LC looks better looking, but 4Runner is all the way to go. I love 4Runner tire
Why you aren’t talking about the plethora of problems Toyota os having with quality control and power train 🤔 you should be telling/informing people since you are a Toyota guy at heart 😒
I was thinking the same thing! 😅
$70k is absurd for a 4Runner. You can keep it.
Can't wait to get one in 5 years as a used car 😂
@@user-pp1jl1pc4xToyota fanboys are crazy. Expect to pay 50k for a used one
@@user-pp1jl1pc4x in 5 years its still going to be $70k used, all you'll get is 100k+ miles engine wear.
70,000 what? DOLLARS?!?!
Welp, I’m out. Ridiculous
Disappointed in the auto industry. Good content Jon. Keep up the reviews.
Will do man!!!!! Thank you for the continued support. I appreciate it.
ikr. they went absolutely bonkers. I don't buy it's just because of inflation or whatever, they are really expensive and sadly people will still buy them using credit.
That doesn't make sense to me. You can get a Sequoia for nearly the same price
The last Land Cruiser was $90,000🤷♂
@user-jd9bu1oe8g much better than the actual model
You could buy a new gx550 overtrail for about the same price, or save some money and buy the 550 premium. I would rather drop 70k on a lexus than a toyota.
actually the premium is the cheapest
good luck getting one at MSRP for 70k....they are selling now in Calif at 20-30k mark up per and are sold as soon as they hit the lot at that price of 90-100k
Lexus vs Toyota maintenance cost comparison?
@@fseb233 My local Lexus dealer in Texas is selling them at MSRP. I actually spoke with a salesman at that dealership and they never markup any of their vehicles. That may be an anomaly, but it’s out there.
@cactuscanine3531 honestly, if your dropping 70k on a car, maintenence costs are not really a concern. Also, its toyota. Their costs will be almost the same.
Im picking neither ,I'm very happy with my 5th Gen 4runner very happy
The 4Runner seems like the more rugged, dedicated off-roader while the Land Cruiser seems much more refined and more daily driver friendly.
I prefer the LC. The styling is MUCH more cohesive in my opinion, and I am not a major off-roader but want something relatively capable when the time comes.
Agreed, and after decades of driving part-time 4wd, I would like full time 4wd for snow country
It's highly unlikely the 4runner is not refined then either the LC250 or the GX550. Yes the 4runner has 9 avalible trims and likely will be much easier to modify especially sharing so much DNA with the Tacoma.
My sentiments exactly. 👍🏼
refined daily driver...you might as well get an Acura MDX elite or Type-S for literally the same price as an LC. LC has no purpose other than the 4WD, everything else its inferior to an MDX...They are gouging Toyota loyalists because anyone not loyal to the brand can see there are better alternatives elsewhere. I'll stick to Honda products, I don't need a top of the class 4WD, most people don't.
@PWCDN you lost everyone comparing an MDX to a LC250. Completely irrelevant comments
Shoot for $70,000 you might as well get the 2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail instead of the TRD Pro
Glad I bought a 2024 4Runner
you rich fk
Imagine being glad of paying for a 2024 car released in 2009 with a 5 speed 80s transmission and an extremely outdated interior hahaha
Imagine being this du mb
I bought 2023 definitely not dumb this guy super GAF. So reliability wise I get it. That 5 speed transmission and 4.0 V6 are bullet proof this guy must no nothing about 4 Runners. Although we really don't know how these 2025 Hybrids will hold up, I think I'll buy one just for MPGs alone. All the updates and more power might be worth it until everything brakes after the warranty is up and I'm wishing I still had the 2023...
@@Rapido20 Lol agreed. Atrocious gas mileage, old ass 5 speed 4.0. Basically the same 4Runner as 2010 but paying 2024 prices. 👎 But it's reliable!!!
cool to bump into you at the Friday Overland Expo happy hour! keep up the good work on the channel!
Great time!
The current 4Runner the best. More features and no turbos!
Less capable
@@JStryker7 more with the off road package with kdss. New generation doesn’t have it.
@@nordlandak6853 the new LC 250 performed extremely well without it in the car and driver test
@@JStryker7 I’ve rather have it and 15k difference in price. But each his own.
@@JStryker7 if you think that new four-cylinder is going to be more capable, I got a bridge to sell you😂 you will get stuck with that pig on the trail, struggling to get its fat self out in the ditch
Is the ride on the Land Cruiser better than the 4Runner? I know you haven't driven the 4Runner yet, but I'm assuming it will be the same as a tacoma. So how does it compare?
I love my V8 4thgen, Orginally I was thinking I would Team 4Runner but the LC 250 has really stolen my heart. Going to get an LC if I can't get my TRD Pro Taco 😅
What is the weight difference between the two? Is there any mpg differences since the 4Runner has 2wd options?
