool guy.
He went to middleton high school down here in Charleston SC with my brother jamar.
This brother didn't forget where he came from.

This was the first country song darius rucker wrote but it never at the time was thought of as country but he will admit he wrote it as a country inspired song still love it
Wow I hadn't heard this before and jesus if I didn't get chills every 10 seconds of the song. Fantastic.
that's crazy you never heard this but your prob early 20s but it's cool you had that reaction
You can't go wrong with a little Hootie.
This band was "discovered" by David Letterman. Night and day after being on his show.
Darius Rucker is great in concert! The way he can morph the old Hootie songs to different styles is fantastic.
Jesus. You're reacting to Hootie. Your mind is free. Keep it up. Great tunes ahead.
One of my favorite songs
Yess i love this band. He is now a Country singer with his own song Darius Rucker. You should react to his song.
they r actually a slow southern rock band, not country.. the lead singer “Darius Rucker” made some country albums solo as a side project.. but he will always be the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish.. they just release their 6th studio album in 2019
That voice, dayum crazy vocals.
Preston, Darius Rucker is awesome! You have heard Lenny Kravitz right?!
Saw them with 5440. Great show. Did “long train runnin” as an encore. Still with to this day. That was 20 years ago
Thanks!
sheesh, I didn't appreciate this song nearly enough as a kid, I guess for obvious reasons since I was a naive ass kid who'd never been through anything but also just because Hootie was EVERYWHERE back then so I just tuned them out I guess... his singing just hits me right in the feels
ohhhh snap...what a great song...love this song...
I love Darius Rucker’s voice. Everyone I know loves his voice. Hell even Frank Sinatra loved his voice and personally requested Darius sing for him at his 80th birthday party.
