They actually used a weird tuning for this song. The singer made up his own tuning on the acoustic guitar, thats why it sounds different. There's also a Mandolin (Doesn't sound quite like a guitar, but kinda). Those things and the string section give this song such a haunting vibe. There's something dark in the instrumental. Its genius
This song always makes me tear up. This song was written for a movie called city of angels with nicolas cage and meg ryan. You should totally watch the movie, because it will make the lyrics make so much more sense than they already do.
A lot of reaction channels these days but yours is definitely one of the genuine ones. Some people are just acting but I see you're actually enjoying this music. Keep it up!
Goo Goo Dolls- Black Balloon. Also. The Wallflowers- One Headlight Oasis- Wonderwall Eve 6- Here's To The Night Edwin Mccain- I'll Be The Verve The Freshman
I love this channel for the Rap reactions. Because I love rap so much but this brings me back to my childhood so much and I absolutely loved this reaction. It would be awesome if you could do some Fleetwood Mac
Clay Hopkins same I came here late one night for an Eminem reaction and went through a few songs and some 50 songs then tonight I’ve stumbled upon this, some metal and some country. I love all music that has meaning and rhythm. I’ve enjoyed pretty much every reaction video I’ve seen so far from him
i came because "oh a black guy is reacting to some Alice and Chains. lets see how he likes it" and Preston is such a genuine guy its fun to see his reactions to stuff I love and ive seen a ton of his vids now
Proud of my hometown boys. Used to hang with them in the radio station at Buffalo State College on new music night way back in the early 90s. Singer Johnny Rzeznik is a hell of a songwriter. Name has some of my favorite lines ever: We grew up way too fast/ And now there's nothing to believe/ And reruns all become our history
I vividly recall the day I first heard this song at the age of 4. It was moving day in our house so the television was on the floor. I remember sitting in front of the TV as MTV or VH1 was playing (I assume so the movers have something to listen to) when the video for Iris came on... Ever since that day, the Goo Goo Dolls have been my favorite band. Now I am 25 and pursuing music myself! I hope to meet them one day...
They killed this song. It stayed on top of the charts and on the radio for a while too. They are still relevant today. They had a hit song within the last couple years. Check out "Name". It's another great song from them
Damn, this is what I was talking about. I didn't think you'd actually pull me back here. You took me to a place I've blocked out for nearly 20 years, Damn my dude, Kuniva was right and I'm glad he made me sponsor and monitor your channel, I'm taking the rest of the week off after this. You're Killin It!
Preston, if you want to see the spirit of this band, search for Goo Goo Dolls, Iris, 4th of July concert! It was pouring down rain and the fans weren’t going anywhere so the band came back out and performed “Iris” in the pouring rain!....it was beautiful, man!
Iris will always be a favorite of mine the lyrics as well as the music itself overwhelms you and draws you in so much to where you don't want the song to end. The small attention to detail with the mandolin throughout the song is beautifully done. Might sound sappy but its a damn good song that earns my respect. This era of music will always win over new gen bs at least for me.
Been watching your videos for a while now. Good to see someone who appreciates all music. There is so much music to discover. I browse UA-cam all the time looking for new music. Keep doing what you do.
You have to see this video live on UA-cam, they played this in the pouring rain and it’s just beautiful. 2004. No cell phones in the crowds. Just hands raised and people screaming
You’ve got a point there with the tuning! I found this online: “The lead singer tuned his 6th string down to a B. All of the other strings are tuned to a D. This creates a sound almost like 2 twelve string guitars playing together. The lower B string is usually just used for the moving bass lines. All in all it creates a nice full sounding and unique sound.”- Guitar Lessons 365 It’s amazing how creative you can get with the guitar (mandolin was a great addition too) and it suited this song perfectly. 👌🏾
I thought the same thing. I've been becoming increasingly skeptical of reactors for a while now cuz it seems like the ones with the biggest subscription numbers all react to the exact same songs so it was cool to see someone going with a song that has zero cred in the metal ranks. Hell, I even strongly disliked this song for a decade until it finally clicked with me when I was drunk and stoned at a party about a decade ago.
Went through a really bad breakup when this song was out. This song cut through me every single time! Still does, but less pain. Great song. Perfect in the movie, "City of Angels".
Watching this really reminds me how much I lov this song!! It was written for the movie City of Angels and knowing the backstory makes it even more special tbh. Also the gitar is tuned slightly differently.
This song was in the movie City of Angels and the lyrics describe alot about the movie. Which is a good movie BTW. But this song takes me back. Their song Name is excellent as well. It came out before this. I still have this on cassette somewhere lol
Just found your channel. Loving your reaction videos. This is one of my most favorite songs. I absolutely love the music. It's just so beautiful and moving. You want to crawl inside this song and let it surround you.
I love that you appreciate lyrics too. One of the most lyrically beautiful love songs l have ever heard is “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain. The lyrics are stunningly beautiful. I want it to be my wedding song. You will love it. 🙌🥰
This was one of those songs you'd be listening to and someone walks into the room and you hurry up and turn it down. "...Nothin man, what do you want, knock next time."
This song is from the City of Angels soundtrack. Another good song from that same movie and soundtrack, is Uninvited by Alanis Morrisette. It's a hauntingly beautiful song, with a little bit of grit to it.
I've known this song my entire life, yet those lyrics have never hit me harder then they did watching this video. Never took the time to take in the full meaning of those lyrics, but shit, I know that feeling.
Since you enjoy these lyrics, you might enjoy another band from this era called Counting Crows. "Mr Jones", "Round Here", "Rain King", all from 1993 are among their most popular.
You should watch the performance of this song in Buffalo on July 4, 2004. It's their hometown, and they put on a free concert in front of City Hall. To me it's simply one of the best things I've ever seen. I'm gonna go watch it now. BTW, another excellent reaction - I enjoy your channel more than most, and I'm glad you're branching out into other styles. Peace.
Hit song from movie city of angels I always thought the song fit well w/ the whole angel deciding to fall from heaven bc of his love for a woman & the lyrics narrate this sentiment very well
The reaper ( don’t fear the reaper ) blue oyster cult Richard Ashcroft - check the meaning & song for the lovers The Allman brothers band - whipping post Dengue fever - tiger phone card Beck - lost cause Damien Rice - blowers daughter Deftones - Minerva & back to school Pearl Jam - Black