As a previous owner of two 4 runners including the TRD pro and a current owner of a Land Cruiser purchased in 2012. The 4Runner prices are ridiculous. The Land Cruiser is not really a step up.
Hey John what's the best formats for 5th gen 4Runner?
I’ve liked the lasfit ones I’ve had in mine.
I like the look of the front end of the 4runner but I gotta say I think I’m overall more into the Land Cruiser, as much as it hurts me, with a lift and bigger tires with offset. Like the square headlights more than the round though.
Neither as I like GFX550 a lot more. But between the two, I like the look of the LC.
4hi in a part time FWD has a locked center differential.
How did you like the interior of the 1958 version?
Which car has better cargo space? Do either of them have a flat cargo space?
I’ve been debating both of these platforms. I’m on a waiting list for a First Edition LC, but if I can’t get one, I’m not really interested in either of the other two trims. I currently DD a 2017 SR5 and it’s been solid, but once I’m ready I’ll probably go 4Runner again over LC. The two trims I’d probably consider would be either the Platinum with some sort of TRD setup like the Tundra or the TRD Pro. Good comparison video Jon.
The 1958 is the LC to buy imo. It has a lot of nice features without the price tag of the luxury bells and whistles. Reminds me of the TRD Rock Warrior and the early TRD pros
70k? Ouch I didn’t realize they were that expensive.
GX500 Overtrail FTW.
Looking 👀 at the 4 Runner.
I will go with the 4Runnner SR5 or Off road without the hybrid option. Better price point for me personally.
I can’t wait to see more trim on the 4runner
I'd go with Landcruiser or GX. GX for the V6 and full time 4WD
For those type of prices I'm doing a lexus gx 550
7:42 come on Toyota put the aux switches into the LC!
The new 4runner is 👑 but my 2021 ain’t going anywhere any time soon
Good video. Wife says 4Runner in Everest…lol I knew it
4Runner. I was thinking the mid level Land Cruiser, but go for one of the upper trim 4Runners, with the hybrid version.
I'd go with the 4runner without the hybrid system. More cargo room, cheaper and rear window goes down! I'm very curious where the 1958 vs SR5 or off road trims stack up with 1958 land cruiser price wise. I feel like all the trucks are so close in price, size, functionality...not making decisions easy!
I've always been a 4runner guy, looking forward to the trailhunter edition. do you think they will do a trailhunter edition of the Land Cruiser?
I wish
4Runner TRD OR with upgrade package.
TRD off road 4 runner for me!
Wish we could get the 4Runner in Australia
The 4Runner is so cool
Does the rear seat legroom seem to be the same or is the LC slightly larger in that front?
I sat in a new 58 Edition LC hours after it landed at the local dealer. Leg room was ample and head room was massive-way way better than my 04 V8 4Rnr; note the height of the LC is over 4 inches higher than the 4Rnr and the ground clearance in the 4Rnr is about 1/2 inch higher than the LC-equating to a 5 inch+ net delta in favor of the LC cabin over the 4Rnr cabin-so if you are worried about leg room and headroom go for the LC.
I like the more classic and upright design of the LC, along with the standard hybrid and 2400w inverter.
I would get the LC. I've seen First Editions come with Nitto ATs straight from the factory and those more aggressive tires significantly improve the relatively mundane appearance of the LC (compared to the 4Runner). The LC deserves to wear real ATs anyway. Besides, it is easier to justify spending $70K on a LC than on a 4Runner. The LC is more refined in every way and can likely keep up with the 4Runner offroad in most conditions.
I bought a first edition a month ago. Delivery delayed twice so far. Dealer claims supply chain issues getting the fog lights and skid plate. Or I was scammed. Hmmmm
It was a fog light issue. same with mind
Trailhunter 4Runner...not in a hurry. Still have a 5th gen.
I have a 2024 4Runner and my back hatch/window rattles over every single bump. Anyone else have this issue on the 5th gen?
it's still on waranty, make the dealership fix it. It's not supposed to rattle.
For the same price, I prefer the LC because of the styling.
I haven't watched the video yet, but I will say I want that new 4Runner. But the more I see the Land Cruiser, the more I think this is the real deal. Both are too expensive of course, but if price wasn't an issue, I think I would go with the LC.
Looking at the engineering focused videos, it seems likely the LC is also better underneath the surface
Any links? Would like to see those videos, have been looking
@@AllenKrughoff car and driver did one recently. I believe I’ve also seen comparisons with the chassis and that it’s very close if not the same as the 300 series. This LC250 is one of, if not the closest the prado has been to the big LC. While the new 4Runner is on the same platform, I’m not sure it has the same beefy chassis.
