Toyota is having way too many recalls to be asking for that much money on a new 4Runner or Tacoma. Toyota used to be the most reliable, now i can’t even trust the manufacturer to produce anything with quality and reliability
I am really hung-up on the cost-cutting move that the 6th gen went to tumble forward second row seats for ALL 4Runners. In the 5th gen, you got tumble forward if you had a 3 row, and you got the normal fold down if you had a 2 row version. That makes a nice flat area, doesn't waste as much cargo space, and results in an area you can actually sleep in. I guess they just didn't feel like having two versions of second row seats. Tumbling seats forward in a 6th gen, it seems like sleeping in it isn't happening, and that's a shame, because when I'm on an overlanding trip, sometimes I just wanna sleep in the truck, not set up a tent for a one-nighter.
Nice overview. Definitely like the Trailhunter. We have a 5th gen set up for Overlanding with the OME shocks and 3" lift springs along with 33" tires. Look forward to more power and fuel economy. The updated tech and safety gear is a plus as well. Glad they kept the sliding rear window, we use that a lot. Wish the costs were lower, but we plan on keeping it a long time...
@@pinchemichael5861 It'll probably only be heavier by ~200lbs if comparing to weight to the new Land Cruiser. Some in that hybrid powertrain (that this will get) are averaging ~25s overall with up to 30 highway
Beauty is only sheet metal deep; this 4Runner will brake the bank and it doesn't do anything the current 4Runner can't do. If it actually gets 8-10 MPG better it might be worth the enormous price increase, but this will only improve 1-2 mpg!
I would have preferred a 4cyl turbo diesel to this. These will require a whole lot more servicing to get a lot of mileage out of them. I was considering buying a new one but had no idea they discontinued the bullet proof 4.0 Darn what a let down for me😢
This interior redesign could’ve been brought to the gen 5. Even some quality of life imporovements like better camera quality + better infotainment system. This 4Runner shared everything with the Tacoma yet the prices won’t reflect that. They get to save money yet the consumer won’t
@@timalan7406 lol pushed to its limit? I highly doubt that dude. If they couldn’t even get 300hp out of a turbo 2.4 and it was cranked out as high as they could get it, then that’s absolutely pathetic. You know Toyota added variable cam timing to the 4.0 to get more power out of it, right? So to suggest it was “detuned” is about as absurd as your other comment.
@@timalan7406 furthermore, when the 4.0 came out in 2005, it was actually competitive on performance against Nissan’s 4.0 DOHC motor. It had one upgrade on power with the VVT like I mentioned, and then no further improvements made. So it wasn’t “detuned” at all, it just became antiquated. Toyota did the right thing by replacing it with a turbo 4 and turbo 4 hybrid.
The way they copy and pasted that U-shaped element on the front fascia is pretty cheap and ugly looking lol. Otherwise they look great and I'm excited to see how they perform.
I love the interior updates but honestly can't stand the exterior, I'm sure it's going to grow on me like most things have, but still. It's just way too gimmicky for me, it looks like a toy truck made of plastic
I bet people’s comment will go from “this 4runner looks sick!” To “there’s no way im gonna buy that 4banger turbo hybrid expensive af trash.” Once the numbers come out.
I'm not usually one to complain, but a 4 banger in a vehicle like this just doesn't make sense... it doesn't feel right... I'm sure the performance is fine it just feels like it should have been a 6 cylinder at the very least.
Don't mind the turbo, just wait 2 years for standard Toyota new engine corrections. Unfortunately the rear/cargo area is just crap. Lack of fold flat 2nd row is a non starter for a lot of current owners. They should have added accessory mount points instead of useless cupholders for non existent 3rd row seats. The other BIG issue is nobody at Toyota used the Trailhunter. The rear air and power face into the cargo area in a vehicle that will have drawers/cargo always covering it up making it useless. I do like the looks and the front row, but everything else is a pile of ignorance.
Even with all the upgrades I still prefer the last gen. I think Toyota increasing the prices and focusing on fancier trims instead of affordability was the wrong direction. Also the new ones are super ugly imo
Totally agree, let's not forget the reliability and long term retention rate, inline4+turbo+hybrid+iMax transmission cannot even come close to the old one, too many failure points in comparison to tried and true 4L V6 and 5 speed auto, which plays to your affordability point as well
New ones will be great looking in person just like the Tacoma. Plus it has more power and torque. Plus a much nicer interior. Hopefully they fixed the bad rusting for the price. These always rusted out after a few years.
@@ryanb8736 I’ve seen the new Tacoma in person and I’m still not a huge fan on the direction. This 4Runner is way too busy and overly macho. Don’t care about the little extra power and torque with how much extra complexity and weight is added. Just mate an 8 speed to the 4.0 and it will perform just as well
Need to see this in person to see and feel if it feels as durable and robust as previous gen/older suvs. Seems like as time goes by newer cars feel less and less durable thinner body panels paint and cheaper interior material. I like my 24 RX but the interior while it feels solid built it doesn’t feel like how older Lexus use to feel more robust.
I guess I see how the roof rack prevents a panoramic sunroof but from what I can see in the video it looks like it's so far back that a normal size sunroof for the front could have been implemented. I like that it has accent stitching but I think it would've been cooler if it matched the wheels or some other existing color accent. Looks more yellow to me.
I'll never be able to afford the Trailhunter 4Runner, but i REALLY hope they'll offer this color on some other trims. I suspect its a Trailhunter package only kinda thing though.

In my opinion- I don’t necessarily think having more trims and nicer features is a bad thing- it probably appeals to more buyers that way

Toyota - WHY not put a front locker in the Trailhunter version? (sigh)
Front lockers break a lot and needed very little usually however this new version doesn't offer atrac anymore on front?
Price on the new 4runners are going to be out of control but man, the interior space on the 4th gen are fugly.
