Hey look at that. It's a drum lesson for Bleed too. Except when he does herta-fives
Oh look an educated comment. But everyone notices the comment that just points out that it sounds like Bleed instead.
You, my friend are a gem among the rocks. You give simple, detailed examples that are extrapolated step by step with the basis of the rhythm all the way to the notated end piece. Incredible. You have helped so much. Thank you.
Thank you my friend, I'm just glad that I'm able to help you and so many others. I can't ask for anything more really :)
2:24 sounds like bleed from meshuggah :D
That's RIGHT! Meshuggah was a big influence on Matt's own drumming, and so many other killer musicians
cool maybe one day we will be a killer musicans too :D
We definitely will!
yeap it does sound the same, if you check out Porcupine Tree's Anesthetize, Gavin Harrison also does it too,
Gavin indeed does this, he even solos over the hertas when playing live :)
Hey man, I don't know anything about drumming, but I still enjoy watching your videos. I'm a fan of AAL and I'm trying to figure out what's going on. I also highly appreciate how detailed and step by step your videos are. I bet you help a lot of people, keet it up :)
Hey it's my pleasure to be able to help. I'm all about sharing knowledge here, and however that knowledge helps you is all a plus to me. So thank you for your kind comment!
Dude this was brilliant. I’ve been trying to figure out that herta pattern for the longest time, loved the breakdown! Garstka truly is a beast
Matt constantly inspires me to improve my playing, thank you so much for your kind compliments Ian!
This helped me get it down on guitar a lot better. Thank you, great video!
Glad it helped!
i first came across this pattern in boo's follow the signs. really introduced me to the importance of deciding how to use your right and left feet even for bass pedals
that was one of the best drum instructional vid I have ever seen well played well edited well explained !!
Thank you:) I made this quite a while ago and I really appreciate you recognizing my efforts and putting up a comment about it. Hope this video helps you in some way Louis!

You too Sir, great guitar playing there!
Great stuff as always! Matt's drumming is unique and I love learning how it's done.
His uniqueness certainly is one of the key factors that propelled me to do all this :)
Watched this a year or two back and couldn't fathom playing it. Time to give this a shot now!
Go For It!!! And keep going for it!!!
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ I finally got it! So satisfying to be able to play this! Thanks for your awesome videos! If you ever find yourself travelling to Kenya and want to go on safari, hit me up!
Wow congrats man, your hard work paid off :) and yes it's one of my dreams to go to a safari in Africa. Will have to wait till air travel becomes normal again though. I appreciate the kind gesture!!

props brother!
Thank you man!
Amazing stuff as always
Hey man, your videos are so sick! Very nicely laid out and incredibly informative. I'm really curious about what software you're using, both for video editing and for the notation? I'd greatly appreciate if you could help me out! Been wanting to use something like that for a while now.
Corel video studio Pro X9 for video editing, and Finale songwriter for the notation, all on Windows. If you need more specifics, I'd be glad to help, thanks Siros
Wow, Thanks!!!
This is great man. Great Channel!!
Thank you Sid :)
Nailed it.

Excellent lesson, you've got new subscriber.