@@JStryker7 would love to see it if you can dig it up, would make me feel even better about the LC250
I like the 4Runner.
I think I’d have to go Landcruiser. Mostly because I already have a 5th gen 4Runner that’s dedicated to heavy use. I would want a more comfortable daily driver out of the new options. I also don’t like how the new 4Runner looks too much like the Tacoma inside and out.
I rather take the land cruiser just because of the full time all wheel
Drive and knowing I’m never going to take it off road and just city driving
Land Cruiser is for the country gentleman. 4Runner is for the boys who want to send it.
Most 4Runners are pavement princesses…
I don't think boys can afford a 70K truck. Or most men for that matter
@@thadlm2698most SUVs are these days lmao
@@MaddNomad1015 That is also correct.
Does the wireless charger suck like the tundra?
wireless chargers in general are just about convenience right now. They all suck. theyll do when you are in a pinch though. I've seen some third party 15w+ wireless chargers that look factory but ah, i still wouldnt put my money on them for real use.
how disappointing is the legroom in the back seat of both of these? I hear LC is a bit better than 4runner, but sheesh they both look wicked tight.
Its like comparing the Jeep patriot to the Jeep Compass its the same rig with a different shell. Get the one you like the looks of or the one you can get the best deal on.
Your first mistake is comparing Jeep to Toyota. LC250, 4runner, and GX550 all similar but they all with feel very diffent
@@NorthweSteelheadJunkies I did not compare Jeep to Toyota so that is not a mistake. This video is about the 4runner and landcruiser not any of those lexus offerings. I am sure i will make a bunch of mistakes today but none were made here. Enjoy your weekend 👍🏼.
Is that a 4runner or Dodge Durrango?
For me the 4 Runner TRD Off Road gas engine.
WHY Won't Toyota bring over the HILUX option? You know the 3.0L Diesel?
Because exactly that… it’s a diesel.
Chicken Tax. Americas dirty past has major effect on its future. It’s also why we can’t get many other cool vehicles. Type your question into a search bar and you’ll see. America is always the start of it.
Won’t meet North American emission rules
Ground clearance on 4Runner vs lc? This also help us decide.
They are similar with the 4R beating out the LC just by a little.
4R 6th gen has 9.2 inches of ground clearance compared to the LC w/ 8 inches. 5th gen 4R pro has 9.6 inches
I love the split gate. Wish they kept it
Does either car have a full size matching spare tire?
4R looked like it did
Dealer said they stopped producing Land Cruisers and can't sell ones they have on the lot. Some kind of issue. Maybe just the roof rack thing. Maybe something bigger...
I be happy with either one
might as well pay a lil more and get alot more performance with the Gx550 overtrail with E-KDSS and a V6 Turbo
Landcruiser for sure!
Does anybody expect to be taking a $90,000 CDN Land Cruiser off road? It’ll be great in the snow for sure, especially with all wheel drive and locking diffs.
People (including myself) do it with Jeeps all the time. So yes.
@@jackbauer9347 I get the “it’s a Jeep” thing with jeep ownership but I believe there may be a different ownership/age dynamic with a Land Cruiser.
Is this 2.4T engine made a the same location as the 3.4T?
I believe so
Both are made in Japan. Both are excellent
Both are grossly overpriced. Both will sit on dealer lots hopefully… I think we are almost hitting critical mass and now even the dumb people refuse to pay these prices…despite fanboy not hitting toyota for trying to rip people off
@@Wellh0wrya they aren’t overpriced, they are worth every penny. What other vehicles in this class have 320 hp and get 25 mpg.
@@thomas735 u are deranged!
@@thomas735 u are a couple cans short of a 6 pack
@@Wellh0wrya you got to get used to nothing being cheap anymore.
I’m partial to the old school looks of the LC.
They could’ve saved themselves 15 years of development and just put an 8spd transmission in the 5th gen 4Runner.
The new Land Cruiser looks like a nice 6th gen 4Runner except that it’s missing the roll down rear window.
What?! LC don’t come 3 rows in the US? 😫that sucks!
“Kinda round headlights🤦🏻♂️“ so they must be elliptical🤷🏻♂️
I love all the new Toyota and Lexus videos so much because they've convinced me that the ones I own are superior in every way.
Enjoy!
I think the 1958 is the sleeper. Come in at a somewhat reasonable entry price and mod it out
I’ll be keeping and modding my 5th gen trd off road and go for something sportier for $70,000 for commuting.
God willing i can get the 1958 and mod it from there 🤞🏽
That would be insane!
