Let Her Cry is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Th best Hootie song!
He said that was the first country song he wrote “Let her cry”
Let Her Cry is so amazing.
100% agree
Yes such a good song.
Love me a great Hootie song, saw them once in 94 or 95. My favs were "Only Wanna be with You" and "let Her Cry." Darius has that rasppy, gravelly voice.
Can’t be that long ago….. gawd…
Can’t be that long ago….. gawd…
One of the biggest bands of the 90's. Everybody loved them.
I lived in Columbia, SC in the early 90’s. Hootie and the Blowfish played all the local clubs around Columbia and cities around the state. At that time they were a very popular local band. I still have one of there original demo cassette tapes, this was before CD’s. It had 5 of there original songs, “Hold my Hand”, “I only want to be with you” to mention a couple. David Letterman heard their music and had them on his show and the rest is history.
Darius Rucker is just awesome! Whether he's with Hootie and the Blowfish, or going solo, you just can't go wrong with him! Your reactions always make me smile, Sebs😄
"Let Her Cry' is also totally awesome and, their biggest hit....if I'm not mistaken.
It was awesome listening this on the radio! He does have a great voice and it’s amazing how he can transition from this to Country. He is excellent in both genres. If you want to check out his country songs, I’d like to recommend “History in the Making” and “Come Back song” (the latter was a HUGE song for him.
Absolutely one of my favorite bands ever!! Listen to Let Her Cry!!
Just a little background for you. The members of Hootie were attending the University of South Carolina in Columbia SC and most, if not all, members lived in the same dorm. They were playing in small college clubs in town. One time one of them was taking a shower and heard this guy singing and thought he was really good. He waited until Darius got out, told him of the band and asked if he would be interested in coming to a practice. Darius did, joined the band, played small clubs, got a manager and the rest is history. I do not remember where the name came from. My daughter graduated from USC, as did her husband. They got engaged at a Hootie concert in Columbia on their last tour during “Hold My Hand”. It was a great night.
hold my hand is one of those sing along with songs that just never really seems to become annoying and is a classic because it is just a great song, then let her cry also hit the same level
I can't get tired of Hootie! Never did. Once they hit the scenes, with this song, they were everywhere. And it was awesome to just drive some miles and listening to all the great music from that era.
There's amazing music from all eras. And I can retrace my begins to the early rock of the 60's. But the 90's were something special.
Bravo! 👏 An Excellent Reaction 🤘💜 Hootie and the Blowfish, along with Goo Goo Dolls, just define the 90's for me. I'm so glad I Subscribed to this channel, I love it! 🤗
I bought their album Cracked Rear View, which this song is on, when it came out and loved it. I will still listen to it occasionally start to finish without skipping a single song. I’m so happy to see you appreciate the music that defined my teenage years ❤
I will never get tired of any Hootie and the Blowfish songs! My favourite is Let Her Cry! I actually haven’t heard it in awhile so I’m going to pull it up! Classic!
I’m so excited you’re exploring Hootie and The Blowfish! Ok…your reaction so far says it all!
I remember when they were a college band out of the University of South Carolina. I live about an hour from that college and heard them play in some of the bars when they were very young. I am so happy Country can call him a member of the "Country Club". Great reaction Sebs!
You must hear “LET HER CRY” 😊😊
Remember it like it was yesterday...the last great decade of music!
This whole album is killer. I'd never heard of them, but was on a road trip and stopped in a travel station for fuel... saw the album cover and the groups name and though I'd give it a listen. Loved it from the 1st few bars. The next day I was taking my wife to work, and the CD was still in the player... I didn't get it back for weeks.
Hootie was one of my go to bands back in the 90s, and I can still vibe out to them today, so continue the rabbit hole. Let Her Cry,...Time,...and Only Wanna Be With You. should be a must if you want a few more or their best songs imo.
Let Her Cry & Time are definitely worth checking out!
If there's one thing Hootie's taught me....the Dolphins will always make me cry.
Saw them live back in the day, fabulous band live. Darius Tucker has an amazing voice, just love it. Still love me some Hootie and the Blowfish. ❤
Literally saw this band form from it's infancy when it was just Darius and Mark (guitar) playing in the bars around Five Points in Columbia SC. All 4 members met while attending the University of South Carolina. Soni (drums) and Dean (bass) joined and the 4 continued playing locally for awhile until their big break and they became an overnight success. It's a great rabbit hole to go down if inclined. As a side note my cousin played soccer with Soni at the College of Charleston. Great bunch of guys that deserve all their success.