Awesome video! I noticed your subs have gone up substantially...congrats!
Nice to see you around Adam, and I remember you were one of my first few subs. Thank you so much Adam, your channel's doing well too :)
you're welcome! You deserve even more subs! Keep up the great work
love it! thanks for the video, how long does it usually take you to transcribe a piece like this?
I transcribed this 2 years ago so I can't remember clearly, I think it was 45 minutes just for the bridge. Although now, my skills have improved so it takes a lot less time, thanks Samuel!
nice video bro thanks
Woww respect
Nice lesson! Just a quick question. Is that a Sakae kit?? I noticed the logo on the hi hat pedal. Damn, I would love to get my hands on a Sakae kit
YES IT IS! But this kit isn't mine. It belongs to the drum school that I teach at. However I personally own another SAKAE Kit. It's a white almighty birch that I hardly use and I've been looking for a buyer for them actually, are you interested?
Art Of Drumming HQ I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and wow that is such a tempting offer. However, unfortunately, i'm not currently in a situation where I can afford it having just recently invested on a cymbal that cost a damn fortune hahaha. It's such a shame, i would've loved to buy it. But thank you for the offer and thank you for the lessons you put out, they've been very helpful for me. O
learnt bleed finally
Awesome!! did you play the exercise with a playalong track?? where I can get that track please?? Greetings from Mexico
2:30 that also sounds like Mesuggah's Bleed
would you do an earthshine by arch echo doublebass tutorial by any chance?
Hmm if one of my Patrons request it, no plans to do that. You can request videos by being a Patron anyway
I'm a simple man. I see double bass hertas, I click.
I still think Matt plays it wth different L-R order, sounds same but feels bit different,
thanks for the tutorial!
Yeah I think he has his own method :) I didn't copy his foot patterns, just the notes
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ years back I was trying to learn that, and used same L-R pattern as you heh,
then that video from Drumeo playing Matt released and his playing there was wild xD
Cool stuff! I think the transcription is a bit off though, I know bar 2 beat four and bar 3 beat 4 tosin is actually doing a nested triplet figure (five notes, where the first and fifth take up 3 nonuplets and the middle 3 are one nonuplets each, adding up to 1 beat) and I'd assume Matt is locked in with that.
oh yes, you are spot on. Matt still plays the 32nd hertas in those places, therefore Tosin's triplets and Matt's 32nds are slightly out of sync with each other. When I was transcribing this, I listened through again and again because of that slight discrepancy, I finally settled on this when I saw Matt play this song live and from the clips that I could find on UA-cam. You sir must be a guitarist!
Wei Lung Wong that makes sense! I remember that driving me nuts live, trying to figure out why it sounded off there. cool!
Matt use to do something similar to exercise 2 as a warmup. I seen a video of him playing it on his youtube channel, he wasnt playing it on a stack he was playing it on the bell of the ride. Also how long did it take you to get down just the first couple exercises? I know that you usually tell how long it took you to play something in videos, sorry if i missed it.
Oh you didn't miss anything, I only said that in one video I think. Exercise 1 took me about a month, exercise 2 took me 6 months to get to point of satisfaction. However I was already experimenting with hertas before this, so the total practice I have on hertas on the double bass was roughly 2 years before I released this video.
Wei Lung Wong
Thank you!
how do you record your drums? I don't see any mics?!?
I have one ZOOM h5 behind me about waist level, you can see it in the exercise portions. And connected to the ZOOM is a bass drum mic and that's it.
3:52
Which double pedals do you use ?
I use a demon drive at home, and a dw 5000 at my work place. I prefer the dw5000 though.
Dave Grohl uses the hand pattern in a fill on "No One Knows" by Queens of the Stone Age.
Yeah you're right, a lot of drummers have been using hertas, it's not a new pattern really. But it's still an awesome pattern in my opinion :)
This is another of his tricky pieces I play. I found your transcription really useful! Thanks for sharing! Watch my Merry Christmas drumming video if you have time! Loved your video. Here, we call these kind of foot rudiment Gallops. Hertas is new for me :D
Nice!! Which pedals are you using?
These are the crush M4 double pedals in this video but now I currently use the Pearl demon drive.
The PDF link doen't work
For some reason it doesn't show up on the website, but you can still click the download PDF button to save it to your computer, works for me.
You, sir, are my God

A double bass herta video that's not about Bleed? How?
heh heh there are too many about bleed already. here's one I have on bleed ua-cam.com/users/shorts?v=IINnBIxLtgs&lc=UgzGib4THLZlHqHDrud4AaABAg
fucking cool sia
Hahahaha thanks :D
How to play bleed 101
Whoa. those are some nice socks
hahahaha
easy.....here hold my beer....
The patern for the woven web by animals as leaders is wrong. If u want i can come to u and show u what’s wrong cos i don’t really know how to write notes
It's okay Linus, perhaps you can link me to a video with the correct version :)
Wow, breaking it down like its nothing. This is going to take a while ... :`)
Let you in on something, I was never good at double bass to begin with, but I really wanted to nail down "The Woven Web" and it has been 2 years of a hard practicing journey. So when you say this is going to take a a while, I totally feel you as I remember so clearly being in your shoes back then.
Dedication! Thats awesome to hear. :) I´ll send you a video in a couple of years, when I got this down ;)
Looking forward to it Jonas!
You’re nasty at drums dude
Thanks Daniel!
bah, don't have to do all this... just hit the china, bass & snare in absolutely random patterns, no one will know the difference
Idk if Im listening The woben web, or Bleed from Meshuggah 🤣
Why not both 😏