Slangh I gotta say I agree with you but this guy shows genuine reactions and is not trying to put on a show. He is entertaing just by being real......
CANDLEBOX - "Far Behind"
Id rather him react to "you"
Yesssss!!!
Wouldn't mind a react to "rain" either.. Great song with killer blues/rock tones.
Yessss
Omg! THIS!
If I'm not mistaken, you're hearing a guitar *and* a mandolin there. That's the string instrument with the sweeter sound.
One thing that made Goo Goo Dolls sound unique is the the guitar was often tuned in an alternate tuning.
Goo Goo Dolls- Black Balloon.
Also.
The Wallflowers- One Headlight
Oasis- Wonderwall
Eve 6- Here's To The Night
Edwin Mccain- I'll Be
The Verve The Freshman

Never admit it but I always have liked the goo goo dolls. Props to them for always making good stuff
why wouldn’t you? they are an amazing band with amazing songs

I love the strings in this song. Really adds to the beauty.
Now you gotta do Slide by goo goo dolls
React to goo goo dolls “slide”

I really appreciate how willing you are to listen to anything. This is a beautiful song.
Same genre.....Back 2 Good by Matchbox 20 is a good one that'll get you right in the feels.

So awesome that you appreciate the extraordinary guitar skills and writing. Johnny uses alternate tuning for his songs ❤️ “That’s so perfect” ❤️
Written specifically for the City Of Angels soundtrack. Goes along with the movie perfectly!!

So 90's and so wonderful.

You’ve got a point there with the tuning!

You're one of my favorite reactors, just because of reacting to this.
I thought the same thing. This song was in the movie City of Angels. I know it made million of girls cry.
Went through a really bad breakup when this song was out. This song cut through me every single time! Still does, but less pain. Great song. Perfect in the movie, "City of Angels".
loving the orchestral instruments
FYI they wrote this song for the movie City of Angels. If you like this song you're gonna love Name - Goo Goo Dolls. Great reaction to a great song!
Goo Goo Dolls are so great. Makes my list of favorite bands.
I was also singing with the song :)
Even better when you listen to the song in context of the soundtrack of the movie "City of Angels".... then it REALLY hits home!!
This song was written for the movie City of Angels. The lyrics fit perfectly with the story line.
Those lyrics will never get old!
You’re completely right about the tuning of the guitar. This is why I love watching these reaction videos. You’re really thoughtful about music.
One of my favorite songs in the entire universe. We named our cat after this song 💖
Watching this really reminds me how much I lov this song!! It was written for the movie City of Angels and knowing the backstory makes it even more special tbh. Also the gitar is tuned slightly differently.
always good to see people from your hometown make it big.
Watch them live in buffalo 2004 pouring rain. Such a gorgeous song. This was the song he wrote when he was about to quit music before he got big
I love your channel. I love your smile. I love your aura. You are completely real.
This song was in the movie City of Angels and the lyrics describe alot about the movie. Which is a good movie BTW. But this song takes me back. Their song Name is excellent as well. It came out before this. I still have this on cassette somewhere lol