I can't even count how many cassettes I burned through. Cracked Rear View is the absolute BEST driving music ever. Some of my best memories include this song and the rest of the cd, driving along PCH with the Pacific Ocean on one side and singing at the top of my lungs. Thank you for listening to this!!
Hootie and the Blowfish was actually the very first cd I ever got. ‘Cracked Rear View Mirror’ I believe was the album title. This song played A LOT on the radio but I didn’t mind because I loved it.
I bought myself Hootie & the Blowfish concert tickets in 1994 for my 25th birthday. The concert was great. I don't ever remember having a contact high but I did after going to that show.
Love Hootie and the Blowfish😊
😍💭
I love love love Hootie and the Blowfish❤❤❤
This album, Cracked Rear View, and The Cranberries “No Need To Argue” we’re the first 2 CDs that I ever bought. Absolutely Love both albums.
I don’t get tired of Hootie & The Blowfish.
Please do " Let Her Cry"!
I still have the original CD and case from '94. NO, I never got tired of the whole Cracked Rear View album. It takes me back to when our son was 2 y/o and we were living life as best we could. I lost my husband of 30+ years in 2020 and the album still conjures so many memories. There are so many lyrics that hit deeper today, Darius had suffered the loss of his mother and his words repeat in my head. The song, Not Even The Trees hits HARD: "I'm a stranger in my home, now that everybodys gone", "And I wonder if you're looking down at me
And smiling right now
I wanna know if it's true
When he looks at me
Won't you tell me
Does he realize he came down here
He took you too soon"
I went to a Hootie and the blowfish concert in Arizona! Played their music all the time!
I am so fortunate that I went to the University of South Carolina at the same time as Darius, Mark, Dean, and Soni. Weekends were always about going to Group Therapy, Elbow Room, Rockerfellas to see Hootie and the Blowfish. It defines my college years. Love these guys.
I worked several of their shows back in the early 90s. They put out some fantastic music and great live shows. They treated the staff with respect and they were very humble.
i was born in 74 i grew up in the 80s and 90s and agree best music ever and so many
Darius has always had an AMAZING voice... as soon as we heard Hootie... we loved them. But by the time they were on Friends, and had multiple albums... they were everywhere. And then they became "Hootie & Yo Mama's Fish."
Now you should listen to some Counting Crows. Adam Duritz has another unique and amazing voice. And then get into some Blues Traveler. John Popper has a great voice and he is one the best harmonica players out there.
Reminds me of high school😊 that was an awesome decade for music in general!
maybe but lets just say.. the 80's changed music forever!! will never be another era like that!
God this takes me back! This came out the year I entered the USAF as a 2Lt. I’m now retired and working in the corporate world. Crazy! I miss those days!
Love watching you discover all this great music.
You know it would be really interesting to see a reaction to The Spin Doctors. Hootie and the Blowfish and the Spin Doctors were killing it around this time. Love your reactions BTW, just love seeing all the positivity and the love of great music no matter the genre.
They came out when grunge was at its height and they where such a breath of fresh air. I can’t say the 90s were the greatest decade of music, but I really feel that it was the end of truly great music.
Love these guys
"Let Her Cry" another really great one!!
Oh, can't leave out "Only Want to be With You"
You should listen to him sing "She Talks to Angels". Darius wrote it but it was recorded and made famous by "The Black Crows".
The Conversation with Waylon Jennings & Hank Williams Jr singing about Hank Williams Sr is an amazing song
The 90's was the best decade for everything
Love this and this is a song I never get tired of listening to. The depth of the peace and love movement is amplified by this song. Let Her Cry is one you should also listen to.
Super nice guys! I ran in to them in the lobby of a hotel! Really nice, polite peeps! Apparently they did a show that night in Dallas.
Love his voice! Time is one of my all time favorites. I was in North Carolina the summer of 95 going to the beach and listening to this!
I was never a fan of Hootie and the Blowfish back in the 90s, but a few of their songs really stood the test of time. This is definitely one.
Time!! That’s one of their best!
Hootie and the blowfish were awesome group. He himself going country was a hit for him.
I saw Hootie & The Blowfish in the 90’s… I’m totally in love with Darius’s voice.. my brother in law golf’s with Darius & sends me pictures all the time… my favorites are Not Even the Trees or Goodbye
Just discovering your channel. Good stuff. You mentioned STP "Interstate Love Song" Hootie and the blowfish have a cover of that song, that was released same time this came out. Apologies if other comments already pointed that out.
I have a lot of sentimental attachment to this song/album. I started to learn to play music around when it came out, so I asked my dad to get me the guitar book for the album. Some of the first songs I ever learned to play!