I assumed the Land Crusser would be bigger/wider and less luxiourious because it's touted as the
I like them both, but find it odd that the LC doesn’t have a more off road-oriented coilover system like Fox or Old Man Emu. I’m sure many will upgrade to their own liking, but hard to stomach investing more $ with dealers adding $10-15K mark-ups on these LC First Editions, and it (the upgrade) wouldn’t be covered with a factory warranty. That being said, the 4Runner seems like the lesser of two evils, while still maintaining its heritage and capability.
That LC is hideous on the exterior.
My choice between them is the 4R.
However I’m annoyed with the new trucks from Toyota and won’t buy either.
2020/21 tundra all day long. Haha. Great vid bro!
Fair enough! Thanks dude!
A $70k 4-cylinder turbo just doesn't add up for me. Styling aside, part of being "rugged" and "off-road capable" is being simple, reliable, and (dare I say) affordable. The tech features are a mixed bag, and overall I'm just not sold on any of these new Toyotas.
Who cares how many cylinders it has? The 4 cyl has way more power than outgoing v6.
Here in East Tennessee, there is one stand out for me because we get a lot of rain and some snow. The Land Cruiser is the only model out of the two with full time all wheel drive
I’m 100% with you on the full-time AWD, my understanding is the 4Runner Limited will continue with this, as it has in the past.
As mentioned, the 4R will have full time 4wd for the platinum model and I believe Limited as well.
@@TRDJon yes but if it doesn’t have the lockers like the Land Cruiser, same as the current gen, it’s not really comparable.
You didn't mention center and rear lockers in your comment so thats why I mentioned that.
Does the 2025 4runner use regular or premium gasoline?
Premium
@@nomiarshad5339 : STOP with the lies. The 2024 Tacoma Owner's Manual clearly states to use 87 Octane (or higher if you want).
4Runner DOES have locked center diff, its a transfer case. Unlike the all wheel drive in the land cruiser that has a center differential, which would need to be locked to get 50/50 transfer, the RWD 4Runner already has the transfer case which is why it is RWD.
If price is not an option...4Runner! But not ready to get rid of my 5th gen!
I like the Land Cruiser.
i wish they would bring 4runner to Australia. That shit is crazy..!!!
We want your 70s series. Trade?????
Does this version of the Land Cruiser look like the old Honda Pilot.. a little bit?
Toyota put out all this overlap of models and trims...yet so far it feels like none of them have the perfect combination of what I was looking for really.
Man that landcruiser looks soooo much cooler than the 4Runner… big glass, low beltline, upright windshield…. I’m sure the 4Runner will outsell the landcruiser like 7 to 1, so it will be a lot rarer…. I’d def go landcruiser if I had 65k to blow…. but with interest rates so high financing at 9% is dumb and paying cash and losing out on the 20%+ ror in the s&p or 6% ror in tbills/bonds is dumber… atleast I can watch UA-camrs test it and take it off-road
Another small miss on the 4runner, but no lights in the hatch sucks for camping, doesnt look like any in the roof of the cargo area either, just the two down low. The 5th gen folding seats and flatter load floor will also be very much missed.
I dont like the styling of the new 4runner. The front end just seems too big for the size of the vehicle. It looks swollen next to the land cruiser's more chiseled squared off front. I hope we get a refresh that fixes the design like we did with the 5th gen.
The front end is awful on the new 4R.
agreed. almost looks like a Tacoma with a canopy 😂
Neither. Get a 5th gen 4Runner and don't look back.
Just got mine this weekend. Quicksand let’s go !
Ha. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Also overpriced.
Agree. Fifth gen will be the next “ 80 series” desired vehicle…. Jmho.keeping my 22 TRD pro! No plans to change that
That outdated and overpriced as well
I would say 4Runner purely due to better value. I just don’t see 65k in the LC. I’m not even sure I’m sold on the hybrid set up. I think a trd off road non hybrid may be best way to go but who knows.
4runners creep to 70 so not sure they are way better value
LC for me. It's a classy classic, but can go rugged off-road.
Bought a 2016 Limited 4 Runner in Midnight Black. Of course, only minor cosmetic differences from the '24; I paid $30,750 OTD, with only 39K miles.
I trust the land cruisers over the poor runner simply bc they have the prado in japan. Plus the prado is pimp
Premium gas for the Land Cruiser, not sure for the 4runner. Hopefully regular 87 octane.
Well that burns through any MPG gains…smh
If you go to Toyota's site and build a mid level Land Cruiser, with minimal options, it's mid $70k's. A fully optioned one will be over $80k, so really no difference in price compared to the 200. $70k for a TRD Pro 4 Runner, or the Trail Hunter is crazy. Especially when compared to the low/mid $50k's the 5th gen TRD Pro 4Runner cost...
Land Cruiser!!
I want a gx550 overtrail at that price point.
Many will do that I feel.
Both engine bays are in desperate need of a beauty cover ASAP! Lol
4runnner for me the third row
