/ lukrembo These are the MOST WILD My 600-lb Life Moments!
My 600-lb Life is a reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who begin the episode weighing at least 490 pounds (220 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.[1]

I was just about to make this comment before taking a look and finding yours. A lot of people in the healthcare system can show a generalised fatphobia and skinny positivity mindset, which I imagine is because they see more people suffering from their high weight in their job, while fewer people with low weight end up in hospitals for the physical symptoms of their problem. They can be especially rigid about following BMI standards (which should not be followed as a sole indicator of your weight) and I've read horror stories of doctors and nurses who advise that children lose large amounts of weight when they are at ages where a little extra padding is often a benefit, such as infancy, toddlerhood, and puberty. That one extra size on the label of your jeans can be crucial to your health in some cases.

I’d rather be obese than have conditions are aren’t researched. With obesity, you know what happens.. if that makes sense
Like my friend has SCADs. That’s one of the worse heart conditions, and causes heart attacks in athletes or just healthy people.
It is more deadly than obesity related heart issues (by case fatality rate) and it’s not extremely rare but it’s kinda rare yet you’ve probably never heard of it.
Athletes and heart issues are also common in other areas, yet is not really talked about
Things that come from obesity are just more researched and talked about

They have to prove that they can stick to the diet for the rest of their life essentially. If they go back to the old way of living after the surgery they could seriously harm themselves. It's like how doctors will wait to perform skin surgery to make sure they don't just gain the weight back again.

I know several women who did exactly this. Changing your lifestyle is very hard. Food and eating addictions are really hard because you cannot abstain complete from eating. Don’t judge others. You no idea what their life challenges have been. People do not want to be mean and rotten assholes, but that what occurs when your life becomes out of control.

So many people on this show blame their overeating and weight gain on being molested as a young child. I hope that none of that is true. Some I believe, and some look like they are using it as an excuse.

  • @shannon9332

The saddest thing about this show is how commonly contestants were molested as children , that they then overate as children for comfort / to fight off their molesters or to make themselves undesirable to their molesters. They don't get offered therapy as much as they should.

what bothers me the most is the small rolls I get when I sit
But then you get people who are hundreds of pounds in weight and don’t even understand the severity
    Two extremes I guess
For now, I’m trying not to eat so much bad stuff especially in the evening and try to understand my emotions instead of eating to ease them
Some may say I’m not fat, and really I’m not, but self image is a complicated thing and all my head and emotions are saying is that I need to lose weight and be something like 6 stone 😞 it sucks