Sooo gooood! Love his voice ❤
NEVER got tired of lustening to his music😊
Mid 60's hippie and loved this at time,
I was on the 2nd row at Hootie and the Blowfish in 1996 and OMG what a great concert!!! Loved it!!! ❤❤❤
I love your enthusiasm. Let Her Cry is also beautiful from them.
Well, you are educating me now, Sebs! I didn’t know that Darius was also with Hootie and the Blowfish.
Loved Hootie and this song brings back great memories of my early 30s. I never tired of their music
I never get tired of Hootie!!
Brilliant live seen them many times🇬🇧
They were great on Sesame Street singing this song, teaching kids how to cross the street: "hold my hand". ❤
MTV was all over this! I got tired of this song. Now I’m 47 I’ll listen to it if I have to. Like your reaction today and I’m good for another 30 years.
I was stationed at Charleston SC back when they were playing local a lot.
The band is a legend here in Charleston. Darius is from Charleston and the band was formed while the guys were at USC.
I've never tired of Hootie and the Blowfish. Loved them from day 1
I want to say right around the time the was out, another of their singles was also charting: "Only Wanna Be With You." I was working as a residential mortgage banker at the time, and remember having this on the radio (remember those?) while I crunched numbers. Yeah, I'm old.
Darius & the boys all met at my alma mater, University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks 🐓🤙🏻) back in the 90’s and the rest is history. Darius is our biggest ambassador of the school & the state. him singing “Wagon Wheel”, “I Only Wanna Be With You”
Let her Cry is fantastic. Old man and me is excellent too. Only wanna be with you as well! Hootie Rules
Wait until you get into 80s music!!! Sone of the very best music comes outta those years ❤❤
Darius' songs were always touching. His voice don't even think genres just emotion and soulful voice! He exudes warmth and sincerity! ❤ Loved him first song I heard.
Classic, great song
My favorite band to this day! This album Cracked Rear View didn’t have a bad song on it!
This album was so iconic and even though I was in elementary it’s stuck with me through the highs and lows. I’m glad ppl are giving him his due! Pls react to the whole album ‘Musical Chairs’ 💕
His music whether solo or in group with hootie lifts me. I never got tired of this. I wore out this cassette tape and bought a second LOL. THIS IS the anthem of my late twenties. That and Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Melissa Etheridge got me through a deep heartache.
Awesomeness!! Great rabbit hole to explore!!!❤❤❤❤🎤Definitely a family fav!!!
He's amazing in any era of music doesn't matter what the song is.♥️♥️
Love these guys
The first of many to follow, the biggest problem is they waited to come out with fair weather Johnson to long.( album #2 ) by then many other bands that were similar had blown up. So album # 2 did not do so well. ABSOLUTELY MY FAVORITE BAND!!!! Let her cry, I’m going home and time. Awesome songs from their Cracked Rearview Mirror album.
This band is from my state, South Carolina! Darius is from Charleston, and the whole band attended the University of South Carolina’s School of Music.
This was my favorite band when I started listening to popular music.
Also, they actually covered Interstate Love Song on a live TV concert (around New Years I think) and I had never heard them cover anything before that. Good stuff.
It’s pretty awesome! Fun times 😊
Love this band so much! Great music. Great vibe!
You know you made it when you are on Sesame Street singing this song teaching Elmo how to cross the street. ( it’s been a long time so I think that’s right). lol.
The entire album, 'Cracked Rear View' is quality.
(classic band introduction/album pun: 'Cover up your Cracked Rear View and hang on to your Fairweather Johnson, here comes Hootie and the Blowfish'.)
A superb hidden gem of his comes off their cover tribute album: Scattered, Smothered, Covered (a Waffle House reference.) It's got an amazing track, 'Closing Time'... Not the Semisonic song, but the one originally by Tom Waits. Darius' voice really shines on that stripped down version. Freaking sweet.
I seen them in a bar in 1990 paid three dollars been a fan ever since
Love this!
AMEN AND AMEN
it was written by the drummer and david crosby is singing on it.....they also do a cover of interstate love song
Love them and Darius Rucker!
Please react to Time! Love Hootie and the Blowfish. Thanks for reacting to them!
I know Darius' voice in any genre. Love, love, love his music so much!
Not Even the Trees is an Amazing song by Hootie & the Blowfish from their first album. I think my favorite Hootie song would have to be Only Lonely... BOTH songs and many more of their songs are worth you checking out
Thanks!
Thank you for the support! So much help from you, Mark.
My friend, Brantley Smith, was the original drummer!
As someone from SC I've meet him a few times
