    This is a clip off his new BJJ Fundamentals series all about the closed guard.
    BJJ Fanatics was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your BJJ skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for BJJ Students who don’t look at BJJ as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

      @@jeremyb5198 Does Danaher have an extensive career in competition? I've always thought he was more of a teacher than a competitor.

      @@jeremyb5198 // This is not an absolute "across the board thing", because not all of the top competitors can translate Jiu-Jitsu to lay folk, but yes Danaher, Marcelo, and Keenan are great instructors. These specific 3 can seriously breakdown the mechanics of Jiu-Jitsu.

    The scissor sweep is my favorite sweep, and to date I've never tried this grip. Will focus on this for a while!

    Um...seriously? I mean...this is the first time I’ve seen this setup...always learned to pull them towards ya...but never using the leg to break posture, and secondly, the foot on the hip keeps them from pinning the right leg, and passing...dudes a jiu jitsu genius.

      I could be wrong, but I'm my opinion, the wider their knees are spread (person being swept), the more necessary to pull them towards you. However, here Danaher achieves bringing them forwards by using his left leg diagonally, not just laterally.

    1 dislike is the soul of your training partner not wanting to get swept.

    The man who turned bjj into science.. Much respect sir.. Just one question.. What if the opponent lets his right hand grip go? How are you going to load his weight on your knee? Where to place the knee then?

    Is there a progression for when the pawn keeps the right elbow tight to prevent the underhook with your leg? Or can you still sweep by pushing the pawn’s body without the underhook?

    • @JAndersen22222
      @JAndersen22222 4 роки тому +10

      If they're keeping their elbow inside the leg to block the under hook you better triangle them

    any reason to not always use your right leg on his knee instead of the ground at around 01:38?

    Just curious. How would this change in a real life self-defense situation where the opponent may be wearing something like a t-shirt or maybe no shirt at all?

    • @mads4118
      @mads4118 3 роки тому +4

      Typically you wouldn’t do a generally gi based sweep in self defense but if you want to do it no gi you would have a hand at the back of his neck pulling his head down

    • @grumpyae86
      @grumpyae86 3 роки тому +4

      The grips would be slightly different but the actions still the same. Cross side grip to the wrist traps the person top’s wrist with a pushing motion, your other hand feeds through to the person on top’s tricep with a pulling motion. This creates pressure to trap the controlled side and you can then do the rest of the technique as shown on this video.

      Control the head with one hand and elbow with the other or the wrist. If you grip the wrist stiff arm in to the opponents belly somewhere. Its a great sweep for self defence because even if you dont sweep you are in a great position to post a hand on the collar bone and stand up.

    It almost looks like a triangle set up, but switch to a scissor variation,
